Hiking Mount Pinos will take you away from the summer heat of SCV\, dropping ~20 degrees where you can enjoy alpine views while listening to the breeze gently caressing huge pines. Starting near the Frazier Park sledding location where there is ample parking we’ll follow Cuddly Valley Rd to the McGill Trail head. SUMMARY:CHC Camping Trip: Sequoia National Forest\, Stony Creek
DESCRIPTION:CHC Camping Trip\nStony Creek Campground\, Sequoia National Forest\nAugust 7-11\, 2024 \n36° 39′ 54.8820″ N 118° 49′ 58.0188″ W \nSequoia National Forest is a beautiful alpine area with some of the largest trees on earth – the giant sequoias. Our campground is near a beautiful natural granite waterslide with swimming holes. Come prepared to get wet! This is a favorite location for many of us! Bring a hammock and kick back to the sounds of the nearby creek. Plenty of hiking\, mountain meadows and the Giant Forest nearby. Campground is about 4.5 hours from Santa Clarita. Carpooling is HIGHLY recommended. \nTo Reserve a Spot: RSVP AND secure your spot with a $20 deposit. Venmo your deposit to @Heidi-Webber-5 with the comment “Stony Creek Camping.” The rest of the fees will be divided between attendees and collected at the campsite. \nRefund Policy:\nIf you cancel\, your deposit is forfeited.\nIf CHC cancels a camping trip that requires a reservation fee at the time the site is reserved\, each camper that paid the $20 deposit to hold their spot on the trip will be refunded all of their $20 minus the shared cost of any cancellation fee\, if one is charged. \nDirections: From Fresno\, California\, go east on Highway 180 to the Kings Canyon National Park entrance. SUMMARY:Blue Ridge Trail
DESCRIPTION:DESCRIPTION: This is a pleasant uphill hike on the north slope of Blue Ridge. Our trail starts up through stands of scrub oak\, black oak\, and Jeffrey pine\, changing to white fir\, sugar pine\, and lodgepole pine as we climb the mountain. Views over Table Mt. and San Gabriel East Fork\, with back drops of Mt. Baldy\, Iron Mt\, and Mt. Baden-Powell. This is a hike we should stroll and enjoy nature’s delights. SUMMARY:Ray Miller Backbone Trail to Overlook Trail and La Jolla Camp
DESCRIPTION:DESCRIPTION: We start at sea level at the back of the La Jolla Canyon Group Camping Parking Area to head up the Ray Miller Backbone Trail. The trail winds back and forth across the hillside providing spectacular views of the Pacific Coast Highway and the Pacific Ocean. We climb almost 1000′ in the first 2.7 miles then it levels off for 1.9 miles as we traverse the ridge\, joining the Overlook trail\, revealing great views into Sycamore Canyon and the Boney Mountain range off to the Southeast. The final 0.7 miles is a gradual descent along the Loop trail into the valley below\, turning into the La Jolla Valley walk-in campground. X-APPLE-STRUCTURED-LOCATION;VALUE=URI;X-ADDRESS=DESCRIPTION:DESCRIPTION: We start at sea level at the back of the La Jolla Canyon Group Camping Parking Area to head up the Ray Miller Backbone Trail. The trail winds back and forth across the hillside providing spectacular views of the Pacific Coast Highway and the Pacific Ocean. We climb almost 1000′ in the first 2.7 miles then it levels off for 1.9 miles as we traverse the ridge joining the Overlook trail revealing great views into Sycamore Canyon and the Boney Mountain range off to the Southeast. The final 0.7 miles is a gradual descent along the Loop trail into the valley below turning into the La Jolla Valley walk-in campground. Here we take a break and grab a snack before our return to the trailhead along the same route. \nDETAILS: \n\nHike leader volunteer(s): Tim R.\nMeet: Ray Miller Trailhead in La Jolla Canyon parking lot (across from La Jolla beach) at 7:45 am departure at 8:00 am sharp (Aug 24).\nDistance: Approximately 10.67 miles.\nElevation gain: Approximately 1719 feet.\nTime: Approximately 5 hours hiking including a snack break.\nConditioning: You need to be in generally good physical condition.\nDogs: No dogs are allowed.\nRestrooms: There are bathrooms at the trailhead.\nAdventure Pass: Not Required.\n\nIMPORTANT NOTES: We’ll hike at a brisk pace and ask everyone to stay with the group for a friendly and safe outing. There are no expected stream crossings exposures bugs or other warnings. As always people may slip and fall encounter poison oak snakes etc. on this hike. This event may be cancelled due to inclement weather before or at the start of the hike. Check the weather report and plan accordingly. \nESSENTIAL GEAR:\nHiking boots and poles. Clothing layers recommended. Snacks and 2+ liters of water and electrolytes or salt tablets. Beginner: 1-3 miles less than 500 feet elevation gain.\n2. Beginner/Intermediate: 1-7 miles less than 700 feet elevation gain.\n3. Intermediate: 5-10 miles 1000-2000 feet elevation gain.\n4. Intermediate/Advanced: 7-12 miles up to 3000 feet elevation gain.\n5.
