SUMMARY:Los Robles trailhead\, walking down to Las Padres and up and around
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: \nThis will be a much easier hike for Tuesday. We will go slower and with less elevation gain and less miles. Anyone who wants to add more mileage\, can take the loop near the Greenmeadow Parking lot. \nWe will start in the parking lot at the end of Moorpark and walk down the street to the Las Padres trail. From there we will loop around and come back to the Moorpark trailhead via the Los Robles trail. This should be around 4 miles with maybe 800 feet elevation gain. Those who want to hike faster can wait for me at the forks. \n“Robles” is Spanish for oaks\, and we’ll see plenty of them on this beautiful hike. We might even see some wild flowers. \nTrailhead Directions: From the 101 in Thousand Oaks\, turn south on Moorpark Road. Go to the end of Moorpark but don’t turn down Greenmeadow\, just park at the end of Moorpark. \nPlease review the guidelines to participate in our hikes. Here are some highlights and a link to the guidelines: \nhttps://www.meetup.com/The-Weekday-Trailblazers/about/ \nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list \nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike \nNo dogs \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals. \nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. By participating in any posted event\, you are taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions. \nIf you choose to sign up for this or any Weekday Trailblazers Meetup event\, you are releasing the Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers from all liability in case of possible injuries. Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience. \nAll participants must be 18 or older or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

SUMMARY:Chumash Trail to Rocky Peak/Triangle
DESCRIPTION:We’ll hike up the Chumash Trail in Simi Valley to join the Rocky Peak trail. We’ll turn left to head to the “Triangle” where several trails meet and provide panoramic views. The hike will be an out and back\, and will be 7.7 miles with 1600 ft gain. It’s mostly a single track trail during the first climb with pretty views of the hills around. The final mile or so to the turn-around is fire-road. \nWe recommend you use poles as the Chumash Trail has some rocks on it. \nThe Chumash Trail showcases the unique geological timeline of the area with striking rock formations and hilly landscapes. Siltstone and sandstone reveals transformations over millions of years. Fossils of ocean invertebrates and vertebrates found along the trail are evidence of a time when the local hills were underwater. The Simi-Santa Rosa fault crosses the ridge near the intersection of the Chumash-Rocky Peak trails. \nDirections: put “Chumash Park and Trail” into your chosen map service. We will park at the end of Flanagan Drive or thereabout. From the 118\, exit Yosemite headed north\, turn right on Flanagan Dr after .4 miles\, then proceed about .8 miles to trailhead on right. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY\nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY:\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals.\nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience. You agree that you can navigate back to your transportation by yourself\, and agree to do so if you fall behind and lose track of the main body of hikers. \nBy now you should know the guidelines to participate in our morning hikes. SUMMARY:Newton Canyon - Gentler Friendly Hike
DESCRIPTION:From the Kanan Rd trailhead\, we’ll jump on the Backbone Trail for a cruise down into Newton Canyon. On our way there\, we’ll cross the creek\, pass under an oak canopy\, and come out into an opening. At the opening\, look toward the sandstone formations in the distance\, and you’ll see the now-maybe-flowing Upper Newton Falls spilling through them like a ribbon. \nThis is an out and back hike at a total of about 5 miles\, with about 1000′ total elevation gain. \nThis is a gentler hike. We will go at a more moderate pace on Thursdays than a regular Tuesday Trailblazer hike\, and we’ll take a break at our turnaround. Faster hikers are welcome to come along\, with the understanding that the hike is geared toward those who want to go at an easier pace. \nDirections: \nExit 101\, then go south (toward beaches) on Kanan Road about 8 miles to just before the third tunnel (T1). The parking lot is on the right. \nFrom Pacific Coast Highway\, go north on Kanan Dume Road about 4 miles and make a left turn into the parking lot immediately after going through the first tunnel. \nParking is free. \nBring sunscreen\, plenty of water\, and wear sturdy shoes and a sun hat. Please consider bringing the 10 essentials (https://bit.ly/1vB2Avz)..) \nOur departure time is 9:00 a.m. Please plan on arriving by 8:45 to get your boots and backpack on in time. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY\nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Through Conejo Canyon bridge to Wildwood Central Park - Intermediate Gentler
