SUMMARY:🎫VIP Hike in Sycamore Canyon - 😋Potluck Party
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”Scroll Down to RSVP” style=”custom” custom_background=”#ffffff” custom_text=”#1c9ec5″ shape=”square” link=”url:%23rsvp”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nDetails\nThis hike will climax with a rare and stunning ocean vista\, including almost a straight down view of white\, foamy surf and turquoise-tinted shallows. \nOur hike will begin in Big Sycamore Canyon\, the finest example of a sycamore savanna in the State Park system. Some of the gangly sycamores soar to heights of over 80 feet. After a pleasant 3 miles we’ll turn up the Woods Canyon Vista Trail (a segment of the Backbone Trail)\, our only major ascent during the hike. We’ll climb steadily for the next two miles\, making long\, looping switchbacks. As we climb higher\, we’ll get a nice view not only of Big Sycamore Canyon and Boney Mountain. When we reach the Overlook Fire Road we’ll take a break and enjoy views of La Jolla Valley. We’ll head south on the Overlook Fire Road\, which follows the ridge that divides Big Sycamore Canyon and La Jolla Canyon. Keep your eyes peeled for Anacapa Island\, visible between two hills. \nAfter a couple of miles on the Overlook Trail we’ll hit the Scenic Trail and traverse the ridge above the Great Sand Dune to a prominence and a picnic bench where we can look down the sand dune.. \n[vc_message message_box_color=”warning”]HIKE IS ABOUT 9 MILES WITH ABOUT 1300 FT TOTAL ASCENT AND IS RATED MEDIUM+.  SEE THE HIKE RATING GUIDE[/vc_message] \nDirections:\nTake PCH to Sycamore Canyon Rd. Sycamore Canyon Rd is 19 miles north/west of Malibu Canyon Rd. Its 5.9 miles south/east of Las Posas (you will pass by La Jolla Canyon). Turn into Sycamore Canyon toward campground and go to Kiosk. Pay for day use\, or check out a Park Pass at local librry. Parking was $12 last time I was there. Credit cards OK (but bring exact change just in case). We’ll be meeting in the main lot near kiosk There is additional pay parking on the beach side of PCH.\n \nPot Luck/Camp Site\nI have a campsite reserved. After hike we will move to campsite. Check in time is 2pm so I will be returning to parking lot for car. You can load up your food\, drink\, etc items in my car if you wish. I’ll supply a grill\, stove\, plates\, cups\, etc. We are at campsite #10 next to trailhead. I’ll be camping there but you can just hang out however long you wish.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_id=”rsvp”][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nRSVP Here\n[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_js]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[/vc_raw_js][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Digital Nav: Find\, create\, import\, export\, GPX maps and tracks.
DESCRIPTION:If you’re a hiker or backpacker\, you’re probably familiar with Alltrails and maybe you even record your own tracks on Garmin or Strava. \nHere’s where we take it to the next level: \nCome learn how to create your own maps\, learn about off the beaten path hikes\, understand terrain\, beta\, routs\, and get precise weather for the wilderness locations you’ll visit. \nFind and import tacks\, create maps and export or share tracks to your mobile device or with friends. \nWe’ll focus on Caltopo and Gaia. Bring your laptop\, tablet\, or preferred device to follow along. \nWTC alumni likely learned some of these skills already but area welcome to join for a refresher crash course.

