SUMMARY:Corriganville the Back Way Double Loop Lollipop
DESCRIPTION:4 miles\, 700′ gain\, easy-intermediate\nEasy option: 2.5 miles\, 500′ gain \nParking on the south side of the CA-118 at the Rocky Peak exit. We’ll walk west along the Santa Susana Pass Rd. for about 500 feet\, and directly across from Lilac Ln\, we’ll enter a trail. We’ll move along a relatively flat section for 1/2 mile\, turn right\, and make a gradual climb until just before the wildlife tunnel. \nWe turn left and take a set of switchbacks down into Corriganville. We’ll now be in front of a picnic pavilion. \nEasy Option: Wait at the pavilion for about 35 minutes. \nThe rest of the group will hike a 1.5 mile loop\, returning to this same place. We’ll turn right and loop through the park. We’ll pass an outdoor amphitheater\, then make a mild climb to the top of a hill. \nNext\, we’ll turn right at the top\, zig-zag down\, and then make a left to the wide center trail that leads up through the park to its only parking lot. We won’t cross to the lot yet. \nWe’ll follow the trail as it bends to the right until it eventually bends back left and heads into the parking area. We’ll then walk along the side of the lot and head back to the picnic pavilion\, where we’ll have a social event. \nAfter the event\, we’ll circle around the front of the pavilion and walk along railroad tracks for 200 yards towards the park lot. Behind a couple small shacks\, we’ll turn left and cross the tracks\, then head onto a trail and take this all the way back to Santa Susana Pass Rd. and then our cars. \nIt is posted that the park closes at sunset\, so for this hike\, we’ll start heading back before dark. \nInteresting Notes\nHere are a couple plants you are sure to see on this hike: \nCalifornia Sagebrush\nAromatic when crushed. AKA\, common sage\, coastal sage. Sunflower family. Cowboys used to ride through it and brush up against the pine-shaped leaves\, coming home with the smell on their clothes and giving rise to the nickname “Cowboy Cologne.” Not a true sage. Can be used as a cooking spice and can be made into a tea. Tear off some needles by running your hand up the stalk and smell the aroma. \nPurple Sage\nGrey-green leaves. Aromatic when crushed. Purple flowers. Aka\, Tobacco Sage\, with mild hallucinogenic properties when smoked. Can be used as a spice or made into a tea. Tea has medicinal affects: Antiviral\, gargle for sore throats\, reduce hay fever symptoms and other drying actions. In the last summer\, fall\, and winter months\, the flowers will have turned brown and the leaves we take on a greyer color. \nDirections\nRocky Peak Exit\, South Side of CA-118\nSimi Valley\, CA 93065\n34.267447\, -118.634809 \nFrom the 118\nExit 32 Rocky Peak Rd.\nPark on south side of the freeway along Santa Susanna Pass Rd. \nFrom the 101 @ CA-23\nNorth CA-23 for 8.4 miles.\nEast I-118 for 14 miles.\nExit 32 Rocky Peak Rd. \nPark on south of the freeway along Santa Susanna Pass Rd. \nThe Hike\nDistance: 4 mi.\, easy option 2.5 mi.\nElevation Gain: 700′\, easy option 500′.\nDifficulty: Easy Intermediate\, easy option – Fit Beginner\nPace: 2.0 mph\nDogs: Yes.\nRestrooms: Yes\, at the picnic pavilion.\nDrinking Fountains: Yes\nParking: Free\, south side of CA-118\nTrail: Single Track\, Double Track\, and fire road.\nPurpose: Social \nWhat to Bring:\n1-2 liters of water.\nSnacks and/or beverages to share\nHiking shoes preferred\, but athletic shoes will be OK.\nFlashlight or headlamp. SUMMARY:Pratt Trail To Nordhoff Ridge or Peak
