SUMMARY:PCT: Indian Canyon to Vasquez Rocks
DESCRIPTION:** Please read the entire description before you RSVP as things will be a little different with this hike ** \nhttps://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/pct-vasquez-to-indian-canyon?u=i&sh=aoxfvb \nHello Everyone\, \nWe will be doing this hike northbound (opposite the AllTrails route). We will do close to 9 miles of the PCT. We will see some interesting rock formations including Three Sisters Rock and Vasquez Rocks and a cool tunnel under the 14 Freeway. We may also come across some PCT thru hikers. There is no shade\, so we will be starting as early as possible. Please make sure you are prepared for 5 hours of sun exposure. This is a point-to-point hike where one trailhead requires an Adventure Pass (America the Beautiful Pass also accepted). The meeting place will be the in the parking lot at the Vasquez Rocks Nature Center. The parking lot is free and opens at 8 am. We will carpool from Vasquez Rocks to the Indian Canyon trailhead (Adventure Pass required) and hopefully be on the trail by 8:30 am. At this point\, the group size is limited to 5 people because we only have 1 guaranteed carpool vehicle (we need to leave at least 1 at the end point). I will move people over from the waitlist if I can get another driver willing to transport hikers to the starting trailhead and/or hikers driving themselves to Vasquez Rocks willing to drive people back to their cars at Indian Canyon. Please DM me if you are willing to do any transporting. As a courtesy to others\, please remove yourself from the attending list immediately if you find that you cannot attend the hike. The RSVP window will close at Noon the day before the hike. \nOptional: We also plan on going to 49er Saloon in Acton after the hike for a late lunch (https://www.the49ersalooncompany.com). \nCarpooling will be offered for anyone who wishes to carpool or follow to the trailhead (Best Donuts – 2325 Kuehner Dr #127\, Simi Valley at 7:30 am). I have attached the AllTrials link to give you an idea of the stats (remember we are doing this backwards): https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/pct-vasquez-to-indian-canyon?u=i&sh=aoxfvb \nPoint to point trail\nMiles 8.7\nElevation Gain ~1600 ft\nRated moderate\nParking: Lot at Vasquez Rocks with additional overflow parking on dirt; paved lot at Indian Canyon\nRestrooms: Portable toilet at Vasquez Rocks (regular restroom available when the Nature Center opens at 8:30 am); Pit toilet at Indian Canyon. \nFor those on the waitlist\, please DM me (Kim) the following information: \n\nDo you have an Adventure Pass or are you willing to get one? Adventure Pass Info: Region 5 – Recreation Passes & Permits (usda.gov)\nAre you willing to shuttle hikers from one trailhead to another?\n\nAnswering “No” to either question will not prevent you from being able to join the hike. I just need to figure out logistics and how to move people around. Waitlist people will be moved over to attending in order of first DM to me and availability of transportation. I will do my best to keep people updated on the Comments Wall or via DM. \nAs of now there is no sweeper for this hike. If you feel you cannot finish for any reason\, please turn back early. Remember this is a point-to-point hike so your vehicle will not be at the trailhead unless you drive there. \nPlease check back on hike info as rain\, heat advisory\, strong winds or low attendance may cause the hike to be rescheduled.\nWe will always follow Jim’s Golden Rules: 1. Hike your own hike 2. Please stop at every junction and split to wait for others to catch up\nPlease remember to bring all essentials you’ll need for a hike: (water\,hat\,sunglasses\,hiking boot/hiking shoes poles if needed snacks) \nLiability Disclaimer: And last….The Organizer\, Co Organizer\, Assistant Organizers and Event hosts in this group are not professional guides. The function of the Organizer is only to organize the trip. Each person who signs up for an Event is responsible for his or her own safety and the safety of his or her guest. Remember this is your hike. All