DESCRIPTION:We’re Back in Action! \nDESCRIPTION: Initial challenging climb up a canyon with a running stream to an old Campground\, then a long fire road to top\, then a long section of the PCT back down to the Canyon for the descent down the mountain. Lollipop style. Portions of this hike were burned in the Lake Fire. Excellent views of Tehachapi and the Mojave Desert. \nHike leader volunteers: Gary Sande\, Paul Huskey\nMeet: at trailhead at 8:00 am\, departure at 8:15 am sharp. Trailhead\nDistance: 7 miles\nElevation gain: 1200 ft\nTime: ~ 3.5 hours hiking with one snack break\nConditioning: you need to be in generally good physical condition\nDogs: not recommended\, due to excessive amounts of poison oak & poodle dog bush\, and a narrow canyon climb in and out of the mountain.\nNo restrooms – so plan accordingly.\nAdventure Pass: Not Required \nWARNINGS: \n\nThere are many areas that have Poison Oak and in certain areas a LOT of Poodle Dog bush – but it is all avoidable if you are observant and careful!\nThere are sections of narrow trail with adjacent steep drop offs. SUMMARY:Wind Wolves Preserve - A Favorite CHC Hike!
DESCRIPTION:DESCRIPTION:\nHike leader volunteers: Nancy H.\nMeet: Wind Wolves Preserve at The Crossing Parking Lot at 8:15am\, departure at 8:30am sharp.\nDistance: 8.3 miles\nElevation gain: Approx 1020 ft\nTime: ~ Approx 4 hours hiking including one snack break \nThe Wind Wolves Preserve is a hidden gem. We’ll start from “The Crossing” Parking Lot and will hike along the creek trail via San Emigdio Canyon\, then clockwise up the back of the mountain on the Tule Elk Trail. We’ll stop for a break and snack and enjoy the breathtaking vista\, then head back. The wildlife here is abundant during the winter months as the Tule Elk herds migrate to lower elevations\, as well as the Mule Deer. Plan on dressing in layers as it will be chilly here. \nNote: Go to the end of this road\, past the “The Crossing Campground”. \nThere are clean flushing toilets\, sinks\, paper towels at the Crossing and further up the canyon. Entrance & parking is free. \nConditioning: you need to be in generally good physical condition\nDogs: Must be on leash.\nRestrooms – Near trailhead and another one before our ascent.\nAdventure Pass: Not Required \nWARNINGS: \n\nThere are a number of shallow stream crossings.
