SUMMARY:Talopop - Suitable for fit beginners
DESCRIPTION:Fit Beginner\, 4.1 miles\, 720′ gain. \nIs it Talepop or Talopop? Maps and signs that I have seen\, use the 2nd spelling\, but a lot of references use the other. \nThere are several portions with extended inclines that will make a beginner hiker stop for a breather. \nThere is nothing wrong with stopping\, even if it means every 50 steps. A couple of the inclines\, while not extreme\, continue for about 1000 steps\, and there are also several hills that are about 100 steps each. We won’t be hiking this trail at a fast pace because this is a social hike\, not a conditioning hike. See “How hard is this hike” in the discussion section (https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/messages/boards/thread/50879781). \nWe’ll meet in front of the facilities building at the center of the park. This is a lollipop hike. \nSome of the hike is fire road\, and a lot of the hike is single-track. Some has complete exposure to the sun\, and some is through shaded wooded areas. \nWe’ll head behind the facilities building in the center and head left down the Las Virgenes Trail. After 1/3 mile\, the trail turns 90 degrees\, we continue on the easier route for 1/10th mile instead of taking the trail that climbs the hill. After we cross the dry creek bed where a bridge used to be\, we turn right and it becomes the Talopop Trail. \nWe’ll follow it around for another 1.8 miles until it dead ends at a fire road\, Liberty Canyon Trail. There\, we’ll wait for others to catch up\, and we can share some beverages and/or snacks (https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/messages/boards/thread/50879772) before continuing. \nWe’ll turn left and after 1/3 mile\, the trail dead ends again at Las Virgenes Fire Road. We’ll turn left again and travel 1.1 miles where we’ll hit another junction\, turning right back onto Las Virgenes Trail for the final 0.4 mile return\, making a left at the split right behind the facilities building. \nInteresting Notes: \nHere are a couple plants you are sure to see on this hike: \nBlack Sage \nMultiple brown buttons going up the top of the stalk\, that may have white flowers. Green leaves. Purple or white flowers that are dark brown as they dry on the plant. Squish the leaves and smell. \nA rare and sought after Black sage honey is also made from the honey of bees that pollinate the Black sage plant. Black sage is utilized in the culinary world as an aromatic and flavorful herb. It can be used in recipes wherever traditional sage is called for\, however keep in mind that foraged Black sage has a much stronger flavor than that of traditional store bought sage. \nIts flavor goes well with winter squashes\, brown butter\, poultry\, venison\, pears\, cheese\, potatoes and other herbs such as rosemary and thyme. Use fresh in a variety of different preparations or leaves. Can be dried and stored for future use as a dried herb. Black sage was used traditionally by Native Americans known as the Chumash people to form an herbal soak for the bath to be used in the treatment of bodily pain\, specifically for the feet and lower legs. \nCalifornia Sagebrush – Artemesia Californica \nAromatic when crushed. AKA\, common sage\, coastal sage. Sunflower family. Cowboys used to ride through it and brush up against the pine-shaped leaves\, coming home with the smell on their clothes and giving rise to the nickname “Cowboy Cologne.” Not a true sage. Can be used as a cooking spice and can be made into a tea. Tear off some needles by running your hand up the stalk and smell the aroma. \nAn infusion can be made for an insect repellent. \nDirections: \nTalopopJuan Bautista de Anza Park3701 Lost Hills RoadCalabasas\, CA 91301 \nFrom the 118 \nWest to CA-23 southCA-23 south for 7.4 milesUS-101 east for 9.5 milesExit 33 Lost Hills Rd.Lost Hills Rd. south for 0.2 milesPark on the right. \nFrom the 101 \nExit 33 Lost Hills Rd.Lost Hills Rd. south for 0.2 milesPark on the right. \nThe Hike: \nDistance: 4.1 miles\, 3.5 hours\, counter-clockwiseElevation Gain: 720′Distribution: Reasonably well distributed\, some of the gain on the return portion.Shape: LollipopDifficulty: Easy-IntermediatePace: 2.0 mphDuration: 3.5 hoursDogs: NoRestrooms: Yes\, at the start.Drinking Fountains: Yes\, at the start.Parking: Free in the paved lot\, or along the street..Trail: Fire Road and single track\, good condition. \nHosting \nRoute: The host knows the route.Navigation: Host memory\, enhanced by GPS navigation as needed.Hike type: Social. \nThe description includes a picture of the route. There may not always be a sweeper designated to be the last hiker. \nEach hiker is responsible for knowing their capability\, only attending events where they are able to sustain the described pace\, for keeping up with the group sufficiently enough to make the turns and not get left behind\, and for making sure the host is notified if they are going to split from the group. \nWhat to Bring:2 liters of water.Snacks and/or beverages to share (https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/messages/boards/thread/50879772).Hiking shoes preferred\, but athletic shoes will be OK.Flashlight or headlamp.Sunscreen and/or hat as needed. \nDisclaimer / Release of Liability:https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/pages/29622459/Is_Hiking_Dangerous/

SUMMARY:Limekiln Canyon Lollipop - Suitable for beginners
DESCRIPTION:4 miles\, gain: 500′\, beginner. \nThis is a beginner hike on the beautiful Limekiln trail. The hike starts at the trail head near the Tampa exit on I-118\, just 3 miles east of the Topanga Canyon exit. \nThis hike is a slight lollipop (from the shape of the route). There are no extended inclines\, however there are about 5 bumps in the trail with 25-40′ gains\, about 35-65 steps each. This is something a beginner would be able to handle\, but these bumps will get the blood pumping\, as they are like climbing up to 4 flights of stairs. There is nothing wrong with pausing for a breather while tackling these bumps in the trail. \nThe trail varies between asphalt\, gravel fire road\, single tracker\, tree covered\, hilly\, roadside\, wooded\, open air\, and strolls through the park. We’ll enter Limekiln Canyon\, where we’ll first encounter a heavily wooded park with large pine trees lining the trail and blocking out the sun. We’ll continue for about 2 miles. We’ll reach Sesnon Blvd.