SUMMARY:Hill Canyon starting at Santa Rosa Regional Park
DESCRIPTION:This is a second hike for Thursday and we will start at 8:00. It is going to be hot\, but Camarillo often has a little cloud cover early in the morning. If we are done by 10:00 it will not have hit 80 degrees yet! We will start this hike at Santa Rosa Regional Park at the parking area in Hill Canyon\, cross the bridge over the runoff creek\, and stroll a mile before turning onto the fire road up the Western Plateau. We will continue straight at the crest of the fire road and then turn left on the Plateau Rim loop and finally descend down the Hawk Canyon Trail. There are a lot of trees on the Hawk Canyon trail. The Hawk Canyon Trail connects to Western Plateau Trail back to the parking lot. This is approximately 6 miles with an elevation gain of approximately 1000 feet.\nDirections: \nFrom Moorpark Road in the Santa Rosa Valley\, drive west on Santa Rosa Road for 3.7 miles\, turn left (south) on Hill Canyon Road for about 0.6 miles to the parking lot. \nFrom the 101 Freeway in Camarillo\, take exit 52 onto Santa Rosa Road and drive northeast. After 5 miles\, turn right onto Hill Canyon Road for about 0.6 miles to the parking lot. \nPlease review the guidelines (link to the guidelines) to join our hikes. \nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nPlease do not show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nNo dogs.\nNo “Plus Ones” Weekday Trailblazer hikes.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals. \nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. SUMMARY:Avoiding the Heat at Ray Miller Trail ~ Gentler 5.3 miles 1000' 8am Start
DESCRIPTION:Although even the Malibu coast is forecast to be in the high 80s by late afternoon\, we’ll avoid this and even warmer inland temperatures by starting early. We’ll hike up to the Overlook Trail fire road and back\, for a total of 5.3 miles and 1000′ of elevation gain and loss. \n\nThere is currently a Red Flag Warning for mountains and canyons in Ventura County for Thursday. I will check wind direction on Thursday morning; please check to see if the hike has been cancelled before driving to the trailhead. \n\nThe trail is an awesome blend of ocean and mountain views in Malibu’s La Jolla Canyon. We will start from the trailhead which follows the canyon eastward\, away from the ocean. Then\, it quickly brings you back toward the ocean at a gradual incline. There’s a great lookout spot where it gives you a breathtaking view of the Pacific Coast Highway against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean\, with sweeping views toward Mugu Rock on the west and Sycamore Cove on the east. After another peak\, you’ll start a slight decline that brings you to the Overlook Trail fire road where we will turn around. Along the way\, we’ll be treated to magnificent sweeping views of La Jolla and Big Sycamore Canyons\, and of course\, the largest ocean in the world. On a clear day\, the Channel Islands are easily within sight\, although the marine layer has been pretty prominent this summer. \nThis is a 5-6 mile out and back hike with an elevation gain/loss of about 1000’. \nDirections: \nFrom Los Angeles\, take the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) north\, 22 miles from Malibu Canyon Rd. Across the street from Thornhill Broome Beach is the entrance to La Jolla Canyon. It is very clearly marked. Turn right. \nFrom Ventura\, take PCH eastward\, and turn left 4 miles after Las Posas Road into La Jolla Canyon. \nHeads up: There is a parking fee in the lot (or free with state parking pass). There is free parking on PCH just a short walk to the trailhead. \nPlease review the guidelines to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike at a moderate pace.\nBring water\, especially on this very hot day.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Long Canyon - Upside down lollipop
