SUMMARY:Angel Vista - Full Moon Potluck hike
DESCRIPTION:Start at 5pm due to the heat and the moonrise time. \n3.0 miles\, 800′ gain\, easy-intermediate.\nMoonrise 8:52 pm\nPhoto by Helen \nLet’s enjoy the gorgeous sunset\, full moon\, and fun loaded potluck picnic at the beautiful Angel Vista! \nThis is a potluck hike. Please bring food\, drinks to share.\nIf your item requires utensils/plates/toothpicks\, etc.\, please bring them.\nYou may wish to bring your own cup\, plate\, and utensils in case there aren’t any. \nSnacks and/or beverages to share \nThis hike is rated easy-intermediate because it is a continuous incline for 1.5 miles. This isn’t real steep\, but it is continuous\, and many beginner hikers have indicated this should be rated intermediate. \nThat said\, there is no reason a fit beginner cannot complete this hike. If needed\, just stop and rest along the way\, even if it’s every 50 steps. This is not a conditioning hike\, it is a social hike\, and you really can’t get lost. \nThe only junction is 200 yards before the top\, where we’ll turn right to complete the climb. \nAt the top\, there is a picnic table and 360 degree incredible views that are especially wonderful at night. We’ll have a snack-share social event at the top for 30-60 minutes before heading back the way we came. Please bring some food and drink to share\, and utensils of your item requires it. \nThe top has been known to sometimes be very cool and windy. Please bring something to put on in case it is that way at the top. \nInteresting Notes \nTree Tobacco\nThe Cahuilla Indians used the leaves interchangeably with other tobacco species in hunting rituals and as a poultice to treat swellings\, bruises\, cuts\, wounds\, boils\, sores\, inflamed throat\, and swollen glands. It does not contain nicotine. \nIt contains anabasine\, a similar compound\, which is highly toxic to humans and animals. It is more toxic than nicotine. Ingestion of the leaves can be fatal. It is being investigated for use as a biofuel. All parts of this plant are toxic. Used as an insecticide. Do not smoke. \nElderberry\nThe blue or purple berries are gathered and made into elderberry wine\, jam\, syrup\, and pies. The entire flower cluster can be dipped in batter and fried while petals can be eaten raw or made into a fragrant and tasty tea. Spit out the seeds. Elderflower water is also used in perfumes and sweets. \nMost agree that they do need to be cooked if you are going to eat more than just a few out of hand. That’s because they have a small amount of cyanide producing glycosides\, which are released upon digestion. Fully ripe black berries are not toxic and you can eat as many as you like. Boiling or baking takes care of any “toxic” issue as does drying raw berries. \nDirections:\nRosewood Trailhead\n398 Regal Oak Ct.\nThousand Oaks\, CA 91320 \nFrom the 101\nVentu Park exit\, South (toward ocean).\nRight on Lynn Road for 1000′.\nLeft on Regal Oak Ct. for 1/3 mi.\nPark on the street \nHike Distance: 3.0 miles\nGain: 800′\nDistribution: Most of the incline occurs in the first half\, which is a continuous climb. \nDifficulty: Easy Intermediate.\nShape: Out and back.\nPace: approx. 2.0 mph.\nTrail Type: Double track\, single track.\nDuration: 3.5 hours\nDogs: Dogs must be kept on leash and away from picnic table.\nRestrooms: No\nDrinking Fountains: No.\nParking: Free along the street. \nWhat to bring\n1 liter of water for every 3 miles.\nHiking shoes/boots. Not required\, but recommended.\nFlashlight or headlamp.\nSunscreen and/or hat as needed. \nFAQ\nHiking Plus Page Links\nDisclaimer / Release of Liability

SUMMARY:Rancho Potrero trails loop in Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa ~ Gentler Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:To beat the heat\, we will start at 8:00am. The hike begins at the parking lot to the Ranch Potrero Trail\, turning right onto Olympia Farm Trail. We will check out old Olympia Farms Amphitheater and Picnic area and loop back to Ranch Potrero Trail. At the juncture of Sycamore Canyon Fire Road\, we will turn left onto Rancho Sierra Vista. \nThis area is pretty exposed\, but offers a nice ocean breeze a majority of the time. “Satwiwa” is Chumashan and directly translates to “the bluffs\,” which can also translate to “higher places\,” and is the Chumashan name used for a former village near the current culture center.