\, and then travel about 20 yards west and taking a different trail back into the Canyon. \nAfter several hundred yards\, we’ll return to the original trail for the return. Soon\, we’ll take a slightly different route by making a right off the trail\, but it still returns back to the original trail after a short distance. \nJust before we complete the last 3/4 mile\, we’ll turn right instead of left. After about 100 years\, we’ll find a great spot with a giant fallen tree trunk to have a social event (snack and beverage share – https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/messages/boards/thread/50879772). \nAfter about 30-60 minutes\, we’ll continue the last 3/4 mile back to our cars. Those that don’t want to stick around are welcome to head back to their cars by any route they choose\, but I’ll take a few splits to the right and cover some different trails\, each that returns back to the original trail after several hundred yards. \nThere will be a couple creek crossings on the return\, where one will use a few stepping stones to avoid getting wet. In general\, it won’t matter if you choose incorrectly from this point because all the splits end up going the same way. \nInteresting Notes: \nHere are a couple plants you are sure to see on this hike: \nCalifornia Buckwheat \nWhen the white flowers turn a rusty brown\, they can be crushed into a powder\, mixed with water\, and baked into bread. The black seeds in the flower heads are also edible. Don’t touch the white flowers if bees are around because they won’t like it and may attack. A cold tea made from the leaves has been used to treat stomachaches and headaches. A warm tea made from the roots has been used to treat colds. The stems are stiff and flexible\, so they have been used by Indians as piercing utensils. \nLaurel Sumac \nRed stems and outline along leaves. The dried flower bunches look like small trees\, and are used by model railroad builders as such\, after being dyed green. Laurel sumac is sensitive to cold and does not tolerate freezing conditions. Orange growers in the early history of southern California used to pick places to plant their oranges based on where laurel sumac was growing because this indicated it would not get too cold for oranges if laurel sumac could grow there. For some\, the sap will irritate their skin just like poison oak\, causing blisters. Also called “Taco Plant”. \nDirections: \nLimekiln Canyon TrailPorter Ranch\, CA 91326 \nFrom the 118 \nExit Tampa Ave (3 miles east of the Topanga Canyon exit) and head north for 1000′.Left (west) on Rinaldi St. for 1000′.Trailhead on the right (north).Park on either side of the street. \nFrom the 101 @ CA23 \nNorth CA-23 for 8.4 milesEast I-118 for 18 miles.Exit Tampa Ave (3 miles east of the Topanga Canyon exit) and head north for 1000′.Left (west) on Rinaldi St. for 1000′.Trailhead on the right (north).Park on either side of the street. \nThe Hike: \nDistance: 4 milesElevation Gain: 500′Difficulty: EasyPace: 2.5 mphDogs: YesRestrooms: NoDrinking Fountains: NoParking: Free on either side of the street in front of the trail head.Trail: Varied. SUMMARY:Los Padres - Easy Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:3.5 miles\, 600′ gain\, Easy Intermediate. \nA fit beginner can handle this. Because there are a couple extended inclines\, I’ve rated this at the easy end of the intermediate spectrum. That’s OK\, because this is a social hike\, not a conditioning hike. We’ll stop at various points to let people catch up. \nWe’ll start by entering the Los Padres trail\, through a spooky oak covered section\, then move through until we come to a dead end. We’ll turn right\, and continue climbing up. We’ll come to another junction\, where we’ll turn right onto the Los Robles trail. \nAfter 500 feet\, we’ll come to a split off to the right. We’ll take this split and continue along the Vista Loop until we come to a bench. Then we’ll start heading down\, and when we come to the “Giants Picnic Table”\, which I call that because its parts are super thick. \nWe’ll stop for a social event and share snacks and drinks (https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/messages/boards/thread/50879772) for 30-60 minutes\, before continuing down and around for our return. \nIf you don’t wish to stay for the entire social event\, please study the map posted as a photo with this description so you are able to navigate the remainder of this trail without the host \nHike Distance: 3.5 milesGain: 600′Distribution: Most of the incline well distributed in the first half.Difficulty (https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/messages/boards/thread/50879781): Easy Intermediate.Shape: Loop.Pace: approx. 2.0 mph.Trail Type: Fire Road\, Single-Track\, and Double-Track.Trail Variations:Several extended inclines of 1000 steps.Several steep sections of 300 steps\, but no hands required.Duration: 3.0 hoursDogs: Yes.Restrooms: NoDrinking Fountains: No.Parking: Free along street. \nWhat to bring: 1 liter of water for every 3 miles.Hiking shoes/bootsFlashlight or headlamp.Sunscreen and/or hat as needed.Snacks and/or beverages to share (https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/messages/boards/thread/50879772). \nHosting \nRoute: The host knows the route. A pic of the route has been posted as part of this description. \nNavigation: Host memory\, enhanced by GPS navigation as needed \nHike type: Social. We won’t be hiking at a fast pace because this is a social hike\, not a conditioning hike. There is nothing wrong with stopping\, even if it means every 50 steps. See “How hard is this hike” in the discussion section (LINK (https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/messages/boards/thread/50879781)). \nStops:The host may designate stopping points to let others catch up. This hike will include an extended stop for a snack and beverage (https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/messages/boards/thread/50879772) share at the half way point. We will stop at junctions to make sure everybody makes any turns or chooses the correct direction at splits\, else something will be used to mark the direction\, usually a large arrow made of baking soda. \nGroup separation: Sometimes hikers wish to move significantly ahead and not wait at designated stopping points. Please let the host know. They are on their own regarding route and navigation. \nInteresting Notes \nThese are a couple plants you are likely to see on this hike: \nYucca \nWhite flowers on stalk. Stalk is often missing\, leaving only the spires from which it grows. Stalks are very strong and light\, so they make good walking sticks. Needles on end of spires. Chopped up root can be uses as shampoo or soap. Roasted root can be eaten like a potato. Illegal to remove live stick in CA. \nPronounced with short u. Dried leaves make good tinder. To eat root\, remove skin and core\, boil 15 minutes. Then fry or bake. Flowers are mildly sweet. Adam says they taste like radishes. The fruit is also edible\, but bitter if not ripe. To access fibers: Soak for a month in water\, or\, lightly pound leaves with rock or club\, or\, scrape off skin. Roll between hands\, then pull and separate fibers. Weave into cordage. \nWild Cucumber \nToxic. Boil fruit in water to make spikes easy to remove. Inside is a natural luffa. Tubars (thickened part of a stem\, usually underground\, like the potato) can be crushed and thrown into water to immobilize fish. \nAlmost the entire plant is poisonous. Although wild cucumbers are related to the familiar\, domestic vegetable\, the prickly “cucumbers” consist not of fleshy fruit\, but of two seed chambers containing lacy netting. \nDirections \nLos Padres Trailhead15 Los Padres DriveThousand Oaks\, CA\, 91361 \nFrom I-101:West of CA-23\, I-101\, exit S. Moorpark Rd.South on Moorpark Rd. north for 1000 ft.Left on Los Padres Dr.After 200 ft\, trailhead on the right.Park on the street. \nRelease of Liability: https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/pages/29622459/Is_Hiking_Dangerous/

SUMMARY:Mt. Wilson from Sierra Madre (Eats at the Cosmic Cafe on the Summit!)