DESCRIPTION:Ready to earn those mountain views? The Pratt Trail is Ojai’s classic “no pain\, no gain” adventure—a 9.7-mile out-and-back beast that’ll have you climbing 3\,103 feet through Los Padres National Forest. When we’re at Nordhoff Ridge\, those who want to can hike the extra .75 miles/388 feet gain to the peak (details below). Plan on 5-6 hours of quality time with switchbacks! \nStarting just north of downtown Ojai\, you’ll begin easy enough\, paralleling a creek and enjoying some shade. But don’t get too comfortable. The first hour or two will lull you into thinking “this isn’t that hard\,” then reality kicks in with a steady climb. Rockslides have left their mark in spots so\, be sure to wear actual hiking shoes\, not your cute flats! \nWhat makes it worth the sweat? Jaw-dropping views of the Topatopa Mountains and Ojai Valley that just keep getting better with elevation. You’ll pass through diverse terrain—chaparral\, wildflower meadows\, maybe even spot some wildlife. Water flows in cooler months\, and there’s a eucalyptus grove to break things up. \nDogs are welcome (can be off leash in areas)\, and the trail is open year-round. Just know this is a solid workout that’ll leave you wonderfully tired and Instagram-ready! \nDETAILS: \n\nHike leader volunteer(s): Tim R.\nMeet: Pratt Trailhead\, Ojai\, CA at 7:45 am\, departure at 8:00 am sharp (Feb 14).\nDistance: Approximately 9.7/11.4 miles.\nElevation gain: Approximately 3\,103/3.491 feet.\nTime: Approximately 5.0/6.0 hours hiking including a snack break.\nConditioning: You need to be in generally good physical condition.\nDogs: Dogs are allowed.\nRestrooms: There are bathrooms at the trailhead.\nAdventure Pass: Not Required.\n\nIMPORTANT NOTES: We’ll hike at a brisk pace and ask everyone to stay with the group for a friendly and safe outing. There may be stream crossings\, exposures\, bugs or other warnings. As always\, people may slip and fall\, encounter poison oak\, ticks\, snakes\, etc. on this hike. This event may be cancelled due to inclement weather before or at the start of the hike. Check the weather report and plan accordingly. \nESSENTIAL GEAR: Hiking boots and poles. Clothing layers are recommended. Snacks and 3+ liters of water and electrolytes or salt tablets. Hat and sunscreen. \nThe Ten Essentials of Hiking (link) \nTHIS HIKE RANKING: Level 4/5\, Intermediate/Advanced (see chart below).\nPlease only sign up to attend hikes that are consistent with your ability. Based on your hiking during the last 90 days\, how would you score on the CHC Hike rating scale of one to five assuming a brisk pace? \nCHC HIKE RANKING SCALE:\n1. Beginner: 1-3 miles\, less than 500 feet elevation gain.\n2. Beginner/Intermediate: 1-7 miles\, less than 700 feet elevation gain.\n3. Intermediate: 5-10 miles\, 1000-2000 feet elevation gain.\n4. Intermediate/Advanced: 7-12 miles\, up to 3000 feet elevation gain.\n5. SUMMARY:Hike at Caspers Wilderness Park - Bell Canyon + Oso Trail
DESCRIPTION:The hike I am planning is around 6.3 miles with about 700 ft. of elevation gain. It starts at the very end of the paved road\, the long gray strip that can be seen on the map. \nWe will begin at the Bell Canyon Trail head. We will continue onto that and then take it to the Cougar Pass trail. We will go up that and make a left on Oso Trail. Once that ends\, we will come back down Bell Canyon Trail until we hit Star Ridge Trail. We will take this to West Ridge Trail and go left. This will take us to a single track trail\, Dick Loskorn Trail. This hits Nature Loops Trail and this will take us back to the beginning. \nThis is a beautiful hike with expansive views. It is a nice and remote hike\, so you are really out there in the wilderness. \nIf you have any questions regarding the park or the trails we will be on\, please let me know! \nHere is a link to the park map: http://ocparks.com/civicax/filebank/blobdload.aspx?BlobID=8164 \nThe address is: 33401 Ortega Hwy. San Juan Capistrano\, CA 92675 \nDogs are not allowed at this park. \nParking is $5\, unless you have an OC Parks Annual Permit. If you hike a lot\, it’s totally worth it: http://ocparks.com/about/fees/pass You can buy the pass at the park.