\nhttps://www.conejovalleyguide.com \nThe eastern area is moderately flat and you will see bluffs to the west\, leading to a moderate hill. At the peak\, you’ll have awesome views of Big Sycamore Canyon Trail\, which descend from Satwiwa to the Pacific Ocean along a historic Chumash trade route\, as well as toward Boney. We will continue hiking the Loop Trail on the other side when we return to the Sycamore Canyon Fire Road and head back to the car. \nThis is about 5-6 miles with an elevation gain/loss of approximately 1000’ \nDirections:\nExit 101 at Lynn Road in Thousand Oaks. Go west for 5.5 miles\, and turn left\, under the Rancho Sierra Vista arch\, into the National Park. Drive to the end of the driveway\, and park near the restrooms. \nNOTE: Please review theguidelines to participate in our hikes. Here are some highlights – Restrictions apply for your safety and ours:\n• Don’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\n• No “Plus Ones” on this hike\n• Plan on completing the entire hike at moderate rate(2.5 MPH)\n• Please bring plenty of water. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals. \nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. SUMMARY:Encinal to Trancas Canyon and Bridge - Intermediate Hike
DESCRIPTION:This out-and-back hike on the Backbone Trail is about 8 miles with about 1\,550′ of total elevation gain (there will be a shorter 5+ mile option\, see below). The hike starts and ends at our usual trailhead for the Encinal Canyon hike. We’ll cross the road\, descend into a shaded single-track trail with a couple of lovely small water crossings\, then ascend until we get to the big tree that we use as a rendezvous point when we hike the Newton Canyon trail. That’s 5.3 miles. I will turn around at that point but Kathy will continue on and lead the longer hike to the bridge over the creek\, completing a round trip of 8.3 miles. Along the way we’ll see the monument commemorating Arnold Schwarzenegger’s donation of the last 40 acres to complete the end-to-end Backbone Trail. \nTrailhead Directions: Exit 101 at Kanan Road\, and drive south to the Mulholland Road intersection\, where you’ll turn right. Keep to the left\, as Encinal splits off within the first half mile or so. Drive west on Encinal to the parking lot at the trailhead. \nPlease review the guidelines to participate in our hikes. Here are some highlights and a link to the guidelines: \nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\nPlan on completing the entire hike at a moderate pace or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nAll participants must be 18 or older\, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.\nNo dogs on Weekday Trailblazers hikes\n\nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY\nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY:\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. August 14-17\, 2025 \nJoin us for a fun and educational beach campout! \nMorro Bay State Park is located 13 miles west of San Luis Obispo\, on the Central Coast about 3.5 hours from Santa Clarita. The park features a lagoon and natural bay habitats\, and a natural history museum. Our CHC geologist\, Mary Bates will be along to teach about the geological features of the area. On the lagoon’s northeastern and eastern edges\, there are saltwater and brackish marshes that support thriving bird populations. Two of the Nine Sisters chain of volcanic peaks leading from San Luis Obispo to Morro Bay\, Black Hill & Cerro Cabrillo\, are within park boundaries. Black Hill has a trail winding through dense stands of Monterey Pine trees and offers a panoramic view of the greater Morro Bay area at its summit. Cerro Cabrillo has even more trails to explore all along its base. It is near Montana de Oro\, which also has some beautiful trails. \nThe Community Hiking Club of SCV has reserved a limited number of pre-paid campsites which are available for sharing with other CHC campers. The cost of the reserved campsites will be divided equally among the number of campers per site. Each camper will be advised of their portion prior to the trip and is responsible for paying the party who reserved the campsite upon arrival. \nEach campsite has a fire ring and picnic table with water spigots nearby. There