DESCRIPTION:The Stats \nDistance: 14 miles Up and back Elevation Gain/Loss: 4800 ft. \nRating: Moderate to Strenuous 8/10 \nTrail: Single track\, some fire road at the end. Upper 2/3 of the trail is shaded. \nDuration: roughly 8 or 9 hours \nWe will stop for lunch at the Cosmic Cafe Pavilion (outdoor seating only) at the summit. Eat theirs or bring your own! \nhttp://www.mtwilson.edu/cafe.php \nTrail Description \nThe Mt. Wilson Trail is a former Gabrielino Indian trail that snaked through breath-taking Little Santa Anita Canyon to the top of Mt. Wilson. White settlers in the area used the trail in the mid to late 19th century for access to the harvesting of pine and spruce higher on the slope of the canyon. Those were the days when California grizzlies were common in the San Gabriels. \nThis trail is the site of an annual 8.6 mile race from the downtown plaza of Sierra Madre to Orchard Camp and back. This race was first run in 1908 all the way to Mt. Wilson. Its modern incarnation\, begun in 1967\, is of course much shorter. \nApart from a route from Chantry Flat through Big Santa Anita Canyon \, the Mt. Wilson Trail is the most popular route to the top of Mt. Wilson. \nThe trailhead is at 970 feet elevation. \nThe Mt. Wilson Trail ascends the western slope of Little Santa Anita Canyon. Be advised that this trail is one of the steeper ones in the San Gabriel mountains. About ½ mile from the start\, you will come to a noticeable point where the trail crosses a ridge. The ridge on your right side runs down to the creek. \nAt 1.2 miles\, you will reach First Water Junction\, where you go left up the trail. \nAt about 2.75 miles from the start\, you will reach Decker Springs where you will quickly drop into the creek and just as quickly ascend. From here\, it is about 1/3 of a mile to Orchard Camp\, a nice shady rest spot if you’re so inclined. \nFrom Orchard\, it is 1.9 miles to Manzanita Ridge where you will connect with the Winter Creek Trail coming from Chantry Flat. Go left (northwest) and continue to a major junction where the trail meets the Mt. Wilson Toll Road coming up from Altadena through Eaton Canyon. Here\, the southeast ridge of Mt. Harvard meets the road and Mt. Harvard is to your left. \nAt the trail/toll road junction\, turn right and proceed up the toll road. When you come to a structure (known as Martin’s Cabin) on the left side of the road\, look immediately to your right and you will encounter the resumption of the Mt. Wilson Trail. This point is about a mile distance from the Manzanita Ridge. Proceed up the trail\, now single track again\, .75 miles to the parking lot summit of Mt. Wilson. \nNo permits are needed for hiking this trail to Mt. Wilson. Neither is an Adventure Pass required to park at the trailhead because it is not located within the Angeles National Forest. \nDirectionsThe Mt. Wilson Trail trailhead is located within the city limits of Sierra Madre. From the 210 Freeway\, exit Baldwin Ave. and go north. When you come to a traffic light where you have to go either right or left\, go left to the next light and that is Baldwin Ave. Take a right and continue up Baldwin Ave. through the downtown area of Sierra Madre. Approximately ¾’s of a mile from the downtown plaza\, take a right on Mira Monte. Go down about ½ mile and you will come to a small park on your left. Park anywhere in this area long Mira Monte. (Note: it seems that Sierra Madre police are serious about curbing your vehicle’s wheels). To get to the trail\, walk up the paved road that heads north off of Mira Monte next to the park. About ¼ of a mile up the paved road\, you will come to the signed start of the trail. \nVHC HIKE RATING SCALE \nRating a hike is subjective\, meaning the difficulty of a hike will be in direct relation to how often you hike and the type of hike you prefer. Keep in mind that any hike can have the following: un-even hiking surfaces\, various obstructions\, water and/or water crossings or bouldering and/or rock hopping. A great hike will have all of these! \n1 – A long walk \n2 – 4 mile hike w/little elevation gain \n3 – 5 mile hike w/up to1000 ft. elevation gain \n4 – 5+ mile hike w/up to1500 ft. elevation gain (heart rate increases at times) \n5 – 7+ mile hike w/over 1500 ft. elevation gain (heart rate increasing even more at times) \n6 – 7+ mile hike w/over 2000 ft. elevation gain (at times you might be trying to remember how to perform CPR) \n7 – 5+ mile hike w/over 2000 ft. elevation gain (at times you might be muttering expletives to yourself) \n8 – 10+ mile hike w/over 3500 ft. elevation gain (at times you might be angry with the hike leader) \n9 – 10+ mile hike w/over 5000 ft. elevation gain (at times you might be thinking of reporting the hike leader to the authorities) \n10 – Use your imagination \nClass 3 Scrambling: Scrambling or un-roped climbing. You must use your hands at times to hold the terrain or find your route. This may be caused by a combination of boulders\, steepness and extreme terrain. Some Class 3 routes have ropes in place for assistance. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nI am a volunteer (i.e. not liable for the group). This ain’t Utah but it’s as close as you’re going to get to it in California. \nBECAUSE THIS IS A DELICATE AREA I WANT TO KEEP THE GROUP SMALLIf you don’t get to go this time I will be doing several other trips up there. \nCheck out the photos posted on our last trip there:https://www.meetup.com/calabasasdayhikers/photos/31759253/499162034/#499162034 \nMEETUP LOCATION AND TIME:The Flying J Travel Center in Lebec at 8:00 am:https://www.google.com/maps/place/34%C2%B049’00.4%22N+118%C2%B053’10.2%22W/@34.8167674-118.8883557918m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m17!1m10!4m9!1m3!2m2!1d-119.1365275!2d34.7489344!1m3!2m2!1d-119.1584843!2d34.7287962!3e0!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d34.8167631!4d-118.8861666From here we’ll all caravan to the canyon where we will start the hike. \nEARLIER MEETUP Those out my way can meet me in Woodland Hills at 6:30 a.m. and take off from there in a car pool. SUMMARY:Rocky Peak to Tapo Canyon Preserve
