Bring water\, snacks\, sunscreen\, and a good attitude. \nWe will meet at 7:30 AM at the Backbone Trail at Latigo Canyon Trailhead on Latigo Canyon Road\, from PCH go north 7 miles on Latigo Canyon Road to a dirt lot on the right side or from the 101 go 7 miles south on Kanan Dume to a left on Latigo Canyon Road then 3 miles to the dirt lot now on your left. From the meeting point at the Latigo Canyon Trailhead we will car shuttle 14 miles to the start point at the Malibu Creek State Park Backbone Trailhead near Piuma and Las Virgenes. We will take the Etz Meloy Trail starting at the Encinal Canyon trailhead. We will cross the Mulholland Highway and then take the Etz Moloy Trail\, with views of Triunfo Pass and the Boney Mountains\, to end at the Mishe Mokwa Trailhead.The outing will be a one-way shuttle hike. Bring water\, snacks\, sunscreen\, and a good attitude. \nWe will meet at 7:30 AM at the Mishe Mokwa Trailhead. From the Pacific Coast Highway go north 7 miles on Yerba Buena Road to the Mishe Mokwa trailhead parking area on the right\, one mile east of Circle X Ranch. From the 101 exit at Kanan Road. Go west 7 miles making a right on Mulholland Highway. In one mile keep straight on Encinal Canyon. Then go 3.5 miles to a right on Lechusa\, then turn immediately right going north on Decker Ave (CA-23). After 0.8 miles make a left on Mulholland Highway and then 0.4 miles to a right on Little Sycamore Canyon Road. Take Little Sycamore Canyon 4 miles to the Mishe Mokwa Trailhead. From the meeting point at the Mishe Mokwa Trailhead we will car shuttle 7 miles via Little Sycamore Canyon and Decker Roads to Encinal Canyon Trailhead. The outing will be a one-way shuttle hike. Bring water\, snacks\, sunscreen\, and a good attitude. \nWe will meet initially at 7:30 AM outside the La Jolla Campground on PCH just south of the entrance (Ray Miller Trailhead). From the PCH\, the La Jolla Campground Parking Area is 4.9 miles northwest of Yerba Buena Road (Neptunve’s Net); or 4.2 miles southeast of Las Posas Road. Go past the yellow gate into the parking area or park for free along the shoulder (on the east side of PCH).From La Jolla Canyon\, we will car shuttle 17 miles up the long and winding Yerba Buena to the Mishe Mokwa trailhead. SUMMARY:Backpacking for the hearty...to Eagle Mountain
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a weekend adventure into the remote Eagle Mountains in the desert of NE Riverside County. We’ll start at the Lost Palms Oasis Trailhead and travel cross-country through open desert terrain to our backcountry camp. This is a dry camp\, so all water needed for the trip must be carried in. On Sunday\, we’ll continue cross-country through canyons and rugged desert terrain to the summit of Eagle Mountain (5\,527’)\, including a Class 2 scramble along the way. After enjoying the summit\, we’ll return to camp\, break down our tents\, and head back to the trailhead. \nThis area is where the Mojave and Colorado Deserts meet\, creating a landscape of rugged mountains\, washes\, and distinctive desert vegetation. And there’s an extra treat for this overnight: we’ll be camping under a new moon! Joshua Tree is an International Dark Sky Park and is known for some of the darkest skies in Southern California\, making this an excellent opportunity for stargazing and\, weather permitting\, catching a spectacular view of the Milky Way. \nThe trip is approximately 9 miles\, to and from\, with about 2\,700’ gain. \nLevel: Strenuous (I Rated) \nCost: $30 park entrance fee per vehicle. We’ll take the less-traveled HPS Route 3 to the summit of Scodie Mountain\, beginning on an old road before heading cross-country through a steep gully to a saddle. From there\, we’ll climb along the ridge to the 7\,294-foot summit\, enjoying expansive views of the surrounding southern Sierra and Mojave Desert along the way. The return takes a different route through the soft\, steep terrain before reconnecting with the road and heading back to the trailhead. \nThe Kiavah Wilderness sits at the southern end of the Sierra Nevada\, where the Mojave Desert and Sierra ecosystems meet. This unique transition zone supports an interesting mix of desert vegetation alongside pinyon pine\, juniper\, and canyon oak. Expect approximately 6 miles of travel\, 2\,600 feet of elevation gain\, and several miles of cross-country terrain. \nThis outing is being led as part of a Sierra Club I-Provisional Leader qualification.
