SUMMARY:💦We Go Chasing Waterfalls
DESCRIPTION:Capturing all the beauty of Wildwood Park in Thousand Oaks — dramatic views\, peaceful canyons\, and two waterfalls — this loop is a group favorite. It’s about five miles long and covers the park’s most scenic highlights\, including Lizard Rock\, Skunk Hollow\, the quiet Eagle Point Trail\, and finally Paradise Falls\, before returning by way of the tranquil Indian Creek Trail. \nWe’ll start down the street from the main Wildwood trailhead. Instead of heading out on the busy Mesa Trail\, we’ll hook up with the Stagecoach Bluff Trail. This single-track path runs parallel to the canyon edge and immediately feels more rugged and natural. We’ll meander through sage scrub and chaparral\, catching glimpses into Wildwood Canyon below. Hawks often circle overhead\, and in spring\, wildflowers brighten the slopes. The trail gently climbs westward until it meets Lizard Rock Trail\, where we turn for the final ascent to the ridge. \nThe climb to Lizard Rock is short but scenic\, winding through sandstone outcrops that frame sweeping views of Thousand Oaks\, Mountclef Ridge\, and the Santa Monica Mountains. At the top\, Lizard Rock — a large sandstone formation resembling its namesake — offers one of the best panoramas in the park. It’s a perfect place for us to rest\, take in the view\, and appreciate how close this wild landscape sits to the city below. \nFrom Lizard Rock\, we continue down the trail as it descends toward Skunk Hollow\, a quiet\, grassy meadow nestled in the canyon. Despite its name\, Skunk Hollow is lovely and peaceful — often dotted with wildflowers and shaded by oaks. From here we hop onto the Eagle Point Trail\, one of Wildwood’s lesser-traveled paths. This stretch feels remote\, winding along the park’s northern slopes with long\, open views across Wildwood Mesa. We climb gently\, then begin a steady descent into Wildwood Canyon. \nAt the end of Eagle Point Trail\, we connect to the main Paradise Falls Trail\, which leads to the park’s most famous landmark. The 40-foot waterfall tumbles year-round into a shaded pool\, making it an irresistible stop for another snack or photo break. \nOn our return to the cars we follow the Indian Creek Trail\, a quieter alternative to the main canyon route. This trail traces the creek upstream through oak woodlands. Along the way\, we’ll pass Little Falls\, a smaller\, charming cascade tucked into the canyon wall. From there\, the trail climbs gradually out of the canyon and rejoins the mesa above\, where an easy stroll across the ball fields brings us back to our starting point. \nThis loop showcases the best of Wildwood — sweeping vistas\, hidden hollows\, and the soothing sound of waterfalls — all in a moderate five-mile hike with about 600 feet of elevation gain.

SUMMARY:Learn New Skills-Make New Friends-Experience New Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Informational Posting Only – See Website at www.wildernesstravelcourse.org\nINFORMATIONAL POSTING ONLY\nwww.wildernesstravelcourse.org\nDear Group Members\, particularly the recent swell of new\, never-been-backpacking-before-but-want-to-start members: There is a great Sierra Club opportunity that is about to begin….an opportunity that only happens one time each year and it is one of the best outdoor learning experiences the Sierra Club has to offer. This is the Angeles Chapter Wilderness Travel Course (WTC). Some of you have taken the course and are now leaders and/or knowledgeable hikers. For those of you who have not\, enrollment in WTC is something you should consider now. The Wilderness Travel Course helps build outdoor skills so hikers can be safe in the backcountry. The course runs for ten weeks and includes four field trips (two one day and two weekend outings). Students learn map and compass navigation skills for competent hiking off-trail\, snow travel\, rock scrambling techniques\, first aid\, nutrition and lots more. The course is followed by unforgettable experience backpacking trips\, most of which take place in the High Sierra\, Sequoia and Yosemite during the summer months.\nWTC moves you from being a day hiker to a more serious adventurer. You will acquire skills in trip planning\, preparation\, equipment and wilderness safety to take you into the backcountry in all seasons\, beyond roads and trails with new friends that share your interest in the outdoors.\nAgain\, the course runs only one time each year and takes place in Southern California in four locations as follows: Orange County (Tuesdays beginning Jan 6th) Long Beach/South Bay (Wednesdays beginning January 14th); San Gabriel Valley (Tuesdays beginning Jan 20th); West Los Angeles (Wednesdays beginning Jan 21st)\nThe four geographic areas fill up well in advance of the class start date so register early.\nFOR MORE INFORMATION AND TO REGISTER FOR THE COURSE GO TO: http:www.wildernesstravelcourse.org