DESCRIPTION:Let’s go to Wildwood Park through a new access route. After crossing the bridge from the parking lot\, we will start the hike following Hill Canyon trail to the newly opened “Conejo Canyon Bridge” which connects trails on either side of the creek\, Conejo Canyons and Wildwood Park. \nWildwood Park in Thousand Oaks is one of the most versatile local parks there is\, with 27 miles of trails skittering through rocky cliffs\, cacti-filled desert environs\, volcanic rock\, riparian forest\, and a cool\, watery canyon. Highlights of the hike include waterfalls incorporating 40’ Paradise waterfalls along with a long creek\, Indian caves\, volcanic rock cliffs\, and wildflowers throughout. Wildwood’s archetypal western look served as the set for The Rifleman\, Gunsmoke\, and Wagon Train back in the day\, as well as the movie Spartacus. \nWe will pass through various trails with bridges and tree canopies over approximately 5-6 miles with about a 1000’ elevation gain/loss. \nDirections: \nFrom Moorpark Road in the Santa Rosa Valley\, drive west on Santa Rosa Road for 3.7 miles\, turn left (south) on Hill Canyon Road for about 0.6 miles to the parking lot. \nFrom the 101 Freeway in Camarillo\, take exit 52 onto Santa Rosa Road and drive northeast. After 5 miles\, turn right onto Hill Canyon Road for about 0.6 miles to the parking lot. \nPlease review the guidelines (link to the guidelines) to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike at a moderate pace**\,** or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo “Plus Ones” or dogs on Weekday Trailblazer hikes.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Canyon Overlook Trail to Lizard Rock - Intermediate Gentler
DESCRIPTION:I pre-hiked this route on Friday as the weather is getting hot and I haven’t hiked the Canyon Overlook Trail for quite a while. It was pretty exposed\, but the ocean breeze made it comfortable.\nThe hike starts at the parking area on Hill Canyon Road and climbs Canyon Overlook Trail. The trail is a utility road and becomes a ridgeline trail with spectacular views into Hill Canyon and to Elliott Peak to the west\, and Mt Clef Butte to the east\, ending at Lizard Rock with its own amazing views.\nFollow it all the way passing Lizard Rock Trail\, then turn right and up. At the next fork\, 350 yards on\, keep right and continue going uphill. 200 feet further\, turn right to get to the Lizard Rock Trail and continue zigzagging down to Hill Canyon Water Treatment Center. Then\, we will cross over the new canyon bridge to Hill Canyon Trail and return back to our cars. \nThis hike is about 5 miles with a 900-1000’ elevation gain/loss. SUMMARY:Upper Sycamore Canyon Loop - A Gentler Hike
DESCRIPTION:This hike starts at the Rancho Sierra Vista parking lot\, goes down to the bridge on Sycamore Canyon asphalt\, but then turns up the canyon alongside Upper Sycamore Creek. Along the way\, we’ll be in the shade of Boney Mountain while we climb\, doing a handful of easy water crossings and finding a number of wildflowers along the way. We’ll get to the Old Boney Trail\, and climb back up and out\, taking a few detours along the way. \nOverall distance is 5 miles\, with an elevation loss and gain of about 800 feet. If you want a little more distance\, you’re welcome to take the short excursion to the waterfall\, but there’s more poison oak there. \nIf the weather forecast calls for temperatures in the 90s before 11 am\, this hike will be canceled. Please check Thursday morning before you drive over. \nI did this hike last weekend\, and didn’t see a ridiculous amount of poison oak – at least\, not that interfered with my hiking. I did see the beautiful cluster of Humboldt Lilies along the way\, but after a hot week\, I can’t guarantee we’ll see them again. \nIf another hike is posted for this date\, please sign up for only one. And if you can’t make it\, please change your RSVP to allow someone on the waitlist to take your place. \nPlease review our guidelines to participate in our hikes: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\nUnregistered or waitlisted will be turned away\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\nNo dogs allowed\, on leash\, in doggy backpacks\, etc.\nAnyone under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian\n\nDirections – DO NOT follow Google/Apple instructions!!\nTake 101 Freeway to Lynn Road. Go south 5.5 miles to the wood and stone archway for Rancho Sierra Vista\, and drive all the way in to the restrooms (the innermost parking lot). SUMMARY:Ray Miller Trail in La Jolla Canyon ~ Regular Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:This hike will be the FASTER and EARLIER of the Tuesday hikes. Let’s do the Ray Miller trail to the fire road. Thanks Nancy for the convenient write-up! \nThe trail is an awesome blend of ocean and mountain views in Malibu’s La Jolla Canyon. We will start from the trailhead which follows the canyon eastward\, away from the ocean. Then\, it quickly brings you back toward the ocean at a gradual incline. There’s a great lookout spot where it gives you a breathtaking view of the Pacific Coast Highway against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean\, with sweeping views toward Mugu Rock on the west and Sycamore Cove on the east. After another peak\, you’ll start a slight decline that brings you to the fire road where we will turn around. Along the way\, we’ll be treated to magnificent sweeping views of La Jolla and Big Sycamore Canyons\, and of course\, the largest ocean in the world. On a clear day\, the Channel Islands are easily within sight\, although the marine layer has been pretty prominent this summer.\nThis is a 5-6 mile out and back hike with an elevation gain/loss of about 1000’. Bring sunscreen and mosquito repellent. \nDirections: \nFrom Los Angeles\, take the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) north\, 22 miles from Malibu Canyon Rd. Across the street from Thornhill Broome Beach is the entrance to La Jolla Canyon. It is very clearly marked. Turn right. \nFrom Ventura\, take PCH eastward\, and turn left 4 miles after Las Posas Road into La Jolla Canyon. \nHeads up: There is a parking fee in the lot (or free with state parking pass). There is free parking on PCH just a short walk to the trailhead. \nPlease review the guidelines (guidelines) to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike at a moderate pace\, or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo “Plus Ones” or dogs on Weekday Trailblazer hikes.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group.
