SUMMARY:Beginner Hike: Rancho Sierra Vista Trefoil - 5 miles\, 650' - Weather Permitting
DESCRIPTION:This is a Beginner hike – that means no steep climbs\, no loose soil or slippery rocks on trails\, limited distance\, and limited elevation gain. If you regularly do our faster/longer/higher Intermediate hikes\, you might want to consider leaving room for newcomers to the group. \nRain is forecast for Thursday; 80% chance before 10 a.m. If it’s raining at my (nearby) home\, or at the trailhead\, the hike will be cancelled. \n—————————————-\nFrom the National Park website:\nTwo threads of local history intertwine to establish the identity of Rancho Sierra Vista/ Satwiwa. Ranch structures and introduced grasses represent over a century of ranching\, while native plants reflect an environment that Chumash Indians lived in for thousands of years. \nThe gentle slopes yield trails that picnickers\, hikers\, bikers\, and equestrians enjoy during every season. Big Sycamore Canyon Trail descends from Satwiwa to the Pacific Ocean along a historic Chumash trade route. \nThe Satwiwa Loop Trail is designated for hikers only\, and meanders through an area considered sacred by the Chumash. Keep an eye out for deer and coyote in the coastal sage scrub\, hawks and falcons soaring overhead\, and sweeping views of Boney Mountain and Sycamore Canyon. Follow all trail guidelines by only biking or horseback riding on designated trails. \nThe May 2013 Springs Fire burned much of Point Mugu State Park and portions of Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa. Whether recreating on foot\, bike or horseback\, be on the lookout for signs of plants\, soil\, and animals recovering from the effects of this wildfire.\n—————————————-\nWe will park at the paved main lot for Rancho Sierra Vista. Exit 101 at Lynn Road\, drive southwest 5.5 miles and turn left under the stone and timber archway. Drive in all the way\, past two smaller lots\, to the lot nearest the vault toilets and EV chargers. Google Maps does not provide accurate directions. \nThe hike will be a series of low ups & downs. The most significant climb will be mid-hike\, followed by more gentle changes. \nPlease review the revised guidelines to participate in our hikes. We are requiring proof of vaccination to join a hike. \nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nProof of vaccination required\nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\nNo dogs on this or any other Weekday Trailblazers hikes\nAll participants must be 18 or older\, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.\n\nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals. \nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. By participating in any posted event\, you are taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions. \nIf you choose to sign up for this or any Weekday Trailblazers Meetup event\, you are releasing the Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group\, its organizers\, and sponsors from all liability in case of possible injuries. Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience. You agree that you can navigate back to your transportation by yourself\, and agree to do so if you fall behind and lose track of the main body of hikers.

SUMMARY:Wildwood Central Park ~ Gentler Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:Wildwood Park in Thousand Oaks is one of the most versatile local parks there is\, with 27 miles of trails skittering through rocky cliffs\, cacti-filled desert environs\, volcanic rock\, riparian forest\, and a cool\, watery canyon. Highlights of the hike include waterfalls incorporating 40’ Paradise waterfalls along with a long creek\, Indian caves\, volcanic rock cliffs\, and wildflowers throughout. Wildwood’s archetypal western look served as the set for The Rifleman\, Gunsmoke\, and Wagon Train back in the day\, as well as the movie Spartacus. Currently\, it’s very beautiful with an abundance of wildflowers and California poppies in addition to powerful waterfalls.