SUMMARY:Lynmere Loop from Wildwood Park - Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY. \nKindly review the guidelines (link to the guidelines) to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your attendance. \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nYour safety is your own personal responsibility\, but the hike leader reserves the right to ask you to leave if you come unprepared.\nNo “Plus Ones” or dogs on Weekday Trailblazer hikes.\n\nWildwood Park in Thousand Oaks is one of the most versatile local parks there is\, with 27 miles of trails skittering through rocky cliffs\, cacti-filled desert environs\, volcanic rock\, riparian forest\, and a cool\, watery canyon. Highlights of the hike an Indian cave\, volcanic rock cliffs\, and wildflowers throughout. Wildwood’s archetypal western look served as the set for The Rifleman\, Gunsmoke\, and Wagon Train back in the day\, as well as the movie Spartacus. \nIt will start at the trailhead that has steps down to the Moonridge Trail. We’ll take the fire road to Lynmere Trail. We will take a short break at the halfway point on Lynmere Trails. On the way back we may go by the Indian Cave. We’ll pass through various trails with On bridges\, crossing streams\, and have some tree canopies for relief from the heat for approximately 7+ miles with about a 1200’ elevation gain/loss. \nDirections: \nFrom the 101 in Thousand Oaks\, turn north on Lynn Road and continue 2.6 miles to Avenida De Los Arboles\, then turn left. Continue for about a mile to the end and turn into the Wildwood parking lot on the left. \nFrom the 118\, travel west to the 23\, exit at Avenida De Los Arboles and turn right. Drive further than you remember having to drive to this trailhead (10 or 15 minutes). Turn left into the parking lot when the road ends. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals.\nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. By participating in any posted event\, you are taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions.\nIf you choose to sign up for this or any Weekday Trailblazers Meetup event\, you are releasing the Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers from all liability in case of possible injuries. Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience. \nAll participants must be 18 or older\, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. \nHope you can join me.\nLinda\nMy cell is: 818-523-8719.

SUMMARY:Lang Ranch to China Flat - Intermediate Hike at 8:30 am
DESCRIPTION:Please Note 8:30 start time! \nWe will respect the warmer temperatures predicted for the coming week by starting at 8:30 and only going to China Flat instead of Simi Peak (though you’re welcome to do so on your own). \nThe hike is a 6.5 mile out & back with 1\,500′ of elevation gain from Lang Ranch parkway to China Flat. If you do the extension to Simi Peak\, that adds another 1.5 miles and 300′ of elevation gain. Our route is principally on the Albertson Fire Road\, which goes from the trailhead eastward all the way to Upper Las Virgenes Canyon\, and is a favorite route for hikers and mountain bikers alike. We’ll turn off this hilly fire road after about three miles and head south for about a quarter of a mile\, on a single track trail\, to a site well-known to Marty McFly and Doc Brown. If you choose to continue\, on your own\, you’ll cross China Flats and then up to the commanding views of 2400-foot Simi Peak. \nThe Albertson Fire Road is an especially scenic route in both directions\, rising up above the Simi and Conejo Valleys and offering westward views of the Pacific and offshore islands. China Flats was the site of Back to the Future 3’s wild west scenes. We will enjoy breath-taking views of the Simi Valley\, Moorpark\, and Bard Reservoir. If you continue on your own to Simi Peak\, you’ll add view of the Conejo Valley\, San Fernando Valley\, Oxnard Plains\, Pacific Ocean\, and the Channel Islands. \nThis hike is exposed almost the entire way\, and the sun has a way of sneaking up on you even on a temperate day. Bring plenty of water and portable shade. \nFree on-street parking is available at the trailhead. \nDirections:\nTake the 101 toward Thousand Oaks. Exit at Westlake Boulevard and turn north (away from the ocean). Drive 4.1 miles and turn right on Lang Ranch Parkway. Continue 0.8 miles and park where the Lang Ranch Parkway makes a sharp left. \nPlease review our guidelines to participate in our hikes. Restrictions apply for your safety and ours. Here are some highlights: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\nIf you’re on the “Attending” list but your plans change\, please change your RSVP to “Not Attending”\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\nPlan on completing the entire hike at a reasonable pace or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo dogs allowed.\n\nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY\nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Sulphur Mountain’s Majesty
DESCRIPTION:This will probably be the last day we can do this hike until winter because it is getting hotter. There is a new restaurant in Oak View for lunch\, Noa’s. This hike goes up Sulpher Road through petroleum-scented oak forest\, through the cattle grazing ranch land at the top to the overlook above the town of Oak View. We’ll have spectacular views of the Ojai Valley\, Lake Casitas\, and the mountains to the north. Our gently-sloping route will be approximately 6 miles\, with about 500’ of elevation. \nParking is limited on Sulphur Mountain Road\, and it’s well outside our typical hiking area\, so carpooling is encouraged! \nLunch afterwards at Noa’s Cafe\, a mile north on 33\, on the right. (formerly J&M Cafe) \nOur usual restrictions apply – no plus-ones; no dogs; only show up if you’re on the “Attending” list.