responsibilities are of your own once you attend. Please be aware of your limit. During outdoor activity you can encounter bodily injury\, snake bites\, sunburn\, and overheating. This is not within our control and we ask that you are prepared for any of the above once you sign up for an event. If you need to take several breaks (not counting quick breather breaks) and stops throughout a hike\, the hike may be too much for your ability. Please check each event for miles\, elevation gain and difficulty rating. The higher the elevation gain means more incline and less leveled off sections. We offer all types of level hikes from moderate to hard/advanced only. We encourage everyone to not give up working on their core by joining our easier moderate Events then joining our harder hikes once you are ready. 😊

SUMMARY:🚘 Back to the Future Hike at China Flat (& Simi Peak) - Lunch at Lamppost Pizza
DESCRIPTION:On this one\, Marty McFly will be taking us to China Flat\, the 1885 location of the Seamus McFly farm\, Boothill Cemetery and the Delgado Mine. Seamus was/is/will-be Marty’s great-great-grandfather. DeLoreans are no longer allowed on the trail so this will be a little strenuous. \nWe’re heading back to the future in more ways than one. We did this just after the Woolsey fire and have been watching it come back ever since. You can view a slide show here: https://www.hikingwithdean.com/event/back-to-the-future-hike/ \nHike will be a loop of appx. 8.5 miles with about 2200′ total ascent and is rated as DIFFICULT due to terrain. See ratings guide here \nPOST HIKE LUNCH \nLamppost Pizza\n1145 Lindero Canyon rd.\nWestlake Village\, CA 91362\n(Corner of Lindero and Kanan) \nSee https://www.hikingwithdean.com/event/back-to-the-future-hike/ for complete description \nDIRECTIONS \nFrom U.S. 101 in Agoura\, exit on Kanan Road and drive north three miles to Hollytree Drive. Turn right\, then left into Oak Canyon Community Park. After entering park make an immediate left into the first parking lot. We will meet by the pond. If the lot is full\, follow the park access road to the main parking area further up the road and walk across park back to pond. \nTrail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need. \nTrail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly. \nThe Organizers and members in this group are not professional leaders\, guides\, or mountaineers. The function of the member or organizer is only to organize the trip. Each person who shows up for a trip/meetup (and their guest or guests) is responsible for his or her own safety. By attending a hike\, or any other event organized by this group\, you are acknowledging that you and any guests that you bring are aware of the risks\, dangers and hazards associated with the activity and freely accept and fully assume all such risks\, dangers and hazards\, and further agree to release and discharge the Organizers\, Members of the Hiking With Dean Meetup Group from and against any and all liability arising from your participation in the group activities per the ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND LIABILITY WAIVER.

We continue for another 2/3 mile and cross a bridge just past the Meadows Picnic area. \nWe’ll make a left\, continuing on Wildwood Canyon Trail\, past the Tee Pee Trail\, behind Paradise Falls\, left at the split\, and after about a mile\, Wildwood Canyon Picnic area will be on the left. There will be several tables. \nThis is a pot luck picnic. Please bring something to eat and drink\, and a little extra to share. If your item requires it\, bring plates and utensils to share. We’ll share snacks and drinks for 60 – 90 minutes\, before heading back the way we came. \nThe Hike\nDistance: 4 miles\nGain: 600′\nDistribution: Well distributed.\nDifficulty: Fit Beginner\nShape: Out and Back.\nPace: approx. 2.0 mph.\nTrail Type: Fire Road\, Single-Track\, and Double-Track.\nDuration: 4.0 hours\nDogs: Yes.\nRestrooms: Yes\nDrinking Fountains: Yes.\nParking: Free along street. \nWhat to bring\n1 liter of water for every 3 miles.\nHiking shoes/boots.\nFlashlight or headlamp (if it will be dark during any part of the event).\nSunscreen and/or hat as needed.\nSnacks and/or beverages to share. \nHosting \nRoute: The host knows the route. SUMMARY:Hike at Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park - Borrego Trail & Billy Goat Trail
