DESCRIPTION:https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/san-gorgonio-mountain-from-fish-creek?u=i \nHello Fellow Hikers\,San Gorgonio Mountain\, also known locally as Mount San Gorgonio\, or Old Greyback\, is the highest peak in Southern California and the Transverse Ranges at 11\,503 feet (3\,506 m)Spanish missionaries in the area during the early 17th century named the peak after Saint Gorgonius. Since it is the highest point in a region which is separated from higher peaks (e.g. in the Sierra Nevada) by relatively low terrain\, San Gorgonio Mountain is one of the most topographically prominent peaks in the United States. It is ranked 7th among peaks in the 48 contiguous states and 18th overall. This route from Fish creek is the most gradual trek up to the peak but also the longest. I have a permit for 10 so would like to invite 9 fellow hikers to join me. This will not be a fast paced hike as we will have a long day ahead of us. From this route you will need to drive at least 8 miles on a bumpy dirt road this is one of the reasons (besides length) this route is less traveled. do not depend on water sources on this hike as it has only two areas close to the start of the hike that may or may not have water. This is one of those bucket list hikes and also part of the Peak Challenge. . It is paid parking. This is a pretty hike that will take you through several wet creek crossings and over a few bridges. This trail has plenty of shaded areas throughout the hike\, This is more of a easy moderate trail as only one section has a climb ( and that’s the last mile back up to the car ) This trail is mostly a pleasant low incline hike that ends at a waterfall. Great hike for beginners ( that can handle the last mile ) to advance that want to get in your steps\, miles and that last mile will get you your floors. And be done before the heat hits. Yes there is shade and water but we are hiking in the Mountains so it will still get warm. As we leave the parking lot (parking is free and it’s a paved lot) will make some inclines to a open field section to make our way to the top of the mountain. The grade is real gradual but enough to get your heart rate up. There is shade but only through sections so we plan to start on time and be out before it gets to hot. And open meadow sections. Also sections with gradual climbs. The trail will end at Mulholland drive will we will make our way back. Now there are two trails in this area we will be following Stunt High Trail as it’s more shaded and on this day the temps are supposed to be heating back up. Some reviews on AllTrails is referring to the second trail which is a bit harder of a hike with zero shade.
