SUMMARY:Pacific Crest Trail to Martindale Ridge
DESCRIPTION:Pacific Crest Trail to Martindale Ridge \nDESCRIPTION: This hike is another one of my local favorites\, close to suburbia but feels like miles away. The hike is entirely on the well-maintained Pacific Crest Trail (PCT)\, that goes from Mexico to Canada. We will start at 3320′ and enjoy mainly a gentle gain that PCT is known for\, climbing through luscious chaparral of manzanita\, mountain mahogany and oak. There will be a few short steeper sections. Along the way\, we hope to enjoy views of the Bouquet Reservoir\, and Jupiter and Grass Mountains. We will visit Bear Spring and eventually emerge on Martindale Ridge at 4500′\, after 3.25 miles. From here\, if it is clear\, we take in views in all directions (i.e. Mojavi\, Lancaster\, and the Sierra Pelona area (Aqua Dulce/ Acton etc.) spread out below. \nDETAILS: \n\nHike leader volunteer(s): Tim R.\nMeet: Pacific Crest Trailhead at 7:45 am\, departure at 8:00 am sharp (Apr 6).\nDistance: Approximately 6.6 miles.\nElevation gain: Approximately 1\,391 feet.\nTime: Approximately 3.3 hours hiking including a snack break.\nConditioning: You need to be in generally good physical condition.\nDogs: Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.\nRestrooms: None.\nAdventure Pass: Not Required.\n\nIMPORTANT NOTES: We’ll hike at a brisk pace and ask everyone to stay with the group for a friendly and safe outing. This hike is all gain to the top (especially the heart thumping first mile) and downhill all the way back. We climb on single track through beautiful chapparal (toyan\, california bay\, yuccas and oaks). Eventually after a mile of oak forest and green ferns\, we emerge on the Santa Clara Truck trail at Wilson Saddle. There is also a restroom at the saddle and a picnic table. SUMMARY:Mishe Mokwa Funky Sculpture Fun Time - Backbone Trail - let's try this again.
DESCRIPTION:Intermediate/Advanced Hike! \nBust out your Trekking Poles and boots with good traction! \nDESCRIPTION: This is not a trail for the faint of heart\, there are also some technical spots with some mild scrambling. Trekking poles are highly recommended. This is about a 6-mile loop that will feel more like 10 when you’re done. The Backbone Trail isn’t just a walk in the park—it’s more like a rollercoaster ride with Mother Nature at the controls. We will be zigzagging our way through the Santa Monica Mountains\, dodging bushes\, and scrambling over beat-up uneven trails. Why would we do such a thing? Epic views of the Pacific and nature’s version of abstract art and yet another view called “Inspiration Point”. \nHike leader volunteers: Paul Huskey. SUMMARY:Pacific Creast Trail To Three Sisters Rock
DESCRIPTION:Pacific Crest Trail To Three Sisters Rock \nDESCRIPTION: This is a great SPRING hike and yes Spring is already here in SCA. This fun out and back trail has sweeping panoramas and if we’re lucky wildflower blossoms! We’ll start on the PCT and use a service road to get to the Three Sisters Rock. There we’ll grab a snack and maybe take some pics for posterity. Bring your camera and poles just in case we must cross a little water. \nDETAILS: \n\nHike leader volunteer(s): Tim R.\nMeet: Indian Canyon Trailhead – Pacific Crest at 7:45 am\, departure at 8:00 am sharp (Apr 20).\nDistance: Approximately 7.6 miles.\nElevation gain: Approximately 1\,729 feet.\nTime: Approximately 3.8 hours hiking including a snack break.\nConditioning: You need to be in generally good physical condition.\nDogs: Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.\nRestrooms – None.\nAdventure Pass: Required.\n\nIMPORTANT NOTES: We’ll hike at a brisk pace and ask everyone to stay with the group for a friendly and safe outing. Depending on water flow\, we may have a stream crossing\, but there aren’t exposures\, bugs or other warnings. As always\, people may slip and fall\, encounter poison oak\, rattlesnakes\, etc. on this hike. This event may be cancelled due to inclement weather before or at the start of the hike. \nESSENTIAL GEAR: \n\nHiking boots and poles.\nClothing layers recommended.\nSnacks and 2+ liters of water and electrolytes or salt tablets.\nHat and sunscreen.\n\nAdditional Hiking and Survival Gear Recommendations (link) \nTHIS HIKE RANKING: Level 3\, Intermediate (see chart below).\nPlease only sign up to attend hikes that are consistent with your ability. Based on your hiking during the last 90 days\, how would you score on the CHC Hike rating scale of one to five assuming a brisk pace? \nCHC HIKE RANKING SCALE:\n1.