\nIt will start at Moonridge Trail and pass through various trails with bridges\, waterfalls\, crossing streams and tree canopies over approximately 5-6 miles with about a 1000’ elevation gain/loss. \nHowever\, please note below:\nMar. 24\, 2023 – COSCA open space and trails will reopen on Saturday\, 3/25. Please note that foot bridges in Wildwood Canyon have not been reset yet as water levels are still too high. Please also be cautious if you encounter muddy patches on trails. \nDirections:\nFrom the 101 in Thousand Oaks\, turn north on Lynn Road and continue 2.6 miles to Avenida De Los Arboles\, then turn left. Continue for about a mile to the end and turn into the Wildwood parking lot on the left. \nFrom the 118\, travel west to the 23\, exit at Avenida De Los Arboles and turn right. Drive further than you remember having to drive to this trailhead (10 or 15 minutes). Turn left into the parking lot when the road ends. \nPlease review the guidelines (link to the guidelines) to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nProof of vaccination required.\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike at a moderate pace\, or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo “Plus Ones” or dogs on Weekday Trailblazer hikes.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:8.5 miles ~ Los Robles Trail to Angel Vista ~ Intermediate Hike
DESCRIPTION:http://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/b/f/8/6/event_22189030.jpeg \nSpace Mountain is the name for Los Robles Trail West\, starting at Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks and switchbacking up the hill to the west. No one seems to know why it’s called Space Mountain\, though maybe the Disney ride inspired it. Maybe former major league pitcher Bill “Spaceman” Lee had something to do with it. Maybe it’s the final frontier. Come out and throw your equally ludicrous guess into the ring. \nWe’ll hike up to Angel Vista for the views and a short break before turning around to hike back down to our starting point. \nWe will hike about 8.5 miles total with about 1350’ of gain. \nUPDATE: Please review the revised guidelines to participate in our hikes. We are requiring proof of vaccination to join a hike. Here are some highlights and a link to the guidelines:\nhttps://www.meetup.com/The-Weekday-Trailblazers/about/\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours:\nProof of vaccination required\nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\nPlan on completing the entire hike at a brisk pace or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level. \nDirections: From the 101 in Thousand Oaks\, turn south on Moorpark Road. We will meet in the parking lot at the corner of Moorpark and Greenmeadow. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. SUMMARY:Powerline Trail to Conejo Peak - Gentler Friendly
DESCRIPTION:Thursday’s forecast is for 50% chance of rain. If it’s raining at 7:30 a.m.\, the hike will be cancelled – please check before departing for the trailhead. \nFor our Thursday Gentler hike\, we will hike the Powerline Trail to Conejo Peak\, including a brief stop at the “teardrop” loop below the final (and skippable) climb to the peak. Great views of the Pacific\, Channel Islands\, Oxnard Plain\, Conejo Valley\, and (if clear) snow-covered Mt. Baldy and peaks east and north. \nThis area was completely burned over by the 2013 Springs Fire\, and the peak area saw a small wildfire in the last two years\, but has recovered well. The Edison road is rocky\, and has washouts from the recent rains. There is one short but steep section of the Edison road just before the teardrop loop and our rendezvous point. \nIf you climb to the peak (optional)\, this hike is 5.2 miles\, with an elevation gain of 1\,350 feet. Trekking poles are recommended\, as our descent will be fairly steep over loose gravel. \nIf you elect to skip the peak\, the hike is just over 4 miles\, with an elevation gain of 850 feet. Our rendezvous point has seen some activity recently\, and some construction material is on the ground nearby. \nWe’ll start at the Via Ricardo trailhead in Dos Vientos\, walk over the hill above the Camarillo quarry (watch for the “Unstable Ground – Gravitational Anomalies” sign)\, and then up the Powerline Trail. Those who want to continue the climb will do so like the mountain goats we are\, and then traverse the rocky meadow at the top to the peak\, where we will gather around the (now missing) flagpole for a photo\, and inspect the set of new lead-acid batteries someone has deposited there. We’ll carefully descend through the rocky cleft back to the Powerline Trail where we’ll rejoin our compatriots\, and descend to the cars. \nDirections \nGoogle and Apple Maps direction are reliable. \nFrom the east\, exit 101 at Borchard\, and drive southwest 3.4 miles to Via Ricardo\, the first right-hand turn after the hilly pass from Newbury Park into Dos Vientos. Turn left onto Via Las Brisas\, then drive north for 1.4 miles. Turn right onto Borchard\, then immediately left onto Via Ricardo\, then follow instructions above. \nBoots on at 8:45\, ready to hike for a 9:00 a.m. departure! \nPlease do not leave anything of value in your car\, at this or any other trailhead. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY\nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Fall In To the Gap - Latigo to Corral Canyon ~ Intermediate Hike