DESCRIPTION:Easy Intermediate\, 4 miles\, 900′ gain\nThe address given\, is not the address of the hike. It is a nearby address that may cause your GPS to drive past the trailhead. \nThis is an upside down lollipop that takes us first to the highest point in the area where the views are fantastic. The return is down around the back side of the hill at the parking lot. \nThere is an initial climb for about 2/3 miles and 425′ of gain that can be strenuous for many if done non-stop\, and there is one other strenuous climb of just under 1/2 mile and 225′ of gain up a fire road. All the rest of the portions of this hike are down or have mild climbs. \nStarting from the Long Canyon trailhead parking lot\, we head up Long Canyon Trail to a bench. We’ll regroup and let others catch up\,then continue on past the five-points intersection and up to the next bench. We’ll take in the views and have a social event for 30-60 minutes. \nWe’ll head back to the first bench. Those that just want to get back to their cars ASAP can take the right trail down to the lot. The rest will continue up the Sunrise trail and follow it all the way to the Woodridge Loop trail at the top of an asphalt path. \nWe’ll take a “sometimes not easy to see” entrance on the right\, getting on the Woodridge Connector and take it back to the parking lot. \nInteresting Notes: \nTurkey Mullein\nSmashed leaves can be thrown into the water to stupify fish\, causing them to float to the surface\, a practice illegal in most states. The seeds are not toxic to birds and are enjoyed especially by doves and wild turkeys. \nAncient Greeks rolled and dried the leaves\, then used them as wicks for oil lamps. It stalks were used as torches burned at funerals. Many tribes employed the use of mullein leaf tea for coughs\, colds\, and rheumatism. They considered it to be analgesic\, anti-inflammatory\, antispasmodic\, and expectorant. The astringent and demulcent properties of the leaf tea were found useful in cases of diarrhea. \nWild Oats\nThe mature seed of the plant is used as a cereal grain. All oats have edible seeds\, although they are small and hard to harvest in most species. Oats are hard to tell apart from weedy relatives\, so the term “sowing wild oats” came to be used to describe unprofitable activities and destructive sexual liaisons of an unmarried young male that could result in children being born out of wedlock. \nHike\nDistance: 4 miles\nGain: 900\nDistribution: Most of the incline is in the first 15 minutes of the hike. The second strenuous climb is up a fire road\, after 1000 more steps\, going up another 0.4 miles.\nDifficulty: Easy Intermediate\nShape: Upside down lollipop\, clockwise.\nPace: 2.0 mph.\nTrail Type: Fire road\, single and double track. Areas of sand\, gravel\, and rock\, some of it rugged.\nTrail Variations: The beginning is a tough climb.\nDuration: 3.5 hours\nDogs: Yes.\nRestrooms: No\nDrinking Fountains: No.\nParking: Free in the paved parking area in front of the trail head. \nWhat to bring\n1 liter of water for every 3 miles.\nSnacks and/or beverages to share\nHiking shoes preferred\, but athletic shoes will be OK.\nFlashlight or headlamp. \nHosting\nRoute: The host knows the route.\nNavigation: Host memory\, enhanced by GPS navigation as needed.\nHike type: Social.\nWe won’t be hiking at a fast pace because this is a social hike\, not a conditioning hike. There is nothing wrong with stopping\, even if it means every 50 steps. \nThose that wish to return immediately instead of hanging around during the snack and beverage share\, should memorize the route so they can safely return on their own. \nStops\nThe host may designate stopping points to let others catch up. This hike will include an extended stop for a snack and beverage share at the half way point. \nWe will stop at junctions to make sure everybody makes any turns or chooses the correct direction at splits\, else something will be used to mark the direction\, usually a large arrow made of baking soda or sticks. There may not always be a sweeper designated to be the last hiker. \nGroup separation\nSometimes hikers wish to move significantly ahead and not wait at designated stopping points. Please let the host know. They are on their own regarding route and navigation. \nDirections\nWhere Long Canyon Rd. and S. Wood Ranch Pkwy. intersect in Simi Valley. There is a free paved parking lot at the trailhead on the southwest corner. \nFrom CA-23 and I-101:\nNorth CA-23\, exit Olsen Rd.\nRight (east) on Olsen Rd.\, which becomes Madera Rd.\, for 2 miles.\nRight (south) on N. Wood Ranch Pkwy.\, which becomes S. Wood Ranch Pkwy.\, for 2 miles.\nRight at dead end (intersection with Long Canyon Rd.) and immediate left into parking lot.\nTrailhead at the opposite corner. \nFrom CA-118 and CA-27:\nWest CA-118\, exit 23 onto 1st St.\nLeft (south) on 1st St.\, which becomes Long Canyon Rd.\, for 5 miles.\nCross at dead end (intersection with S. Wood Ranch Pkwy.) and immediate left into parking lot.\nTrailhead at the opposite corner. \nCoordinates of trailhead: 34.228330\, -118.803130\nAddress of a nearby house: 572 Bannister Way\, Simi Valley\, CA 93065 \nFAQ\nHiking Plus Page Links\nDisclaimer / Release of Liability

