SUMMARY:A Wilder Wildwood (NOT Gentler)
DESCRIPTION:Attention! New Trailhead. For this special extended Wildwood Park hike we will start at a different trailhead located at Canna St. and Timberwood Ave. From the parking lot adjacent to the playfield we walk UNDER Avenida de los Arboles to begin the hike. This trailhead location allows us to experience more of the beautiful Conejo Arroyo connector trail that leads into Wildwood Park. By adding this extension\, our hike will clock in at 7.25 miles and 1075 feet of gain. Please plan on 3 hours to complete this hike. \nFrom the Arroyo Conejo connector we will catch the Two Springs Trail which hooks up with Moonridge Trail adjacent to the main Wildwood parking lot. From there our hike proceeds as usual–crossing onto the Stagecoach Bluff Trail towards Lizard Rock. The Lizard Rock Trail switchbacks down to the water treatment plant where we pick up the Wildwood Canyon Trail\, crossing streams and tree canopies on the way to Paradise Falls. Upstream of the falls\, we cross over to the Arroyo Conejo connector which takes us back to our starting point. \nDirections: \nFrom the 101 in Thousand Oaks\, turn north on Lynn Road and continue 2.6 miles to Avenida de los Arboles\, then turn left. Take the first right off of Avenida de los Arboles (Canna St.). Parking is in the lot at the intersection of Timberwood Avenue & Canna St. \nFrom the 118\, travel west to the 23\, exit at Avenida De Los Arboles and turn right. Drive further than you remember having to drive to this trailhead (10 or 15 minutes). After you cross Lynn Road\, take the first right as described above. \nPlease review the guidelines (link to the guidelines) to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike at a moderate pace**\,** or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo “Plus Ones” or dogs on Weekday Trailblazer hikes.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Wildwood Central Park Gentler Hike
DESCRIPTION:Wildwood Park is one of our most versatile local parks\, with 27 miles of trails traversing rocky volcanic cliffs\, cacti-filled desert environs\, riparian forest\, and a cool\, watery canyon. Wildwood’s western look served as backdrop for TV classics such as The Rifleman\, Gunsmoke\, and Wagon Train. \nWe will meet at Wildwood’s main parking lot. This looping hike will start at the Mesa Trail\, cross over to the Stagecoach Bluff Trail towards Lizard Rock\, then down the Lizard Rock Trail to the water treatment plant where we pick up the Wildwood Canyon Trail\, crossing streams and tree canopies on the way to Paradise Falls. Upstream of the falls\, Indian Creek (Two Springs) Trail takes us back up to the main parking lot and completes our “Central Park” loop. This hike is approximately 5 miles with about a 800’ elevation gain/loss. We may cross paths with David’s hike or they may pass us along the way. We will be shorter and slower. \nDirections:\nFrom the 101 in Thousand Oaks\, turn north on Lynn Road and continue 2.6 miles to Avenida De Los Arboles\, then turn left. Continue for about a mile to the end and turn into the Wildwood parking lot on the left. \nFrom the 118\, travel west to the 23\, exit at Avenida De Los Arboles and turn right. Drive further than you remember having to drive to this trailhead (10 or 15 minutes). Turn left into the parking lot when the road ends. SUMMARY:Ride the Two Winds (Dos Vientos) - Gentler Friendly Hike
DESCRIPTION:Note 9:00 am start time!\nThis hike will start at 9:00 because it looks like the weather is cooling off a bit. We will probably go slower than Peter’s hike. It’s usually a bit cooler in the Dos Vientos area. We will loop around the periphery of Dos Vientos Open Space\, passing Twin Ponds\, overlooking Potrero Road and the Oxnard Plain with the Channel Islands in the background. \nThis hike is about 5.0 miles with 800 feet of elevation gain. \nPace: This is a gentler friendly hike. We will go at a slightly slower pace and we will finish in about 2-2 1/2 hours. Faster hikers are welcome to join us so long as they are willing to hike at the slower pace of the group or wait at the forks on the trail. There are many confusing side trails in Dos Vientos so please plan to stay in contact with the group\, not too fast and not too slow\, plenty of forks to wait for the rest of the group. \nPlease note this trail is very exposed (no shade) and there is no water along the way. \nDIRECTIONS: From the 101 Freeway in Newbury Park\, exit at Borchard Road. Drive 3.4 miles and turn into the Dos Vientos Community Park on the right\, just after Via Ricardo (and before Via Las Brisas). Meet near the tennis courts to the left. \nIf you are coming from the NW\, exit Wendy and turn left on Wendy and then a right on Borchard to Dos Vientos Community Park. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY\nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY:\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours:\nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\nUnregistered or waitlisted will be turned away\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\nPlan on completing the entire hike or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo dogs\nAll participants must be 18 or older\, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Los Robles trailhead\, walking down to Las Padres and up and around
DESCRIPTION:NOTE:\nPlease note this hike is September 11\, not this week. I feel it is still too hot to hike. It will be a little cooler September 11 and we will start at 8:00. This hike has a lot of trees and shade. We will begin in the parking lot at the end of Moorpark and walk down the street to the Las Padres trail (so do not turn down Greenmeadow to park\, instead park at the end of Moorpark). From there we will loop around and come back to the Moorpark trailhead via the Los Robles trail. Some hikers may want to add a mile by going to the Greenmeadow parking lot at the end of the hike and taking the trail back to Moorpark\, but you can also return to the Moorpark parking lot before that turn off. This should be around 4.5 to 5 miles with maybe 800 feet elevation gain. \n“Robles” is Spanish for oaks\, and we’ll see plenty of them on this beautiful hike. \nTrailhead Directions: From the 101 in Thousand Oaks\, turn south on Moorpark Road. Go to the end of Moorpark DO NOT turn down Greenmeadow\, just park at the end of Moorpark. . \nPlease review the guidelines to participate in our hikes. Here are some highlights and a link to the guidelines: \nhttps://www.meetup.com/The-Weekday-Trailblazers/about/ \nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list \nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike \nNo dogs \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals. \nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. By participating in any posted event\, you are taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. Along the way\, we’ll be treated to magnificent sweeping views of La Jolla and Big Sycamore Canyons\, and of course\, the largest ocean in the world. On a clear day\, the Channel Islands are easily within sight\, although the marine layer has been pretty prominent this summer.\nThis is a 5-6 mile out and back hike with an elevation gain/loss of about 1000’. \nDirections: \nFrom Los Angeles\, take the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) north\, 22 miles from Malibu Canyon Rd. Across the street from Thornhill Broome Beach is the entrance to La Jolla Canyon. It is very clearly marked. Turn right. \nFrom Ventura\, take PCH eastward\, and turn left 4 miles after Las Posas Road into La Jolla Canyon. \nHeads up: There is a parking fee in the lot (or free with state parking pass). There is free parking on PCH just a short walk to the trailhead. \nPlease review the guidelines (guidelines) to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike at a moderate pace.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group.
