SUMMARY:Carpinteria to Santa Barbara Coastal Ride - Out and Back
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the cooler weather and coastal views! We start near Padaro Beach Grill in Carpinteria and head up Padaro Lane into Summerland. Then proceed up the coast into Montecito enjoying the beautiful views of Butterfly Beach (home of Four Seasons Resort Biltmore) and onto the bike paths next to the Santa Barbara waterfront. We ride through Pershing Park\, hop over the 101 Freeway and take a brief tour of downtown Santa Barbara on bike friendly paths. We then retrace our route back to the cars.\nMake sure you bring along a spare inner tube.\nMEETUP LOCATION AND TIME: 9am. Park on Santa Clause Lane (near the railroad tracks) about 100 yards South from Padaro Lane.\nPARKING FEE: Free\nROUTE\nDISTANCE: 23 miles\nELEVATION GAIN: 900 feet\nLUNCH: Our plan is to eat lunch at Padaro Beach Grill at the end of the ride. DESCRIPTION:The hike we will be doing is approximately 5 miles with 870 ft. of elevation gain. \nWe will begin at the Live Oak Trail trailhead. This is where you will see on the map that the Live Oak Trail hits the paved road. This is the parking lot closest to the Edna Spaulding Trail. (There should also be someone at the gate when you come in that can direct you where to go.) \nWe start by going up Live Oak Trail and up Vista Trail. We will take back Hoffman Homestead Trail\, Coyote Trail\, and back to Live Oak. Bring your dancing shoes. Yes\, there is an area to dance!\n\n————————– \n\nCOST: “Nada!” This concert is “free” and open to the public!\nFOOD: All event goers are welcome to pack their own picnic dinner & eating utensils — or hit the food trucks. Take note — this is not a potluck so make sure you bring food or some money for the food trucks!\nSEATING: Please bring your own camping/folding chairs and/or blankets to the park.\nDRESS: Dress comfortably but bring a jacket for the evening. SUMMARY:Ray Miller Trail in La Jolla Canyon ~ Gentler Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:This hike will be Gentler Intermediate and Earlier of the Tuesday hikes!\nThe trail is an awesome blend of ocean and mountain views in Malibu’s La Jolla Canyon. We will start from the trailhead which follows the canyon eastward\, away from the ocean. Then\, it quickly brings you back toward the ocean at a gradual incline. There’s a great lookout spot where it gives you a breathtaking view of the Pacific Coast Highway against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean\, with sweeping views toward Mugu Rock on the west and Sycamore Cove on the east. After another peak\, you’ll start a slight decline that brings you to the fire road where we will turn around. Along the way\, we’ll be treated to magnificent sweeping views of La Jolla and Big Sycamore Canyons\, and of course\, the largest ocean in the world. On a clear day\, the Channel Islands are easily within sight\, although the marine layer has been pretty prominent this summer.\nThis is a 5-6 mile out and back hike with an elevation gain/loss of about 1000’. \nDirections: \nFrom Los Angeles\, take the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) north\, 22 miles from Malibu Canyon Rd. Across the street from Thornhill Broome Beach is the entrance to La Jolla Canyon. It is very clearly marked. Turn right. \nFrom Ventura\, take PCH eastward\, and turn left 4 miles after Las Posas Road into La Jolla Canyon. \nHeads up: There is a parking fee in the lot (or free with state parking pass). SUMMARY:Sherwood Forest ~ Los Robles Scenic Loop - Intermediate Hike
DESCRIPTION:This week we’ll hike about 6 miles with 1100’ of total elevation gain\, spread out nicely\, with a little bonus loop through Oak Creek Canyon. This is a longer route than our typical gentler friendly option. We’ll adjust mileage if necessary due to heat. \n“Robles” is Spanish for oaks\, and we’ll see plenty of them on this beautiful\, relaxing hike. After a short street walk to get to the trailhead\, we’ll hike along Los Padres Trail through Sherwood Forest- a wooded patch shaded by huge oak trees. This beautiful bike path will take us along the beach to Torrance Beach\, that little sliver of beach just south of Redondo. DESCRIPTION:Wildwood Park in Thousand Oaks is one of the most versatile local parks there is\, with 27 miles of trails skittering through rocky cliffs\, cacti-filled desert environs\, volcanic rock\, riparian