DESCRIPTION:The total mileage for this hike is 5 miles with about 800 ft. of elevation gain. \nWe will start at the trail head of the Borrego Trail\, which is right off of the parking lot. This is where we will meet. We will head up the Borrego Trail until we get to Mustard Road. Here we will turn right. Then we will get onto the Billy Goat Trail. Once that ends\, we will turn right to go on Whiting Spur Road. When we get down to Four Corners\, we will head back on Mustard Road to Borrego Canyon. From Borrego Trail\, we will take this back to the parking lot. \nThis is a moderate hike in general\, but the Billy Goat Trail does pose some difficulty due to it being a bit more narrow and rocky. \nHere is a link to the park map: http://ocparks.com/civicax/filebank/blobdload.aspx?BlobID=15841 \nThe trail head we will be going on is off of the parking lot on Portola in between Alton Pkwy. and Bake Pkwy. Let’s meet right at the trail head by the sign. \nThe address is: 26701 Portola Parkway\, Foothill Ranch\, CA 92610 \nIf you have any questions\, let me know! I’m looking forward to the hike! \nDogs are not allowed at this park. \nThere is parking near the trailhead. Parking is $3\, unless you have an OC Parks Annual Permit. If you hike a lot\, it’s totally worth it: http://ocparks.com/about/fees/pass

SUMMARY:Memorial Day Hike at Caspers Wilderness Park (2 Options)
DESCRIPTION:The longer hike I am planning is around 6.3 miles with about 825 ft. of elevation gain. It starts at the very end of the paved road\, the long gray strip that can be seen on the map. \nThe shorter alternate cuts off the last hill and ridge. That distance is 4.8 miles with about 615 ft. of elevation gain. \nWe will begin at the Bell Canyon Trail head. We will continue onto that and then take it to the Cougar Pass trail. We will go up that and make a left on Oso Trail. Once that ends\, we will come back down Bell Canyon Trail until we hit Star Ridge Trail. (The shorter route will just continue on Bell Canyon back to the parking lot.) We will take this to West Ridge Trail and go left. This will take us to a single track trail\, Dick Loskorn Trail. This hits Nature Loops Trail and this will take us back to the beginning. \nThis is a beautiful hike with expansive views. It is a nice and remote hike\, so you are really out there in the wilderness. \nIf you have any questions regarding the park or the trails we will be on\, please let me know! \nHere is a link to the park map: http://ocparks.com/civicax/filebank/blobdload.aspx?BlobID=8164 \nThe address is: 33401 Ortega Hwy. San Juan Capistrano\, CA 92675 \nDogs are not allowed at this park. \nParking is $5\, unless you have an OC Parks Annual Permit. If you hike a lot\, it’s totally worth it: http://ocparks.com/about/fees/pass You can buy the pass at the park.

SUMMARY:Dos Vientos - Memorial Day Picnic
DESCRIPTION:5.2 miles\, 1140′ gain\, Intermediate\nBeginner Option: 3.5 miles\, 500′ gain\, Fit Beginner \nCome to the hike only (3:30p)\, picnic only (5:00p)\, or both. \nWarning: Google Maps may take you to the incorrect location\, although the address is correct. Please follow the written directions. \nThe Hike\n3:30 pm at the parking lot entrance. \nWe take the Park View trail\, flat along a gravel track\, moving around Dos Vientos park. It then gently rises into the hills\, continuing onto the Powerline trail. \nParts are strewn with small rubble but there are still clear foot paths along the edge. It will get the heart pumping. At the height of this point\, there is a fantastic overlook. \nFor some additional challenge\, one can continue another 0.85 miles for another 450′ of gain and 190′ on the return. It continues to the next electrical tower where the trail splits. This leads to the 2\,200 feet high Conejo Mountain in Camarillo\, CA. \nWhether you decide to take the extra segment or not\, you will be rewarded by great views. This trail offers panoramic views of the Oxnard Plain\, the Pacific Ocean\, numerous Channel Islands\, Boney Mountain\, Mugu Lagoon\, and the Topa Topa Mountains. \nThe mountainside is mixed with the remnants of a brush fire and new growth. I will be marking the trail with white arrows at junctions so that nobody gets lost and hikers can turn around at any point. \nThe Picnic\nApproximately 5:00p.