SUMMARY:Turtle Rock Hike at Sunset
DESCRIPTION:This popular trail is located near the Irvine turtle rock neighborhood. It is a 4.2 mile loop with 900 ft elevation gain. It takes around 2h to complete at a moderate pace. We will park on the street which is next to the Turtle Rock Preschool. The trail starts with a steep climb for about 0.38 miles and 264 feet gain to reach the top of French Hill. From here\, you will have a good view of Irvine\, Tustin\, Lake Forest and Santiago Peak. In good weather you can also see Catalina island. After a short break\, we will continue downhill for 1 mile\, and then the trail intersects with Ridgeline road. We will continue on the sidewalk along Ridgeline road for about 0.5 miles\, and then rejoin the trail and climb up another hill. From there you can see Bommer canyon on the left. We will continue descending to a neighborhood and climb then climb the last hill\, known as Sunset Point. It is a beautiful place to see a sunset and on a good day you can even spot San Pedro\, Long beach and LA high rise buildings. From here we will descend and walk through a neighborhood and back to trailhead. Since we start in the evening\, make sure you bring your 10 essentials and layers to keep you warm after sunset. Please also bring 2L water\, snacks\, trekking poles if you use them.

DESCRIPTION:INFORMATIONAL POSTING-November 11-12 Wilderness First Aid Course\nTO REGISTER PLEASE GO TO: http://wildernessfirstaidcourse.org\nWhy Take the WFAC? \n\nMore extensive and useful than Red Cross basic first aid\n\n· We teach the course twice a year in Fullerton; typically\, May and November. The next class is November 11-12.\n· You receive 24 hours of credit for the class. This satisfies the first aid requirement for all leader candidate and leader levels for the (Los) Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club.\n· The course fee is $180\, (roughly half the fee for a two-day WFA course offered by either REI/NOLS or Wilderness Medical Assoc.)\n· The WFAC offers five excellent\, hands-on 30-minute accident simulations as part of the course.\n· In addition to being a supporting first aider in four of these\, each WFAC student is the lead rescuer in one simulation with the undivided attention of an instructor.\n· The Course fills up quickly\, so register early. Although not considered easy\, it is certainly a great doable training hike and a wonderful opportunity to meet other hikers. \nBring a flashlight or a headlamp (days are getting shorter) Also\, bring water\, a snack\, sun protection while the sun is out\, and an extra layer of clothing in case it cools down.