DESCRIPTION:4.6 miles\, 1000′ gain\, Easy Intermediate\nEasier Option – 2.7 miles\, 320′ gain \nMany have gotten lost relying on GPS. This is the Wendy Trailhead\, where S. Wendy Dr. ends at Potrero Rd. \nHeading out\, we cross a creek\, turn right at the split\, then Turn right at the dead end. We regroup at the visitor center\, where there will be bathrooms. \nWe cross the wooden bridge and go left at the asphalt path. \nAfter 1/3 mile\, those that want the easier path turn left\, go 0.4 miles and turn right at the dead end. After 500′\, wait at the bench for the rest of the group (45 – 60 min). \nThe rest will continue down for 3/4 mile. There will be a porta-potty and picnic table. We’ll regroup\, then turn left and go about 1.3 miles and another 435′ of gain before turning left and heading up about 1/2 mile. \nAt the top\, we’ll head left for 500′ and arrive at a bench and overlook. We’ll share snacks and beverages for 30-60 minutes\, then head down 500′\, turn right at the junction\, and return to our cars. \nIf you wish to return before the social event completes\, study the map so you can find your way back. \nThe Route\nHike Distance: 4.6 mi / 2.7 mi\nGain: 1000′ / 320′\nDistribution: Most of the incline is concentrated in the middle of this hike.\nDifficulty: Easy Intermediate / Fit beginner\nShape: Lollipop.\nPace: approx. 2.0 mph.\nTrail Type: Fire road\, double track\, single track.\nDuration: 3.5 hours\nDogs: We pass a “no dogs” sign.\nRestrooms: Yes\nDrinking Fountains: No.\nParking: Free along street.\nWhat to bring: 1 liter of water for every 3 miles.\nHiking shoes/boots. We won’t be hiking at a fast pace because this is a social hike\, not a conditioning hike. \nStops: The host may designate stopping points to let others catch up. This hike will include an extended stop for a snack and beverage share at the half way point. We will stop at junctions to make sure everybody makes any turns or chooses the correct direction at splits\, else something will be used to mark the direction\, usually an arrow made of baking soda or sticks. \nGroup separation: Hikers moving significantly ahead or not waiting at designated stopping points are on their own regarding route and navigation. \nInteresting Notes\nHere are a couple plants you will see on this hike: \nHeartleaf Penstemon\nLeaves are shiny and saw toothed\, shaped like hearts\, 2 to 6 centimeters long and arranged oppositely on the branches. Stems are red. Small scarlet red tubular flowers. \nYucca\nWhite flowers on stalk. Stalk is often missing\, leaving only the spires from which it grows. Stalks are very strong and light\, so they make good walking sticks. Needles on end of spires. Chopped up root can be uses as shampoo. Roasted root can be eaten like a potato. Illegal to remove live stick in CA. Pronounced with short u. Dried leaves make good tinder. \nRoot can be chopped up and used as soap. To eat root\, remove skin and core\, boil 15 minutes. Then fry or bake. Flowers are mildly sweet. The fruit is also edible\, but bitter if not ripe. To access fibers: Soak for a month in water\, lightly pound leaves with rock or club\, or scrape skin off skin. Roll between hands\, then pull and separate fibers. SUMMARY:Wildwood Central Park ~ Gentler Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:Wildwood Park in Thousand Oaks is one of the most versatile local parks there is\, with 27 miles of trails skittering through rocky cliffs\, cacti-filled desert environs\, volcanic rock\, riparian forest\, and a cool\, watery canyon. Continue for about a mile to the end and turn into the Wildwood parking lot on the left. \nFrom the 118\, travel west to the 23\, exit at Avenida De Los Arboles and turn right. SUMMARY:Lynn Road to Rosewood Trail to Angel Vista ~ gentler friendly
DESCRIPTION:Let’s welcome back Mike Wild with this easy hike. It’s a 4.5 mile out-and-back trip from Lynn Road to the Rosewood Trail to Angel Vista. There is an option to add more mileage if this shorty is too short for you. We’ll park at the playfield near Stagecoach Inn and walk from Lynn Road on the lower Rosewood Trail\, to the usual trailhead and then on up the trail. The elevation gain/loss is about 900’. It is a well maintained trail with lots of foliage but relatively little shade. At the top\, the picnic table at Angel Vista offers great views of the Conejo Valley\, Hidden Valley\, the White Stallion chateaus\, the Oxnard Plains\, and (on a clear day) a couple of the Channel Islands. \nPlease review the ongoing guidelines to participate in our morning hikes. SUMMARY:Long Canyon - Easy CC Loop - Suitable for Fit Beginners