\nThe location of the picnic will be at this park\, but since we aren’t reserving an area\, we’ll use whatever area is available. Our first choice will be under the awning to the right of the parking lot (entry: west from Borchard) immediately after entering. If that is taken\, there are more grills just to the side of that area\, and if that is in use\, there are more areas in the park. \nThis is a pot luck picnic. Please also bring something to eat and drink\, and a little extra to share. If your item requires it\, bring plates and utensils to share. \nYou can leave your pot luck item in the car and retrieve it after the hike. Bring something to put on in case it starts to get cool. \nAlcohol IS allowed in this park.\nPhotos from 2022 \nThe Park\nThe Dos Vientos building is open until 10pm on weekdays\, 6pm on weekends. The park has plenty of parking in a paved lot\, has indoor drinking fountains and bathrooms\, and various picnic areas with barbecue grills. \nInteresting Notes.\nYou will see these on the hike. \nPrickly Pear Cactus\nInside and fruit are edible. Remove needles and scrape to remove hairs\, cut top off\, hollow out to make water container. Burn off needles. Fruit peels easily. Eat seeds and all. Use duct tape to remove thorns from hands. \nLichen\nA composite organism arising from algae\, cyanobacteria\, or both\, and often fungi. They come in many colors. Not related to moss or any plant. They get all their food from photosynthesis\, air\, water\, and minerals in their environment. Most comes from air\, and therefore\, can be used to monitor air pollution. 6% of earth’s land surface is covered by lichens. This is the paint that gives the look of the rocks of Yosemite. 20\,000 known species. Self-contained ecosystems. Some of the oldest living things. Can survive unprotected in space\, surviving vacuum\, fluctuating temperatures\, and cosmic radiation. Used for making dyes\, sometimes by boiling in water. Some are edible\, some poisonous. \nDirections\nDos Vientos Community Park\n4801 Borchard Rd\nNewbury Park\, CA 91320\n34.175179\, -118.981733 \nFrom the 118\nWest to CA-23.\nCA-23 south for 7.4 miles.\nUS-101 north for 4.1 miles.\nExit 47B Borchard Rd.\nBorchard Rd. south for 7 miles.\nDos Vientos park entrance on the right. \nFrom CA-23\nCA-23 south to US-101.\nUS-101 north for 4.1 miles.\nExit 47B Borchard Rd.\nBorchard Rd. south for 7 miles.\nDos Vientos park entrance on the right. \nFrom US-101 (Camarillo/Ventura)\nUS-101 south.\nExit 47A Borchard Rd.\nBorchard Rd. south for 7 miles.\nDos Vientos park entrance on the right. \nHike Stats\nFit Beginner\, 3.5 miles\, 500′ gain\, 1.5 hours\nIntermediate\, 5.2 miles\, 1140′ gain\, 2 hours \nPace: 2.0 mph\nDogs: Yes.\nRestrooms: Yes.\nDrinking Fountains: Yes.\nParking: Free in paved lot.\nTrail: Single track and fire road. SUMMARY:Corriganville the Back Way Double Loop Lollipop
DESCRIPTION:4 miles\, 700′ gain\, easy-intermediate\nEasy option: 2.5 miles\, 500′ gain \nParking on the south side of the CA-118 at the Rocky Peak exit. We’ll walk west along the Santa Susana Pass Rd. for about 500 feet\, and directly across from Lilac Ln\, we’ll enter a trail. We’ll move along a relatively flat section for 1/2 mile\, turn right\, and make a gradual climb until just before the wildlife tunnel. \nWe turn left and take a set of switchbacks down into Corriganville. We’ll now be in front of a picnic pavilion. \nEasy Option: Wait at the pavilion for about 35 minutes. \nThe rest of the group will continue for loop\, returning back to this same place. \nWe’ll turn right and proceed to loop through the park\, where we’ll pass an outdoor amphitheater\, then make a mild climb to the top of a hill. \nWe’ll turn