SUMMARY:Hike Rosewood Trail to Angel Vista and ***Celebrate the 4th of July!🇺🇸🌟✨🎉
DESCRIPTION:We will enjoy our hike and have a post-hike potluck gathering to celebrate the 4th of July in my back yard from 12:30 pm to 4 pm. All active Trailblazers are also welcome to join the gathering and bring your favorite food\, beverage or dessert to share. The address will be sent just after the hike. \nWe will start our hike near the beginning of Regal Oak Ct. on the lower Rosewood Trail\, a dirt trail heading up a shaded ravine at the base of the mountains\, and continue to the usual Rosewood trail. Rosewood trail presents a clear view over the 101 Freeway carving up the Conejo Valley. This is a preview of the panorama to come at Angel Vista\, and the view grows larger as you hike higher up the mountain. At the top\, the picnic table at Angel Vista offers one of the magnificent panoramic viewpoints in the Santa Monica Mountains in a coastal area including the Boney Mountains\, Sandstone Peak and the rocky crown of Santa Monicas with Conejo Valley\, the Oxnard Plains and (on a clear day) a couple of the Channel Islands. \nThis hike is 5 miles with an elevation gain/loss of about 900‘. \nDirections: From the 101 Freeway take Ventu Park Rd. south\, turn right on Lynn Rd. and left on Regal Oak. \nPLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY\nPlease review our guidelines to participate in our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike at a moderate pace\, or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo “Plus Ones” or dogs on Weekday Trailblazer hikes.\n\nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals.\nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. By participating in any posted event\, you are taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions.\nIf you choose to sign up for this or any Weekday Trailblazers Meetup event\, you are releasing the Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers from all liability in case of possible injuries. SUMMARY:**July 4th Special! Encinal Canyon to Top of the World (or close)-Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:**Note start time of 8:30!\nCome hike for “liberty and justice for all”\, or at least to be able to eat more at your holiday celebration! \nIt’s an out and back\, so go as far as you’d like and have time for. \nPlease review the guidelines to participate in our morning hikes. Here are some highlights and a link to the guidelines: \nhttps://www.meetup.com/the-weekday-trailblazers/ \nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\nSign out if you are not attending\n\nEncinal Canyon is named for encina\, the Spanish word for the holm oak\, a lovely Mediterranean tree with holly characteristics. Holm oaks are one of the main trees used to establish truffle orchards\, but we’ll be nosing around the canyon strictly for its beauty. \nThe trail from Encinal is a smooth\, firm\, and well-traveled singletrack- climbing\, swooping and winding with a constant\, gentle slope. We’ll have fabulous views of the coast for much of the way. Close to the top\, we’ll take on the slightly steeper Etz Meloy Motorway\, then the last tenth of a mile is up a seldom-used trail to the isolated peak\, where we’ll both lose and catch our breath with a 360-degree view. \nFrom our perch above it all we’ll see Sandstone Peak to the west\, Simi Valley to the north\, Ladyface and Mt Baldy to the east and the Channel Islands to the south. \nIf you go all the way\, this is an 8 mile out and back hike\, with about 1200′ of elevation gain. If you don’t go all the way\, it’s less. \nGive yourself extra time to get to the trailhead- the roads are winding and slow. \nDirections: \nThe parking area is off the north side of Encinal Canyon Road\, almost directly across the street from the Camp 13 fire station. Park in the large dirt lot\, which is free. \nFrom the 101 Freeway\, turn south on Kanan Rd. Continue 6.2 miles\, then turn right onto Mulholland Hwy. After 0.9 miles\, veer left onto Encinal Canyon Rd. Drive 2.4 miles to the parking area\, on the right. \nFrom the Pacific Coast Highway – From the PCH\, turn up Encinal Canyon Road. Drive 5 miles\, then turn right onto Encinal Cyn Rd. Continue 1.1 miles to the parking area\, on the left. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals. \nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. By participating in any posted event\, you are taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience. \nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike; please have your friends join The Weekday Trailblazers\, and register for the event. \nSorry\, dogs are not allowed on State Park trails. \nAll participants must be 18 or older\, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

SUMMARY:A longer Sycamore Canyon evening hike: Joanne's route
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE THE PARKING/MEETUP LOCATION DESCRIBED BELOW (IT’S NOT WENDY & POTRERO).\nRoute is a past favorite with the Weekday Trailblazers and Geo-hikes. Joanne is visiting SoCal\, will attend\, just like old times! Hike is 9.2 miles and about 1150ft up. Pace will be moderate (~2.5 MPH). It’s a longer than usual evening hike and a solid workout. We will head down the paved Sycamore Canyon Road and drop into the canyon\, make a right onto the Ranch Center Road and take it up hill and out of the canyon until we reach some old water tanks. A left turn and descend down the Ranch Center Fire Road\, returning us to the bottom of Sycamore Canyon near the ranger’s house\, the campground and where we will take a quick break and regroup. After\, head back up the Sycamore Canyon Road to our cars. Note: the Ranch Center Road and the Ranch Center Fire Road are different roads. \nHike is cross-posted with Geo-hikes: https://www.meetup.com/https-www-meetup-com-geo-hikes/events/294357984/ \nBRING A HEADLAMP OR FLASHLIGHT! \nDIRECTIONS:\nTake Highway 101 to Thousand Oaks. Exit at Wendy Drive. Go south (towards the ocean) on Wendy. At Lynn turn right\, then left at Reino that turns into Potrero Road. Take Potrero to Pinehill and turn right and park (Do not park on Potrero as you need a permit). Walk back along Potrero to its intersection with Big Sycamore Canyon Road that is more or less across from 4153 Potrero Road-don’t pester folks at 4153 Potrero and keep your voices down. We will start hike there. There are no restrooms at the trailhead. \nEssentials :\nBring water and a snack. Be willing to get a good workout! Bring your cellphone\, a headlamp or flashlight. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY\nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY:\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. SUMMARY:Sycamore Canyon Hike from the Ocean
DESCRIPTION:HIKE DETAILS:\nThis is a gentler hike for Thursday\, hopefully there will be a marine layer at the beach since we are starting at 9:00. This hike will go from the beach up to the picnic table on the fire road\, approximately 5.5 miles. Most of the hike is exposed\, but hopefully we will have some fog. Bring sunscreen and bug spray. No dogs. \nWe will meet in the Day Use parking lot at Sycamore Canyon Campground and start off along the main Sycamore Canyon road and turn up to the fire road where we will climb up to the picnic table (hopefully no water or very little at the bottom). If you want to turn left at the picnic table and go up to where the Ray Miller trail meets the fire road (another mile up and mile back) you can do that and then turn around. We will follow the fire road down to the parking lot. \nDirections: \nWe will be meeting at the Sycamore Canyon Campground and day use parking area on Pacific Coast hwy. This trailhead and parking area is a few miles south from the La Jolla Canyon Parking area where we go to hike the Ray Miller Trail. \nParking is available in the campground for $12 (or free with a State Parking Permit\, the 2022 Parking Permit is still good through 2023). There may not be free parking on PCH. \nThere are also restrooms at the day parking lot. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends.
