Bring some snacks in case you get hungry and water to drink. \nThe 50 mile roundtrip bike ride from Carpinteria to the University of California in Goleta is on costal and inland roads through Hope Ranch with some hills on Cliff Drive descending to Santa Barbara. \n_________________________________ \nQUALIFICATIONS: \nThis bicycle ride is for bike riders who are experienced riding on roads at a speed of 12 miles per hour. View remnants of the resort that once catered to celebrities. This hike is 4 1/2 miles round trip along the Arroyo Seco stream. We will pass by a number of natural pools and visit the falls on our hike back. \nFor those interested\, after the hike we may go to lunch in Montrose. \nWhat to bring:\nFace Covering (optional)\, Two liters of water\, snacks\, hat\, sunglasses\, sunscreen\, hiking boots or shoes with good traction\, daypack\, hiking sticks or hiking poles\, long pants and long-sleeved shirt. Clothes should be loose fitting\, and light-colors are preferable. Long sleeve recommended due to possible dense brush on some parts of the trail\, and possible poison oak. \nParking Permit:\nYou are going to need an adventure pass to park which you can purchase at most REI’s\, Big 5’s and the La Cañada Shell Station on the way at 4530 Angeles Crest Hwy\, La Cañada\, CA 91011\nor you may also be able buy one on the way to the hike at the Ranger Station if it is open. \nFootwear: Hiking boots or shoes with good traction. The volunteer that does this hike is very knowledgeable and familiar with the area. \nFranklin Canyon in Beverly Hills is a nature center and park full of hiking trails. This will be a unique opportunity to step onto a actual movie set with a ranger providing some behind the scenes information. I have tested out this monthly easy hike. The outing will last about two hours with minimal elevation gained/lost. Frequent stops to rest and talk will make this attractive to some people that are not ready to climb the big hills. I do THAT every Friday evening with a Sierra Club group. If you get lost\, my cell is eight one eight 348-8884.