right\, zig-zag down\, and then make a left to the wide center trail that leads up through the park to its only parking lot. We won’t cross to the lot yet. \nWe’ll follow the trail as it bends to the right until it eventually bends back left and heads into the parking area. We’ll then walk along the side of the lot and head back to the picnic pavilion\, where we’ll have a social event. \nAfter the event\, we’ll circle around the front of the pavilion and walk along railroad tracks for 200 yards towards the park lot. Behind a couple small shacks\, we’ll turn left and cross the tracks\, then head onto a trail and take this all the way back to Santa Susana Pass Rd. and then our cars. \nThe park officially closes at sunset\, so we’ll try to start heading back before dark. \nInteresting Notes \nHere are a couple plants you are sure to see on this hike: \nCalifornia Sagebrush \nAromatic when crushed. AKA\, common sage\, coastal sage. Sunflower family. Cowboys used to ride through it and brush up against the pine-shaped leaves\, coming home with the smell on their clothes and giving rise to the nickname “Cowboy Cologne.” Not a true sage. Can be used as a cooking spice and can be made into a tea. Tear off some needles by running your hand up the stalk and smell the aroma. \nPurple Sage \nGrey-green leaves. Aromatic when crushed. Purple flowers. Aka\, Tobacco Sage\, with mild hallucinogenic properties when smoked. Can be used as a spice or made into a tea. Tea has medicinal affects: Antiviral\, gargle for sore throats\, reduce hay fever symptoms and other drying actions. In the last summer\, fall\, and winter months\, the flowers will have turned brown and the leaves we take on a greyer color. \nDirections\nRocky Peak Exit\, South Side of CA-118\nSimi Valley\, CA 93065\n34.268396\, -118.636139 \nFrom the 118\nExit 32 Rocky Peak Rd.\nPark on south of the freeway along Santa Susanna Pass Rd. \nFrom the 101 @ CA-23\nNorth CA-23 for 8.4 miles.\nEast I-118 for 14 miles.\nExit 32 Rocky Peak Rd.\nPark on south of the freeway along Santa Susanna Pass Rd. \nThe Hike\nDistance: 3.5 miles\nElevation Gain: 700′\nDifficulty: Easy Intermediate\nPace: 2.0 mph\nDogs: Yes.\nRestrooms: Yes\, at the picnic pavilion.\nDrinking Fountains: Yes\nParking: Free\, south side of CA-118\nTrail: Single Track\, Double Track\, and fire road.\nPurpose: Social \nWhat to Bring:\n1-2 liters of water.\nSnacks and/or beverages to share\nHiking shoes preferred\, but athletic shoes will be OK.\nFlashlight or headlamp. SUMMARY:Trail Canyon Falls Trail - Big Tujunja Canyon
DESCRIPTION:*** Safety Note: Rain or Extreme Heat at trailhead cancels hikes. \nMeetup Time: 7:30 A.M. (We hit the trail promptly at 7:45) \nPARKING/CARPOOLING – There is parking on the side of Big Tujunga Cyn Road\, but this is a popular hike right now and parking is limited – so carpooling is highly recommended. DO NOT KEEP ANY VALUABLES IN SIGHT IN YOUR VEHICLE! – there have been car break-ins when people left valuables visible in their car! \nDISTANCE: Minimum 4.9 miles – out and back. \nGAIN: Minimum 1276 ft \nRATED: Intermediate hike\, with some exposed hill climbs. Several creek crossings\, but you do not need to get wet. \nHIKE DURATION: About 3 – 4 hours (including a 20-minute snack time at the creek!). \nDESCRIPTION:\nWe’ll park on the highway at the trailhead. The first 3/4 mile is a dirt road that has some old grandfathered properties that we’ll pass by. At that point\, we’ll follow the canyon bottom along a well running creek\, and cross over the creek several times (you can cross without getting your feet wet). We’ll then leave the wonderful and cool creek bottom area\, and climb up an exposed ridge for another mile or so\, then drop back down slightly to the top of a really nice waterfall. We’ll likely stop there for a break/snack before returning the way we came. The temperature is expected to be in the 80’s-90’s Saturday\, but we’ll update you as we get closer with an updated forecast. \nSome scrambling Involved – To go to the bottom of the Waterfall\, you’ll need to climb down a short section of nearly vertical wall. You can step down\, but you will need to hold onto installed ropes to guide you down\, but to climb back up\, you’ll need to step up that wall\, and use the installed ropes to pull yourself up. Its only about 20 feet\, and should be doable for everyone\, but be aware. \nCAUTIONS: \n\nIf you are afraid of heights\, the exposed hill climb up to the waterfall is steep and narrow.