SUMMARY:Santa Rosa Trail Loop through Box Canyon (Fast Paced)
DESCRIPTION:Haven’t done this hike in over a year. Hoping the marshy area has dried up since we have had no rain in a while. \nPlease read these restrictions before signing up. \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list\nUnregistered or waitlisted will be turned away\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\nNo dogs allowed on the hike\n\nTime to check out the Santa Rosa Trail to view some cool properties including the train collector yard accessible through Wildwood Park in Thousand Oaks. Wildwood is one of the most versatile local parks there is\, with 27 miles of trails skittering through rocky cliffs\, cacti-filled desert environs\, volcanic rock\, riparian forest\, and a cool\, watery canyon. Wildwood’s archetypal western look served as the set for The Rifleman\, Gunsmoke\, and Wagon Train back in the day\, as well as the movie Spartacus. This hike takes us up the Santa Rosa Trail to Mount Clef Ridge\, providing sweeping views of the park\, the Santa Rosa Valley. \nhttp://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/9/1/5/2/600_318817202.jpeg \nDescending into the valley\, we’ll pass the famed train yard\, as well as other quirky estates. \nhttp://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/d/d/e/c/600_99896812.jpeg \nWe will take the Box Canyon Trail and the Mesa Trail back and if there’s time hit Lizard rock before heading back to the parking lot. Our route will be approximately 6 1/2 miles and 1000 +’ of elevation gain. Much of the hike is exposed- dress appropriately\, and make sure you have water or beverage of choice. Bring your cellphone\, a headlamp or flash light\, any medications you may need\, and a rainjacket if the weather looks iffy. \nhttp://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/c/a/0/600_451023232.jpeg \nhttp://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/d/4/1/600_451023393.jpeg \nDirections: \nFrom the 101 in Thousand Oaks\, turn north on Lynn Road and continue 2.6 miles to Avenida De Los Arboles\, then turn left. Continue for about a mile to the end and turn into the Wildwood parking lot on the left. \nFrom the 118\, travel west to the 23\, exit at Avenida De Los Arboles and turn right. Drive further than you remember having to drive to this trailhead (10 or 15 minutes). Turn left into the parking lot when the road ends. \nWatch for cross traffic coming from the right when you turn into the parking lot- they don’t have to stop. Parking is ample and free. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals. \nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. By participating in any posted event\, you are taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. SUMMARY:Los Robles trailhead\, walking down to Las Padres and up and around
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: \nThis will be a gentler hike for Thursday. We will go slower and with less elevation gain and less miles. If anyone wants to add more miles\, and someone knows the route\, we can take the loop up to the Greenmeadow Parking lot and then back to Moorhead. \nWe will start in the parking lot at the end of Moorpark and walk down the street to the Las Padres trail. From there we will loop around and come back to the Moorpark trailhead via the Los Robles trail (or onto Greenmeadow but someone needs to know the route\, because I am not sure of it). This should be around 4.5 miles with maybe 800 feet elevation gain. \n“Robles” is Spanish for oaks\, and we’ll see plenty of them on this beautiful hike. \nTrailhead Directions: From the 101 in Thousand Oaks\, turn south on Moorpark Road. Go to the end of Moorpark but don’t turn down Greenmeadow\, just park at the end of Moorpark. \nPlease review the guidelines to participate in our hikes. Here are some highlights and a link to the guidelines: \nhttps://www.meetup.com/The-Weekday-Trailblazers/about/ \nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list \nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike \nNo dogs \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Conejo Mountain's Majesty - 5 mile\, 1\,100' - Gentler\, Not Beginner