SUMMARY:Hail To The Trail: Presidents' Day Hike at the Old Reagan Ranch
DESCRIPTION:An HWD Classic! \nThis hike is sponsored by Amazon – https://amzn.to/2GnCP0a \nDuring the 1950s\, when Ronald Reagan hosted TV’s “Death Valley Days\,” he wanted a more rural retreat than his home in Pacific Palisades. So he bought a 305-acre ranch in the hills of Malibu as a place to raise thoroughbred horses and dubbed it “Yearling Row.” \nReagan Ranch (1957-1967)\, now part of Malibu Creek State Park\, is a delight for hikers\, who can enjoy the ranch’s rolling meadow land and grand old oaks. Trails loop through the Reagan Ranch and connect with the main part of the state park. We’ll use a combination of trails–Yearling\, Deer Leg\, Lookout\, Crags Road and Cage Canyon–to explore Reagan Country and the heart of the park\, including Century Lake. \nHike will be about 5.5 miles with 1\,000 feet total ascent and is rated MEDIUM. See the HWD Hike Ratings Guide – \nDIRECTIONS \nThe Old Reagan Ranch parking lot is on the Southeast corner of Cornell Rd and Mullholland Hwy \nIMPORTANT \nTrail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need. \nTrail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly. \nThe Organizers and members in this group are not professional leaders\, guides\, or mountaineers. The function of the member or organizer is only to organize the trip. Each person who shows up for a trip/meetup (and their guest or guests) is responsible for his or her own safety. SUMMARY:Biking - Temescal to Fishermans Village 20 or 30 miles.
DESCRIPTION:This is a 20 or 30 mile (your choice) beach ride. We’ll start at Temescal Canyon and take the Marvin Braude bike trail south to Fishermans Village\, with a small side trip to potentially see some very large boats. At this point\, anyone wanting to do only 20 miles can relax with some coffee\, ice cream or a snack. The 30 mile group will continue another 5 miles down the bike path and then start back. We’ll likely stop somewhere for a snack and a drink before retuning to our start point. \nThe route is all paved with a total gain of about 167 feet over 20 miles. So\, it’s about as flat as a trail can be. \nThe only caveat to this one is that there always seems to be headwinds coming out of the Northwest during the last few miles. \nBring Along: \n\nMake sure you bring along a spare inner tube and have tires inflated for road riding.\n\nMEETUP LOCATION (<- Click) Well be at the small pavilion where Temescal Canyon intersects the bike path. \nPARKING FEE: There is paid parking at Temescal and PCH and you can also park on Temescal Canyon for free and ride down to the starting point. \nRESTROOMS: YES \nDURATION: 4 HOURS \nDISTANCE: 20 or 30 miles – you choose. \nROUTE: (<-click to see it)\nRide with GPS route \nELEVATION GAIN: 167′ \nPACE: 11-13 mph \nTERRAIN: 20/30 miles of bike path and paved roads. \nMY CELL# IS: 818-307-6460 \nPLEASE make sure your bike is in working order before attending. \nDISCLAIMER & SAFETY NOTICE – Group Bike Ride\nBy participating in this ride—or any event organized by the “E Biking LA County and Beyond Meetup Group” —YOU (all riders\, event attendees) voluntarily assume all risks associated with outdoor activity\, including but not limited to injury\, illness\, equipment failure\, road hazards\, weather and possible vehicle/bike — bike/bike — accidents and/or death.\nYou agree to release the leaders\, the organizer\, from any and all liability\, claims\, or demands arising from participation.\nThe leaders for the “E Biking LA County and Beyond Meetup Group” are not a certified outdoor\, fitness or biking guide\, and you are solely responsible for your personal safety and preparedness.

