SUMMARY:INFORMATIONAL POSTING-November 11-12 Wilderness First Aid Course
DESCRIPTION:INFORMATIONAL POSTING-November 11-12 Wilderness First Aid Course \nTO REGISTER PLEASE GO TO: http://wildernessfirstaidcourse.org \nWhy Take the WFAC? \n\nMore extensive and useful than Red Cross basic first aid\n\n· We teach the course twice a year in Fullerton; typically\, May and November. The next class is November 11-12. \n· You receive 24 hours of credit for the class. This satisfies the first aid requirement for all leader candidate and leader levels for the (Los) Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club. \n· The course fee is $180\, (roughly half the fee for a two-day WFA course offered by either REI/NOLS or Wilderness Medical Assoc.) \n· The WFAC offers five excellent\, hands-on 30-minute accident simulations as part of the course. \n· In addition to being a supporting first aider in four of these\, each WFAC student is the lead rescuer in one simulation with the undivided attention of an instructor. \n· The Course fills up quickly\, so register early. See Link Below. \nMore information and Registration instructions are available on the WFAC website at http://wildernessfirstaidcourse.org

SUMMARY:Arroyo Conejo Trail to Lynnmere Trail ~ Gentler Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:We will start by following the pleasant single-track on the left (not the road to the right\, which descends to a dead-end at the creek) from the Rancho Conejo Playfields in Newbury Park. The trail skirts the edge of a neighborhood and its steep-walled canyon\, which provides great scenic views along the Barranca and through riparian native plant communities\, Wildwood Park\, and the Pacific Ocean. There is a creek crossing with rocks and wood pallets to make “dry crossing” easy when we reach the bottom of the canyon. Then\, we will turn right at a T-junction and begin a steady climb out of the canyon to the Lynnmere Trail. The trail passes the backs of some houses\, dips into a woodland\, and emerges into a meadow where we get a panoramic view to the west. Here\, we will retrace our way back to the Arroyo Conejo Trail and back to the parking lot. \nThis hike is about 5 miles long with an elevation gain/loss of approximately 1000 feet. \nDirections: \nFrom 101 Freeway\, drive 1/4 mile north on Ventu Park Rd. Turn right into the parking lot at the Rancho Conejo Playfields and the Arroyo Conejo trailhead is on the right. \nPLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY \nPlease review our guidelines to participate in our hikes. \nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list. \n\n\nPlan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike at a moderate pace\, or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level. \n\n\nNo “Plus Ones” or dogs on Weekday Trailblazer hikes. \n\n\nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals. \nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. By participating in any posted event\, you are taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions. \nIf you choose to sign up for this or any Weekday Trailblazers Meetup event\, you are releasing the Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers from all liability in case of possible injuries. Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience. \nAll participants must be 18 or older\, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