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a hike to the very tippy-top of Conejo Mountain. This 5.0-mile hike has a total elevation gain and loss of 1\,100 feet (at least\, according to GaiaGPS). Because of the distance\, I’m classifying it as a Gentler\, but there are some steep spots for which trekking poles may be advisable. Almost 1\,100′ of elevation gain and loss are at the upper edge of a Gentler hike for us\, too\, so there is an option to skip some of the elevation at the cost of some distance. \nWhen I hiked this on 8/4/24\, there were some spots of loose rock\, and some trail erosion in a flat area near the bottom. \nWe will park at the Powerline trailhead on Via Ricardo in Newbury Park’s Dos Vientos neighborhood. We’ll climb the Powerline Trail to the “teardrop”\, then scale the fairly steep goat trail to the meadow at the top of Conejo Mountain\, where we’ll make our way west to the rocky peak. As this implies\, the climb from the teardrop to the meadow is pretty steep\, so we’ll take our time there. \nFor those who don’t relish heights\, this is a good place to turn around and retrace your steps down. \nHowever\, once at the top\, we’ll have a truly spectacular view of Boney Mountain\, the Oxnard Plain\, the Channel Islands\, and if it’s really clear\, all the way east to Mt. Baldy and the eastern San Gabriels. \nWe’ll descend the (steep\, but not quite so steep) route back down to the upper Powerline Trail\, and retrace our steps to the cars. \nOptional Brunch / Lunch afterwards at Three Amigos nearby in the Trader Joe’s complex in Newbury Park at Borchard & Reino. \nDIRECTIONS\nExit 101 at Borchard\, and drive southwest past Wendy\, Reino\, and up and over the pass into the Dos Vientos subdivision. Turn right at the very first right-hand turn after the pass\, onto Via Ricardo. Park in the vicinity of the trailhead / crosswalk. If you’d like to set your nav system to a street address\, 147 Via Ricardo is the closest residence. \nIf you need a restroom stop before the hike\, there are open restrooms at Dos Vientos Community Park\, just off Borchard\, just beyond Via Ricardo. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY\nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY:\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience. You agree that you can navigate back to your transportation by yourself\, and agree to do so if you fall behind and lose track of the main body of hikers. \nBy now you should know the guidelines to participate in our morning hikes. Please review them before you sign up for the hike. And just in case\, here are some highlights: \nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\nUnregistered or waitlisted will be turned away\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\nPlan on completing the entire hike or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo dogs on this hike\nBring ample hydration and electrolytes\nAll participants must be 18 or older\, or accompanied by a responsible adult

SUMMARY:Wendy Lollipop
DESCRIPTION:4.6 miles\, 1000′ gain\, Easy Intermediate\nEasier Option – 2.7 miles\, 320′ gain \nMany have gotten lost relying on GPS. This is the Wendy Trailhead\, where S. Wendy Dr. ends at Potrero Rd. \nHeading out\, we cross a creek\, turn right at the split\, then Turn right at the dead end. We regroup at the visitor center\, where there will be bathrooms. \nWe cross the wooden bridge and go left at the asphalt path. \nAfter 1/3 mile\, those that want the easier path turn left\, go 0.4 miles and turn right at the dead end. After 500′\, wait at the bench for the rest of the group (45 – 60 min). \nThe rest will continue down for 3/4 mile. There will be a porta-potty and picnic table. We’ll regroup\, then turn right and go about 1.3 miles and another 435′ of gain before turning left and heading up about 1/2 mile. \nAt the top\, we’ll turn left for 500′ and arrive at a bench and overlook. We’ll share snacks and beverages for 30-60 minutes\, then head down 500′\, turn right at the junction\, and return to our cars. \nIf you wish to return before the social event completes\, study the map so you can find your way back. \nThe Route\nHike Distance: 4.6 mi / 2.7 mi\nGain: 1000′ / 320′\nDistribution: Most of the incline is concentrated in the middle of this hike.\nDifficulty: Easy Intermediate / Fit beginner\nShape: Lollipop.\nPace: approx. 2.0 mph.\nTrail Type: Fire road\, double track\, single track.