SUMMARY:Potrero – All paved – Easy Intermediate\, post-rain hike
DESCRIPTION:5.75 miles\, 700′ gain. Easy Intermediate.\nDo not park on Potrero else risk getting a ticket. You need a permit to park on this street. Side streets such as Pinehill or Greenwood are good to park. \nThis hike is a great trail when it might be muddy because almost the entire hike is on an asphalt path through a huge state park (> 20 sq miles). It’s also a good option when it’s very hot out\, because this is one of the cooler areas where we hike\, half shaded\, and most of the incline is on the return. \nSince the elevation gain is low and the route is paved\, we’ll be likely hiking a little faster than typical. It’s a little more than 8 miles to go all the way to the ocean. \nAt the 2.9 mile mark\, we’ll find a picnic table 350′ off to the right side\, where we’ll stop and have a social event for about an hour before heading back the way we came. There are no turns on this hike\, so as long as you stay on the asphalt path\, you really can’t get lost. \nDirections\n4161 Potrero Rd.\nThousand Oaks\, CA 91320\n34.156636\, -118.962989 \nNote that when turning left at the dead end to continue on Potrero Rd.\, the sign at the intersection will say S. Reino. It is that name if you go right. But we go to the left\, so it is a continuation of Potrero Rd. \nFrom the west: 101-S\, Exit 48B Wendy Dr.\, turn right.\nFrom the east: 101-N\, Exit 47C Wendy Dr.\, turn left.\nSouth on Wendy Dr. until it deadends at Potrero Rd.\nRight on Potrero Rd. for 0.5 miles.\nLeft to stay on Potrero Rd. SUMMARY:Serra Cross Park at Grant Park ~ Gentler Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: Later time (10:00 AM) and different day (Friday) \nSince we have been inside for too long\, I decided to\npost a hike for tomorrow\, Friday 2/20. Bring money or credit card\, so we can stop on the pier for lunch. \nThis hike will start at the Museum of Ventura County parking lot. We will then cross Main Street and take the stairs up to Poli Street where we can connect to Brakey Road (This will be safer than Ferro as no cars are allowed) and hike up to the top of the hill to the Sierra Cross at Grant Park. From there we will come down Summit Drive to N Kalorama Street\, which will take us to E Front Street and across the bridge to the beach\, where we will connect to the pier. After lunch we’ll take the Ventura Promenade to Figueroa St. and back to our cars. \nhttps://visitventuraca.com/business/serra-cross-park-at-grant-park/ \nIt’s about 5-6 miles with approximately 400’ elevation gain/loss \nDirections:\nFrom 101 northbound\, exit on California St. turning left off the freeway. Stay in the middle lane to cross E Thompson and turn left onto Santa Clara St. You will then cross S Oak Street\, S Palm Street\, and Figueroa St. At the next street (Junipero St.\, which ends at Santa Clara Street) you’ll turn into the public parking lot. \nPlease review the guidelines (link to the guidelines) to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on completing the entire hike at a moderate pace.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Waterfalls\, Wildwood & Well-Placed Bathrooms: The Paradise Falls Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Paradise Falls is Thousand Oaks’s version of Towsley Canyon—with similar canyon scenery\, a rewarding waterfall destination\, and the bonus of actual restroom facilities. Located in Wildwood Park\, we will explore the scenic route to the falls before climbing up to Wildwood Mesa for sweeping canyon views and a great look toward Mount Clef Ridge. Along the way\, we’ll cover between 5.3 and 6.5 miles\, gaining roughly 900–1\,000 feet of elevation depending on conditions and route choice. Expect some rugged\, uneven sections\, possible encounters with mountain bikers\, and more company near the falls—especially on weekends. Bridges typically span the creek outside of rainy season\, and while the water isn’t suitable for splashing around\, the well-placed facilities nearby make this a comfortable and scenic canyon adventure. \nThis is a moderate hike with some elevation. Please make sure to bring water and snacks\, sunblock\, and good shoes.