forest\, and a cool\, watery canyon. Highlights of the hike include waterfalls incorporating 40’ Paradise waterfalls along with a long creek\, Indian caves\, volcanic rock cliffs\, and wildflowers throughout. Wildwood’s archetypal western look served as the set for The Rifleman\, Gunsmoke\, and Wagon Train back in the day\, as well as the movie Spartacus. Currently\, it’s very beautiful with an abundance of wildflowers and California poppies in addition to powerful waterfalls. \nIt will start at Moonridge Trail and pass through various trails with bridges\, waterfalls\, crossing streams and tree canopies over approximately 5 miles with about a 1000’ elevation gain/loss. \nDirections:\nFrom the 101 in Thousand Oaks\, turn north on Lynn Road and continue 2.6 miles to Avenida De Los Arboles\, then turn left. Continue for about a mile to the end and turn into the Wildwood parking lot on the left. \nFrom the 118\, travel west to the 23\, exit at Avenida De Los Arboles and turn right. Drive further than you remember having to drive to this trailhead (10 or 15 minutes). DESCRIPTION:Let’s welcome back Mike Wild with this easy hike. It’s a 4.5 mile out-and-back trip from Lynn Road to the Rosewood Trail to Angel Vista. There is an option to add more mileage if this shorty is too short for you. We’ll park at the playfield near Stagecoach Inn and walk from Lynn Road on the lower Rosewood Trail\, to the usual trailhead and then on up the trail. The elevation gain/loss is about 900’. It is a well maintained trail with lots of foliage but relatively little shade. DESCRIPTION:3 miles\, 650′ gain\, Fit Beginner\nEasy option\, 1.4 miles\, 450′ gain\, Fit Beginner \nThe address given\, is not the address of the hike. It is a nearby address that may cause your GPS to drive past the trailhead. \nThose that prefer the Easy Option\, should head UP from the trail head\, waiting when they get to the bench at the top. \nFor the rest of us: Starting from the trailhead parking lot\, we head west on the Woodridge Connector along the sides of houses\, which is the back way. This is a relatively flat section for about 3/4 mile. \nLeft when arriving at the asphalt along Woodridge Loop Trail\, immediate right at the split\, then continue until it comes to an end at a junction. Left and continue to another junction. Make a right\, go about 50′ to another junction\, make a right again\, then 300′ to Autumn Ridge Trail. \nLeft and continue for about a mile. This is a fire road and a steady climb. We continue until 5-points junction. \nMake a sharp left onto Sunrise trail\, then up to the bench. There\, we’ll meet with those that took the easy option\, and stop for a snack and beverage share. \nFor the return\, we’ll turn right and follow Long Canyon Trail down to the parking lot. \nInteresting Notes:\nTake notice of the Eucalyptus tree at the trailhead. \nAlong the left side of the trail during the last 200′ (last because we are doing a counter-clockwise loop)\, you will see: \nWhite Sage – the leaves are very fragrant when pinched\nElderberry  – The blue or purple berries can be made into elderberry wine\, jam\, syrup\, and pies. \nHike\nDistance: 3 mi (easier option\, 1.4 mi)\nGain: 650′ (easier option\, 450′)\nDistribution: A moderate fire-road climb at the middle portion of the hike.\nDifficulty: Fit Beginner.\nShape: Loop\, counter-clockwise.\nPace: 2.0 mph.\nTrail Type: Fire road\, single and double track. We proceed all the way out to Goleta\, via Modoc Road and Hollister Avenue. We ride along the Devereux Slough to Devereux Beach along a dirt path (Elaine approved) and into Isla Vista. After cycling through UCSB we traverse Goleta Beach onto the Obern Bike Trail that takes to Hope Ranch and back to the cars.\nMake sure you bring along a spare inner tube.\nMEETUP LOCATION AND TIME: 9am. DESCRIPTION:The temperature at Ventura beach area will be in the 70’s until 1 pm.\nWe will stroll along the Ventura Pier and Promenade. The promenade is a means to instantly get the get the local flavor\, people watch\, and meander along the beach. It also abuts the fairgrounds and horse stables along the beach\, enroute to a rocky point about a mile between the Ventura Pier and the mouth of the Ventura River\, which is super popular for surfers and bird watchers. We will then continue to walk through the bike path to the Emma Wood Beach trail. SUMMARY:Biking - Temescal to Fishermans Village 20 or 30 miles.
