DESCRIPTION:Join us for a short but heart-pounding hike through the old stomping grounds of Edgar Rice Burroughs in Caballero Canyon\, I’ll be taking you on some HWD Ridge trails you probably have not seen in this familiar canyon. We’ll take a snack break on Gizmo Peak. \nHike is about 4 miles with over 1\,000′ total ascent and is rated MEDIUM+ due to terrain. From the 101 Freeway\, exit at Reseda Blvd and turn south. Drive for about two miles. SUMMARY:Hike at O'Neill Regional Park - Vista Outlook
DESCRIPTION:The hike we will be doing is approximately 5 miles with 870 ft. of elevation gain. \nWe will begin at the Live Oak Trail trailhead. This is where you will see on the map that the Live Oak Trail hits the paved road. This is the parking lot closest to the Edna Spaulding Trail. (There should also be someone at the gate when you come in that can direct you where to go.) \nWe start by going up Live Oak Trail and up Vista Trail. We will take back Hoffman Homestead Trail\, Coyote Trail\, and back to Live Oak. DESCRIPTION:DESCRIPTION: This challenging single-track delivers a solid workout through chaparral and shady oak forests\, feeling like several different hikes rolled into one. The trail drops off the fire road into a shaded canopy\, then climbs through steep sections with views nearly all of the way. You’ll experience diverse terrain from oak woodlands in the north to expansive mountain and valley views in the south. \nWildlife watching is excellent here – spot California ground squirrels\, various birds\, and occasionally bobcats. The trail features well-graded switchbacks through gorgeous native oak and chaparral\, though expect some exposed sections between the tree cover. Most hikers combine this with Canyon Trail for a rewarding loop that showcases Placerita Canyon’s best terrain and scenery. \nDETAILS: \n\nHike leader volunteer(s): Tim R.\nMeet: Los Pinetos Trailhead at 7:45 am\, departure at 8:00 am sharp (Oct 25).\nDistance: Approximately 7.1 miles.\nElevation gain: Approximately 1\,827 feet.\nTime: Approximately 3.5 hours hiking including a snack break.\nConditioning: You need to be in generally good physical condition.\nDogs: Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.\nRestrooms – None.\nAdventure Pass: Not required.\n\nIMPORTANT NOTES: We’ll hike at a brisk pace and ask everyone to stay with the group for a friendly and safe outing. DESCRIPTION:This 30-mile ride begins at scenic Avila Beach with a light trek on the Bob Jones Trail. Our route intensifies as we climb up See Canyon Road\, passing by orchards and vineyards nestled along the way. The pinnacle of the route is a gorgeous summit view at the top of Prefumo Canyon. We’ll take in the accomplishment of our climb before shifting downhill to Prefumo Canyon Road’s open space and cattle-dotted grass. We’ll loop around and explore downtown San Luis Obispo then down S. SUMMARY:💦We Go Chasing Waterfalls
DESCRIPTION:Capturing all the beauty of Wildwood Park in Thousand Oaks — dramatic views\, peaceful canyons\, and two waterfalls — this loop is a group favorite. It’s about five miles long and covers the park’s most scenic highlights\, including Lizard Rock\, Skunk Hollow\, the quiet Eagle Point Trail\, and finally Paradise Falls\, before returning by way of the tranquil Indian Creek Trail. \nWe’ll start down the street from the main Wildwood trailhead. Instead of heading out on the busy Mesa Trail\, we’ll hook up with the Stagecoach Bluff Trail. This single-track path runs parallel to the canyon edge and immediately feels more rugged and natural. We’ll meander through sage scrub and chaparral\, catching glimpses into Wildwood Canyon below. Hawks often circle overhead\, and in spring\, wildflowers brighten the slopes. The trail gently climbs westward until it meets Lizard Rock Trail\, where we turn for the final ascent to the ridge. \nThe climb to Lizard Rock is short but scenic\, winding through sandstone outcrops that frame sweeping views of Thousand Oaks\, Mountclef Ridge\, and the Santa Monica Mountains. At the top\, Lizard Rock — a large sandstone formation resembling its namesake — offers one of the best panoramas in the park. It’s a perfect place for us to rest\, take in the view\, and appreciate how close this wild landscape sits to the city below. \nFrom Lizard Rock\, we continue down the trail as it descends toward Skunk Hollow\, a quiet\, grassy meadow nestled in the canyon. Despite its name\, Skunk Hollow is lovely and peaceful — often dotted with wildflowers and shaded by oaks. From here we hop onto the Eagle Point Trail\, one of Wildwood’s lesser-traveled paths. This stretch feels remote\, winding along the park’s northern slopes with long\, open views across Wildwood Mesa. We climb gently\, then begin a steady descent into Wildwood Canyon. \nAt the end of Eagle Point Trail\, we connect to the main Paradise Falls Trail\, which leads to the park’s most famous landmark. The 40-foot waterfall tumbles year-round into a shaded pool\, making it an irresistible stop for another snack or photo break. \nOn our return to the cars we follow the Indian Creek Trail\, a quieter alternative to the main canyon route. This trail traces the creek upstream through oak woodlands. Along the way\, we’ll pass Little Falls\, a smaller\, charming cascade tucked into the canyon wall. From there\, the trail climbs gradually out of the canyon and rejoins the mesa above\, where an easy stroll across the ball fields brings us back to our starting point. \nThis loop showcases the best of Wildwood — sweeping vistas\, hidden hollows\, and the soothing sound of waterfalls — all in a moderate five-mile hike with about 600 feet of elevation gain.