DESCRIPTION:https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/tapo-canyon-trail-to-rocky-peak-trail \nHello fellow hikers\,I have been talking about this one for awhile so here we go…this will be a point to point hike I have attached the AllTrails link as this will be our meeting spot and we will be doing this hike..but.. we are gonna carpool to Rocky Peak and start it from the reverse direction so will end up at Tapo Canyon. I have done this hike the full length and it is AWESOME it has everything (except rock scrambling or off trail) you will get amazing views with your stretches of climbs up to your stretches of level off sections. All the trails separate would be rated moderate but put together you have a harder rated trail. Anyone is welcome to do any part of the sections if you want to turn back but please note we are continuing on. You can either bring a friend to drive separately or/and we can all take several cars (depending upon how many attend) out of respect we will wear mask in the car but not required on the trail. This will be a good heart up and pumping workout but not a killer more of a great feeling you did it… 🙂 I attached the AllTrails link for directions\, pics\, and stats https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/tapo-canyon-trail-to-rocky-peak-trail \nTrail point to pointMiles 14.7Elevation Gain 3021 ftRated hardDogs allowed BUT must be conditioned for a longer harder hike \nWe will always follow Jim’s Golden Rules:1) Hike your own hike2) Please stop at every junction and split to wait for others to catch up \nPlease remember to bring all essentials you’ll need for a hike (a lot of water on this one) \nAnd last….The Organizer\, Co Organizer\, Assistant Organizers and Event hosts in this group are not professional guides. The function of the organizer is only to organize the trip. Each person who signs up for a Event is responsible for his or her own safety and the safety of his or her guess

SUMMARY:Hike with Beach Party and Fire
DESCRIPTION:Note: GPS in the past has taken people to the incorrect location. Please read the written directions to verify. \n2.7 miles\, 650′ gain. \nA hike\, then a potluck party on the beach with a fire. Come for the hike\, the beach party\, or both! \nPlease post in the comments if you will bring a fire wood bundle as your pot luck item. \nFirewood (so far): Jim \nThis hike is on the easy end of the intermediate spectrum (https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/messages/boards/thread/50879781)\, based on distance and elevation. Beginners are welcome\, but if it gets too hard\, they can always turn around and go back the way we came. Nearly all of the elevation gain is in the first half. \nThis is not a conditioning hike. It is a social hike. The event host will be moving slowly and stopping at various points to let people catch up. Those that wish to move ahead at a faster pace\, are welcome to do so if they know the route\, but are on their own regarding navigation. \nThe Hike. 2 – 3:30p.We meet at the Sycamore Canyon Trail head inside of Sycamore Canyon Campground at Point Magu State Park. This is a counter-clockwise loop hike because of the shape of the route. \nWe’ll head up the trail for about a half mile\, where there will not be much elevation gain. We’ll make a left onto the Overlook Trail. We’ll then start our ascent\, climbing 400′ over the next mile\, where we’ll come to a junction. We’ll turn left and instead of following the scenic trail\, we’ll go along the ridge for about a half a mile. This segment will be about 200′ of loss and 100′ of gain. \nThen follow our tracks back to the scenic trail\, turn right\, and follow it down for about 3/4 mile\, again reaching Big Sycamore Canyon Trail\, and turning right back to our starting point. \nThe Beach Party. 4:00 – 8:00p.We’ll go back to our cars and gather up our things for the beach party. From the trail head\, it’s about 1/4 mile to the camp ground parking lot\, then another 1/4 mile to the beach party area across the road at Sycamore Cove Beach. There are picnic tables and fire pits\, but we must supply our own wood to burn. \nThe fire pits on the beach are first come\, first serve. We have members that have volunteered to arrive early in the morning to secure a fire pit. \nPlease bring something warm to put on. It can get cool and windy near the beach\, especially as the sun drops. A chair and blanket recommended. \nSunset: 6:52p. \nPrior beach parties and photos:https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/events/247433528/https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/events/250077800/https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/events/263940005/ \nHike \nDistance: 2.7 milesGain: 650Distribution: All the incline is in the first half.Difficulty: Beginner end of intermediate spectrum.Shape: Counter-Clockwise upside-down lollipopPace: approx. 2.0 mph.Trail Type: Fire road\, double track\, and single track.Duration: 1.5 hours (hike)\, 4 hours (beach party)Dogs: No.Restrooms: YesDrinking Fountains: Yes. \nParking: Paved in the campground lot\, $14\, gates close at 10p. Gravel beach lot\, $9 (you need your license plate #\, pay “Iron Ranger” machine upon entry). Prices may have gone up since I was last there. If the lots are full\, there is plenty of parking along the west end of PCH\, but you may have to walk 1/4 mile or so. \nParking space is limited\, so please car-pool and arrive early in case you have parking issues. The lot along the beach closes at sunset and rangers announce this to beach goers\, giving plenty of time to move your cars. Some may find free parking along the street when it closes\, else what you paid for the beach lot also covers the campground lot parking cost\, across the street. \nWhat to bring: 1 liter of water for every 3 miles.Hiking shoes/boots. Not required\, but recommended.Sunscreen and/or hat as needed.Food and drink to share for the beach pot luck. \nHosting \nRoute: A pic is posted as part of this description.Navigation: Host memory and GPS navigation as needed. \nHike type: Social. We won’t be hiking at a fast pace because this is a social hike\, not a conditioning hike. There is nothing wrong with stopping\, even if it means every 50 steps. \nGroup separation: Hikers moving significantly ahead or that don’t wait at designated stopping points are on their own regarding route and navigation. \nDirections: \nSycamore Canyon TrailheadMalibu\, CA 90265Coordinates of trailhead: 34.074747\, -119.014081Inside Sycamore Canyon Campground\, across from Pt. SUMMARY:Gabrielino Trail ~ Sunday Stroll to Carmen's Waterfall
