SUMMARY:Stage Coach - Andora Trailhead - Easy Intermediate and Easy Option
DESCRIPTION:3.5 miles\, 800′ gain\, easy intermediate\nEasy option: 450′\, 50′ gain\, short walk.\nThe Easy Option does not start at the same place\, but gets you to the social event. \nThis hike will include an extended stay at the top\, where we’ll have a snack share social event for 30-60 minutes. \nNearly the entire trail is an incline. Fit beginners can complete this hike\, but it will certainly get their blood pumping. \nThere are no super steep sections\, but much of the trail is rugged\, much like a stair climb. This is not a conditioning hike\, it’s a social hike. We’ll be stopping at various points to let people catch up and to make sure they make any turns. \nThe hike covers a portion of an old stagecoach road that linked LA with San Francisco in the 1860s. You can see holes that\, according to others\, were drilled into the rock for chains to help the stagecoaches up the steeper sections\, during which passengers had to get out of the vehicle. \nWe will begin near the intersection of Andora and Valley Circle. We’ll proceed up a rocky trail past a plaque erected in 1939 to commemorate the old stagecoach route\, then we’ll proceed to the top of the pass for a great view overlooking the valley. There\, we’ll have a social event lasting 30-90 minutes\, sharing snacks and beverages. \nThere are a few different places all at the top\, where we have been having our social event\, depending on wind level and direction\, plant growth for blocking sound\, etc. \nThere are a variety of ways of getting to the same place and returning. Please follow the host to take the chosen route. The return route may be slightly different than the way up through a parallel path. The host may mark the path on the way up using baking soda. \nEasy Option\nThe group should arrive at the Social Event area about 7p\, and will likely be visible from the easy option Lilac trailhead parking lot. \nFrom the Lilac trailhead\, walk straight ahead from the lot\, moving east. After about 350′\, bear right at the fire road. Follow it as it curves right. After 25′\, find the group 50′ on the left. If we aren’t there yet\, wait for the group to make their way up\, or turn right and do a mini hike down the trail until the group reaches you\, then go back up with the group. Click to see image. \nThe Hike\nDistance: 3.5 miles\, Easy Option: 450′\nGain: 800′\, Easy Option: 40′\nDistribution: Most of the incline is in the first half.\nDifficulty: Easy Intermediate.\nShape: Out and Back.\nPace: approx. 2.0 mph.\nTrail Type: Fire road\, double track\, single track.\nTrail Variations: Some parts of the trail are rugged.\nDuration: 3.5 hours\nDogs: Yes.\nRestrooms: Yes.\nDrinking Fountains: No.\nParking: Park on the street. \nWhat to bring:\n1 liter of water for every 3 miles.\nHiking shoes/boots. Not required\, but recommended.\nFlashlight or headlamp.\nSunscreen and/or hat as needed. \nHosting\nRoute: The host knows the route.\nNavigation: Host memory\, enhanced by GPS navigation as needed. \nHike type: Social.\nWe won’t be hiking at a fast pace because this is a social hike\, not a conditioning hike. There is nothing wrong with stopping\, even if it means every 50 steps. \nStops:\nThe host may designate stopping points to let others catch up. This hike will include a stop for a snack and beverage share at the half way point. \nEach hiker is responsible for knowing their capability\, only attending events where they are able to sustain the described pace\, for keeping up with the group sufficiently enough to make the turns and not get left behind\, and for making sure the host is notified if they are going to split from the group. \nGroup separation:\nHikers moving significantly ahead and not waiting at designated stopping points\, are on their own regarding route and navigation. \nDirections\nStage Coach Trail\, Andora trailhead\n9861 Andora Ave.\nChatsworth\, CA 91311\n34.249626\, -118.619625 \nEasy Option: 7822 Lilac Ln\, Simi Valley\, CA 93063\nCoordinates : 34.263770\, -118.633435 \nFrom CA-118\nTopanga Canyon (CA-27) south\, 1.4 mi\nRight (west) on Devonshire St for .4 mi\nLeft (southwest) on Valley Circle for .6 mi\nRight (west) on Lassen for 43 ft.\nLeft (southwest) on Andora for 157 ft. \nFAQ\nHiking Plus Page Links\nDisclaimer / Release of Liability

SUMMARY:Hike at Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park - Borrego Trail & Billy Goat Trail
DESCRIPTION:The total mileage for this hike is 5 miles with about 800 ft. of elevation gain. \nWe will start at the trail head of the Borrego Trail\, which is right off of the parking lot. This is where we will meet. We will head up the Borrego Trail until we get to Mustard Road. Here we will turn right. Then we will get onto the Billy Goat Trail. Once that ends\, we will turn right to go on Whiting Spur Road. When we get down to Four Corners\, we will head back on Mustard Road to Borrego Canyon. From Borrego Trail\, we will take this back to the parking lot. \nThis is a moderate hike in general\, but the Billy Goat Trail does pose some difficulty due to it being a bit more narrow and rocky. \nHere is a link to the park map: http://ocparks.com/civicax/filebank/blobdload.aspx?BlobID=15841 \nThe trail head we will be going on is off of the parking lot on Portola in between Alton Pkwy. and Bake Pkwy. Let’s meet right at the trail head by the sign. \nThe address is: 26701 Portola Parkway\, Foothill Ranch\, CA 92610 \nIf you have any questions\, let me know! I’m looking forward to the hike! \nDogs are not allowed at this park. \nThere is parking near the trailhead. Parking is $3\, unless you have an OC Parks Annual Permit. If you hike a lot\, it’s totally worth it: http://ocparks.com/about/fees/pass

