SUMMARY:Coquina Mine Trail (Loop)
DESCRIPTION:https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/coquina-mine-trail–3 \nHello Fellow Hikers\,\nWe have another request to do this trail again…Will be hiking to Coquina Mine in Simi Valley. A little history on the trail from Alltrails…. ” This was a mining operation that started in 1929 and ceased in year 1935. Limestone was mined here for an extremely pure form of Calcium Carbonate (Calcite CaCO3) As you start to travel further up the trail you’ll find abandoned mining equipment with large boulders of both Limestone and Fossils. The trail will end at the mining site with the largest mining equipment abandoned there. This was a strip mining operation so there are no shafts or adits ” This trail is a out and back but will will be doing this as a loop trail. \nTrail mileage about 7 miles\nElevation gain about 1100 ft\nDogs allowed\nWill be a loop trail\nRated Moderate hike\nFree street parking \nThis hike will Start off on a paved road for about 200 feet then becomes a dirt fire road through a Canyon until we turn off to make our climb to Coquina Mine. From here we will be on a single track trail. Once we leave the top of Coquina Mine we will make our way back down to a split were we will start our loop. This section will be narrow and follows the side of a mountain were will follow the backside mountains of Simi Valley. Most of the trail will be in mountain ranges and canyons with no views of housing or commercial buildings. Generally a lot of wildlife in this area so hopefully we will get lucky to see some within eyesight. Just a friendly reminder to please bring enough water for the entire duration of the hike as well as snacks.\nI will load a AllTrails link below that will give you directions to the trailhead location.as well as pics of the trail stats ratings map ect. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/coquina-mine-trail–3 \nAs of now there is no sweeper for this hike so please know if you feel you can not finish for any reason please turn back early \nPlease check back on hike info as rain\, heat advisory\, strong winds or low attendance may cause the hike to be rescheduled \nPlease remember to bring all essentials you’ll need for a hike \nLast thing we will follow Jims most important rules.. \n1. Hike Your Own Hike\n2. Stop at all splits or junctions on the trail for others to catch up \nLiability Disclaimer:\nAnd last….The Organizer\, Co Organizer\, Assistant Organizers and Event hosts in this group are not professional guides. SUMMARY:Mount Wilson via Little Santa Anita Canyon
DESCRIPTION:https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/mt-wilson-via-little-santa-anita-canyon \nHello Fellow Hikers\,\nOkay let’s face it\, hiking on foot there is no easy way to get to the top of Mount Wilson. This is actually one of my favorite ways\, and it’s also the original route to the top. A lot of history on this trail. Will encounter shaded areas loaded with green vegetation a lot of incline (a lot) with open views with the towers at the top coming within view. Once at the top we are gonna make our way to the peak and if the cafe is open will stop for food. Expect a long day with closer to 16 miles and elevation gain closer to 5\,000. This is one of the 6 pack of peaks. Not recommended for beginners. Carpooling at our same meetup spot will be offered for anyone who wishes to carpool (Best donuts located 2325 Kuehner Dr # 127 Simi Valley off the 118 freeway at 7:00) I have attached the AllTrails link for directions\, pics\, and stats…https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/mt-wilson-via-little-santa-anita-canyon \nTrail out and back\nMiles about 16 (with the walk to the peak)\nElevation Gain about 5\,000 ft\nRated hard not for beginners\nDogs allowed (must be conditioned for a harder longer hike)\nParking neighborhood street parking \nAs of now there is no sweeper for this hike so please know if you feel you can not finish for any reason please turn back early \nPlease check back on hike info as rain\, heat advisory\, strong winds or low attendance may cause the hike to be rescheduled \nWe will always follow Jim’s Golden Rules: \n1. SUMMARY:Bulldog Loop Trail
DESCRIPTION:https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/bulldog-loop \nHello Fellow Hikers\,\nYour in for a treat if you have never hiked this trail. Will be starting our hike out of Malibu Creek State Park. Will be passing through the Mash and Planet of the Apes filming locations. Will also be taking some side trails to see both Century Lake and Rock Pond so expect our hike to be closer to 16 miles and our elevation gain closer to 3200-3400 ft. Will eventually come onto the Bulldog trail and will start our huffing and puffing (that will be me) there. The trail will take us to the a portion of the Backbone trail which is one of the most unige sections of the Backbone. Will be going up and on some of the rock formations (no climbing required) It will feel and look like you’re now in AZ or New Mexico. Will also take a quick side trail (if I can remember it) to Jim Morrison’s (from the Doors) secret spot where he wrote all his music. Will finally start our descent down a Canyon on the other side of the Mountain were we will start looping back. Some reviews stated it was hard to find the trail back at the last portion to there cars