DESCRIPTION:We hiked the Gabrielino Trail a few years ago when Carmen noticed a waterfall just off trail. We went in search of the base of the falls last year and were not disappointed. It was quite a pleasant spot to take our lunch break. There should be even more water flowing after the recent rain. \nThis is a beautiful canyon and the fall colors should be putting on a show right about now. Hike will be at a moderate pace – not in any hurry and want to enjoy the scenery. Bring warm layers. The shaded canyon will be cool.*Note – Sunday is Halloween so double-check your plans before signing up. \nSTATS \nDistance: 10-11 miles \nRating: 5/10 \nElevation gain: >1500 feet \nThe Trail: Canyon trail\, out and back\, uneven footing\, possible bushwhacking \nParking Pass: Not Required \nThe Plan: \nWe will meet where Gould Mesa road meets the Angeles Crest Highway. The plan is to hike up the canyon five to six miles\, take an early lunch break at the waterfall\, then head back the way we came. The canyon is nicely shaded with big beautiful trees and some rock hopping across the Arroyo Seco. The last mile back to cars climbs 500 feet on a paved road. \nLarge swaths of the trail were destroyed by the 2009 Station Fire and subsequent El Niño storms. Sections that survived had suffered years of erosion and lack of use or maintenance. It was virtually impassable due to hundreds of downed trees\, rock slides\, heavy sloughing and failed support structures. In the years shortly after the fire\, a few people who ignored the closure order ended up lost and needing rescue. \nDirections: \nFrom the 210 Freeway take exit 20\, Angeles Crest Hwy (CA-2) towards the mountains. In about 2 miles and shortly past Bay Tree Rd (on the left) you will see parking on the right. Free parking is here. \n**************************************************** \nThe Fine Print \nPLEASE – Know your limits and abilities. Bring snacks and drink plenty of liquids when hiking. Check weather conditions and dress accordingly and be aware of your surroundings at all times. Watching out for poison oak\, snakes\, ticks\, uneven footing\, spectacular views\, beautiful fauna all while interacting with awesome (usually) fellow hikers can be extremely hazardous\, rewarding and fun. \nThe Farzan Rule: Posted hike times are the time the hike starts or we leave from a posted shuttle location. I’m aware other Meetup groups offer a grace period for late arrivals; we don’t. It’s your responsibility to know the location of the meeting spot and be there and ready to participate at the posted time. If you have any concerns about the directions feel free to contact the organizer of the event\, preferably in advance of the event and not at the start time. I’m of the opinion that it’s not fair to delay an event when the majority of attendees have arrived on-time. (so named after a conversation I had with a certain un-named member) \nRSVP’s: If you RSVP for an event be responsible and update your RSVP if your plans change. If your plans change at the last second and you’re not able to update your RSVP also let us know. In my opinion a no-show is someone who has no regard for following the guidelines we request from our members and will risk being removed from future events that have a limit. \n**************************************************** \nVHC HIKE RATING SCALE \nRating a hike is subjective\, meaning the difficulty of a hike will be in direct relation to how often you hike and the type of hike you prefer. Keep in mind that any hike can have the following: un-even hiking surfaces\, various obstructions\, water and/or water crossings or bouldering and/or rock hopping. A great hike will have all of these! \n1 – A long walk \n2 – 4 mile hike w/little elevation gain \n3 – 5 mile hike w/up to 1000 ft. elevation gain \n4 – 5+ mile hike w/up to 1500 ft. elevation gain (heart rate increases at times) \n5 – 7+ mile hike w/over 1500 ft. elevation gain (heart rate increasing even more at times) \n6 – 7+ mile hike w/over 2000 ft. elevation gain (at times you might be trying to remember how to perform CPR) \n7 – 5+ mile hike w/over 2000 ft. elevation gain (at times you might be muttering expletives to yourself) \n8 – 10+ mile hike w/over 3500 ft. elevation gain (at times you might be angry with the hike leader) \n9 – 10+ mile hike w/over 5000 ft. elevation gain (at times you might be thinking of reporting the hike leader to the authorities) \n10 – Use your imagination \nClass 3 Scrambling: Scrambling or un-roped climbing. Safety is a priority for everyone in the group. Think of this as hiking with a group of friends. \nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. By participating in any posted event\, you’re taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Valencia Hiking Crew Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions. If you choose to sign up for any Valencia Hiking Crew Meetup events\, you are releasing the Valencia Hiking Crew Meetup Group and it’s organizers from all liability in case of possible injuries as stated in paragraph 6.2 of the Meetup “Terms of Service” located on the bottom of the Meetup website. Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience. \n******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

SUMMARY:THE HAUNTED DEVIL'S GATE and COLORADO STREET BRIDGE via the ARROYO SECO TRAIL