\nDuration: 3.5 hours\nDogs: We pass a “no dogs” sign.\nRestrooms: Yes\nDrinking Fountains: No.\nParking: Free along street.\nWhat to bring: 1 liter of water for every 3 miles.\nHiking shoes/boots. We will stop at junctions to make sure everybody makes any turns or chooses the correct direction at splits\, else something will be used to mark the direction\, usually an arrow made of baking soda or sticks. \nGroup separation: Hikers moving significantly ahead or not waiting at designated stopping points are on their own regarding route and navigation. \nInteresting Notes\nHere are a couple plants you will see on this hike: \nHeartleaf Penstemon\nLeaves are shiny and saw toothed\, shaped like hearts\, 2 to 6 centimeters long and arranged oppositely on the branches. This means devices like “UrSacks” are legal\, but not nearly as effective as hard canisters\, so the forest prefers if you use a canister. \n\nhttps://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd937089.pdf\nhttps://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd937090.pdf\n\nTRIP STATS: \n\nTotal Mileage: 28 – 38 miles\, depending\nElevation gain: 6\,400+ feet\nHighest: 10\,700 feet @ Duck Lake\nLowest: 7\,200 feet @ Iva Bell Hot Springs\n\nITINERARY FOR OUT/BACK HIKE: \n\nFriday\, August 9: meet at the Duck Pass Trailhead at 8am. Hike up to Purple Lake and camp overnight (5.6 miles).\nSaturday\, August 10: Option to go check out either Virginia Lake or Ram Lake prior to Iva Bell (this would add about 8 miles to your day). Hike up to Iva Bell Hot Springs and camp overnight (9.5 miles all downhill).\nSunday\, August 11: explore\, enjoy\, relax\, stay another night at Iva Bell. OR turn back to camp back at Purple Lake again if preferred\, or if the skeeters are worse at Iva Bell.\nMonday\, August 12: hike back to our vehicles (this will be very strenuous if out of Iva Bell (15 miles). If from Purple Lake\, not so bad (5.6 miles).\n\nITINERARY FOR THROUGH-HIKE (we can shorten the August 9 trip in order to squeeze this below itinerary but it might be really tough/strenuous): \n\nThursday\, August 22: Duck Pass to camp at Purple Lake (5.6 miles).\nFriday\, August 23: Hike to Iva Bell Hot Springs and camp (9.5 miles downhill).\nSaturday\, August 24: Either stay another night at Iva Bell\, or\, get on Fish Creek Trail and find a campsite somewhere along the 13 miles journey to Reds Meadow.\nSunday\, August 25: Hike to Rainbow Falls and take ESTA shuttle out\, back to Coldwater Campground.\n\nNOTES: \n\nThere are several campgrounds in the Lakes Basin area of Mammoth – so book a site now for Thursday August 8 and Wednesday\, August 21 if you want to be next to the trail head in the morning. We are starting early because it will likely be hot weather.\nColdwater CG on Inyo National Forest is where the Duck Pass trailhead is located; reserve at Recreation.gov.\n\nHelpful links: \n\nhttps://spearheadadventure.com/backpacking-iva-bell\nhttps://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/iva-bell-hot-springs-via-duck-pass-trail-jmt-and-fish-creek-trail\nhttps://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/inyo/recreation/hiking/recarea/?recid=20496&actid=51\nhttps://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/inyo/recreation/hiking/recarea/?recid=20502&actid=51\n\nDISCLAIMER: Hike at your own risk. DESCRIPTION:Hike #8 in the 2024 Saturday in the Santa Monica Mountains series\, is a moderate 10 mile\, 1700’ gain lollipop hike from Temescal Park to Inspiration Point in Will Rogers State Park and then unto Murphy Ranch where some participants added the two 500-step stairs up and back to work up an appetite for lunch at the “reputed Nazi encampment.” Return will be via Rustic Canyon back through Will Rogers State Park. \nBring water\, snacks\, sunscreen\, and a good attitude. Rain\, excessive heat\, or Red Flag alert cancels. Poles\, long sleeve shirts\, and long pants will be useful for traversing Rustic Canyon which is an adventurous trail. \nWe met at 8:00 AM at the water fountain across from the offices in Temescal Canyon. Park in the Temescal Canyon parking lot for a fee or outside the park on either side of Temescal Canyon Road for free. \nPlease print out the Sierra Club medical form and bring it with you. SUMMARY:Ray Miller Trail in La Jolla Canyon ~ Gentler Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:This hike will be Gentler Intermediate and Earlier of the Tuesday hikes!