DESCRIPTION:Today we’ll hike the Backbone Trail looking for wildflowers. We’ll begin at Latigo Canyon and walk on dirt and stuff until we reach the familiar sandstone structures of Mesa Peak Motorway. Along the way\, we’ll cross Castro Crest and descend into Upper Solstice Canyon before we climb to Mesa Peak Motorway\, at the top of Corral Canyon. \nWe’re starting high\, dipping down\, then rising again from Latigo to Castro Crest for broad views of mountains and canyons. The descent from Castro Crest is the standard chaparral-blanketed fare we’re accustomed to in this area. Once on the floor of Upper Solstice\, we’ll “ford” seasonal streams and check for the charred remnants of the previous cover. The climb up to Mesa Peak Motorway becomes increasingly rocky\, leveling off for an amble over to the sandstone giants and ocean views we all love. (Poles may prove to be useful.) \nWe will return the way we came. \nTotal distance is 8.4 miles\, with 1650’ of elevation gain. \nPlease review the guidelines to participate in our hikes. Here are some highlights.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours:\nProof of vaccination required (if you haven’t shown it).\nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list.\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike.\nPlan on sticking with the group\, and completing the entire hike at a reasonable pace or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo dogs please.\nBring ample hydration. \nDirections: \nFrom the 101\, take Kanan Dune Road south for 6.8 miles. Turn left\, heading east on Latigo Canyon Road\, and drive three miles to the unmarked dirt lot on the left. Use your odometer to gauge the distance. \nFrom PCH\, drive 7.3 miles inland on Latigo Canyon Road. After passing Upper Ramirez Motorway\, turn right into the dirt pullout at the trailhead. The parking area is unmarked\, so watch your odometer. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nThe hike hosts are volunteers and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Kanan Dume to Castro Peak OAB (Fast Paced)
DESCRIPTION:AUGUST 2022 UPDATE: Please review the revised guidelines to participate in our hikes. Here are some highlights and a link to the guidelines: \nhttps://www.meetup.com/The-Weekday-Trailblazers/about/ \nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours:\n*Proof of vaccination required \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\n\nOur Out and Back hike will take us on a less-traveled but quite beautiful part of the 60-mile Backbone Trail\, which runs through the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area from Will Rogers State Park in the east to Point Mugu in the west. \nThe route begins at Kanan Dume Road and goes southerly a short distance\, allowing us to cross over the southernmost tunnel (Tunnel 1) above Kanan Dume Road. We then proceed easterly roughly 4 miles and up 1250 feet\, gradually winding our way up and through Latigo Canyon\, crossing Latigo Canyon Road\, and then ending at a saddle or on a bluff immediately south of Castro Peak with spectacular Pacific views. \nhttp://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/3/8/0/6/event_101654342.jpeg \nThe terrain is a mix of single and double-file trail. The majority of our out and back hike is wooded and shaded canyon trails\, offering periodic glimpses of the Pacific\, but the route eventually gives way to open hillsides and ridgelines\, and an open area over the Pacific. \nThe total distance for this hike will be approximately 7 miles with 1550 feet of elevation gain. \nNo dogs allowed on the hike. \nDirections: \nFrom the 101 – exit at the Kanan Road exit and drive south (toward the ocean) 7.8 miles\, going through two of the three tunnels on this road (which changes name to Kanan Dume Road). Turn right into the “Backbone Trail” parking area\, just before entering the third tunnel. \nFrom PCH – turn up South Kanan Dume Road. Drive 4.4 miles from PCH\, going through one tunnel\, and then turn left into the “Backbone Trail” parking area\, almost immediately after coming out of the tunnel. Free parking is available at the trailhead. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Oak Creek Canyon to Los Padres Loop ~ Gentler Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:Oak Creek Canyon Trail is a rather special trail in Los Robles Open Space that is designed for the blind as well as the sighted. The all-access trail is shaded by a canopy of oaks\, while the loop trail spends more time in the chaparral. The trails form a U-shape that is connected by hiking a tenth of a mile on Greenmeadow Avenue.\nWe will start at Oak Creek Canyon and proceed to a connector trail a short distance until we meet a junction with Los Robles Trail East. Along this big loop\, you’ll travel through a couple of very nice oak groves\, and get some great views throughout the Los Robles (along the Los Robles Overlook/Scenic View Loop) and Los Padres trails encompassed in the Robles Open Space. There is a very short section along streets/sidewalks when we return back to the latter part of Oak Creek Canyon Trail and complete the big loop.\nThis hike will be a five-mile loop with about a 900’ elevation gain/loss. \nDirection: From the 101 freeway\, drive to the south end of Moorpark Rd\, turn right on Greenmeadow Ave.\, and go a half mile to the parking lot. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals.\nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. By participating in any posted event\, you are taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions.\nIf you choose to sign up for this or any Weekday Trailblazers Meetup event\, you are releasing the Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers from all liability in case of possible injuries. SUMMARY:Hill & Hawk Canyons to trails with wildflower blooms - Gentler Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:This hike will be one of probably three hikes for next Tuesday. This hike will be the slowest\, although it is a gentler intermediate hike. Please only sign up for one hike next Tuesday\, so if you are a jackrabbit\, you might want to wait for Laurie or Steve to post. This figure 8 hike starts at the parking area in Hill Canyon\, we’ll cross the bridge over the runoff creek\, and stroll a mile before turning onto the Hawk Canyon Trail. The Hawk Canyon Trail connects to Western Plateau Trail and Peninsula Trail which runs back down rejoining the Western Plateau Trail to The Hawk Canyon Trail. Then\, we will hike up the hidden trail and descend back into Hill Canyon and follow it all the way back to the parking lot. We will take a few breaks along the way to wait for everyone to catch up. We’ll see lots of green hills and meadows and hopefully an abundance of wildflowers blooming. \nThis ribbon shaped hike will be about 6 miles with an elevation gain of approximately 1000 feet. \nDirections: \nFrom Moorpark Road in the Santa Rosa Valley\, drive west on Santa Rosa Road for 3.7 miles\, turn left (south) on Hill Canyon Road for about 0.6 miles to the parking lot. \nFrom the 101 Freeway in Camarillo\, take exit 52 onto Santa Rosa Road and drive northeast. After 5 miles\, turn right onto Hill Canyon Road for about 0.6 miles to the parking lot. \nPlease review the guidelines (link to the guidelines) to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nProof of vaccination required.\nPlease do not show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nNo dogs.\nNo “Plus Ones” Weekday Trailblazer hikes.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Intermediate: Malibu Canyon To Mesa Peak!
DESCRIPTION:Let’s head up to Mesa Peak\, arguably the prettiest and best conditioning hike in the Santa Monica Mountains\, on the Backbone\, and opposite Corral Canyon from last week’s hike. SUMMARY:Ray Miller Trail in La Jolla Canyon ~ Gentler Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:I pre-hiked the trail this morning and it is absolutely stunning with wildflowers beside the awesome blend of ocean and mountain views in Malibu’s La Jolla Canyon. The trail follows the canyon eastward\, away from the ocean. Then\, it quickly brings you back toward the ocean at a gradual incline. There’s a great lookout spot where it gives you a breathtaking view of the Pacific Coast Highway against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean\, with sweeping views toward Mugu Rock on the west and Sycamore Cove on the east. After another peak\, you’ll start a slight decline that brings you to the fire road where we will turn around. Along the way\, we’ll be treated to magnificent sweeping views of La Jolla and Big Sycamore Canyons\, and of course\, the largest ocean in the world. On a clear day\, the Channel Islands are easily within sight.