SUMMARY:DAGGER FLAT TRAIL RECONSTRUCTION - Volunteer Opportunity
DESCRIPTION:** THIS IS NOT A HIKE *****\n* RAIN\, SNOW OR EXCESS HEAT AT WORK SITE WILL CANCEL EVENT ** \nJoin Dianne for some light trail clean up of the DAGGER FLAT TRAIL – No experience required! \nTHIS IS NOT A HIKE\, but you will be among some of the most spectacular scenery near SCV. The trail is still there! Help Dianne bring it back from being a bit overgrown after the last fire. \nAt this time we are restoring the top portion of the trail just before the stairs. We will show you how to make/ maintain a trail. Get that special feeling of accomplishment as you work with other volunteers to complete manageable small outdoor projects (Trimming\, trail brushing and stashing trimmings). No heavy lifting etc. at this time. Work for a few hours\, we will leave to come back early if the weather doesn’t co-operate. Dianne will bring all the tools needed. \nPLEASE only RSVP “Yes” if you can make it. \nMeet At:\nGoogle Latitude/Longitude coordinates 34.360824\, -118.391941. We meet at Sand Canyon Road and 3N17 white gate. \nDirections to Meeting Spot (White Gate for 3N17):\nTake the I-5 to the SR-14 North. Exit at Sand Canyon\, turn right (South/East). Go all the way past all the houses\, Placerita Canyon etc.\, going straight. Enter the Angeles National Forest and continue up!up!up! Sand Canyon Road until you see a large heart memorial at a bad corner on the right side. Shortly after this you will see a small brown sign “Santa Clara Divide Road” on the right side. Just past the sign\, turn left onto the road on the left side. You will see a white gate. Dianne will meet you here\, and you will caravan to the trail head. \nMeeting Time:\nWe will meet at 7:45AM and leave for the trail head no later than 8:00AM SHARP. The trail head is 4 miles along Forest Road 3N17. Please do not be late as the gate will be locked after we leave the meeting spot. \nBring:\nBoots\, plenty of WATER\, electrolytes\, and snacks\, a sack lunch. TP (there are no bathrooms)\, strong garden GLOVES (suede leather type recommended). If it is hot\, consider bringing sunscreen\, a cooling towel\, sun hat\, bandana. Bring a mask if you cannot maintain social distancing. (A mask will also keep dust off of your face while working) \nDo Not Bring:\nDogs\, as they get bored. Also\, it would not be safe to bring young children (due to sharp tools and trail is narrow). Leave your garden tools at home\, as we could damage them or lose them\, and Dianne will have all of the appropriate tools for trail work. \nThank you for helping bring back this trail\, so we can all enjoy it. \nLeader: Dianne

SUMMARY:Palo Comado Lollipop - Easy Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:4.6 miles\, 900′ gain\, easy-intermediate \nThis route takes us through a beautiful canyon via a counter-clockwise lollipop. We’ll turn right (east) onto the Dead Cow Trail for 0.8 miles\, where we’ll come to an overlook on the left. \nThere\, we’ll stop for a snack and beverage share. Then we’ll continue down the Sheep Corral trail for about 700′\, turning left back onto the Palo Comado trail. This hike will include an extended stop for a snack and beverage share at the half way point. We will stop at junctions to make sure everybody makes any turns or chooses the correct direction at splits\, else something will be used to mark the direction\, usually a large arrow made of baking soda or some sticks. There may not always be a sweeper designated to be the last hiker. \nEach hiker is responsible for knowing their capability\, only attending events where they are able to sustain the described pace\, for keeping up with the group sufficiently enough to make the turns and not get left behind\, and for making sure the host is notified if they are going to split from the group. \nGroup separation:\nSometimes hikers wish to move significantly ahead and not wait at designated stopping points. Please let the host know.