SUMMARY:Replacement Hike: Mentryville – Pico Canyon Trail
DESCRIPTION:DESCRIPTION:\nSaturday\, February 21\, 2026\nSince our planned hike to Paradise Falls was cancelled due to trail closures\, we’re pivoting to a fantastic local alternative: \nMentryville: Pico Canyon Trail\nWe’ll start from Mentryville\, a historic Santa Clarita Valley site located at the base of Pico Canyon’s chaparral-covered slopes. Mentryville was an 1880s oil boom town built around its oil well\, Pico No. 4. Named for Charles Mentry\, several historic buildings still stand today\, including a grand thirteen-room mansion\, a one-room schoolhouse\, and a barn. Both Mentryville and Pico No. 4 are registered California State Historical Landmarks.\nThe hike begins on an asphalt road\, transitions to a fire road\, and eventually narrows to single-track trail. Pico Canyon Trail is one of our local gems — in just a short distance\, you’ll feel miles away from the hustle and bustle and immersed in wide-open backcountry with beautiful canyon views. \nDETAILS: \n\nMeet: Mentryville Parking lot where Pico Canyon Road ends at 8:15am\, departure at 8:30 am sharp (Feb 21).\nDistance: Approximately 6.8 miles.\nElevation gain: Approximately 1\,272 feet.\nTime: Approximately 3.5 hours hiking including one snack break (brisk pace).\nConditioning: You need to be in generally good physical condition (this is not a beginner hike).\nDogs: Must be on leash.\nRestrooms – Yes at the park.\nAdventure Pass: Not required.\n\nIMPORTANT NOTES: We’ll hike at a brisk pace and ask everyone to stay with the group for a friendly and safe outing. Hiking may be hazardous due to uneven footing\, stream crossings\, exposures\, snakes\, bugs\, poison oak\, etc. Please be aware of your abilities and their limits. You are responsible for your own safety and well-being. This event may be cancelled due to any inclement weather or other conditions. You can check the weather and other conditions on the AllTrails GPS Trail Map link below. \nESSENTIAL GEAR: Hiking boots and poles. Clothing layers are recommended. Snacks and 2+ liters of water and electrolytes or salt tablets. Hat and sunscreen. \nThe Ten Essentials of Hiking (link) \nTHIS HIKE RANKING: Level 3\, Intermediate (see chart below).\nPlease only sign up to attend hikes that are consistent with your ability. Advanced: 10-17 miles\, 3000 feet or more elevation gain. \nTRAILHEAD LOCATION:\nMentryville: 27201 Pico Canyon Road\, Newhall\, CA\nThere is parking for a $5 fee. There is also limited “no fee” parking outside the park which adds approximately a quarter mile (each way) to the hike. \nDriving Directions (link) \nNAVIGATION: We highly recommend the AllTrails app be installed on your cell phones and/or you print a copy of the trail map so you can personally navigate the trail if you need to. \nGPS Trail Map (link) \nThe Community Hiking Club is a Non-Profit 501C3 organization. SUMMARY:Belated Presidents' Day Hike at the Old Reagan Ranch
DESCRIPTION:An HWD Classic! \nThis hike is sponsored by Amazon https://amzn.to/2GnCP0a \nDuring the 1950s\, when Ronald Reagan hosted TV’s “Death Valley Days\,” he wanted a more rural retreat than his home in Pacific Palisades. By attending a hike\, or any other event organized by this group\, you are acknowledging that you and any guests that you bring are aware of the risks\, dangers and hazards associated with the activity and freely accept and fully assume all such risks\, dangers and hazards\, and further agree to release and discharge the Organizers\, Members of the Hiking With Dean Meetup Group from and against any and all liability arising from your participation in the group activities per the ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND LIABILITY WAIVER – https://www.meetup.com/localhikers/pages/322667/Liability_Waiver/

SUMMARY:Los Padres - Easy Intermediate (start 3:30pm)