\nThis is a 5-6 mile out and back hike with an elevation gain/loss of about 1100’. \nDirections: \nFrom Los Angeles\, take the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) north\, 22 miles from Malibu Canyon Rd. Across the street from Thornhill Broome Beach is the entrance to La Jolla Canyon. It is very clearly marked. Turn right. \nFrom Ventura\, take PCH eastward\, and turn left 4 miles after Las Posas Road. \nHeads up: There is a parking fee in the lot (or free with state parking pass). There is free parking on PCH just a short walk to the trailhead. \nPlease review the guidelines (https://www.meetup.com/The-Weekday-Trailblazers/about/) to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike at a moderate pace\, or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo “Plus Ones” or dogs on Weekday Trailblazer hikes.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. SUMMARY:INTERMEDIATE hike: Creek Crossings/Waterfall/Wildflowers on Upper Sycamore
DESCRIPTION:One of three hikes posted this Tuesday – please only sign up for one! And if you can’t make it\, please cancel as early as possible so waitlisted folks can get notice and attend. \nNote we will be crossing water (hopefully) up to a dozen times. I strongly recommend waterproof boots and trekking poles. Additionally\, poison oak is abundant in parts of the trail\, so wear pants and long sleeves\, or beware! \nSteve’s write-up from 4 years ago still works! (although I can’t attest to the amphibians facts…..) After the rains over the past couple of months\, there’s plenty of water flowing down the mountainside. Let’s go enjoy the sights and sounds of the water\, and the newly hatched frogs and other amphibians https://www.nps.gov/samo/learn/nature/amphibians.htm. \nThis hike will start at the Rancho Sierra Vista parking lot\, proceed down the asphalt to the bridge\, then up the Upper Sycamore Canyon trail (including a dozen shallow creek crossings – maybe fewer as it’s drying fast) to its junction with Danielson Fire Road. We’ll continue up to the waterfall (one more creek crossing)\, then continue up to the “Peace\, Love\, Joy” memorial at the top of the stream (another creek crossing) that feeds it. Once back down to the big oaks\, we’ll proceed up the dirt fire road enjoying amazing wildflowers\, crossing the meadow diagonally to Satwiwa\, and back to the cars. \nTotal distance is 7 miles or so with roughly 1300 or so feet gain. \nBoots on at 8:45\, ready to hike for a 9:00 a.m. departure!\nPlease do not leave anything of value in your car\, at this or any other trailhead. \nLunch at 3 Amigos. \nDirections: From the east\, exit 101 at Lynn\, and drive southwest 5.5 miles to the turn-off just beyond the “National / State Parks” sign. Turn left\, under the gateway\, and drive to the end\, near the restrooms. \nhttps://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/b/9/5/d/600_460187453.jpeg \nFrom the west (Camarillo and beyond)\, exit 101 at Wendy\, drive south to Lynn Road. Turn right onto Lynn\, drive southwest (crossing Reino) to the turn-off just beyond the “National / State Parks” sign. Turn left\, under the gateway\, and drive to the end\, near the restrooms. \nhttps://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/b/9/6/9/600_460187465.jpeg \nFrom Port Hueneme\, Point Mugu\, and Oxnard\, drive up Potrero Road\, which turns into Lynn at the top of the canyon. Turn right into the Rancho Sierra Vista parking area once past the horse corral. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY\nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY:\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. This hike will go from the beach up to the picnic table on the fire road\, approximately 5.5 miles. We will hike a little slower than the other hikes. We will follow the fire road down to the parking lot. \nDirections: \nWe will be meeting at the Sycamore Canyon Campground and day use parking area on Pacific Coast hwy. This trailhead and parking area is a few miles south from the La Jolla Canyon Parking area where we go to hike the Ray Miller Trail. \nParking is available in the campground for $12 (or free with a State Parking Permit\, the 2022 Parking Permit is still good through 2023). There may not be free parking on PCH. \nThere are also restrooms at the day parking lot. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group.