DESCRIPTION:This out-and-back hike on the Backbone Trail is about 8 miles with about 1\,550′ of total elevation gain. The hike starts and ends at our usual trailhead for the Encinal Canyon hike. Along the way we’ll see the monument commemorating Arnold Schwarzenegger’s donation of the last 40 acres to complete the end-to-end Backbone Trail. \nTrailhead Directions: Exit 101 at Kanan Road\, and drive south to the Mulholland Road intersection\, where you’ll turn right. Keep to the left\, as Encinal splits off within the first half mile or so. Drive west on Encinal to the parking lot at the trailhead. \nPlease review the guidelines to participate in our hikes. SUMMARY:Revisiting Cheseboro Ridge Trail - Gentler 5 miles\, 800'
DESCRIPTION:Since our visit here in March\, the hills above Calabasas have become lush\, brilliant green\, and bright yellow with mustard\, benefitting from the recent rains. This out-and-back hike offers a little-used access route to Cheseboro Ridge\, which runs above our typical Sheep Corral hike. A combination of graded gravel and single-track trail ascends steadily to a high point with great visibility to Bell Canyon\, Hidden Hills\, Cheseboro Canyon\, and Mount Boney in the distance. The wildflowers are in bloom\, if you can shove aside the mustard far enough to see them. Last year’s patches of calabash gourds are scattered across the hillsides. \nLunch afterwards will be at the restaurants in the northwest corner of the little strip mall at Agoura Road and Las Virgenes\, including Mediterranean Pita Grill and Sharky’s. \nDIRECTIONS \nThe Morrison Ranch Road Trailhead is NOT at the north end of Las Virgenes\, but rather\, only 6/10 mile north of the 101 interchange\, a half-mile north of the fire station\, and at the northern end of a white fence. Set your GPS for 5526 Las Virgenes Road\, Calabasas. If you’ve got to Thousand Oaks Boulevard\, you’ve gone too far. Look for my Prius on the west side of the street. You may need to do a legal U-turn to park nearest the trailhead. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY\nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY \nThe hike hosts are volunteers and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. SUMMARY:Ride the Two Winds (Dos Vientos) - Gentler Friendly Hike
DESCRIPTION:This is a second and easier hike for Tuesday. Jaesoon is on vacation. \nThis hike will loop around the periphery of Dos Vientos Open Space\, passing Twin Ponds\, overlooking Potrero Road and the Oxnard Plain with the Channel Islands in the background. We will cross 3 streets along the way. \nThis hike is about 5.0 miles with 800 feet of elevation gain. \nPace: This is a gentler friendly hike. We will go at a slightly slower pace than the Intermediate Trailblazer Hikes and we will finish in about 2-2 1/2 hours\, but this is not a beginner hike. Faster hikers are welcome to join us so long as they are willing to hike at the slower pace of the group or wait at the forks on the trail. There are many confusing side trails in Dos Vientos so I ask that everyone plan to stay in contact with the group\, not too fast and not too slow! \nPlease note this trail is very exposed (no shade) and there is no water along the way. \nDIRECTIONS: From the 101 Freeway in Newbury Park\, exit at Borchard Road. Drive 3.4 miles and turn into the Dos Vientos Community Park on the right\, just after Via Ricardo (and before Via Las Brisas). Meet near the tennis courts to the left. \nIf you are coming from the NW\, exit Wendy and turn left on Wendy and then a right on Borchard to Dos Vientos Community Park. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY\nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY:\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours:\nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\nUnregistered or waitlisted will be turned away\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\nPlan on completing the entire hike or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo dogs\nAll participants must be 18 or older\, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Santa Cruz Island Day Trip with Island Packers
DESCRIPTION:Nancy and I are scheduling another trip to Santa Cruz Island. It’s becoming a yearly thing. I just bought my ticket from Ventura Harbor to The Scorpion Cove landing. I booked the 10:00 AM departure (OUTBOUND)\, as there were more spaces on that boat. We will return on the 3:00 PM boat (INBOUND). You have to book OUTBOUND and INBOUND separately. \nThere will be no limit from us and you can bring as many friends as you like. Please book your passage before you sign-up with Trailblazers\, as the boat may fill-up. You don’t need to sign-up your friends on meet-up. \nThe trip by boat lasts a little over an hour leaving Ventura Harbor at 10:00 AM. They want us to be at the dock 45 minutes prior to departure (9:15 AM). Once we arrive on the Island\, we’ll hike 2.5 miles