are flush toilets and TOKEN-operated shower facilities in place. An RV sanitation station and water-fill station are also available. Firewood is for sale from the campground host and proceeds go to help the Central Coast State Parks Association. \nOnly 2 vehicles maximum per campsite\, so carpooling from SCV is highly recommended. No extra vehicles in campsites beyond the 2 vehicle limit. Trailers and motorcycles count as vehicles. Additional vehicles may be parked just outside the state park. SUMMARY:Paradise Falls - Moonridge - Easy Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:3.3 miles\, 800′ gain\, fit beginner \nA hike to Paradise Falls is one of the most popular things to do for those visiting Simi Valley\, yet a lot of people that live nearby rarely make this fun hike or perhaps have never done it. There are several paths one can take to the falls. This one is the Moonridge loop from Mark T. \nThe waterfall is always flowing. It is fed by urban run-off\, surface water waste created by urbanization\, and feeds into a small pond. \nWe start from the tennis court lot 4 blocks E. of the main parking lot and across the road. \nWe’ll head about 100 steps north and go down and into an under-street tunnel to cross the road. Turn right out of the tunnel\, and follow this path around. \nThere are several splits of this trail\, so follow the group. The trail leads through a thick canopy to the bottom of the steps that lead to the main parking lot. We’ll regroup there. \nWe’ll continue along the Moonridge trail\, following it around\, crossing a fire road\, and left at the North Teepee trail for about 500′ to a large Teepee. We can take a few pictures\, there’s a drinking fountain\, and we can rest a moment. Then we’ll continue down to the waterfall and hang out for a short while. \nTo continue\, we’ll head partly back up and cross the back side of the waterfall along Wildwood Canyon trail. After about another 200 yards\, we’ll come to couple picnic tables on the right where we’ll share snacks and beverages. \nReturning Early\nFor those that wish to head back instead of hanging around for the entire snack share\, you are responsible for finding your own way back: \nYou can either follow the posted route and map\, or take this alternate route: left at the next junction\, a relatively steep up for 200 yds. back to the Teepee\, turn right and continue 1/2 mile until it dead-ends\, turn right. After 1/2 mile\, you reach the main parking lot. Turn right at the road for 4 blocks and cross the street to find the tennis court parking lot. \nContinuing with the group\nWe’ll continue for 1/3 mile along the Wildwood Canyon trail\, cross the bridge\, make a left\, and follow the Indian Creek trail for 1 mile until arriving back through the tunnel and back to the parking lot. \nIf you are not following the leader on the return\, you should know:\nAfter crossing the bridge and turning left\, you will come to a creek. We’ll be taking a sharp turn to the left a few feet before the second creek. It’s easy to miss and almost doesn’t even look like a trail. \nYou will see several plants of note \nPrickly Pear Cactus\nInside and fruit are edible. Remove needles and scrape to remove hairs\, cut top off\, hollow out to make water container. Burn or scrape off needles – even stones can be used if you don’t have a knife. Fruit peels easily. Eat seeds and all. Use duct tape to remove thorns from hands. \nSugar Bush\nLooks almost like Laurel Sumac. Pointy leaves\, which is one way to tell it apart from the Lemonade berry. Has fuzzy red berries in long clumps that can be used to make a lemonade like drink. Sap from the fruit can be used as a sweetener. Leaves are edible. \nDirections: \nWildwood Park\n635 W Avenida De Los Arboles\nThousand Oaks\, CA 91360 \nFrom the 118\nCA-118 west to CA-23 south\, 4.8 miles to exit 15\, Avenida de los Arboles.\nTurn right (west) on Avenida de los Arboles for 3.3 miles until 4 blocks before it ends. There will be tennis courts on the right with a parking lot. \nParking: If the lot is full\, additional lot 750′ back the way you came (ESE of tennis court lot)\, or use the neighborhood across the street. \nThe Hike\nDistance: 3.3 miles\nElevation Gain: 800′\nPace: 2.0 mph\nDifficulty: Easy Intermediate\nDogs: Yes.\nRestrooms: Yes – when we arrive at the main parking lot.\nDrinking Fountains: Yes\, at the TeePee\, almost half way through the hike.\nParking: Free.\nTrail: Double and single track\, fire road. \nWhat to Bring\n1-2 liters of water.\nSnacks and/or beverages to share\nHiking shoes preferred\, but athletic shoes will be OK.\nFlashlight or headlamp for evening hikes.\nRepellent – There can be gnats. \nFAQ\nHiking Plus Page Links\nDisclaimer / Release of Liability

