SUMMARY:Angel Vista - Full Moon Potluck hike
DESCRIPTION:3.0 miles\, 800′ gain\, easy-intermediate.\nMoonrise 6:20 pm\nPhoto by Helen \nLet’s enjoy the gorgeous sunset\, full moon\, and fun loaded potluck picnic at the beautiful Angel Vista! \nThis is a potluck hike. Please bring food\, drinks to share.\nIf your item requires utensils/plates/toothpicks\, etc.\, please bring them.\nYou may wish to bring your own cup\, plate\, and utensils in case there aren’t any. \nSnacks and/or beverages to share \nThis hike is rated easy-intermediate because it is a continuous incline for 1.5 miles. This isn’t real steep\, but it is continuous\, and many beginner hikers have indicated this should be rated intermediate. \nThat said\, there is no reason a fit beginner cannot complete this hike. If needed\, just stop and rest along the way\, even if it’s every 50 steps. This is not a conditioning hike\, it is a social hike\, and you really can’t get lost. \nThe only junction is 200 yards before the top\, where we’ll turn right to complete the climb. \nAt the top\, there is a picnic table and 360 degree incredible views that are especially wonderful at night. We’ll have a snack-share social event at the top for 30-60 minutes before heading back the way we came. Please bring some food and drink to share\, and utensils of your item requires it. \nThe top has been known to sometimes be very cool and windy. Please bring something to put on in case it is that way at the top. \nInteresting Notes \nTree Tobacco\nThe Cahuilla Indians used the leaves interchangeably with other tobacco species in hunting rituals and as a poultice to treat swellings\, bruises\, cuts\, wounds\, boils\, sores\, inflamed throat\, and swollen glands. It does not contain nicotine. \nIt contains anabasine\, a similar compound\, which is highly toxic to humans and animals. It is more toxic than nicotine. Ingestion of the leaves can be fatal. It is being investigated for use as a biofuel. All parts of this plant are toxic. Used as an insecticide. Do not smoke. \nElderberry\nThe blue or purple berries are gathered and made into elderberry wine\, jam\, syrup\, and pies. The entire flower cluster can be dipped in batter and fried while petals can be eaten raw or made into a fragrant and tasty tea. Spit out the seeds. Elderflower water is also used in perfumes and sweets. \nMost agree that they do need to be cooked if you are going to eat more than just a few out of hand. That’s because they have a small amount of cyanide producing glycosides\, which are released upon digestion. Fully ripe black berries are not toxic and you can eat as many as you like. Boiling or baking takes care of any “toxic” issue as does drying raw berries. \nDirections:\nRosewood Trailhead\n398 Regal Oak Ct.\nThousand Oaks\, CA 91320 \nFrom the 101\nVentu Park exit\, South (toward ocean).\nRight on Lynn Road for 1000′.\nLeft on Regal Oak Ct. for 1/3 mi.\nPark on the street \nHike Distance: 3.0 miles\nGain: 800′\nDistribution: Most of the incline occurs in the first half\, which is a continuous climb. \nDifficulty: Easy Intermediate.\nShape: Out and back.\nPace: approx. 2.0 mph.\nTrail Type: Double track\, single track.\nDuration: 3.5 hours\nDogs: Dogs must be kept on leash and away from picnic table.\nRestrooms: No\nDrinking Fountains: No.\nParking: Free along the street. \nWhat to bring\n1 liter of water for every 3 miles.\nHiking shoes/boots. Not required\, but recommended.\nFlashlight or headlamp.\nSunscreen and/or hat as needed. \nFAQ\nHiking Plus Page Links\nDisclaimer / Release of Liability

SUMMARY:🔋eBike Battery for Sale - Like New - Swap or Buy 📉
