SUMMARY:Hike at Laguna Coast Wilderness Park - Willow Staging Area
DESCRIPTION:The hike we will be doing is a loop at about 5.5 miles with 725 ft. of elevation gain. We will meet at the Willow Staging Area that is right off of the 133. \nWe will begin at the trail head of the Laurel Canyon Trail. This will take us up to Santiago Ranch Road to Cactus Hill. We will take a short break at Four Corners. Then we will come down Whiting Road. They will send you an email with further information. \nCome explore 3.3 miles of new trails at Saddleback Wilderness\, part of OC Parks’ Irvine Ranch Open Space\, through this self-guided opportunity. Designated trails will be open for self-guided hiking\, biking and equestrian use. There are multiple trail loop options which vary in distance and level of difficulty. Choices range from an easy one-mile loop to multiple figure-8 configurations for those looking to maximize their mileage. Regardless of distance\, nearly all options feature scenic views including a destination vista point offering 360-degree perspectives from the mountains to the sea. \nPlease review our Trail Tips page and FAQ page to prepare for your experience in the wilderness area. \nAll participants should be prepared to show their registration confirmation upon arrival at the Saddleback Staging Area prior to accessing the trail system. SUMMARY:Hike in San Mateo Wilderness - Bear Canyon Loop Trail to 4 Corners
DESCRIPTION:The hike we will do starts from the parking lot across from the Ortega Oaks Candy Store. It will be 6.8 miles (total) with 1200 ft. of elevation gain. We will take the Bear Canyon Loop Trail to the 4 Corners trail junction. We will take the Bear Ridge Trail back and do a lollipop look back to Bear Canyon Loop Trail and back to the parking lot. \nFor parking\, this hike requires an Adventure Pass. SUMMARY:Hike to the Hollywood Sign/Bronson Caves - Mt. Lee Summit
DESCRIPTION:I’m very excited to plan another hike up to the Hollywood Sign and the Bronson Caves. \nThis will take us to the summit of Mt. Lee where we will get the best views of the Hollywood Sign. The total mileage for our journey will be approximately 7 miles. Our elevation change should be about 1\,200 ft. \nWe will meet at the end of Canyon Drive which is where we will park. There will be parking options right at the address listed\, on the left\, and also right before that lot on a dirt patch. \nWe will be on Canyon Drive to start on up the canyon. Once we hit Mulholland Trail we will head left and this will take us to views of the front of the Hollywood Sign. After this we’ll go a short ways up the spiral road up to the summit of Mt. Lee. Once we’ve reach the top\, we’ll head back down to where we started. Once we get to the end\, we’ll go on a slight detour to the Bronson Caves. This is the Batcave from Batman. SUMMARY:Hike at Caspers Wilderness Park - Bell Canyon + Oso Trail
DESCRIPTION:The hike I am planning is around 6.3 miles with about 700 ft. of elevation gain. It starts at the very end of the paved road\, the long gray strip that can be seen on the map. \nWe will begin at the Bell Canyon Trail head. We will continue onto that and then take it to the Cougar Pass trail. We will go up that and make a left on Oso Trail. Once that ends\, we will come back down Bell Canyon Trail until we hit Star Ridge Trail. We will take this to West Ridge Trail and go left. This will take us to a single track trail\, Dick Loskorn Trail. This hits Nature Loops Trail and this will take us back to the beginning. \nThis is a beautiful hike with expansive views. SUMMARY:Wilderness Access Day - Black Star Canyon
DESCRIPTION:Let’s enjoy another Open Access Day! This is where we get to explore trails that are normally closed off to the public. The plan is to a loop that’s 3.5 to 4 miles with around 550 ft. of elevation gain. Since this is shorter\, the plan is to take our time and explore. \nYou don’t have to register on the LetsGoOutside site\, but here is the link for more info: https://letsgooutside.org/activities/2023/05/06/wilderness-access-day-black-star-canyon-53/ \nBlack Star Canyon\, part of OCParks’ Irvine Ranch Open Space\, offers pleasant introductory trails for beginner hikers and families as well as challenging experiences for seasoned trail users. Designated trails are available for self-guided hiking\, biking and equestrian use. A variety of trail loops offer extended exploration throughout the canyons. Take time to explore the local plant communities and beautiful scenery in easy 30-minute walks or take in 7+ miles in a strong cardio trek. \nPre-registration is not required for this event\, though it is available on the website. If you need driving directions\, use the online registration to receive a map and instructions for getting to the Baker Canyon Staging Area. Parking is limited on Black Star Canyon Road and carpooling is strongly recommended. You will not be required to sign-in upon arrival\, though an information booth with trail maps and suggested routes will be available in the staging area. \nPlease note that you are asked to adhere to the following measures during the activity in order to participate: \n\nArrive with all necessary equipment to keep you safe on the trail\, including water\, proper attire\, and footwear\, first aid\, medications\, etc.\nRestrooms will be available\, but facilities will not be sanitized for each individual.\nYou may be prevented from participating if you do not adhere to the above protocols.\n\nAdditionally\, in an effort to respect and protect all employees\, volunteers\, and participants\, please do not sign up or attend if you are not feeling well\, exhibiting any symptoms of illness or have been in recent contact with someone who was ill.\nParticipants are required to stay on designated trails at all times. In addition to being a rare and sensitive habit\, the Irvine Ranch Open Space is under strict protection. There are often unseen dangers just off-trail including\, but not limited to: mountain lions\, poison oak\, ticks\, poisonous spiders\, and venomous snakes. OC Parks Rangers may issue citations for visitors found off-trail so for your safety\, please stay on the designated paths during your stay in Black Star Canyon. This will take us up to Santiago Ranch Road to Cactus Hill. We will take a short break at Four Corners. Then we will come down Whiting Road. SUMMARY:Hike at Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park - Borrego Trail & Billy Goat Trail
DESCRIPTION:The total mileage for this hike is 5 miles with about 800 ft. of elevation gain. \nWe will start at the trail head of the Borrego Trail\, which is right off of the parking lot. This is where we will meet. We will head up the Borrego Trail until we get to Mustard Road. Here we will turn right. Then we will get onto the Billy Goat Trail. Once that ends\, we will turn right to go on Whiting Spur Road. When we get down to Four Corners\, we will head back on Mustard Road to Borrego Canyon. SUMMARY:Memorial Day Hike at Caspers Wilderness Park (2 Options)
DESCRIPTION:The longer hike I am planning is around 6.3 miles with about 825 ft. of elevation gain. It starts at the very end of the paved road\, the long gray strip that can be seen on the map. \nThe shorter alternate cuts off the last hill and ridge. That distance is 4.8 miles with about 615 ft. of elevation gain. \nWe will begin at the Bell Canyon Trail head. We will continue onto that and then take it to the Cougar Pass trail. We will go up that and make a left on Oso Trail. Once that ends\, we will come back down Bell Canyon Trail until we hit Star Ridge Trail. (The shorter route will just continue on Bell Canyon back to the parking lot.) We will take this to West Ridge Trail and go left. This will take us to a single track trail\, Dick Loskorn Trail. This hits Nature Loops Trail and this will take us back to the beginning. \nThis is a beautiful hike with expansive views.