SUMMARY:Gardiner Basin Loop with Rae Lakes
DESCRIPTION:Gardiner Basin Loop with Rae Lakes. I am posting this trip to gauge interest from the club\, please add your name to the waiting list if you want to join. I will update once permits are in hand in mid-February. If you are willing to be alternate trip leader on the backcountry permit please let me know. \nTHIS IS NOT A BEGINNER TRIP. This trip passes through some of the most beautiful parts of the Sierras including Rae Lakes. It is also high altitude\, starting at Onion Valley (9200) and going up from there. We will cross 5 high passes (Kearsarge (11\,800)\, Gardiner (11\,200)\, Sixty Lakes Col (11\,700)\, Glen Pass (11\,900)\, and then Kearsarge again) over 5-6 days. Sixty Lakes Col is a class 2 scramble. Daily mileage is around 10 miles per day. Bear barrels are required. \nRoute details via CalTopo https://caltopo.com/m/072PR . The majority of the trip is an off-the-maintained-trail-system loop requiring navigational skills. Bring a compass and a map. Although rugged\, this trip will be conducted at a relaxed pace with no more than 12 miles per day. Your trip leader likes to stop\, breathe\, take pictures\, and enjoy being in the wilderness. \nCarpooling from San Diego to the trailhead will be arranged once the attendees have been finalized. \nItinerary: \nSaturday August 16th- drive to Onion Valley (approximately 7 hours drive from San Diego)\, car camp at or near trailhead\nSunday Aug 17th – Enter wilderness via Onion Valley Trailhead\, over Kearsarge Pass to Charlotte Lake. From start at Onion Valley (9200′) over Kearsarge pass (11\,800) 8.3 miles\, elevation gain/loss 2745/1539\nMonday Aug 18th – Over Gardiner pass into Gardiner basin\, camp in the basin. From start at Charlotte Lake (10400′) over Gardiner pass (11\,262) and descend to Gardiner Creek (8900) 6.6 miles\, elevation gain/loss 1757/3122. Should have time to explore Gardiner Basin after setting camp.\nTuesday Aug 19th – From Gardiner creek (8900) follow the creek upstream to lake 11407\, then over Sixty Lakes Col (11\,732) and descend into Sixty Lakes Basin to camp there. 6.8 miles\, elevation gain/loss 2800/1270. Short mileage as the climb over the col may be challenging.\nWednesday Aug 20th – From Sixty Lakes Basin (10630) over Arrowhead Gap (also noted as basin notch on some maps) to rejoin PCT north of Rae lakes at Arrowhead lake\, proceed south through Rae lakes and over Glen Pass (11991) to camp at Kearsarge Lakes. 10.7 miles\, elevation gain/loss 2672/2304\nThursday Aug 21st – Back to Onion Valley Trailhead. 5.7 mi\, over Kearsarge pass (11818) and down to parking lot (9200). Should get back in time to drive back to San Diego. \nDisclaimer: You are responsible for yourself and your safety. The trip leader is not a professional guide. You are responsible for making good decisions. Be prepared for the terrain\, weather\, distance\, and elevation. As with any trip\, the unexpected can happen including inclement weather. We’ll climb steadily for the next two miles\, making long\, looping switchbacks. As we climb higher\, we’ll get a nice view not only of Big Sycamore Canyon and Boney Mountain. When we reach the Overlook Fire Road we’ll take a break and enjoy views of La Jolla Valley. We’ll head south on the Overlook Fire Road\, which follows the ridge that divides Big Sycamore Canyon and La Jolla Canyon. Keep your eyes peeled for Anacapa Island\, visible between two hills. \nAfter a couple of miles on the Overlook Trail we’ll hit the Scenic Trail and traverse the ridge above the Great Sand Dune to a prominence and a picnic bench where we can look down the sand dune.. \n[vc_message message_box_color=”warning”]HIKE IS ABOUT 9 MILES WITH ABOUT 1300 FT TOTAL ASCENT AND IS RATED MEDIUM+.  SEE THE HIKE RATING GUIDE[/vc_message] \nDirections:\nTake PCH to Sycamore Canyon Rd. SUMMARY:Digital Nav: Find\, create\, import\, export\, GPX maps and tracks.