DESCRIPTION:3 miles\, 650′ gain\, Fit Beginner\nEasy option\, 1.4 miles\, 450′ gain\, Fit Beginner \nThe address given\, is not the address of the hike. It is a nearby address that may cause your GPS to drive past the trailhead. \nThose that prefer the Easy Option\, should head UP from the trail head\, waiting when they get to the bench at the top. \nFor the rest of us: Starting from the trailhead parking lot\, we head west on the Woodridge Connector along the sides of houses\, which is the back way. This is a relatively flat section for about 3/4 mile. \nLeft when arriving at the asphalt along Woodridge Loop Trail\, immediate right at the split\, then continue until it comes to an end at a junction. Left and continue to another junction. Make a right\, go about 50′ to another junction\, make a right again\, then 300′ to Autumn Ridge Trail. \nLeft and continue for about a mile. This is a fire road and a steady climb. We continue until 5-points junction. \nMake a sharp left onto Sunrise trail\, then up to the bench. There\, we’ll meet with those that took the easy option\, and stop for a snack and beverage share. \nFor the return\, we’ll turn right and follow Long Canyon Trail down to the parking lot. \nInteresting Notes:\nTake notice of the Eucalyptus tree at the trailhead. \nAlong the left side of the trail during the last 200′ (last because we are doing a counter-clockwise loop)\, you will see: \nWhite Sage – the leaves are very fragrant when pinched\nElderberry – The blue or purple berries can be made into elderberry wine\, jam\, syrup\, and pies. \nHike\nDistance: 3 mi (easier option\, 1.4 mi)\nGain: 650′ (easier option\, 450′)\nDistribution: A moderate fire-road climb at the middle portion of the hike.\nDifficulty: Fit Beginner.\nShape: Loop\, counter-clockwise.\nPace: 2.0 mph.\nTrail Type: Fire road\, single and double track. This hike includes an extended stop for a snack and beverage share just before the last segment down. \nWe’ll stop at junctions to make sure everybody makes any turns or chooses the correct direction at splits\, else something will be used to mark the direction\, usually a large arrow made of baking soda or some sticks in the shape of an arrow. There may not always be a sweeper designated to be the last hiker. \nDirections\nWhere Long Canyon Rd. and S. Wood Ranch Pkwy. intersect in Simi Valley. There is a free paved lot at the trailhead on the southwest corner. \nFrom CA-23 and I-101\nNorth CA-23\, exit Olsen Rd.\nRight (east) on Olsen Rd.\, which becomes Madera Rd.\, for 2 miles.\nRight (south) on N. SUMMARY:💦Wet n' Wild(wood)

SUMMARY:COLORADO: Raft Ruby/Horsetheif Canyon to UTAH
DESCRIPTION:Bucket list trip! \nThis is not a hiking or backpacking trip.\nThis is an overnight rafting trip on the Colorado River.\nPermits for this trip are released two months in advance. Looking to coordinate with boaters from past trips to better suit the availability of those who have been looking forward to rafting and to increase our chances of winning. \n🛶 Please add yourself to the waitlist to indicate interest. This trip will prioritize those that came along for SDB kayak camping in Horseshoe Bend and/or Black Canyon.\n🛶 If there is still space\, others may be added based on relevant experience and history of attendance with SDB. \n***\nWHERE: Colorado River from CO to UT\nRATING: Class II\nCFS RANGE: 1\,000-30\,000 (Our target is 5\,000 CFS and below)\nLENGTH: 4 days (25.1 river miles)\nTARGET TIMEFRAME: Early September (High 80+/Low 70)\nBOATS: Can SUP\, kayak\, canoe\, or enjoy shared raft rentals \n* Hoping for September\, although June is a great time to consider as well. This trip has minimal guidance. It may be possible to plan ridesharing by communicating with other attendees. \nAs this trip is out of state\, communication is critical. There is sporadic phone service or no service. Therefore\, if something comes up\, you must communicate with the group as early as possible. \n\nMore information to be provided later.\nBearfoot Theory’s trip blog.\nRoad Trip Ryan’s blog.\nRaft Rentals from Rimrock Adventures \n\nEach participant in this paddle trip must realize that they are ultimately responsible for their own safety and navigation while engaging in this activity. \nDISCLAIMER: Enter the river at your own risk. SUMMARY:Biking - Temescal to Fishermans Village 20 or 30 miles.