\nRattlesnakes – always a possibility this time of year.\nParking and thefts – we saw a vehicle that someone had broken a window to steal what was inside. Do NOT leave anything visible in your car!\n\nBRING: \n\nAssume it will be warm to hot\, but it’s always smart to layer.\nPoles will be useful for creek crossing and the hill climb to the waterfall.\nRecommend a minimum of 3 liters of Water\, Electrolytes\, Snack lunch; a hat; and Sunscreen.\n\nADVENTURE PASS: Not required. \n**MEET AT: (**Google GPS Coordinates: 34.303714068691164\, -118.25772643048175**) Park on the side of the highway where available. If you’re coming from the 210 freeway\, exit at Sunland Blvd\, go north. It turns into Foothill Blvd. Turn left at Vista Oro\, go north to Big Tujunga Canyon Road\, then turn right (north) approx 4.8 miles. Look for cars parked along the highway for the trailhead. Meet at the gate at the trailhead at 7:30 am. We start hiking promptly at 7:45 am. \nLearn more: AllTrails page for this hike. Trail Canyon Falls: 4096 Reviews\, Map – California | AllTrails \nBathrooms: There are no bathroom facilities at this location. \nDogs: OK\, if well behaved around other dogs/ people with hiking poles and on a leash. Creek crossing may present a challenge for some dogs. If you bring a dog\, you likely will not be able to repell down the canyon wall to get to the waterfall bottom\, or pull yourself up with you and your dog! \nLeaders: Gary S. and Paul H.

SUMMARY:BIKE VENTURA HARBOR TO HOBSON FOLLOWED BY CONCERT
DESCRIPTION:THE WEEKDAY TRAILBLAZERS BIKE LADY IS BACK!\nRIDE COAST FROM VENTURA HARBOR TO HOBSON\nTHEN PICNIC AND ROCK ‘N ROLL TO THE VANISE TERRY BAND \nBike ride meets and rolls from the Village at the Ventura Harbor at 9:00 AM for about 28 miles of mostly flat cycling along the coast with a mix of bike lanes and bike paths as our trails. \nRoute will take us around the Harbor\, past the Ventura Pier\, up the Omer Rains Bike Path then continue on PCH to Hobson Beach Park. We’ll have our snack/rest break at Hobson then return to the Harbor. \nBIKE ROUTE MAP : https://goo.gl/maps/CGnKu7R6ffBkYD2w8\nLink for planning purposes. Our route may be a bit different from Google’s and we may use more residential streets. Google underestimates elevation gain\, expect about 350 feet. Time estimate assumes faster speed and no break. Intermediate level pace and distance. Too fast and too far for beginners. \nTHE CONCERT\nMy friend Vanise Terry and her band will be rocking the Harbor from Noon to 3:00 PM. She has a great voice and personality. I think you will enjoy her. Vanise and her band perform at many local brew pubs\, clubs and tasting rooms. I anticipate the band will play some classic rock with perhaps some country and contemporary songs. Check out Vanise at http://vanisemusic.com/ Bring your own chair\, hat and a picnic lunch. You can also buy food at the Harbor. \nFYI\, there is also a Mental Wellness Fest at the harbor from 10-5. That event will be in the lawn area. If you want even more music\, there’s a blue grass band in that section at 3. You are welcome to check out the festival too. It will be a busy day at the harbor. \nDO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING OF VALUE IN YOUR CAR. \nWHAT TO BRING: \nFOR YOUR BIKE: Bike in good working order–chain lubed\, gears shift easily\, seat at right height\, tires pumped up and brakes checked\, extra air in MTB tires. Please have your bike ready BEFORE time to leave at 9:00 AM. Road bikes and hybrids best. E-bikes OK\, but ALL riders are expected to stay with the group\, NO using throttle to go out ahead or lagging behind then racing to catch up or pass. Flats happen. You MUST bring a spare tube\, patch kit\, tire levers. If you don’t have a frame pump or CO2 system\, get one before the ride. If your bike requires special tools\, you must bring them and know how to use them. Host will not be your bike mechanic. If you are staying for the concert\, please make sure you can lock your bike to your rack or put it in your vehicle. \nFOR YOU: Helmets are MANDATORY. Be sure to bring water/hydration and snacks. SUMMARY:Let's meetup and hike around a movie set
