SUMMARY:Caballero Canyon to Eagle Rock in Topanga State Park
DESCRIPTION:Join me at Caballero Canyon to Eagle Rock in Topanga State Park! \nThis is a great mid-range hike for folks who want some good exercise and at the same time enjoy the local beauty offered in the Santa Monica Mountains. \nJoin us for a moderate to strenuous 9 to 10 mile roundtrip (semi- loop) hike that begins at the Caballero Canyon Trailhead in Tarzana. \nAfter climbing to dirt Mullholland we’ll turn toward the Temescal Fireroad. It’s a gentle uphill two miles past open grasslands\, chaparral slopes and live oaks. There are views of red sandstone rocks. We’ll hike this until we reach the Hub Connector and then head west to Eagle Rock. We’ll sit on Eagle Rock and snack while we take in the views. \nAfter enjoying our rest\, we’ll hike back to Mulholland via the Garapito and Bent Arrow Trails. Sorry\, but no dogs are allowed on this hike as we will be in a state park most of the time. \nHiking Difficulty:Moderate to strenuous for distance \nBring water\, snacks\, hat and sturdy sneakers or hiking shoes. \nIf you want to read more about this area click on the link below and preview this book. Go to page 65 and read about San Fernando Valley to the Sea. Our hike is the beginning part of this same one. It’s going all the way to Will Rogers State Park. We’ll do that one next time. http://books.google.com/books?id=KWfrmJ1DzPQC&pg=PT80&lpg=PT80&dq=caballero+canyon+to+mulholland \nHike Duration: I estimate that the hike will take at most 5 hours. We should be back to the cars by around 12:30. \nDirections to the Caballero Canyon Trailhead: Meet at the Caballero Canyon trailhead on Reseda Bl. From the 101 Freeway\, exit at Reseda Blvd and turn south. Drive for about 2.2 miles. There is parking on both sides of the street; the trailhead is on the east side of Reseda Blvd. across the street from Braemar Country club. The trailhead is clearly marked with a big sign. Parking on street is OK. Parking is free. \nFrom the EAST: Take the 101 Freeway West/North toward Ventura. Exit at Reseda Blvd. Turn LEFT (toward “Tarzana”) onto Reseda\, go under the freeway bridge\, cross Burbank and Ventura Boulevards. Continue on Reseda uphill for approximately 2.2 miles. \nFrom the WEST: Take the 101 Freeway South/East toward Los Angeles. Exit at Reseda Boulevard. Turn RIGHT (toward “Tarzana”) onto Reseda\, cross Burbank and Ventura Boulevards. Continue on Reseda for approximately 2.2 miles \n________________________________________________________________________ \nI am a volunteer (i.e. not liable for the group).