DESCRIPTION:This is a 20 or 30 mile (your choice) beach ride. We’ll start at Temescal Canyon and take the Marvin Braude bike trail south to Fishermans Village\, with a small side trip to potentially see some very large boats. At this point\, anyone wanting to do only 20 miles can relax with some coffee\, ice cream or a snack. The 30 mile group will continue another 5 miles down the bike path and then start back. We’ll likely stop somewhere for a snack and a drink before retuning to our start point. \nThe route is all paved with a total gain of about 167 feet over 20 miles. So\, it’s about as flat as a trail can be. \nThe only caveat to this one is that there always seems to be headwinds coming out of the Northwest during the last few miles. \nBring Along: \n\nMake sure you bring along a spare inner tube and have tires inflated for road riding.\n\nMEETUP LOCATION (<- Click) \nPARKING FEE: There is paid parking at Temescal and PCH and you can also park on Temescal Canyon for free and ride down to the starting point. \nRESTROOMS: YES \nDURATION: 4 HOURS \nDISTANCE: 20 or 30 miles – you choose. \nROUTE: (<-click to see it) \nELEVATION GAIN: 167′ \nPACE: 11-13 mph \nTERRAIN: 20/30 miles of bike path and paved roads. \nMY CELL# IS: 818-307-6460 \nPLEASE make sure your bike is in working order before attending.

SUMMARY:Lizard Rock Loop - Easy Intermediate with easier option
DESCRIPTION:Easy Intermediate\, 4.5 miles\, 600′ gain\nEasier Option\, 3.5 miles\, 460′ gain \nThis is a unique loop through Wildwood Park that takes us to the famous Lizard Rock. \nThere are several extended inclines and a few short but steep climbs that cause this to be rated on the easy end of the intermediate spectrum. Beginners will still have no problem completing this hike\, but they may be cursing some of the inclines and will not be zooming along on the steps or inclines at high speed. \nThere is nothing wrong with taking it slow because this is a social hike\, not a conditioning hike. We’ll be waiting for folks to catch up at the major junctions. I may put down white powder lines so that nobody gets lost if they fall way behind. \nWe’ll be starting from the tennis court parking lot 4 blocks east of the trail head parking lot and across the road. \nWe’ll cross to the park side of the road through a tunnel\, and turn right on to the Moonridge trail that runs parallel to the road. We’ll follow for about 1/4 mile\, and then go left instead of taking the stem to the right. \nThis will take us to the steps to the trail head parking lot. We’ll regroup. \nThose that want the easier option will cross the parking lot and take main trail (Mesa trail) straight for 1 mile\, turning right at the Lizard Rock trail\, and following it up to Lizard Rock. \nThe rest of us will continue along the Moonridge trail. We’ll follow it around for another 1/2 mile and make a right at the North Teepee Trail fire road and continue for about 200′. \nNext\, we’ll make a left at the Stagecoach Bluff Trail for about 500′\, where it will dead end at a trail of the same name. We’ll make a left and continue for about 1000′ until it dead ends. We make a left\, then the next right to head up to Lizard Rock\, where we’ll share snacks and beverages. \nFinally\, we’ll head along the ridge of Lizard Rock and then down towards the Mesa Trail fire road. We’ll make a left\, and take it all the way back to the main parking lot. Then we’ll cross the lot and take the steps at the far end of the lot down\, and return on the trail we started on\, back to the tunnel and then our cars. \nReturning Early\nFor those that wish to head back instead of hanging around for the snack share\, you are responsible for finding your own way back. Please follow the posted route and map. \nDirections\nWildwood Park\n635 W Avenida De Los Arboles\nThousand Oaks\, CA 91360 \nFrom the 118:\nCA-118 west to CA-23.\nContinue south on CA-23 to exit 15 for 4.8 miles\, Avenida de los Arboles\nTurn right (west) on Avenida de los Arboles for 3.3 miles until 4 blocks before it ends.