SUMMARY:ELECTRIC LIGHT PARADE / Halloween Ghost Ride
DESCRIPTION:Cross-posting this fun event hosted by John Quinn. The Ventura Electric Light Parade.\nLight-up your bike and join us for this special Halloween cruise to the sounds of Monster Mash and other haunting tunes as we roll. Costumes are welcome\, or just be yourself. Do be mindful of long capes or fringe that could get caught in your tires. \nWe will be riding up to main street to toss out candy to the tick-or-treaters. Come prepared with a bag that you can put on your handlebars filled with candy. It so much fun for these kiddos to see our colorful bikes roll up and discover we are tossing out candy! \nThese rides are a “cruise” at a leisurely pace\, along the beach. A sunset ride out and a night ride on the way back! The pace is so relaxing (slow)\, you might want to bring your “analog” bike instead. \n\nBoom boxes are pulled by the leader (John Quinn) and the sweep (Thomas Healy). The playlist is pretty cool and sometimes pumping music!\nThis event belongs to “Ventura Electric Light Parade” and we are cross-posting this – so we’ll be guests on this ride.\n\nGET LIT! \n\nDecorate your bike with lights galore. It’s not just pretty but helps with safety on the road. You can find lights on Amazon. I’m sure it’s the start of a new obsession!\nI suggest putting lights on your bike the day before\, as it can take time to get them on just right.\n\nHere is John’s event page: \n\nhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/295050229712976/\n\nHere’s a video of a past ride:\nhttps://fb.watch/CdM4LD082B/ \nTHE START / END TIME DESCRIPTION.\n📍 Meet at Beach House Tacos on the Ventura Pier by 5:45 PM \n\nBeach House Tacos\, 668 E Harbor Blvd\, Ventura\, CA 93001\n\n⏰ Parade rolls out at 6:00 PM \nMeet at 5:00 if you would like to have a pre-ride dinner at Beach House Tacos. \nMILEAGE: 20 MILES \n\nMost riders are “analog” so between 8-10mph (slo-o-o-ow)\nE-bikes are welcome!\n\nBE PREPARED\nImportant: This is a night ride. Be sure to have a working headlight and tail light on your bike. \n\nCandy for the trick-or-treaters.\nLight-up your bike!\nCostume – Encouraged\, but optional.\nMake sure you come prepared with tools to change a flat or add air to a tire.\nBeing by the beach and evening\, dress in layers.\nWater\, of course!\nHelmet\n\nLOCATION / ADDRESS MEETUP \n\nBeach House Tacos\, 668 E Harbor Blvd\, Ventura\, CA 93001\n\nPARKING\nParking structure next to the pier. https://maps.app.goo.gl/eiG3xAzsRnP17uTt6\n$2 per hour/$10 max. SUMMARY:📅First Hike of 2026: Fryman - Franklin Foray
DESCRIPTION:Beginning the hike at the U-Vanu Trail on Viewcrest Drive immediately gives the outing a quieter\, more residential feel than the main Fryman Canyon entrances. The trail slips gently away from the street and begins a steady climb through chaparral and low brush\, with filtered views back toward the San Fernando Valley opening up as you gain elevation. It feels calm and local at first\, as if you’ve discovered a back door into the hills. \nAs the U-Vanu Trail rises\, the terrain becomes more open and sunlit\, and the path connects naturally into the broader Fryman Canyon trail network. Here the hike takes on a more energetic rhythm\, with wider fire roads\, airy ridgelines\, and expansive views that contrast with the tucked-away feel of the trailhead. This section delivers the classic Fryman experience: steady climbing\, open skies\, and a sense of space above the city. \nNear Mulholland Drive\, the route crests the ridge and transitions toward Franklin Canyon. Crossing over\, the landscape changes quickly—oak and sycamore trees replace scrub\, the trail narrows\, and the air cools as you descend. The shift from Fryman’s exposed hills to Franklin’s shaded canyon feels dramatic and refreshing. \nA brief stop at the TreePeople exhibits adds a thoughtful pause\, offering insight into local ecology\, water conservation\, and the relationship between these canyons and Los Angeles. Deeper in Franklin Canyon\, the trail meanders past creek beds and historic stone features to the Franklin Canyon Reservoir\, where wildlife and still water create a peaceful midpoint. \nThe hike concludes by climbing back out of Franklin Canyon and returning to Fryman Canyon\, eventually reconnecting with the U-Vanu route. The final stretch restores the views and sunlight\, completing a satisfying loop that blends neighborhood access\, open ridgelines\, shaded canyon trails\, and a full-circle return to Viewcrest Drive. \nHike is about 5.5 miles with appx 1\,300 feet total ascent and rated MEDIUM. See the HWD Hike Rating Guide \nDIRECTIONS\nPark on street close to the corner of Laurel Terrace and Viewcrest. We’ll meet on Viewcrest near corner

SUMMARY:EBIKE RIDE - SANTA CLARITA BIKE PATHS

SUMMARY:Stairhike: Return to Blue Heaven #3 - 3 mi\, 1.5 hours
DESCRIPTION:Come explore the hills of north Silver Lake\, where the vast Ivanhoe and Silver Lake reservoirs reflect the heavenly blue sky beneath Dodger Stadium and surroundings. This urban hike winds through stairs\, streets\, and sidewalks over two Silver Lake hills. The hike covers a range of local topics including the history of water\, infrastructure\, protected habitat\, mid-century modern architecture\, movie studios\, immigration and LGBTQ history. Conversation will again focus on the Dodgers\, who had the lowest batting average\, .203\, for a winning World Series team since when? and who was the winning team for that World Series and who were their opponents?\nThe two hills are each a 600-700 foot elevation gain on stairs for a combined total gain of 1\,200 feet. The hike starts at the Silver Lake Meadows\, just across the street from the Neutra VDL House at 2300 Silver Lake Blvd\, Los Angeles\, CA 90039. There is free street parking along Silver Lake Boulevard across from the reservoir and on Armstrong Avenue\, off of Silver Lake Blvd. The best option is to find parking on the east side of Silver Lake Boulevard before you reach 2300 Silver Lake Boulevard. Cross at the cross walk with a traffic light in front of the VDL House. Bring at least 1 liter of water and any snacks to eat while hiking. Also\, bring a headlamp or other light source. Wear sneakers\, trail runners or hiking boots with grippy soles. You can bring well behaved dogs on leash.\nThere are no restrooms at Silver Lake Meadows. The closest restrooms are located on Glendale Boulevard at Starbucks (2560 Glendale)\, Astro Diner (2300 Fletcher)\, Gingergrass (2396 Glendale) and Red Lion Tavern (2366 Glendale). The Silver Lake Recreation Center and The Silver Lake Branch Library are closed in the evenings.