\nThe trail is an awesome blend of ocean and mountain views in Malibu’s La Jolla Canyon. We will start from the trailhead which follows the canyon eastward\, away from the ocean. Then\, it quickly brings you back toward the ocean at a gradual incline. There’s a great lookout spot where it gives you a breathtaking view of the Pacific Coast Highway against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean\, with sweeping views toward Mugu Rock on the west and Sycamore Cove on the east. After another peak\, you’ll start a slight decline that brings you to the fire road where we will turn around. Along the way\, we’ll be treated to magnificent sweeping views of La Jolla and Big Sycamore Canyons\, and of course\, the largest ocean in the world. On a clear day\, the Channel Islands are easily within sight\, although the marine layer has been pretty prominent this summer.\nThis is a 5-6 mile out and back hike with an elevation gain/loss of about 1000’. \nDirections: \nFrom Los Angeles\, take the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) north\, 22 miles from Malibu Canyon Rd. Across the street from Thornhill Broome Beach is the entrance to La Jolla Canyon. It is very clearly marked. Turn right. \nFrom Ventura\, take PCH eastward\, and turn left 4 miles after Las Posas Road into La Jolla Canyon. \nHeads up: There is a parking fee in the lot (or free with state parking pass). There is free parking on PCH just a short walk to the trailhead. \nPlease review the guidelines (guidelines) to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike at a moderate pace\, or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo “Plus Ones” or dogs on Weekday Trailblazer hikes.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. SUMMARY:Pick a Hike~5 or 7 mile intermediate hike ~ Ray Miller Trail / Overlook Trail
DESCRIPTION:It looks like cooler temperatures next week but just in case high heat creeps back in\, you can choose to do a 5.4 mile hike with about 1000’ gain up the Ray Miller Trail to the fire road or extend the hike to 7 miles by continuing on the Overlook Trail with about 1300’ gain. \nJoin us on an out and back hike up the Ray Miller Trail and the Overlook Trail. We’ll enjoy beautiful ocean views as we descend. We’ll pick up about 1300’ gain on this 7 mile adventure. \nLying along the brilliant blue Pacific Ocean at the west end of Malibu (just shy of Port Hueneme)\, the swelling blue ocean is rivaled in beauty by the undulating native California grasslands. On a clear day\, the Channel Islands are easily within sight. \nMost of the trail is exposed\, so sunscreen is highly recommended and plenty of water. \nWe’ll meet in the parking lot near the Ray Miller Trailhead (look for the brilliant yellow sign). There is a parking fee in the lot (or free with state parking pass). There is free parking on PCH just a short walk to the parking area. \nhttps://a248.e.akamai.net/secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/6/7/4/a/event_93326442.jpeg \nPlease review the ongoing guidelines to participate in our morning hikes. Across the street from Thornhill Broome Beach is the entrance to La Jolla Canyon. It is very clearly marked. Turn right. \nFrom Ventura\, take PCH eastward\, and turn left 4 miles after Las Posas Road. \nDo NOT leave anything of value in your car\, at this or any other trailhead. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Lynmere Loop from Wildwood Park (Fast Paced)
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY. \nKindly review the guidelines (link to the guidelines) to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your attendance. \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nYour safety is your own personal responsibility\, but the hike leader reserves the right to ask you to leave if you come unprepared.\nNo “Plus Ones” or dogs on Weekday Trailblazer hikes.