There are several hills with sweeping views of the coastline. The hike starts with a cardio warm up on a sustained hill\, then goes on to a series of rolling hills and some neighborhood connections. 4.2 miles\, 900 feet of overall elevation gain. Although not considered easy\, it is certainly a great doable training hike and a wonderful opportunity to meet other hikers. \nBring a flashlight or a headlamp (days are getting shorter) Also\, bring water\, a snack\, sun protection while the sun is out\, and an extra layer of clothing in case it cools down.

SUMMARY:Keller Ski Hut - Open Weekend
DESCRIPTION:YOU MUST REGISTER WITH THE HOST IN ADVANCE. Please no walk -ins. \nHost for this event is George Briggs – geob175@gmail.com \nWe are looking forward to your visit to Keller Ski Hut (the Hut).\nHere are a few things to know for you visit to Keller Ski Hut.\n· Guests need to bring their own bedding/sleeping bags\, food\, personal items\, and a towel. Sleeping bags are common as they tend to be warmer than blankets.\n· There are 2 refrigerators to keep food cold. The one under the stairs is for staff\, the one next to the bathroom is for general use. If guest fridge is full\, ask staff if you can use their fridge\, too.\n· There is a fully stocked kitchen with 2 stoves/ovens\, microwave\, coffee maker\, dishes\, pots/pans\, plates\, utensils\, etc. We even have a gas BBQ.\n· We have a large community bathroom with a hot shower.\n· The Hut has two large dorm/hostel-style sleeping areas\, men on one side\, women on the other. We have 21 single beds with memory foam mats for your comfort.\n· The Hut relies on water deliveries to the Hut’s water tank for a water supply\, so water conservation is always on our mind. We encourage short showers and avoiding running water unnecessarily to help. Please\, when using the shower\, turn lever on shower head to off position when soaping up to conserve water.\n· Jensen’s Grocery is located 5 miles away in Running Springs and they usually have any items which you may have forgotten.\n· In winter\, skiing is 100 yards away down the road at Snow Valley Mountain Resort\, www.snow-valley.com. The proximity makes for easy back and forth to the slopes from the Hut.\n· Cell service is available\, but limited strength & bandwidth. Verizon is usually stronger than AT&T in the Hut.\n· The Hut is operated by a group of volunteers who make up the Management Committee\, work party volunteers\, and Hut Hosts. They dedicate their time and treasure to keep the Hut open and available for use by Sierra Club members\, guests\, and the public.\n· Keller Ski Hut operates on a share-the-work basis\, and everyone shares chores to clean-up the Hut for the next weekend. Garbage & Waste must be taken down the mountain by those using the Hut.\n· 18 years and older.\nSmoking is not permitted anywhere in the Hut or on the porches. No pets allowed. SUMMARY:Books\, WTC Buddies\, and Beer
DESCRIPTION:Grab a copy or download the audiobook then join us on Nov. 14\, at Radiant Beer Co for a fun discussion of: \nJack Kerouac’s The Dharma Bums\nThe book concerns duality in Kerouac’s life and ideals\, examining the relationship of the outdoors\, mountaineering\, hiking\, and hitchhiking through the western US with his “city life” of jazz clubs\, poetry readings\, and drunken parties. The protagonist’s search for a “Buddhist” context to his experiences (and those of others he encounters) recurs throughout the story.\nReleased just one year following the success of his previous novel\, On the Road\, The Dharma Bums was another success for Kerouac and became one of his most popular books. The novel would also go on to have a significant influence on the Hippie counterculture during the 1960s.

DESCRIPTION:Discover a slice of wilderness right in the heart of LA\, just minutes from downtown Beverly Hills. You don’t need to travel hours to get to the great outdoors—there are beautiful canyon trails right in your backyard! \nIt doesn’t get more centrally located than this…literally the geographic center of Los Angeles (according to the former USGS employee who commemorated the precise location with a hidden plaque that we will be locating and visiting)\, this moderate\, 2.5 mile round trip trail hike and lush nature walk through the chaparral\, grasslands\, and oak woodlands of the Santa Monica Mountains (and a few redwoods to boot!) is sure to inspire with its hidden gems: the Upper Franklin Canyon Reservoir—a three acre lake that was used as the shooting location of the Andy Griffith Show opening credits\, a duck and turtle pond surrounded by proudly standing pampas grass (together serving as the permanent and seasonal home for birds in the Pacific Flyway)\, and atop the ridge on Mulholland Drive at its highest elevation\, spectacular sweeping views of both Santa Monica Bay to the south and the San Bernardino Mountains to the north. \nThis hike is offered by the Sierra Club. While on this hike you will hear about the Wilderness Travel Course starting in January. This 10-week class covers the skills and gear needed to safely enjoy and explore the outdoors. You are bound to not only learn but have fun and make new friends in this class! \nAdditonal details: \n\nDifficulty: Moderate\nDistance: 2.5 miles round trip\nElevation Gain: 325 feet\nFacilities: Drinking fountain and water bottle refill station\, restrooms\nMRCA Franklin Canyon Park Trail Map\nRSVP here.