DESCRIPTION:Once again on Halloween we’ll follow the Lower Arroyo Seco Canyon via the Arroyo Seco Trail and visit a couple of haunted landmarks (The Colorado Street Bridge and The Devil’s Gate Reservoir). So\, as an option\, get into the Halloween spirit by wearing your favorite costume for photo ops. I’ll put on a Warlock outfit at these two sites. Every Warlock needs his Witches and Sirens\, so I hope to conjure up a brew of them.Along the way\, we’ll be visiting two landmarks which are said to be haunted. It wouldn’t be good for CDH’s reputation to lose a member or two along the way\, so please stay together since\, against better judgement\, I am visiting the two ghostly sites in the dark.https://www.alltrails.com/explore/map/arroyo-seco-halloeen-hike-46c67be \nCOLORADO STREET BRIDGE – BUILT 1912: Along with over 100 suicides\, of course\, came the ghosts. Several spirits haunt the bridge\, including a man with wire rimmed glasses and a vanishing woman in a long flowing robe. She is often seen standing atop one of the parapets\, vanishing as she throws herself off. Even below the bridge\, ghosts are said to walk the river bed. Strange sounds and cries echo throughout the dark nights. Misty forms have been reported and animals act strange in the area. Homeless camping under the bridge have regularly reported seeing ghostly figures and hearing mysterious noises. A haunt wandering under the bridge whispers “her fault” to anyone he runs across\, although no one knows who he means.http://www.weirdca.com/location.php?location=57 \nDEVIL’S GATE – BUILT 1920Some people believe the rituals Parsons led in the area opened a portal to Hell and made the area a magnet for all kinds of dark activity.https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/southern-california/devils-gate-ca/ \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RgUz30AjIc \nTRAILHEAD MEETUP LOCATION AND TIME: We’ll all meet on Arroyo Terrace at 4:00 p.m.https://www.google.com/maps/place/34%C2%B008’58.3%22N+118%C2%B009’52.3%22W/@34.1495239\,-118.166468\,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x0:0x0!2zMzTCsDA4JzI1LjAiTiAxMTjCsDEwJzAyLjMiVw!3b1!8m2!3d34.140285!4d-118.1673!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d34.1495201!4d-118.1645378 \nRESTROOM: Yes\, at the Rose Bowl shortly after the hike begins. \nLEVEL: Intermediate \nDISTANCE: 7.5+ miles \nGAIN/LOSS: 600’/600′ \nTERRAIN: Mostly single track trail. SUMMARY:🎃💀12th Annual Chatsworth Halloween Hike ☠ Night Version 👻
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We’ve been doing this one in Chatsworth/Twin Lakes since 2009. It’s the scariest hike this side of Transylvania! \nDue to ongoing development in the area our exact path is unknown at this time\, but I estimate it to be about 3 miles with 700′ elevation gain. I will have more accurate figures after pre-scouting the area. \nThe decorations are a little worn and I don’t know if the solar lights are still working\, but it will be a fun hike. There is a nice spot where we can share some drinks and small bites — so bring the “good stuff” \nAnd remember NO WHITE LIGHTS – red or green only. There is still time to order one of these headlamps – one uses batteries\, the other is rechargeable. Both are red/green/white. \n\n\n\n\n23% savings\n\nEverBrite Headlamp - 300 Lumens Headlight with Red...$17.99 $13.91\n View on Amazon\n\n\n13% savings\n\nEverBrite Rechargeable Headlamp - 350 Lumens Headl...$15.98 $13.90\n View on Amazon\n\n\nCostumes are optional: https://amzn.to/2n5iZyX \nHere are some photos from last year: \nhttps://hwdmedia.s3.us-west-1.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/03115251/Halloween.mp4\n[vc_message message_box_color=”warning”]HIKE IS ABOUT 5 MILES WITH ABOUT 1000 FT TOTAL ASCENT AND IS RATED MEDIUM DUE. SEE THE HIKE RATING GUIDE[/vc_message] \nDIRECTIONS\nOur parking and meetup spot is on a new-homes construction site. The streets are paved and the lots are marked\, but there are no homes built yet. Its easy to get to\, however\, some of the streets are so new\, they are not on some maps (or GPS) yet\, so pay attention to these directions! \n21600 Poema Pl is an address 1/4 mile east the parking area. The Meetup map works on Android (Google maps) and takes you to parking area via Canoga Ave. \nIf you are using iPhone or car GPS\, you may need the following directions\, or type in the coordinates 34.279504\, -118.600623 \n🚗From Canoga Ave – go north on Canoga Ave past the 118. Bear right and enter the Deerlake Ranch development; head uphill and make a left on Poema Pl. Go past the 21600 address\, cross the bridge (that will be the 2nd bridge you cross)\, then turn right into the construction site for Crestley/Landsea Homes. Park in cul de sac to the right \n🚙From Topanga Cyn Blvd – go north on Topanga past the 118. Turn right on Poema Pl\, but don’t go all the way to 21600. Before the bridge turn left into Crestley/Landsea Homes construction site. Park in cul de sac on right. \n \nTrail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need. \nTrail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly. \nThe Organizers and members in this group are not professional leaders\, guides\, or mountaineers. The function of the member or organizer is only to organize the trip. Each person who shows up for a trip/meetup (and their guest or guests) is responsible for his or her own safety. By attending a hike\, or any other event organized by this group\, you are acknowledging that you and any guests that you bring are aware of the risks\, dangers and hazards associated with the activity and freely accept and fully assume all such risks\, dangers and hazards\, and further agree to release and discharge the Organizers\, Members of the Hiking With Dean Meetup Group from and against any and all liability arising from your participation in the group activities per the ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND LIABILITY WAIVER.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Mt. McCoy - Fit Beginner