\n\nLet’s do Lynmere from Wildwood for a change. \nWildwood Park in Thousand Oaks is one of the most versatile local parks there is\, with 27 miles of trails skittering through rocky cliffs\, cacti-filled desert environs\, volcanic rock\, riparian forest\, and a cool\, watery canyon. Highlights of the hike an Indian cave\, volcanic rock cliffs\, and wildflowers throughout. Wildwood’s archetypal western look served as the set for The Rifleman\, Gunsmoke\, and Wagon Train back in the day\, as well as the movie Spartacus. \nIt will start at the trailhead that has steps down to the Moonridge Trail. We’ll take Teepee Trail to Lynmere Trail. After completing the loop we may take Wildwood Canyon Trail\, pass by Paradise Falls\, and take our break in the picnic area. We will pick up Lizard Rock Trail and go by a water treatment plant on our way to Lizard Rock. We will either take Stagecoach Bluff Trail for some more elevation\, or catch Mesa Trail back to the parking lot. We’ll pass through various trails with bridges\, crossing streams\, and have some tree canopies for relief from the heat for approximately 7+ miles with about a 1200’ elevation gain/loss. \nDirections: \nFrom the 101 in Thousand Oaks\, turn north on Lynn Road and continue 2.6 miles to Avenida De Los Arboles\, then turn left. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Los Robles trailhead\, walking down to Las Padres and up and around
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: \nIt is awfully hot out there folks\, the only hike I will do is this one because we did it last week and there was lots of shade. This will be a gentler hike for Thursday. We will go slower and with less elevation gain and less miles. Some hikers may want to go on to Greenmeadow at the end\, but you can also return to the parking lot. We will start at 8:00. \nWe will start in the parking lot at the end of Moorpark and walk down the street to the Las Padres trail. From there we will loop around and come back to the Moorpark trailhead via the Los Robles trail. The map is not totally accurate\, just go to the end of Moorpark. \nPlease review the guidelines to participate in our hikes. SUMMARY:Talopop - Suitable for fit beginners
DESCRIPTION:Fit Beginner\, 4.1 miles\, 720′ gain.\nEasier route: 3.9 miles\, 500′ gain. \nIs it Talepop or Talopop? Maps and signs that I have seen\, use the 2nd spelling\, but a lot of references use the other. \nWe’ll meet in front of the facilities building at the center of the park. This is a lollipop hike. \nSome of the hike is fire road\, and a lot of the hike is single-track. Some has complete exposure to the sun\, and some is through shaded wooded areas. \nWe’ll head behind the facilities building in the center and head left down the Las Virgenes Trail. After 1/3 mile\, the trail turns 90 degrees\, we continue on the easier route for 1/10th mile instead of taking the trail that climbs the hill. \nAfter\, we cross the dry creek bed on a short bridge\, then come to a fire road. \nEasier Route: For those that want the slightly easier route\, turn left. Continue for 1.2 miles\, turning right\, and continuing on this path straight for 0.3 miles to the social event. \nRegular Route: Turn right and it becomes the Talopop Trail. We’ll follow it around for another 1.8 miles until it dead ends at a fire road\, Liberty Canyon Trail. There\, we’ll wait for others to catch up\, and we can share some beverages and/or snacks before continuing. \nWe’ll turn left and after 1/3 mile\, the trail dead ends again at Las Virgenes Fire Road. We’ll turn left again and travel 1.1 miles where we’ll hit another junction\, turning right back onto Las Virgenes Trail for the final 0.4 mile return\, making a left at the split right behind the facilities building. \nInteresting Notes: \nHere are a couple plants you are sure to see on this hike: \nBlack Sage\nMultiple brown buttons going up the top of the stalk\, that may have white flowers. Green leaves. Purple or white flowers that are dark brown as they dry on the plant. Squish the leaves and smell. \nA rare and sought after Black sage honey is also made from the honey of bees that pollinate the Black sage plant. Black sage is utilized in the culinary world as an aromatic and flavorful herb. It can be used in recipes wherever traditional sage is called for\, however keep in mind that foraged Black sage has a much stronger flavor than that of traditional store bought sage. \nIts flavor goes well with winter squashes\, brown butter\, poultry\, venison\, pears\, cheese\, potatoes and other herbs such as rosemary and thyme. Use fresh in a variety of different preparations or leaves. Can be dried