SUMMARY:Hunt for California Poppies and Trail Exploration ~ Gentler Friendly
DESCRIPTION:A few years ago\, Weekday Trailblazer members helped build a trail that extends north from the Westlake Village YMCA up into the hills west of Lindero Canyon Road. We will hike both the Bowfield Trail and Wishbone Trail on this outing. \nThis route is about 5 miles with an elevation gain of about 1050’. \nI pre-hiked the route on Saturday and the poppies were abundant. There are a couple of short sections of the trail that are a bit overgrown so you might think about wearing long pants if you are sensitive to overgrowth. \nDIRECTIONS: Find the trailhead by exiting 101 at Lindero Canyon\, and go north to Thousand Oaks Boulevard. Turn left\, and immediately turn slightly right\, and uphill\, to the new park high above the Boulevard. At the top\, turn left\, and drive to the far left (west) end of the ball fields. \nThere are restrooms and water fountains near the trailhead and the ball fields. We’ll adjourn afterwards to the eateries at the Northeast corner of Lindero Canyon and Thousand Oaks Blvd. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY\n(IMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY): \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. SUMMARY:Trail Restoration at the 2023 Santa Monica Mtns Trail Days\, April 21-23
DESCRIPTION:With all the rain we’ve had this winter\, the trails in Pt. Mugu State Park (Sycamore Canyon) have a lot of ruts to fill and brush to cut back. \nHow does free camping at the Danielson Ranch in Point Mugu State Park\, a barbecue dinner\, coffee & bagels in the mornings and the chance to win one of a few dozen thank-you drawing prizes – in exchange for some much needed work on our trails sound? \nYou can come and help for the weekend or for a day! For the 40th year\, trail users are gathering in April to work on the trails we love. In partnership with State Parks and the National Park Service\, we have trail crew leaders from the Santa Monica Mountains Trails Council\, the Sierra Club Task Force and Concerned Off-Road Bicyclist Association to teach you the basics of trail work and then guide you as we work on several different trails in the park. Choices for the level of work you want to do range from easy to very difficult. We welcome all ages and this is a great opportunity for families and outdoor groups. When the weekend is over\, your trails are in better shape and we all benefit. \nWork days are Saturday and Sunday morning with optional camping on Friday and Saturday nights. The barbecue dinner is Saturday night. \nFor more details\, visit this web resources: \n\nOverall information\nSpecific details and schedule\nTrail Days flyer\nOnline registration and camping reservations form\n\nPlease register before April 17 so we’ll be able to make adequate plans!

SUMMARY:Earlier Intermediate 8-9 miles Ray Miller Trail and Overlook Trail in Malibu
DESCRIPTION:How about an earlier option on the same trail? Come out in the cool early morning for the same hike. They will see us coming back. \nJoin us on an out and back hike up the Ray Miller Trail and the Overlook Trail. We’ll turn back around the Guadalasca Trail intersection. Poppies were plentiful on the Overlook trail a couple of week ago. We’ll enjoy beautiful ocean views as we descend. We’ll pick up about 1500’ gain on this 8-9 mile adventure. \nLying along the brilliant blue Pacific Ocean at the west end of Malibu (just shy of Port Hueneme)\, the swelling blue ocean is rivaled in beauty by the undulating native California grasslands. On a clear day\, the Channel Islands are easily within sight. \nMost of the trail is exposed\, so sunscreen is highly recommended. It may be mosquito season so it’s up to you whether you should bring bug repellent. \nWe’ll meet in the parking lot near the Ray Miller Trailhead (look for the brilliant yellow sign). There is a parking fee in the lot (or free with state parking pass). There is free parking on PCH just a short walk to the parking area. \nhttps://a248.e.akamai.net/secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/6/7/4/a/event_93326442.jpeg \nPlease review the ongoing guidelines to participate in our morning hikes. SUMMARY:Intermediate 8-9 miles Ray Miller Trail and Overlook Trail in Malibu
DESCRIPTION:Join us on an out and back hike up the Ray Miller Trail and the Overlook Trail. Across the street from Thornhill Broome Beach is the entrance to La Jolla Canyon. It is very clearly marked. Turn right. \nFrom Ventura\, take PCH eastward\, and turn left 4 miles after Las Posas Road. \nDo NOT leave anything of value in your car\, at this or any other trailhead. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group.