DESCRIPTION:3 miles\, 700′ gain\, fit-beginner.This is one of the classic hikes in Simi Valley. \nWe’ll meet in the parking lot at the northeast corner of Madera and Royal\, just south of the Donut Delite\, on the east side of the Clinicas office. We’ll walk from there to the trailhead at 2 Washburn St. where it meets Los Amigos Ave. \nThe Hike: \nWe cross Madera and continue through the neighborhood for about 1500′\, to the intersection of Washburn St. and Los Amigos Ave (https://www.google.com/maps/place/2+Washburn+St\,+Simi+Valley\,+CA+93065/@34.2645734\,-118.8010877\,18z/data=%213m1%214b1%214m5%213m4%211s0x80e82ee581e79e9f:0x42c324cfa0d16fd2%218m2%213d34.2645585%214d-118.7999842). Then we enter a path behind the houses and proceed for 250′ to the entrance. So far\, there will have been very little elevation gain. \nWe’ll enter a series of switchbacks (zig-zag trail) for 1.2 miles to a large cross at the top. This is a steady climb across the face of the hill\, always in full view of the neighborhood below. Beginners may find this climb difficult to continue at a fast pace. There is nothing wrong with slowing down while faster hikers move ahead\, or resting for a minute several times during this climb. \nIt may seem easy to get lost because there are many different cross-paths up the face of this hill\, but they all lead to the same place. Generally\, whenever there is a choice of “left or right”\, we take the easier and more worn path. If you happen to find yourself alone and take a wrong turn (aka steep cut)\, all paths lead up. \nIf you think this hike is too easy\, try running it. The entire hike is an incline and many beginners have declared this hike to be a butt burner. \nAt the top by the cross\, we’ll enjoy the gorgeous 360 degree views and share beverages and/or snacks (https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/messages/boards/thread/50879772). \nInteresting Notes \nHere are a couple plants you are sure to see on this hike: \nBlack Sage \nMultiple brown buttons going up the top of the stalk\, that may have white flowers. \nPurple Sage \nGrey-green leaves. Aromatic when crushed. Purple flowers. Aka\, Tobacco Sage\, with mild hallucinogenic properties when smoked. Can be used as a spice or made into a tea. Tea has medicinal affects: Antiviral\, gargle for sore throats\, reduce hay fever symptoms and other drying actions. \nThe route is posted as a photo for this event. \nDistance: 3 miles (round trip)Elevation Gain: 700′Difficulty: Fit Beginner (https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/messages/boards/thread/50879781)Duration: 3 hoursPace: 2.0 mphDogs: Yes.Restrooms: Yes – at nearby places of businessDrinking Fountains: Yes – at nearby places of businessParking: FreeTrail: Mostly single-track\, excellent conditionWhat to Bring: 1 liter of water.Hiking shoes preferred\, but athletic shoes will be OK.Drinks or snacks to share (https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/messages/boards/thread/50879772).Flashlight or headlamp. \nDisclaimer / Release of Liabilityhttps://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/pages/29622459/Is_Hiking_Dangerous/

SUMMARY:Hill Canyon - Hawk Lollipop - Easy Intermediate\, beginner option
DESCRIPTION:5.3 miles\, 600′ gain\, Easy-Intermediate2 miles\, 100′ gain\, Beginner \nWe start by crossing a bridge into a wooded area and continue down a relatively flat path alongside a stream. After about a mile\, we’ll come to a junction. \nFor those that want the full hike\, we’ll turn right and complete a 3 mile loop with 500′ of gain\, stopping just before the end of the loop for a social event at the picnic table on the left. \nThe social event that will last 60 minutes\, sharing snacks and beverages (https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/messages/boards/thread/50879772). \nFor those that want to keep it beginner\, pass the junction and continue for 1/4 mile and no gain. That same picnic table will be on the right. \nFor the return\, we continue the loop for 1/4 mile\, then a relatively flat walk back for about a mile. \nHike Distance: 5.3 milesGain: 600′Distribution: Most of the incline is concentrated in the second quarter.Difficulty (https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/messages/boards/thread/50879781): Easy Intermediate.Shape: Lollipop.Pace: approx. 2.0 mph.Trail Type: Fire road.Trail Variations: The first mile is flat. All of the trail is well groomed and not rugged.Duration: 3.5 hoursDogs: Yes.Restrooms: Yes\, at trailheadDrinking Fountains: No.Parking: Free in lot next to trail head. \nWhat to bring:1 liter of water for every 3 miles.Hiking shoes/boots. Not required\, but recommended.Flashlight or headlamp.Sunscreen and/or hat as needed.Snacks and/or beverages to share (https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/messages/boards/thread/50879772). \nHosting \nRoute: The host knows the route. The route is posted as a photo with this description. \nNavigation: Host memory\, enhanced by GPS navigation as needed. \nHike type: Social. We won’t be hiking at a fast pace because this is a social hike\, not a conditioning hike. There is nothing wrong with stopping\, even if it means every 50 steps. \nInteresting Notes \nHere are a couple plants you are sure to see on this hike: \nWild Oats \nThe mature seed of the plant is used as a cereal grain. All oats have edible seeds\, although they are small and hard to harvest in most species. Oats are hard to tell apart from weedy relatives\, so the term “sowing wild oats” came to be used to describe unprofitable activities and destructive sexual liaisons of an unmarried young male that could result in children being born out of wedlock. \nRed Brome \nGrass like with thorny appearing tops. A sub-species of foxtail chess. Can lead to flash fires. Winter fires don’t kill the seeds. \nDirections: \nHill Canyon Trailhead10241 Hill Canyon Road (address is before trailhead\, continue to gravel lot on left)Santa Rosa Valley\, CA 93012Coordinates of trailhead: 34.226495\, -118.930374 \nFrom CA-118:CA-118 west to CA-23 south.Exit 19 Tierra Rejada Rd.\, turn right (west) for 0.5 milesLeft (south) on Moorpark Rd. for 1.4 miles.Right on Santa Rosa Rd. for 3.7 miles.Left on Hill Canyon Rd. for 0.6 miles.Parking in gravel lot on left. \nFrom CA-101 (from Camarillo and farther west):Exit Santa Rosa Rd. north for 4.9 miles.Turn right (south) on Hill Canyon Rd. for 0.6 miles.Parking in gravel lot on left. \nFrom CA-23 and CA-101 (from Thousand Oaks):North on CA-12 for 3.1 miles.Exit 16 Sunset Hills Blvd. and left (west) for 0.9 miles.Left (west) on E. SUMMARY:Mill Creek Summit to Mt. Pacifico and Return