DESCRIPTION:This is a 20 or 30 mile (your choice) beach ride. We’ll start at Temescal Canyon and take the Marvin Braude bike trail south to Fishermans Village\, with a small side trip to potentially see some very large boats. At this point\, anyone wanting to do only 20 miles can relax with some coffee\, ice cream or a snack. The 30 mile group will continue another 5 miles down the bike path and then start back. We’ll likely stop somewhere for a snack and a drink before retuning to our start point. \nThe route is all paved with a total gain of about 167 feet over 20 miles. DESCRIPTION:Easy Intermediate\, 4.5 miles\, 600′ gain\nEasier Option\, 3.5 miles\, 460′ gain \nThis is a unique loop through Wildwood Park that takes us to the famous Lizard Rock. \nThere are several extended inclines and a few short but steep climbs that cause this to be rated on the easy end of the intermediate spectrum. Beginners will still have no problem completing this hike\, but they may be cursing some of the inclines and will not be zooming along on the steps or inclines at high speed. \nThere is nothing wrong with taking it slow because this is a social hike\, not a conditioning hike. We’ll be waiting for folks to catch up at the major junctions. I may put down white powder lines so that nobody gets lost if they fall way behind. \nWe’ll be starting from the tennis court parking lot 4 blocks east of the trail head parking lot and across the road. \nWe’ll cross to the park side of the road through a tunnel\, and turn right on to the Moonridge trail that runs parallel to the road. We’ll follow for about 1/4 mile\, and then go left instead of taking the stem to the right. \nThis will take us to the steps to the trail head parking lot. We’ll regroup. \nThose that want the easier option will cross the parking lot and take main trail (Mesa trail) straight for 1 mile\, turning right at the Lizard Rock trail\, and following it up to Lizard Rock. \nThe rest of us will continue along the Moonridge trail. We’ll follow it around for another 1/2 mile and make a right at the North Teepee Trail fire road and continue for about 200′. \nNext\, we’ll make a left at the Stagecoach Bluff Trail for about 500′\, where it will dead end at a trail of the same name. We’ll make a left and continue for about 1000′ until it dead ends. We make a left\, then the next right to head up to Lizard Rock\, where we’ll share snacks and beverages. \nFinally\, we’ll head along the ridge of Lizard Rock and then down towards the Mesa Trail fire road. We’ll make a left\, and take it all the way back to the main parking lot. Then we’ll cross the lot and take the steps at the far end of the lot down\, and return on the trail we started on\, back to the tunnel and then our cars. \nReturning Early\nFor those that wish to head back instead of hanging around for the snack share\, you are responsible for finding your own way back. DESCRIPTION:This hike will be about 5.4 miles total with 820 ft. of elevation gain. \nWe are starting at the parking lot at the Wahoo’s parking lot. We will take Live Oak Trail. This turns into Serrano Road which will take us to Serrano Cow Trail. At this part of the trail\, we usually see a ton of deer\, so cross your fingers! We will get on Sleepy Hollow Trail. This will take us up to Santiago Ranch Road to Cactus Hill. We will take a short break at Four Corners. Then we will come down Whiting Road. In case that you have never tried to secure a campsite there\, they are REALLY hard to get! About 50 of us got online months ago at 7:00 am and got 10-15 campsites. 🏕️ 🏕️ 🏕️ 🏕️
\nWe are expecting about 53+ attendees for this event. We did similar camping & hiking trip 5 months ago. About 2-3 different hikes each day. And some will rent bikes (or bring them) & also rafting from Curry Village (across the street).
\nThe core of people attending are from my Havasupai 🌊 group (Steven Thomsen\, Tammy\, Brianna\, etc.) We have 6-8 or so additional “people” spots available for others to join us right now.\n
Six people are allowed on a campsite. Maximum of 6 tents ⛺️ per campsite\, they just need to put their tents ON our campsites.\n
Two vehicles are allowed per campsite. So carpooling is encouraged. Overflow vehicles will need to park across the street at Curry Village\, where some will take showers\, rent bicycles or rafting\, get pizza\, coffee\, etc.\n
Carpoolers will have priority to park at the campsites. At Yosemite Valley\, there are bears 🐻 🐻 So you should not be leaving ANYTHING in vehicles anyway. It should not be an inconvenience to park at Curry Village\, as the overflow parking across the street.\n
Everyone will initially be placed on the waitlist. Once you have been approved & paid\, you will be moved to the “going” list. Then\, everyone has the visibility of who is actually going from this group and the available spots that are left yet.\n
Each person committing & attending will be expected to pay a total of $36 in advance in total\, which includes all 3 nights. We don’t want to have people RSVP and not attend\, and others not be able to go!

There will not be any refunds. It’s only $36 total for 3 nights ($12/night) to reserve a spot and go! And if you don’t end up going\, you have already taken someone’s spot that wanted to go!\n
We will have a poluck dinner together every evening\, the first night after driving there\, and after we get back from hiking each day. So bring some food to eat and share for that. Also\, a little breakfast food to eat and share if you eat breakfast.

A campfire🔥 is normally allowed there. So please bring at least ONE bundle of wood or purchase it there for EACH person attending. We will be there for 3 lovely nights!