so they walked a short distance on the road but we will try to stay on trails only but just noted incase. We are also gonna start our hike out of Malibu Creek State Park as it accommodates more vehicles and the starting point on AllTrails only accommodates about 8 cars and it is a very popular spot as it has no fee. Malibu Creek State Park is a $10 fee. If you would like to find road parking which is free or start at the AllTrails spot please just make your way into MCSP and will be waiting at the restrooms next to the parking lot. Please note this is a hard trail and not suited for beginner hikers. I have attached the AllTrails link for pics\, and stats: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/us/california/bulldog-loop?mobileMap=false&ref=sidebar-static-map \nTrail loop\nMiles closer to 16\nElevation Gain about 3200-3400 ft\nRated hard\nDogs unfortunately not allowed in MCSP\nParking paved lot $10 fee\, road and alternate dirt lots in the area are free but fill up fast \nAs of now there is no sweeper for this hike so please know if you feel you can not finish for any reason please turn back early \nPlease check back on hike info as rain\, heat advisory\, strong winds or low attendance may cause the hike to be rescheduled \nWe will always follow Jim’s Golden Rules: \n1. SUMMARY:San Dimas Canyon to Sunset Peak Radio Towers
DESCRIPTION:https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/san-dimas-canyon-to-sunset-peak-radio-towers?u=i \n* We are gonna be doing this awesome hike for the second time if you joined us the first time…this time we will be doing the additional .25 mile to the actual towers so please note our distance will be closer to 18-18.5 miles with elevation gain closer to 5\,000 please note this is a very hard hike not suitable for beginners* \nHello Fellow Hikers\,\nAre you looking to get out and hit a challenging hike but don’t want to hit the popular peak hikes on the weekends? Yeah me neither. So join me on this less traveled but good distance with elevation gain hike. This trail starts off going up with switchbacks for the first 4 miles after that its a continuous climb to the top. Gorgeous views South over the whole valley and North of the Mountains. SUMMARY:San Bernardino Peak Trail via Angelus Oaks
DESCRIPTION:https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/san-bernardino-peak-trail-via-angelus-oaks \nHello Fellow Hikers\,\nGonna be hitting one of the bigger peaks out of the 6 pack of peaks. This one has just reopened this year from the 2020 El Dorado fire. This is an impressive 10\,649 summit. The landscape has changed due to the fire but the climb to the top will be the same. We will have close views of San Gorgonio Peak and further views of Baldy. This is a long drive so I will be staying with a few others at Angelus Oaks Lodge that offers cabins with a excellent price as its cash only and only a couple miles from the trailhead. The permit I have for the hike is for the max 12 people so we will not be moving anyone from the go list if we max out (unless someone drops off) Please know that the drive to the trailhead is a bit rocky. SUMMARY:Three Points to Pacifico Mountain Campground via Pacific Crest Trail
DESCRIPTION:https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/three-points-to-pacifico-mountain-campground/photos \nHello Fellow Hikers\,\nTime to get in a long endurance hike. This is gonna be a long day but worth the trek. This time of year we will probably see a lot of thru hikers on the PCT trail. This trail will be both exposed and shaded. This will be a great conditioning hike as it is gradual with the last part being the climb up. Some people have stated that the trail is longer but they did veer off the original map to take an easier way to the top and back. We will be on the PCT through the route so the trail should be easier to follow now that it is open after being closed due to covid. This is a forest setting surrounded by mountains. This is a lesser known trail besides the PCTers. The temps are supposed to cool down this weekend but bring extra water just incase. Carpooling at our same meetup spot will be offered for anyone who wishes to carpool or follow to the trailhead (Best donuts located 2325 Kuehner Dr # 127 Simi Valley off the 118 freeway at 5:45am) I have attached the AllTrails link for directions\, pics\, and stats: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/three-points-to-pacifico-mountain-campground/photos \nTrail out and back\nMiles 18.7\nElevation Gain 3234ft\nRated Hard\nDogs allowed but must be conditioned for a longer harder hike\nParking must have Adventure Pass displayed \nAs of now there is no sweeper for this hike so please know if you feel you can not finish for any reason please turn back early \nPlease check back on hike info as rain\, heat advisory\, strong winds or low attendance may cause the hike to be rescheduled \nWe will always follow Jim’s Golden Rules:\n1. Hike your own hike\n2. Please stop at every junction and split to wait for others to catch up \nPlease remember to bring all essentials you’ll need for a hike (you’ll need extra water for this one) \nLiability Disclaimer:\nAnd last….The Organizer\, Co Organizer\, Assistant Organizers and Event hosts in this group are not professional guides. DESCRIPTION:https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/mount-whitney-via-mount-whitney-trail \nPlease note… we have 8 spots all are filled at the moment but we do have permit holders that may not be able to go so I am gonna pull from the waitlist to take their places but it will not be in waitlist order sorry I need to make sure that all that attend will be able to handle the hike as well as their own transportation and lodging. Most in the group will be camping at Horseshoe Meadows or you can get a hotel room in Lone Pine. \nHello Fellow Hikers\,\nOkay I got permits to hike the Mount Whitney Trail! Mount Whitney is the highest mountain in the contiguous United States and the Sierra Nevada\, with an elevation of 14\,505 feet. This will be a ALL DAY hike. We plan to start at 12am to acclimate ourselves as we hike this BEAUTIFUL mountain. Our goal is to reach the summit by noon so we can do a little picture taking and relaxing before we make our trek back down the mountain. This is not a trail to be underestimated it is extremely hard and just as hard going down the mountain. We are gonna encounter several different lakes and several different views as well as possible weather changes. We are all gonna stay together on this one so patients is a must. This will not be like our normal Meetup this will be a group effort to get to the top but its a easy trail to follow so if anyone needs to turn back that won’t be a problem however I encourage everyone to download AllTrails and the offline map as that is what we will be following. I will leave more as far as meeting times ect as we get closer to the event… \nTrail out and back\nMiles 21\nRated hard\nElevation Gain 6646 ft\nDogs not allowed \nYou will need to bring trail runners or trail boots\, hiking poles\, plenty of water\, a life straw or hydration filter\, electrolytes\, food and snacks\, your cell phone\, be prepared for possible rain and wind so both light and cooler weather clothing (wind breaker or hoodie) please download AllTrails and the offline map. \nLiability Disclaimer:\nAnd last….The Organizer\, Co Organizer\, Assistant Organizers and Event hosts in this group are not professional guides. SUMMARY:Clyde Canyon\, Lower Loop\, and Charmichael Road Trail Loop
DESCRIPTION:https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/clyde-canyon-trail-to-lower-loop-trail-to-charmichael-road-trail-loop \nHello Fellow Hikers\,\nOkay back from the insane Whitney trip and have my truck back from the shop it is finally time to hit the dirt! This is a trail one of our members found (Kim Jung) 🙂 This will be a lot cooler hike as it has a nice ocean breeze. This is scenic with both ocean and mountain views that dogs are able to enjoy as this trail allows dogs. Even though it will be a cooler weekend it will still get warm and humid so will be able to hit this one and be done before it gets to warm as it’s a shorter hike. Carpooling at our same meetup spot will be offered for anyone who wishes to carpool or follow to the trailhead (Best donuts located 2325 Kuehner Dr # 127 Simi Valley off the 118 freeway at 7:30am) I have attached the AllTrails link for directions\, pics\, and stats https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/clyde-canyon-trail-to-lower-loop-trail-to-charmichael-road-trail-loop \nTrail loop\nMiles 4.1\nRated moderate\nElevation Gain 879ft\nDogs allowed\nParking there maybe a $4 fee to park at the trailhead but others have stated you can park at the park and walk to trailhead? Charmlee Wilderness Park… \nAs of now there is no sweeper for this hike so please know if you feel you can not finish for any reason please turn back early \nPlease check back on hike info as rain\, heat advisory\, strong winds or low attendance may cause the hike to be rescheduled \nWe will always follow Jim’s Golden Rules:\n1. Hike your own hike\n2. Please stop at every junction and split to wait for others to catch up\nPlease remember to bring all essentials you’ll need for a hike \nLiability Disclaimer:\nAnd last….The Organizer\, Co Organizer\, Assistant Organizers and Event hosts in this group are not professional guides. The function of the organizer is only to organize the trip. Each person who signs up for a Event is responsible for his or her own safety and the safety of his or her guest. SUMMARY:Hummingbird Trail to Secret Spot (The Swing/Cave) to Grunge Trail Loop
DESCRIPTION:https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/us/california/hummingbird-trail \nHello Fellow Hikers\,\nOkay had several request for this hike. Will be taking Hummingbird Trail to The Grunge aka Undertow Trail to the Secret Spot aka The Swing/Cave Were we will make our way back to the Grunge Trail back to Hummingbird via Rocky Peak Trail. This isn’t very long just over 5 miles but the trail will have both a steep incline with the first section of Hummingbird and some scrambling. Dogs can do this hike not a problem until we get to the secret spot as that requires holding on to cable and some climbing to get into the cave. I will be bringing my dog so I wont be going into the cave. so I can stay back with other pets if you would like. The link above is for the Hummingbird Trail that’s where we will meet and follow to our cutoff. \nTrail loop\nMiles 5.5\nRated moderately hard\nElevation Gain 1532ft\nDogs allowed\nParking is limited to street at trailhead please note on the cul-de-sac you can park on both side.