DESCRIPTION:3.5 miles\, 600′ gain\, Easy Intermediate\nEasy Option: 2.4 miles\, 285′ gain\, Fit Beginner \nWe enter the Los Padres trail through a spooky oak covered section\, then move through until we come to a dead end. We’ll turn right\, and continue climbing up. We’ll come to another junction\, where we’ll turn right onto the Los Robles trail. \nAfter 500 feet\, we’ll come to a split off to the right. We’ll take this split and continue along the Vista Loop until we come to a bench. Then we’ll start heading down\, and when we come to the “Giants Picnic Table”\, which I call that because its parts are super thick. \nWe’ll stop for a social event and share snacks and drinks for 30-60 minutes\, before continuing down and around for our return. \nEasy Option: In the reverse direction as the rest of the group\, go 350′ to the end of Los Padres Dr.\, left on S. Moorpark Rd. for 1000′. Enter the trail and follow it for about a mile. It will curve left and you will arrive at the social event. \nHike Distance: 3.5 miles\, easy option 2.4 miles.\nGain: 600′\, each option 285′.\nDistribution: Most of the incline well distributed in the first half.\nDifficulty: Easy Intermediate.\nShape: Loop.\nPace: approx. 2.0 mph.\nTrail Type: Fire Road\, Single-Track\, and Double-Track.\nTrail Variations:\nSeveral extended inclines of 1000 steps.\nSeveral steep sections of 300 steps\, but no hands required.\nDuration: 3.5 hours\nDogs: Yes.\nRestrooms: No\nDrinking Fountains: No.\nParking: Free along street. \nWhat to bring: 1 liter of water for every 3 miles.\nHiking shoes/boots\nFlashlight or headlamp.\nSunscreen and/or hat as needed.\nSnacks and/or beverages to share \nHosting \nRoute: The host knows the route. A pic of the route has been posted as a link on this line. \nNavigation: Host memory\, enhanced by GPS navigation as needed. \nHike type: Social.\nWe won’t be hiking at a fast pace because this is a social hike\, not a conditioning hike. There is nothing wrong with stopping\, even if it means every 50 steps. See “How hard is this hike” in the discussion section (LINK). \nStops:\nThe host may designate stopping points to let others catch up. This hike will include an extended stop for a snack and beverage share at the half way point. We will stop at junctions to make sure everybody makes any turns or chooses the correct direction at splits\, else something will be used to mark the direction\, usually a large arrow made of baking soda or sticks. There may not always be a sweeper designated to be the last hiker. \nInteresting Notes\nThese are a couple plants you are likely to see on this hike: \nYucca\nWhite flowers on stalk. Stalk is often missing\, leaving only the spires from which it grows. Stalks are very strong and light\, so they make good walking sticks. Needles on end of spires. Chopped up root can be uses as shampoo or soap. Roasted root can be eaten like a potato. Illegal to remove live stick in CA. \nPronounced with short u. Dried leaves make good tinder. To eat root\, remove skin and core\, boil 15 minutes. Then fry or bake. Flowers are mildly sweet. Adam says they taste like radishes. The fruit is also edible\, but bitter if not ripe. To access fibers: Soak for a month in water\, or\, lightly pound leaves with rock or club\, or\, scrape off skin. Roll between hands\, then pull and separate fibers. Weave into cordage. \nWild Cucumber\nToxic. Boil fruit in water to make spikes easy to remove. Inside is a natural luffa. Tubars (thickened part of a stem\, usually underground\, like the potato) can be crushed and thrown into water to immobilize fish. \nAlmost the entire plant is poisonous. The prickly “cucumbers” consist not of fleshy fruit\, but of two seed chambers containing lacy netting. \nDirections\nLos Padres Trailhead\n15 Los Padres Drive\nThousand Oaks\, CA\, 91361 \nFrom I-101\nWest of CA-23\, I-101\, exit S. Moorpark Rd.\nSouth on Moorpark Rd. north for 1000 ft.\nLeft on Los Padres Dr.\nAfter 200 ft\, trailhead on the right.\nPark on the street. \nFAQ\nHiking Plus Page Links\nDisclaimer / Release of Liability

SUMMARY:8 mile ~ Encinal Canyon to Top of the World ~ Intermediate Hike