SUMMARY:Lynnmere Loop from Camino Magenta - a Gentler (not Beginner) Hike
DESCRIPTION:Instead of our usual starting point at the Conejo Playfields\, this shorter\, gentler hike will start at the top of Camino Magenta\, in the beautiful unincorporated Lynn Ranch neighborhood surrounded by Thousand Oaks. \nWe’ll do a clockwise loop around the gated Lynnmere community and wind up back at our starting point about 5 miles and about 1.200′ later. Along the way\, we’ll see the nifty 60’s Teledyne Scientific & Imaging building\, Amgen and the Biotech corridor in the distance to the west\, and Montclef / Wildwood below us as we loop around the north side. There are two street crossings\, both at gated entrances\, so we won’t have to worry too much about auto traffic. \nIn some climbs / descents\, the trail has some loose rock – please wear appropriate hiking shoes or boots. \nDIRECTIONS: \nExit Ventura Fwy (101) at Lynn Road\, and travel northeast 1.2 miles to Camino Manzanas\, the fourth left-hand turn. Take Camino Manzanas 0.3 miles to Camino Magenta\, and turn right. Park in any legal spot between the intersection and the trailhead at the top of the hill. Please be nice; avoid turning around in residents’ driveways if at all possible. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY\nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals. \nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. SUMMARY:Stage Coach - Andora Trailhead - Easy Intermediate and Easy Option
DESCRIPTION:3p start time.\n3.5 miles\, 800′ gain\, easy intermediate\nEasy option: 450′\, 50′ gain\, short walk.\nThe Easy Option does not start at the same place\, but gets you to the social event. \nWe may see waterfalls!

SUMMARY:Hike at Caspers Wilderness Park - Bell Canyon + Oso Trail
DESCRIPTION:The hike I am planning is around 6.3 miles with about 700 ft. of elevation gain. It starts at the very end of the paved road\, the long gray strip that can be seen on the map. \nWe will begin at the Bell Canyon Trail head. We will continue onto that and then take it to the Cougar Pass trail. We will go up that and make a left on Oso Trail. Once that ends\, we will come back down Bell Canyon Trail until we hit Star Ridge Trail. We will take this to West Ridge Trail and go left. This will take us to a single track trail\, Dick Loskorn Trail. This hits Nature Loops Trail and this will take us back to the beginning. \nThis is a beautiful hike with expansive views. It is a nice and remote hike\, so you are really out there in the wilderness. \nIf you have any questions regarding the park or the trails we will be on\, please let me know! \nHere is a link to the park map: http://ocparks.com/civicax/filebank/blobdload.aspx?BlobID=8164 \nThe address is: 33401 Ortega Hwy. San Juan Capistrano\, CA 92675 \nDogs are not allowed at this park. \nParking is $5\, unless you have an OC Parks Annual Permit. If you hike a lot\, it’s totally worth it: http://ocparks.com/about/fees/pass You can buy the pass at the park.

SUMMARY:Wind Caves - The Domelands (Anza Borrego Desert)
DESCRIPTION:Intermediate Backpacking Trip (only because it’s a Dry Camp)\nMilage: 7 – 14 miles (depending on route)\nSome Cross country hiking.\nAscent: +700-1000 ft\nHigh clearance vehicles recommended….but we have seen regular car make it. \nDry camp (no water)\nMaps/GPX files/Google map \nFrom last year trip. \nInstagram Video) \nThere are several places in Anza-Borrego State Park where exposed sandstone layering has been slowly eroded by the wind to create odd and whimsical-shaped formations. Near Split Mountain\, there are some formations that have a rather sinister look to them. The formations also seem to resemble buildings from the fictional town of Bedrock\, which was the hometown of America’s favorite prehistoric family\, The Flintstones. This place is known as the Wind Caves and can be visited by following a loop-trail hike. \nNot only does this hike take in the Wind Caves\, but it also offers outstanding views of the heavily eroded Carrizo Badlands to the west. These badlands look like a choppy sea with large waves frozen in place. Naturally\, there is classic desert vegetation growing profusely along the trail \nNO WATER ON THE TRAIL ( we must carry all of our water) \nTotal milage 12 + \nDay 1 \nMeet: We will meet at the Chevron Station @ 9:am \n1071 Imperial Hwy\,\nOcotillo\, CA 92259\n32.730716\, -115.994637 \n•We will caravan to the trailhead @9:15am \n• We will hike about 4.5 miles basecamp. \n• Hike to the wind caves 2. (4 miles round trip) \n• Hike back to camp and eat dinner. \nDay 2 \n• 8am break down camp and head back to the cars. \nDISCLAIMER: Hike at your own risk. Be responsible for yourself and your safety. Make good decisions. With any trip\, things can change\, reservations can get lost\, the unexpected can happen. A go-with-the-flow attitude is always a good thing\, and most importantly\, let’s all have fun! This is an intermediate hike. Make sure you are in good enough physical shape for the distance\, elevation changes\, and terrain. The hike leaders in this group aren’t professional hike leaders. By signing up for these events\, you agree not to hold the Meetup organizers responsible for whatever happens to you on these events. The hiking group does not certify the expertise of the organizers\, the event or assistant organizers (hike leaders) and…We are NOT responsible for any possible losses or injuries.
