SUMMARY:Loop Through Long Canyon/Wood Ranch - Gentler Friendly Hike
DESCRIPTION:Please review the guidelines to participate in our hikes. Here are some highlights and a link to the guidelines.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\nPlan on sticking with the group\, and completing the entire hike at a reasonable pace or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nDogs are not permitted on State Park land.\nBring ample hydration and sun protection.\n\nhttp://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/1/c/9/0/event_180187312.jpeg \nLet’s hike through Wood Ranch with a loop just under 5 miles with an elevation gain of about 1000′. The trails have dried out so I recommend hiking poles for the spots with loose and rocky terrain. \nhttp://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/1/d/f/8/event_180187672.jpeg \nAfter we climb up the Long Canyon trail\, we’ll pass by rock formations with links to the past. Continuing the climb\, we’ll pause at the bench to take in the great view. \nOur loop will traverse Long Canyon\, Meadow Vista\, Hidden Canyon\, and Sunrise trails\, ending on the Woodridge connector trail back to the parking lot. \nhttps://www.alltrails.com/explore/recording/wood-ranch-loop-2f3bbb9 \nDuring the hike\, we’ll see how this area connects to several other WDTB hikes – Montgomery Canyon\, Albertson Motorway\, Autumn Ridge\, Woodridge\, and Sunset Hills trails. \nThis is a gentler hike. We will go at a more moderate pace than a regular Trailblazer hike\, and we’ll take more breaks. The purpose is to give novice and intermediate hikers who may feel they’re not up to a regular hike a chance to get out and experience our beautiful trails. Faster hikers are welcome to come along\, with the understanding that the hike is geared toward those who want to go at an easier pace. \nhttp://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/a/e/4/4/event_72884612.jpeg \nDirections:\nFrom the 23 between Moorpark and Thousand Oaks\, exit on Olsen Rd and go east (toward Simi). Olsen Rd becomes Madera Rd. Near the Reagan Library\, turn right onto Wood Ranch Pkwy. At the stop sign at the end\, turn right\, then make a quick left into the parking lot. \nFrom the 118 in Simi Valley\, exit on First St and go south. First St becomes Long Canyon Road. Continue just past Wood Ranch Pkwy\, and turn left into the parking lot. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals. \nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. By participating in any posted event\, you are taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions. \nIf you choose to sign up for this or any Weekday Trailblazers Meetup event\, you are releasing the Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers from all liability in case of possible injuries. Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience. \nAll participants must be 18 or older\, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

SUMMARY:Fossil and Old Boney Trails - Intermediate Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join us on this sweet (maybe not so sweet!) hike that wanders through grasslands and chaparral\, down into a canyon\, then up to eye-stretching views. We will follow Sycamore Canyon fire road until it intersects with the Fossil Trail. We will then take the Fossil Trail to the Old Boney Trail. The Fossil Trail features a hunk of fist-sized marine fossils smack dab in the middle of our path- we’ll actually walk on prehistory. \nIf it’s a clear day\, we’ll easily be able to see Santa Cruz Island\, as well as the Los Padres Mountain range. When we reach the Old Boney Trail\, we will make a left and continue on Old Boney until it intersects with the Danielson Fire Road. We will then take the Danielson Fire Road back to the cars. \nThis hike will be approximately 6.5 miles with an elevation gain of approximately 1700 feet. Bring poles if you favor them. \nDIRECTIONS: \nExit Ventura Fwy (101) at Lynn Road. Take Lynn Road southwest 5.25 miles to Via Goleta. Rancho Sierra Vista entrance (through the stone pillars and arch) is on the left. Drive to the end\, and park near the restroom facilities. \nPlease review our guidelines to participate in our hikes. Restrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\nPlan on completing the entire hike at a reasonable pace or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level\nAll participants must be 18 or older\, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian\n\nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Palo Comado to the Edge of China Flat - Gentler Friendly but not Beginner
DESCRIPTION:Palo Comado (“Burnt Stick” in Spanish) tells you a lot about the environs – frequently burned over by wildfires\, this was directly in the line of the Woolsey Fire but much of the vegetation has re-grown. \nThis is one of many routes from the Conejo Valley to China Flat. Except for one turn near the trailhead\, this gentle 900′ climb\, punctuated by a 100′ climb and descent just at the start\, is uninterrupted until we get up to the top\, where we’ll rest at the bench\, turn around\, and head back. \nThis is about 6 mile hike with about 1\,000′ of elevation gain. \nUPDATE: Please review the guidelines to participate in our morning hikes. Here are some highlights and a link to the guidelines:\nhttps://www.meetup.com/The-Weekday-Trailblazers/about/\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours:\nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\nPlan on completing the entire hike at a moderate pace or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo dogs allowed. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Oak Creek Canyon to Los Robles East ~ Gentler Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:Oak Creek Canyon Trail is a rather special trail in Los Robles Open Space that is designed for the blind as well as the sighted. The all-access trail is shaded by a canopy of oaks\, while the Los Robles trail spends more time in the chaparral. \nWe will start at Oak Creek Canyon and proceed to a connector trail a short distance until we meet a junction with Los Robles Trail East. Along this trail\, you’ll travel through a couple of very nice oak groves\, and get some great views throughout the Los Robles Open Space. We will hike out 2.5 miles and return on the same trail. \nThis hike will be 5 miles with about a 900’ elevation gain/loss. We will be going at a little slower pace for those of you who want to take it easy. If you wish to go faster\, that’s ok\, but please wait for the group at all the forks. \nDirection: From the 101 freeway\, drive to the south end of Moorpark Rd\, turn right on Greenmeadow Ave.\, and go a half mile to the parking lot. You must enter via Moorpark Road. Greenmeadow Avenue does not connect to the parking lot from the opposite direction. \nPlease review the guidelines (link to the guidelines) to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nNo “Plus Ones” or dogs on Weekday Trailblazer hikes.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group.