This is the Angeles Chapter Wilderness Travel Course (WTC). Some of you have taken the course and are now leaders and/or knowledgeable hikers. For those of you who have not\, enrollment in WTC is something you should consider now. The Wilderness Travel Course helps build outdoor skills so hikers can be safe in the backcountry. The course runs for ten weeks and includes four field trips (two one day and two weekend outings). Students learn map and compass navigation skills for competent hiking off-trail\, snow travel\, rock scrambling techniques\, first aid\, nutrition and lots more. The course is followed by unforgettable experience backpacking trips\, most of which take place in the High Sierra\, Sequoia and Yosemite during the summer months.\nWTC moves you from being a day hiker to a more serious adventurer. The Ventura Electric Light Parade.\nLight-up your bike and join us for this special Halloween cruise to the sounds of Monster Mash and other haunting tunes as we roll. Costumes are welcome\, or just be yourself. Do be mindful of long capes or fringe that could get caught in your tires. \nWe will be riding up to main street to toss out candy to the tick-or-treaters. Come prepared with a bag that you can put on your handlebars filled with candy. It so much fun for these kiddos to see our colorful bikes roll up and discover we are tossing out candy! \nThese rides are a “cruise” at a leisurely pace\, along the beach. A sunset ride out and a night ride on the way back! The pace is so relaxing (slow)\, you might want to bring your “analog” bike instead. \n\nBoom boxes are pulled by the leader (John Quinn) and the sweep (Thomas Healy). Please read the written directions. \nPlease post in the comments if you will bring a fire wood bundle as your pot luck item. \nFirewood (no construction wood please): Dennis\, Rita \nThe Hike. 2 – 3:30p.\nThis hike is on the easy end of the intermediate spectrum. Beginners are welcome\, but if it gets too hard\, they can always turn around and go back the way we came. Nearly all of the elevation gain is in the first half. \nThis is a social hike. The event host will be moving slowly and stopping at various points to let people catch up. Those that wish to move ahead at a faster pace\, are welcome to do so if they know the route\, but are on their own regarding navigation. \nMeet at the Sycamore Canyon Trail head inside of Sycamore Canyon Campground\, across from Sycamore Cove beach. \nFrom the trailhead\, we head up a mostly flat trail for about a 1/2 mile. Left onto the Overlook Trail\, climbing 400′ over the next mile. It ends\, and we turn left. We follow the ridge for about 1/2 mile\, with about 200′ of loss and 100′ of gain. \nFor return\, we follow our tracks back to the scenic trail\, turn right\, and follow it down for 3/4 mile\, again reaching Big Sycamore Canyon Trail\, and turning right back to our starting point. \nThe Beach Party. 4 – 9:30p. Cars have to be gone by 10p.\nWe’ll go back to our cars and gather up our things for the beach party. From the trail head\, it’s about 1/4 mile to the camp ground parking lot\, then another 1/4 mile to the beach party area across the road at Sycamore Cove Beach. There are picnic tables and fire pits\, but we must supply our own wood to burn. There is wood for sale at the camp ground across the street. \nIf your pot luck item requires utensils\, please bring them. \nThe fire pits on the beach are first come\, first serve. We have members that will arrive early in the morning to secure our spot. \nPlease bring something warm to put on. It can get cool and windy near the beach as the sun drops. Each guest will receive a tasting cup and a map of the participating tasting sites in Downtown Ventura. \nEach tasting site will have a designated area set up for Wine Walk guests to sample the amazing wines or beers! Wine tasting will end at 7:00 pm. \nAs you stroll down Main Street you will be surrounded by a winter holiday ambiance of live entertainment\, beautiful holiday lighting and snowfall from 6:45 pm-8 pm at the Main Stage. This is the Angeles Chapter Wilderness Travel Course (WTC). Some of you have taken the course and are now leaders and/or knowledgeable hikers. For those of you who have not\, enrollment in WTC is something you should consider now. The Wilderness Travel Course helps build outdoor skills so hikers can be safe in the backcountry. The course runs for ten weeks and includes four field trips (two one day and two weekend outings). Students learn map and compass navigation skills for competent hiking off-trail\, snow travel\, rock scrambling techniques\, first aid\, nutrition and lots more. The course is followed by unforgettable experience backpacking trips\, most of which take place in the High Sierra\, Sequoia and Yosemite during the summer months.\nWTC moves you from being a day hiker to a more serious adventurer.