DESCRIPTION:If you’re a hiker or backpacker\, you’re probably familiar with Alltrails and maybe you even record your own tracks on Garmin or Strava. \nHere’s where we take it to the next level: \nCome learn how to create your own maps\, learn about off the beaten path hikes\, understand terrain\, beta\, routs\, and get precise weather for the wilderness locations you’ll visit. \nFind and import tacks\, create maps and export or share tracks to your mobile device or with friends. \nWe’ll focus on Caltopo and Gaia. Bring your laptop\, tablet\, or preferred device to follow along. \nWTC alumni likely learned some of these skills already but area welcome to join for a refresher crash course.

If we are done by 10:00 it will not have hit 80 degrees yet! We will start this hike at Santa Rosa Regional Park at the parking area in Hill Canyon\, cross the bridge over the runoff creek\, and stroll a mile before turning onto the fire road up the Western Plateau. We will continue straight at the crest of the fire road and then turn left on the Plateau Rim loop and finally descend down the Hawk Canyon Trail. There are a lot of trees on the Hawk Canyon trail. The Hawk Canyon Trail connects to Western Plateau Trail back to the parking lot. This is approximately 6 miles with an elevation gain of approximately 1000 feet.\nDirections: \nFrom Moorpark Road in the Santa Rosa Valley\, drive west on Santa Rosa Road for 3.7 miles\, turn left (south) on Hill Canyon Road for about 0.6 miles to the parking lot. \nFrom the 101 Freeway in Camarillo\, take exit 52 onto Santa Rosa Road and drive northeast. After 5 miles\, turn right onto Hill Canyon Road for about 0.6 miles to the parking lot. \nPlease review the guidelines (link to the guidelines) to join our hikes. \nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nPlease do not show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nNo dogs.\nNo “Plus Ones” Weekday Trailblazer hikes.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Avoiding the Heat at Ray Miller Trail ~ Gentler 5.3 miles 1000' 8am Start
DESCRIPTION:Although even the Malibu coast is forecast to be in the high 80s by late afternoon\, we’ll avoid this and even warmer inland temperatures by starting early. We’ll hike up to the Overlook Trail fire road and back\, for a total of 5.3 miles and 1000′ of elevation gain and loss. \n\nThere is currently a Red Flag Warning for mountains and canyons in Ventura County for Thursday. I will check wind direction on Thursday morning; please check to see if the hike has been cancelled before driving to the trailhead. \n\nThe trail is an awesome blend of ocean and mountain views in Malibu’s La Jolla Canyon. We will start from the trailhead which follows the canyon eastward\, away from the ocean. Then\, it quickly brings you back toward the ocean at a gradual incline. There’s a great lookout spot where it gives you a breathtaking view of the Pacific Coast Highway against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean\, with sweeping views toward Mugu Rock on the west and Sycamore Cove on the east. After another peak\, you’ll start a slight decline that brings you to the Overlook Trail fire road where we will turn around. Along the way\, we’ll be treated to magnificent sweeping views of La Jolla and Big Sycamore Canyons\, and of course\, the largest ocean in the world. On a clear day\, the Channel Islands are easily within sight\, although the marine layer has been pretty prominent this summer. \nThis is a 5-6 mile out and back hike with an elevation gain/loss of about 1000’. \nDirections: \nFrom Los Angeles\, take the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) north\, 22 miles from Malibu Canyon Rd. Across the street from Thornhill Broome Beach is the entrance to La Jolla Canyon. It is very clearly marked. Turn right. \nFrom Ventura\, take PCH eastward\, and turn left 4 miles after Las Posas Road into La Jolla Canyon. \nHeads up: There is a parking fee in the lot (or free with state parking pass). There is free parking on PCH just a short walk to the trailhead. \nPlease review the guidelines to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike at a moderate pace.\nBring water\, especially on this very hot day.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Long Canyon - Upside down lollipop
