SUMMARY:SB backcountry- Los Padres Manzana Narrows
DESCRIPTION:Come explore the Santa Barbara backcountry in the San Rafael Wilderness.\n 4/27 Meet at 8:30am at Nira campground . Hike about 6.5 miles with 1\,500’ gain to Manzana Narrows and setup camp. Hang out. There is a creek by camp. The weather should be warm enough to take a dip.\n 4/28 Pack up and hike out the same way. Optional lunch stop in Santa Barbara \nThe trail requires several creek crossings which are usually less than knee deep. May also be able to rock hop.\n Trail may be brushy. Ticks can be common-spray you and your gear Rattlesnake sightings are also possible depending on how warm it is Should be able to catch the last of the wildflowers blooming.\n Road conditions: Cars can make the last few miles of dirt road but higher clearance is recommended. There are usually a few dips in the road to maneuver. \nTravel options: Stay at my place in Oxnard Friday night. Leave at about 6:30am Saturday morning for the 2hr drive OR Car camp along the dirt road or at Nira campground at the trailhead. \nDirections: Hwy 101 north to Hwy 154. SUMMARY:Doin' the Big\, Fig Newton Canyon (Fast Paced)
DESCRIPTION:http://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/b/a/2/4/event_99467652.jpeg \nFrom the Kanan Rd trailhead\, we’ll jump on the Backbone Trail for a cruise down into Newton Canyon. On our way there\, we’ll cross the creek\, pass under an oak canopy\, and come out into an opening. At the opening\, look toward the sandstone formations in the distance\, and maybe you’ll see a trickle of water from Upper Newton Falls. \nhttp://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/b/9/8/e/event_99467502.jpeg \nWhen we hit the fire road\, we will go left and up to an overlook by Rooster Ranch. The parking lot is on the right. \nFrom Pacific Coast Highway\, go north on Kanan Dume Road about 4 miles and make a left turn into the parking lot immediately after going through the first tunnel. \nParking is free. \nBring sunscreen\, plenty of water\, and wear sturdy shoes and a sun hat.
