The canyon has a rare stand of California Valley Oak. Soon we will cross Liberty Creek turn west onto and up the Phantom Trail. After a couple miles the trail puts us down onto Mulholland Hwy. We proceed across Mulholland onto the Cistern Trail in Malibu Creek Stat Park. Shells! Each time I go I see or learn something different about the place. \nStarting out Las Llajas has some shade\, the way up to the mine there will not be any shade\, so make sure you are prepared for sun exposure.This hike should probably only take about 2 hours but allow for 3 just in case! We will take a short break to explore the mine area and then head back the way we came. \nDistance: 6 milesElevation Gain: 1000′Difficulty: Easy IntermediateDogs: noRestrooms: noWater Fountain: NoParking: Free on the street but be mindful of the signsTrail: Out and backSunset: 5:23 pmWeather: If it is hotter than 85 I may cancel since there is no shade on the way to the mine.