DESCRIPTION:📉 PRICE DROP! – I purchased a non-returnable 52v/25Ah (1300 Wh) battery but it does not fit my bike – by about 1/4 inch. I paid over $398 with tax. I am willing to swap or sell. I figure $300 is fair — obo. \nYou can pick up or I can deliver locally. Battery includes mounting rail\, charger\, etc. See pics in Photo album. You will receive it in original box \nMy current config is a Bafang BBS02 motor with a 48v/17.5Ah battery. The plan was to use my 48v battery as a 2nd battery. My BBS02 motor is compatible with a 52v battery\, The BBSH2 ought to be also. I can’t say for other motors. Please check with your supplier. \nFeel free to text me at 818.297.7993 \nThanks for reading\,\nDean\nYour Organizer

SUMMARY:Learn New Skills-Make New Friends-Experience New Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Informational Posting Only – See Website at www.wildernesstravelcourse.org\nINFORMATIONAL POSTING ONLY\nwww.wildernesstravelcourse.org\nDear Group Members\, particularly the recent swell of new\, never-been-backpacking-before-but-want-to-start members: There is a great Sierra Club opportunity that is about to begin….an opportunity that only happens one time each year and it is one of the best outdoor learning experiences the Sierra Club has to offer. This is the Angeles Chapter Wilderness Travel Course (WTC). Some of you have taken the course and are now leaders and/or knowledgeable hikers. For those of you who have not\, enrollment in WTC is something you should consider now. The Wilderness Travel Course helps build outdoor skills so hikers can be safe in the backcountry. The course runs for ten weeks and includes four field trips (two one day and two weekend outings). Students learn map and compass navigation skills for competent hiking off-trail\, snow travel\, rock scrambling techniques\, first aid\, nutrition and lots more. The course is followed by unforgettable experience backpacking trips\, most of which take place in the High Sierra\, Sequoia and Yosemite during the summer months.\nWTC moves you from being a day hiker to a more serious adventurer. You will acquire skills in trip planning\, preparation\, equipment and wilderness safety to take you into the backcountry in all seasons\, beyond roads and trails with new friends that share your interest in the outdoors.\nAgain\, the course runs only one time each year and takes place in Southern California in four locations as follows: Orange County (Tuesdays beginning Jan 6th) Long Beach/South Bay (Wednesdays beginning January 14th); San Gabriel Valley (Tuesdays beginning Jan 20th); West Los Angeles (Wednesdays beginning Jan 21st)\nThe four geographic areas fill up well in advance of the class start date so register early.\nFOR MORE INFORMATION AND TO REGISTER FOR THE COURSE GO TO: http:www.wildernesstravelcourse.org

SUMMARY:💦We Go Chasing Waterfalls
DESCRIPTION:Capturing all the beauty of Wildwood Park in Thousand Oaks — dramatic views\, peaceful canyons\, and two waterfalls — this loop is a group favorite. It’s about five miles long and covers the park’s most scenic highlights\, including Lizard Rock\, Skunk Hollow\, the quiet Eagle Point Trail\, and finally Paradise Falls\, before returning by way of the tranquil Indian Creek Trail. \nWe’ll start down the street from the main Wildwood trailhead. Instead of heading out on the busy Mesa Trail\, we’ll hook up with the Stagecoach Bluff Trail. This single-track path runs parallel to the canyon edge and immediately feels more rugged and natural. We’ll meander through sage scrub and chaparral\, catching glimpses into Wildwood Canyon below. Hawks often circle overhead\, and in spring\, wildflowers brighten the slopes. The trail gently climbs westward until it meets Lizard Rock Trail\, where we turn for the final ascent to the ridge. \nThe climb to Lizard Rock is short but scenic\, winding through sandstone outcrops that frame sweeping views of Thousand Oaks\, Mountclef Ridge\, and the Santa Monica Mountains. At the top\, Lizard Rock — a large sandstone formation resembling its namesake — offers one of the best panoramas in the park. It’s a perfect place for us to rest\, take in the view\, and appreciate how close this wild landscape sits to the city