out to Potato Harbor via Cavern Point\, and return along Potato Harbor Road. When we reach the camp ground we’ll have lunch. The hike is very moderate and should return us in plenty of time for some sightseeing at the historic ranch\, museum\, or extra hiking into Scorpion Canyon. Our return trip leaves Scorpion Anchorage at 3:00 PM. \nYou must bring your own WATER and FOOD. There are no concessions on the island. You can drop your food in one of their protective boxes so you don’t have to carry it on the hike. You will also have to book your own passage on the boat. The price (RT) is $65 for age 55+ and $70 for the younger crowd. PLEASE BOOK YOUR TRIP BEFORE YOU SIGN-UP WITH TRAILBLAZERS. Feel free to bring a guest. SUMMARY:Green\, Green\, Green!! Half New Millennium Loop
DESCRIPTION:I’ve lived here 36 years and never have I seen these hills so green! Let’s hike a portion of the New Millennium Trail in Calabasas to enjoy the feeling of renewal! We will start at the Bark Park in Calabasas\, following a narrow single track trail up to the loop\, and turn right (counter clockwise) to do the back side of this trail\, through the green and wildflowers. We’ll climb up above the homes in the inside gate of The Oaks\, the high rent part of town\, to a lovely 360 degree vista point overlooking Mulholland Highway\, Calabasas Peak\, the ocean and Calabasas. Then we’ll turn around and do it all again the other direction. \nOut and back\, we’ll travel 8 miles and 1200′ gain. The trail gets quite narrow with soft brush and mustard…might wear long pants if you’re inclined. \nMeeting place is the Calabasas Bark Park at 4232 Las Virgenes Rd. From the 101\, head toward the ocean for 1.2 miles and turn left into the parking area. \nPlease do not leave anything of value in your car\, at this or any other trailhead. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. SUMMARY:Ride the Two Winds (Dos Vientos) - Gentler Friendly Hike
DESCRIPTION:This is a second hike for Thursday\, in case Peter’s hike fills up. SUMMARY:Ray Miller Trail in La Jolla Canyon ~ Gentler Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:The trail is an awesome blend of ocean and mountain views in Malibu’s La Jolla Canyon. We will start from the trailhead which follows the canyon eastward\, away from the ocean. Then\, it quickly brings you back toward the ocean at a gradual incline. There’s a great lookout spot where it gives you a breathtaking view of the Pacific Coast Highway against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean\, with sweeping views toward Mugu Rock on the west and Sycamore Cove on the east. After another peak\, you’ll start a slight decline that brings you to the fire road where we will turn around. Along the way\, we’ll be treated to magnificent sweeping views of La Jolla and Big Sycamore Canyons\, and of course\, the largest ocean in the world. On a clear day\, the Channel Islands are easily within sight\, although the marine layer has been pretty prominent this summer.\nThis is a 5-6 mile out and back hike with an elevation gain/loss of about 1000’. \nDirections: \nFrom Los Angeles\, take the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) north\, 22 miles from Malibu Canyon Rd. Across the street from Thornhill Broome Beach is the entrance to La Jolla Canyon. It is very clearly marked. Turn right. \nFrom Ventura\, take PCH eastward\, and turn left 4 miles after Las Posas Road into La Jolla Canyon. \nHeads up: There is a parking fee in the lot (or free with state parking pass). There is free parking on PCH just a short walk to the trailhead. \nPlease review the guidelines (guidelines) to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike at a moderate pace\, or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo “Plus Ones” or dogs on Weekday Trailblazer hikes.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Las Virgenes Canyon/Cheeseboro Ridge - a Gentler Hike
DESCRIPTION:This week we’ll head over to the east end of the Conejo Valley for our hike. This is similar to the hike that Steve led a couple of weeks ago\, but it has a different starting point at the end of Las Virgenes. The hills are amazingly green right now\, so we’ll enjoy them again. We’ll start at the Las Virgenes Canyon trailhead at the north end of Las Virgenes Canyon. The trail begins with a steady climb up from Las Virgenes Canyon before climbing over to Cheeseboro Ridge. The climb will be a bit steep\, but we’ll be on a good fireroad. We head south on the Cheeseboro Ridge Edison Rd before completing the clockwise loop back down to the start. Along the way we’ll see some great vistas into Las Virgenes Canyon\, Ahmanson Ranch and Cheeseboro Canyon. \nStatistics: 5.7 miles with about 1000’ of climbing. \nDirections: From the 101 in Agoura\, turn north on Las Virgenes Canyon Road. Drive about 1.5 miles to the end of the road and park on the left side of the road. The trailhead is marked clearly.