DESCRIPTION:This is monthly docent led hike that happens on the first Saturday I will unfortunately will not be doing this adventure; I also have a bike ride planned. The volunteer that does this hike is very knowledgeable and familiar with the area. \nFranklin Canyon in Beverly Hills is a nature center and park full of hiking trails. This will be a unique opportunity to step onto a actual movie set with a ranger providing some behind the scenes information. I have tested out this monthly easy hike. The outing will last about two hours with minimal elevation gained/lost. Frequent stops to rest and talk will make this attractive to some people that are not ready to climb the big hills. I do THAT every Friday evening with a Sierra Club group. If you get lost\, my cell is eight one eight 348-8884.

SUMMARY:Chesebro Canyon MTB trail potluck hike - fit beginner
DESCRIPTION:Fit Beginner 4.3 miles\, 480′ gain.\nEasier Option: 4 miles\, 230′ gain. \nWe walk a mostly flat section for 1.1 mi. to the 2nd junction. \nEasier option: Continue straight for 3/4 mi.\, left at the split\, right after another 500′\, arriving at some picnic tables on the right after another 750′. \nRegular route: Left\, heading up a switch back. Right at the top\, and continue for 3/4 mi.\, turning right where it ends. Head down to the bottom\, left at the split. After 750′\, we arrive at some picnic tables on the right. \nThis is a pot luck picnic. Please bring something to eat and drink\, and a little extra to share. If your item requires it\, bring plates and utensils to share. Pot Luck guidelines Link \nWe’ll share snacks and drinks for 60-90 minutes\, then return by a straight path\, no turns. \nFun Facts\nWhat is MTB?\nAnswer: Mountain Bike (not Mountain Terrain Bike)\nThe name I see on a map is: Chesebro Canyon MTB Trail \nWhy is it spelled Cheeseboro Canyon\, Chesebro Canyon MTB Trail\, and Chesebro Rd?\nThe original owner of the land in the late 1800s was Oscar Cheesebrough. The NPS adopted the U.S. Geological Survey spelling of Cheeseboro\, while Caltrans adopted the name Chesebro.\nReference Link \nHosting \nRoute\nThe host knows the route. A pic of the route has been posted as part of this description. The host may vary the route slightly. \nNavigation: Host memory\, enhanced by GPS navigation as needed. \nHike type: Social.\nWe won’t be hiking at a fast pace because this is a social hike\, not a conditioning hike. There is nothing wrong with stopping\, even if it means every 50 steps. \nStops:\nWe will stop at junctions to make sure everybody makes any turns\, else something will be used to mark the direction. \nEach hiker is responsible for knowing their capability\, only attending events where they are able to sustain the described pace\, for keeping up with the group sufficiently enough to make the turns and not get left behind. \nInteresting Notes\nHere are a couple plants you are sure to see on this hike: \nBlack Sage\nMultiple brown buttons going up the top of the stalk\, that may have white flowers. Green leaves. Purple or white flowers that are dark brown as they dry on the plant. Squish the leaves and smell. \nA rare and sought after Black sage honey is also made from the honey of bees that pollinate the Black sage plant. Black sage is utilized in the culinary world as an aromatic and flavorful herb. It can be used in recipes wherever traditional sage is called for\, however keep in mind that foraged Black sage has a much stronger flavor than that of traditional store bought sage. \nIts flavor goes well with winter squashes\, brown butter\, poultry\, venison\, pears\, cheese\, potatoes and other herbs such as rosemary and thyme. Use fresh in a variety of different preparations or leaves. Can be