and stored for future use as a dried herb. Black sage was used traditionally by Native Americans known as the Chumash people to form an herbal soak for the bath to be used in the treatment of bodily pain\, specifically for the feet and lower legs. \nCalifornia Sagebrush – Artemesia Californica\nAromatic when crushed. AKA\, common sage\, coastal sage. Sunflower family. Cowboys used to ride through it and brush up against the pine-shaped leaves\, coming home with the smell on their clothes and giving rise to the nickname “Cowboy Cologne.” Not a true sage. Can be used as a cooking spice and can be made into a tea. Tear off some needles by running your hand up the stalk and smell the aroma. \nAn infusion can be made for an insect repellent. \nDirections: \nTalopop\nJuan Bautista de Anza Park\n3701 Lost Hills Road\nCalabasas\, CA 91301 \nFrom the 118\nWest to CA-23 south\nCA-23 south for 7.4 miles\nUS-101 east for 9.5 miles\nExit 33 Lost Hills Rd.\nLost Hills Rd. south for 0.2 miles\nPark on the right. \nFrom the 101\nExit 33 Lost Hills Rd.\nLost Hills Rd. south for 0.2 miles\nPark on the right. \nThe Hike\nDistance: 4.1 miles\, 3.5 hours\, counter-clockwise\nor 3.9 miles\, out and back.\nElevation Gain: 720′ or 500′\nDistribution: Reasonably well distributed\, some of the gain on the return portion.\nShape: Lollipop or out-and-back (easier route)\nDifficulty: Fit-Beginner\nPace: 2.0 mph\nDuration: 3.5 hours\nDogs: No\nRestrooms: Yes\, at the start.\nDrinking Fountains: Yes\, at the start.\nParking: Free in the paved lot\, or along the street..\nTrail: Fire Road and single track\, good condition. \nHosting \nRoute: The host knows the route. This hike will include an extended stop for a snack and beverage share at the half way point. \nWe will stop at junctions to make sure everybody makes any turns or chooses the correct direction at splits\, else something will be used to mark the direction\, usually a large arrow made of baking soda or an arrow on the ground made of sticks. \nEach hiker is responsible for knowing their capability\, only attending events where they are able to sustain the described pace\, for keeping up with the group sufficiently enough to make the turns and not get left behind. \nWhat to Bring:\n2 liters of water.\nSnacks and/or beverages to share\nHiking shoes preferred\, but athletic shoes will be OK.\nFlashlight or headlamp.\nSunscreen and/or hat as needed. \nFAQ\nHiking Plus Page Links\nDisclaimer / Release of Liability

SUMMARY:Tehachapi Mountain Hike\, lunch\, and Mountain Festival
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this up and back hike in Tehachapi Park. This hike doesn’t include the very steep last three quarter mile to the peak. Once we arrive at the junction for the turnoff to the peak there will be the option to go back or continue down the trail for another 1 to 2 miles. If you choose to go back at the junction it will be about a 4 plus mile up and back hike. If you continue on it will be around 6-8 miles with about an 1\,500 foot elevation gain. The hike both up to the junction and beyond are both steady climbs so this hike is not for beginners but it can easily be done for someone who exercises regularly and is accustomed to moderate hikes. Since the trail is actually a dirt road it is the perfect hike for socializing and getting to know others. After the hike for those who would like to join me\, (which is not required) we will eat lunch at Kohen’s Bakery in Tehachapi. After lunch those who are interested can join me at Philip Marx Central Mark for the annual Tehachapi Mountain Festival which is the largest local event of the year featuring arts\, crafts\, music\, food\, and fun for the entire family. If you are from Bakersfield we will meet at Starbucks on Weedpatch highway\, just off highway 58 at 7:15 if you are interested in carpooling. If you don’t want to carpool or you are coming from somewhere outside of Bakersfield you can meet us at the trailhead by following Google Maps to the Nuooah Nature Trail trailhead. Hopefully we should arrive at the trailhead sometime around 8:30. Hope you can join us for what should be a great day of hiking\, food\, and fun…Bill \n*** PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY *** No one in the group is a guide or in any way responsible for your comfort or safety.