DESCRIPTION:Easy Intermediate\, 4 miles\, 900′ gain\nThe address given\, is not the address of the hike. It is a nearby address that may cause your GPS to drive past the trailhead. \nThis is an upside down lollipop that takes us first to the highest point in the area where the views are fantastic. The return is down around the back side of the hill at the parking lot. \nThere is an initial climb for about 2/3 miles and 425′ of gain that can be strenuous for many if done non-stop\, and there is one other strenuous climb of just under 1/2 mile and 225′ of gain up a fire road. All the rest of the portions of this hike are down or have mild climbs. \nStarting from the Long Canyon trailhead parking lot\, we head up Long Canyon Trail to a bench. We’ll regroup and let others catch up\,then continue on past the five-points intersection and up to the next bench. We’ll take in the views and have a social event for 30-60 minutes. \nWe’ll head back to the first bench. Those that just want to get back to their cars ASAP can take the right trail down to the lot. The rest will continue up the Sunrise trail and follow it all the way to the Woodridge Loop trail at the top of an asphalt path. \nWe’ll take a “sometimes not easy to see” entrance on the right\, getting on the Woodridge Connector and take it back to the parking lot. \nInteresting Notes: \nTurkey Mullein\nSmashed leaves can be thrown into the water to stupify fish\, causing them to float to the surface\, a practice illegal in most states. The seeds are not toxic to birds and are enjoyed especially by doves and wild turkeys. \nAncient Greeks rolled and dried the leaves\, then used them as wicks for oil lamps. It stalks were used as torches burned at funerals. Many tribes employed the use of mullein leaf tea for coughs\, colds\, and rheumatism. They considered it to be analgesic\, anti-inflammatory\, antispasmodic\, and expectorant. The astringent and demulcent properties of the leaf tea were found useful in cases of diarrhea. \nWild Oats\nThe mature seed of the plant is used as a cereal grain. All oats have edible seeds\, although they are small and hard to harvest in most species. Oats are hard to tell apart from weedy relatives\, so the term “sowing wild oats” came to be used to describe unprofitable activities and destructive sexual liaisons of an unmarried young male that could result in children being born out of wedlock. \nHike\nDistance: 4 miles\nGain: 900\nDistribution: Most of the incline is in the first 15 minutes of the hike. Areas of sand\, gravel\, and rock\, some of it rugged.\nTrail Variations: The beginning is a tough climb.\nDuration: 3.5 hours\nDogs: Yes.\nRestrooms: No\nDrinking Fountains: No.\nParking: Free in the paved parking area in front of the trail head. \nWhat to bring\n1 liter of water for every 3 miles.\nSnacks and/or beverages to share\nHiking shoes preferred\, but athletic shoes will be OK.\nFlashlight or headlamp. \nHosting\nRoute: The host knows the route.\nNavigation: Host memory\, enhanced by GPS navigation as needed.\nHike type: Social.\nWe won’t be hiking at a fast pace because this is a social hike\, not a conditioning hike. SUMMARY:Wendy Lollipop - Cooler location
DESCRIPTION:4.6 miles\, 1000′ gain\, Easy Intermediate\nEasier Option – 2.7 miles\, 320′ gain \nMany have gotten lost relying on GPS. This is the Wendy Trailhead\, where S. Wendy Dr. ends at Potrero Rd. \nHeading out\, we cross a creek\, turn right at the split\, then Turn right at the dead end. We regroup at the visitor center\, where there will be bathrooms. \nWe cross the wooden bridge and go left at the asphalt path. \nAfter 1/3 mile\, those that want the easier path turn left\, go 0.4 miles and turn right at the dead end. After 500′\, wait at the bench for the rest of the group (45 – 60 min). \nThe rest will continue down for 3/4 mile. There will be a porta-potty and picnic table. We’ll regroup\, then turn left and go about 1.3 miles and another 435′ of gain before turning left and heading up about 1/2 mile. \nAt the top\, we’ll head left for 500′ and arrive at a bench and overlook. We’ll share snacks and beverages for 30-60 minutes\, then head down 500′\, turn right at the junction\, and return to our cars. \nIf you wish to return before the social event completes\, study the map so you can find your way back. \nThe Route\nHike Distance: 4.6 mi / 2.7 mi\nGain: 1000′ / 320′\nDistribution: Most of the incline is concentrated in the middle of this hike.\nDifficulty: Easy Intermediate / Fit beginner\nShape: Lollipop.\nPace: approx. 2.0 mph.\nTrail Type: Fire road\, double track\, single track.\nDuration: 3.5 hours\nDogs: We pass a “no dogs” sign.\nRestrooms: Yes\nDrinking Fountains: No.\nParking: Free along street.\nWhat to bring: 1 liter of water for every 3 miles.\nHiking shoes/boots.