dried and stored for future use as a dried herb. \nBlack sage was used traditionally by Native Americans known as the Chumash people to form an herbal soak for the bath to be used in the treatment of bodily pain\, specifically for the feet and lower legs. \nYellow Star Thistle\nThorny. Also called yellow cockspur and golden star thistle. Generally considered a weed. Long-term ingestion by horses causes a neurological disorder known as chewing disease\, a lethal lesion of the nigropallidal region of the brain. This disease is expressed as a twitching of the lips\, tongue flicking\, and involuntary chewing. Permanent brain damage is possible\, and affected horses may starve to death. \nUsed in Turkish folk medicine for the treatment of ulcers. In a laboratory study\, aqueous extracts of fresh or dried flowers of yellow star thistle given orally showed significant antiulcerogenic activity in rats. \nOther\nDogs allowed? Yes \nDirections\nChesebro Canyon MTB trail\n5402 Chesebro Rd\, Agoura Hills\, CA 91301 \nFrom I-101:\nExit Chesebro Rd..Palo Comado Canyon Rd.\nContinue north. It becomes Palo Comado Canyon Rd and rotates west.\nRight at Chesebro Rd. for 0.4 miles.\nPark on the street.\nAfter the 1 lane bridge\, you’ve gone too far. \nFAQ\nHiking Plus Page Links\nDisclaimer / Release of Liability

SUMMARY:EarlyParker Mesa Overlook with extension - Intermediate Hike
DESCRIPTION:Restrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\nUnregistered or waitlisted will be turned away\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\nPlan on completing the entire hike or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo dogs\n\nTopanga State Park is 36 square miles of natural wonder ensconced within Los Angeles’ city limits. Starting at Trippet Ranch\, we’ll ramble through a shady oak grove favored by mule deer and into stretches of grassland. \nBeyond the ranch\, the trail begins to rise along the ridgeline between Topanga and Santa Ynez Canyons. Giant slabs of sandstone mark the route to their former home beneath the Pacific Ocean.\nWhen the rising is done\, we’ll rest on Parker Mesa Overlook\, with the entire LA Basin stretched below us\, the majestic San Gabriel Mountains to our north\, Catalina Island to the south\, and the sweeping crescent of the Santa Monica coastline to the east. \nThis is about a 6.7 mile out and back hike\, with 1200’ feet of elevation gain. We will add an extension midway up of roughly 0.7 mile to make it (sort of) an even 8 miles. Traffic on Topanga Canyon Blvd can make the drive longer than you expect\, so give yourself enough time. \nDirections: \nFrom the 101\, exit at Topanga Canyon Boulevard (CA 27)\, drive south over the crest of the mountains and proceed three miles to Entrada Road (not Entrado!) and turn left. Keep to the left at every opportunity until you reach the park’s main parking lot (about one mile) \nFrom the Pacific Coast Highway\, travel north on Topanga Canyon Boulevard\, pass the post office at the center of “town\,” then turn right on Entrada Road. Keep to the left at every opportunity until you reach the park’s main parking lot (about one mile). \nParking is $10.00/$9.00 for seniors (exact change) in Park. SUMMARY:Parker Mesa Overlook with extension - Intermediate Hike
There is some street parking (free) outside of the park on the road. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY\nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY:\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals.\nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. By participating in any posted event\, you are taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions.\nIf you choose to sign up for this or any Weekday Trailblazers Meetup event\, you are releasing the Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers from all liability in case of possible injuries. Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience.\n** Anyone 18 yrs. or younger must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.\n** As usual\, no “Plus Ones.” Get your friends to sign up and register for the hike – it’s not that hard!
