SUMMARY:Wind Caves - The Domelands (Anza Borrego Desert)
DESCRIPTION:Intermediate Backpacking Trip (only because it’s a Dry Camp)\nMilage: 7 – 14 miles (depending on route)\nSome Cross country hiking.\nAscent: +700-1000 ft\nHigh clearance vehicles recommended….but we have seen regular car make it. \nDry camp (no water)\nMaps/GPX files/Google map \nFrom last year trip. \nInstagram Video) \nThere are several places in Anza-Borrego State Park where exposed sandstone layering has been slowly eroded by the wind to create odd and whimsical-shaped formations. Near Split Mountain\, there are some formations that have a rather sinister look to them. The formations also seem to resemble buildings from the fictional town of Bedrock\, which was the hometown of America’s favorite prehistoric family\, The Flintstones. This place is known as the Wind Caves and can be visited by following a loop-trail hike. \nNot only does this hike take in the Wind Caves\, but it also offers outstanding views of the heavily eroded Carrizo Badlands to the west. These badlands look like a choppy sea with large waves frozen in place. SUMMARY:Rockhouse Canyon Anza Borrego
DESCRIPTION:Overnight trip up Rockhouse Canyon\nDid this last year and found the spring! Hike up Rockhouse Canyon to a wonderful campsite among the cottonwoods. \nDescription from Afoot and Afield:\nRockhouse Canyon and the broad\, sloping alluvial basin drained by it-informally known as Rockhouse Valley -constitute one of Southern California’s truly forgotten places. Prior to the 20th century\, Cahuilla Indian villages thrived here. After the Cahuilla moved to the nearby Santa Rosa Indian Reservation around 1900\, a few hardy prospectors made forays into the area\, traveling along the ancient footpaths and\, in some cases\, living in the old rock houses built by the Cahuilla. Today\, there is\nstill no road beyond the lower reaches of Rockhouse Canyon. The closest inhabited place is several miles away. \nTrack from last year\nSpring location\nI plan on camping somewhere in Clark Valley on Friday night. Then on Saturday morning we can caravan to the trailhead. The road to the trailhead is rough\, last year a Subaru Outback was able to get 2.5 miles from the end of the road and my Lexus GX was able to get to 1.5 miles. I don’t know what the condition of the road is this year. SUMMARY:PCT section A - from Montezuma Rd to Warner Springs day hike
DESCRIPTION:S22 (Montezuma Valley Rd) to Warner springs (8 miles) with car staging on March 1.\nThis is a short and easy PCT stretch to enjoy the start of the super bloom. We would start at Barrel Spring and then hike north to Warner Springs. Parking available at Barrel springs and “Pacific Crest Trail Parking Access for Warner Springs – Agua Caliente Creek”. Ghost offered help as well picking up hikers at Warner Springs and shuttle us back to our cars at Barrel spring if needed. You can camp overnight at Barrel Spring if you wanted to\, I’m not planning to overnight camp.\nMeeting at 8:30 to stage cars and will start hiking by 9 am.\nThis is a day hike\, we adhere to LNT. please be prepared\, self-sufficient and carry enough water\, snacks and maps/GPS as this is not a guided hike.