DESCRIPTION:Encinal Canyon is named for encina\, the Spanish word for the holm oak\, a lovely Mediterranean tree with holly characteristics. Holm oaks are one of the main trees used to establish truffle orchards\, but we’ll be nosing around the canyon strictly for its beauty. \nThe trail from Encinal is a smooth\, firm\, and well-traveled single track\, swooping and winding with a constant\, gentle slope. We’ll have fabulous views of the coast for much of the way. Close to the top\, we’ll take on the slightly steeper Etz Meloy Motorway\, then the last tenth of a mile is up a seldom-used trail to the isolated peak\, where we’ll both lose and catch our breath with a 360-degree view. \nFrom our perch above it all we’ll see Sandstone Peak to the west\, Simi Valley to the north\, Ladyface and Mt Baldy to the east and the Channel Islands to the south and west. \nThis is a 8 mile out and back hike\, with about 1200′ of elevation gain. \nNOTE: Please review the guidelines to participate in our hikes. Here are some highlights and a link to the guidelines:\nhttps://www.meetup.com/The-Weekday-Trailblazers/about/\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours:\nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\nPlan on completing the entire hike at an intermediate pace or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo dogs allowed. \nDirections: \nThe parking area is off the north side of Encinal Canyon Road\, almost directly across the street from the Camp 13 fire station & Rattle Snake Road. Park in the large dirt lot\, which is free. \nFrom the 101 Freeway\, turn south on Kanan Rd. Continue 6.2 miles\, then turn right onto Mulholland Hwy. After 0.9 miles\, veer left onto Encinal Canyon Rd. Drive 2.4 miles to the parking area\, on the right. \nFrom the Pacific Coast Highway – From the PCH\, turn up Encinal Canyon Road. Drive 5 miles\, then turn right onto Encinal Cyn Rd. Continue 1.1 miles to the parking area\, on the left. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Lizard Rock Loop - Easy Intermediate with easier option
DESCRIPTION:Easy Intermediate\, 4.5 miles\, 600′ gain\nEasier Option\, 3.5 miles\, 460′ gain \nThis is a unique loop through Wildwood Park that takes us to the famous Lizard Rock. \nThere are several extended inclines and a few short but steep climbs that cause this to be rated on the easy end of the intermediate spectrum. Beginners will still have no problem completing this hike\, but they may be cursing some of the inclines and will not be zooming along on the steps or inclines at high speed. \nThere is nothing wrong with taking it slow because this is a social hike\, not a conditioning hike. We’ll be waiting for folks to catch up at the major junctions. I may put down white powder lines so that nobody gets lost if they fall way behind. \nWe’ll be starting from the tennis court parking lot 4 blocks east of the trail head parking lot and across the road. \nWe’ll cross to the park side of the road through a tunnel and turn right on to the Moonridge trail that runs parallel to the road. We’ll follow for about 1/4 mile\, and then go left instead of taking the stem to the right. \nThis will take us to the steps to the trail head parking lot. We’ll regroup. \nThose that want the easier option will cross the parking lot and take main trail (Mesa trail) straight for 1 mile\, turning right at the Lizard Rock trail\, and following it up to Lizard Rock. \nThe rest of us will continue along the Moonridge trail. We’ll follow it around for another 1/2 mile and make a right at the North Teepee Trail fire road and continue for about 200′. \nNext\, we’ll make a left at the Stagecoach Bluff Trail for about 500′\, where it will dead end at a trail of the same name. We’ll make a left and continue for about 1000′ until it dead ends. We make a left\, then the next right to head up to Lizard Rock\, where we’ll share snacks and beverages. \nFinally\, we’ll head along the ridge of Lizard Rock and then down towards the Mesa Trail fire road. We’ll make a left\, and take it all the way back to the main parking lot. Then we’ll cross the lot and take the steps at the far end of the lot down\, and return on the trail we started on\, back to the tunnel and then our cars. \nReturning Early\nFor those that wish to head back instead of hanging around for the snack share\, you are responsible for finding your own way back. Please follow the posted route and map. \nDirections\nWildwood Park\n635 W Avenida De Los Arboles\nThousand Oaks\, CA 91360 \nFrom the 118:\nCA-118 west to CA-23.\nContinue south on CA-23 to exit 15 for 4.8 miles\, Avenida de los Arboles\nTurn right (west) on Avenida de los Arboles for 3.3 miles until 4 blocks before it ends.