DESCRIPTION:Hike to Mt. Pacifico via the PCT from the Mill Creek Summit Ranger Station at the crest of the Angeles Forest Hwy and return. The top of Mt. Pacifico has very nice picnic tables and is a frequent destination for campers. \nThere is LOTS of exposure on this hike\, so be prepared for lots of sun.Mt. Pacifico itself is beautiful and in the trees. \nA word of caution\, Mt. Pacifico lies just west of the western edge of the Bobcat fire closure. I don’t believe the camp or the route has been affected. \nBring snacks for the summit and trail. \nStats: \nDistance: 13 miles \nElevation Gain: 2\,400 ft. \nMax elevation : 7\,103 ft. \nRating: 7/10 Somewhat strenuous \nTrail: Mostly single track and a bit of graded forest service road. \nESSENTIALS: \n2 Liters of water (Minimum) \nSunscreen \nHat \nSnacks \nHiking Poles (Recommended) \nLayered clothing (can be windy & chilly at the summit) \nCheck the Weatherhttps://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-118.04616458004175&lat=34.38350843275154 \nPLEASE – Know your limits and abilities. Bring and drink plenty of liquids when hiking. Check weather conditions and dress accordingly and be aware of your surroundings at all times. Watching out for snakes\, ticks\, uneven footing\, spectacular views\, beautiful fauna all while carrying on a conversation with awesome (usually) fellow hikers can be extremely hazardous\, rewarding and fun. \n******************************************************************* \nVHC HIKE RATING SCALE \nRating a hike is subjective\, meaning the difficulty of a hike will be in direct relation to how often you hike and the type of hike you prefer. Safety is a priority for everyone in the group. Think of this as hiking with a group of friends. \nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. DESCRIPTION:BEFORE YOU WILL BE MOVED TO THE GOING LIST\, YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR CDH PROFILE (The three questions must be answered with a “yes”) IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO.NEED HELP:go to: https://wp.me/P9MbG4-hC \nHave you looked at our past events into the RAZORBACK ridge area of the Los Padres National Forest and wished you were able to enjoy this area but missed out. Well\, I’ll now be posting a series of events for all our CDH members to enjoy this area below pinyon pine covered ridges. We’ll start off with the easier hikes and work up to exploratory ones. I’ll number these so that you’ll be able to identify which ones you have done. As in Bryce Canyon\, there are many canyons\, but unlike Bryce where you have to stay on the trails\, this area has but one trail. the rest of the events will be x-country routes. All our events will first have us meet at the Flying J Travel Center in Lebec and car pool from there to our destinations about 30 minutes away. \n======================= RAZORBACKS #1 ============================== \nThis first area of the Razorbacks is where I was first introduced to these spectacular weather created rock sculptures in the Los Padres National Forest while on a Cub Scout outing at Camp Three Falls over 25 years ago with my son. Access will be via a 4+ mile 500′ gain round trip trail starting at 5500′ and reaching our viewing destination at 6000′. \nMEETUP LOCATION AND TIME:The Flying J Travel Center in Lebec at 8:00 am:https://www.google.com/maps/place/34%C2%B049’00.4%22N+118%C2%B053’10.2%22W/@34.8167674\,-118.8883557\,918m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m17!1m10!4m9!1m3!2m2!1d-119.1365275!2d34.7489344!1m3!2m2!1d-119.1584843!2d34.7287962!3e0!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d34.8167631!4d-118.8861666From here we’ll caravan to the Three Falls Boy Scout Camp where we will start the hike. \nDISTANCE: 4+ miles \nROUTE: Double and single track trails to the ridgeline overlooking THE BOWL. \nELEVATION GAIN/LOSS: 500’+/500’+ \nTHE PACE: No faster than the slowest Trekker \nDURATION: I’d like to get back to the cars no later than 2:00 p.m. It’s a short hike and a long drive\, but the views are well worth it. We’ll spend a lot of time soaking in the views before heading back down. This event is perfect for our WW (Walking Wounded) members. \nLUNCH OPTION: After the hike\, as an option\, those interested can join me for a late lunch The Falcon Nest in Frazier Park. \nLEVEL: Advanced beginner \nMY CELL# IS 805-358-5972 \nNO DOGS ALLOWED

SUMMARY:Historic Hike to the Calabasas Stairs
DESCRIPTION:A loop hike filled with local history and a set of stairs. What more can you ask for? Our hike will begin at the west end of Calabasas Rd where “The Trail Between Two Valleys” was dedicated in 2005 \nThis is the path the Juan Bautista De Anza party took in 1776 connecting the San Fernando Valley and Las Virgenes Valley while establishing missions along the way from Mexico to San Francisco. \n\n\n 20%	\n \n \n \n \n TheFitLife Carbon Fiber Trekking Poles – Collapsible and Telescopic Walking Stic... \n \n $50.68 $40.54 (As of: 2025/08/28 5:00 pm - Details)\n View on Amazon \n \n \n \n\n ×Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on https://www.amazon.com/ at the time of purchase will apply to the purchase of this product.\nOne of the attractions along this trail is a more than 100-year old section of US 101\, known at the time as Ventura Rd aka El Camino Real. Here are a couple of sections from when the road was widened in 1924. I shot the first on 8/2006. Fellow member Bruce cleaned up the area about 8 years ago and revealed the contractor’s name \n[vc_media_grid style=”lazy” element_width=”6″ item=”mediaGrid_ScaleInWithIcon” grid_id=”vc_gid:1636135955940-ecfa2dbe-08b4-3″ include=”99612\,99611″] \nWe’ll then connect to the Anza Loop Trail and into Calabash Canyon where we’ll come across some interesting artifacts. This pair of photos is from 8/2006 when I first explored the area. The trail was once an active jeep road. \n[vc_media_grid style=”lazy” element_width=”6″ item=”mediaGrid_ScaleInWithIcon” grid_id=”vc_gid:1636134706146-b1d765a0-a2a7-9″ include=”99617\,99616″] \nAfter some switchbacks\, grassy hillsides and wooded canyons we’ll make a side trip to the Calabasas Stairs\, a straight up-and-down shot rising a total of 375 steps. The stairs are a tenth of a mile long and climb 185 feet of elevation. \nBut before we get to the stairs we’ll need to climb an old set of steps (photo is from 2/2020) \n[vc_media_grid element_width=”6″ item=”mediaGrid_ScaleInWithIcon” grid_id=”vc_gid:1636135955941-8d3361a2-80ba-6″ include=”99628\,99627″] \nWe will then return to the cars along sloping grasslands. \n[vc_message message_box_color=”warning”]HIKE IS ABOUT 5 MILES WITH ABOUT 1\,400 FT TOTAL ASCENT AND IS RATED MEDIUM. SEE THE HIKE RATING GUIDE[/vc_message] \nDirections\nDrive to the western end of Calabasas Rd and park in cul-de-sac