below. \nFrom Lizard Rock\, we continue down the trail as it descends toward Skunk Hollow\, a quiet\, grassy meadow nestled in the canyon. Despite its name\, Skunk Hollow is lovely and peaceful — often dotted with wildflowers and shaded by oaks. From here we hop onto the Eagle Point Trail\, one of Wildwood’s lesser-traveled paths. This stretch feels remote\, winding along the park’s northern slopes with long\, open views across Wildwood Mesa. We climb gently\, then begin a steady descent into Wildwood Canyon. \nAt the end of Eagle Point Trail\, we connect to the main Paradise Falls Trail\, which leads to the park’s most famous landmark. The 40-foot waterfall tumbles year-round into a shaded pool\, making it an irresistible stop for another snack or photo break. \nOn our return to the cars we follow the Indian Creek Trail\, a quieter alternative to the main canyon route. This trail traces the creek upstream through oak woodlands. Along the way\, we’ll pass Little Falls\, a smaller\, charming cascade tucked into the canyon wall. From there\, the trail climbs gradually out of the canyon and rejoins the mesa above\, where an easy stroll across the ball fields brings us back to our starting point. \nThis loop showcases the best of Wildwood — sweeping vistas\, hidden hollows\, and the soothing sound of waterfalls — all in a moderate five-mile hike with about 600 feet of elevation gain.

SUMMARY:ELECTRIC LIGHT PARADE / Halloween Ghost Ride
DESCRIPTION:Cross-posting this fun event hosted by John Quinn. The Ventura Electric Light Parade.\nLight-up your bike and join us for this special Halloween cruise to the sounds of Monster Mash and other haunting tunes as we roll. Costumes are welcome\, or just be yourself. Do be mindful of long capes or fringe that could get caught in your tires. \nWe will be riding up to main street to toss out candy to the tick-or-treaters. Come prepared with a bag that you can put on your handlebars filled with candy. It so much fun for these kiddos to see our colorful bikes roll up and discover we are tossing out candy! \nThese rides are a “cruise” at a leisurely pace\, along the beach. A sunset ride out and a night ride on the way back! The pace is so relaxing (slow)\, you might want to bring your “analog” bike instead. \n\nBoom boxes are pulled by the leader (John Quinn) and the sweep (Thomas Healy). The playlist is pretty cool and sometimes pumping music!\nThis event belongs to “Ventura Electric Light Parade” and we are cross-posting this – so we’ll be guests on this ride.\n\nGET LIT! \n\nDecorate your bike with lights galore. It’s not just pretty but helps with safety on the road. You can find lights on Amazon. I’m sure it’s the start of a new obsession!\nI suggest putting lights on your bike the day before\, as it can take time to get them on just right.\n\nHere is John’s event page: \n\nhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/295050229712976/\n\nHere’s a video of a past ride:\nhttps://fb.watch/CdM4LD082B/ \nTHE START / END TIME DESCRIPTION.\n📍 Meet at Beach House Tacos on the Ventura Pier by 5:45 PM \n\nBeach House Tacos\, 668 E Harbor Blvd\, Ventura\, CA 93001\n\n⏰ Parade rolls out at 6:00 PM \nMeet at 5:00 if you would like to have a pre-ride dinner at Beach House Tacos. \nMILEAGE: 20 MILES \n\nMost riders are “analog” so between 8-10mph (slo-o-o-ow)\nE-bikes are welcome!\n\nBE PREPARED\nImportant: This is a night ride. Be sure to have a working headlight and tail light on your bike. \n\nCandy for the trick-or-treaters.\nLight-up your bike!\nCostume – Encouraged\, but optional.\nMake sure you come prepared with tools to change a flat or add air to a tire.\nBeing by the beach and evening\, dress in layers.\nWater\, of course!\nHelmet\n\nLOCATION / ADDRESS MEETUP \n\nBeach House Tacos\, 668 E Harbor Blvd\, Ventura\, CA 93001\n\nPARKING\nParking structure next to the pier. https://maps.app.goo.gl/eiG3xAzsRnP17uTt6\n$2 per hour/$10 max.
