SUMMARY:Tuesday Moderate Hikers Park to Park to Park
DESCRIPTION:Moderate 9 miles\, 1000′ gain Westside city park hike. Our PtPtP outing tours Culver City Park\, the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook\, and Kenny Hahn State Recreation Area. The outing will traverse the Park to Playa trail as well as Ron’s trail\, a short jaunt up and down the infamous Culver City Stairs\, and take in scenic ponds\, waterfalls\, stream crossings\, a bridge to somewhere\, wild life crossings\, goats\, ducks\, turtles\, hummingbirds\, fish (bring your pole and you might catch a trout)\, monuments\, murals\, city views (downtown\, uptown\, lefttown\, righttown)\, nature center (clockwise and counter clockwise tours)\, and many other sights too numerous to cover in this description. \nMeet at 8:00 AM at the Bill Botts baseball field in Culver City (take Duquesne Avenue into Culver City Park to its end\, make a left at the Boneyard Dog Park\, and then another left to circle the baseball field to parking on the left field side of the diamond. \nBring water\, snacks\, sunscreen\, and a good attitude. Rain\, excessive heat\, or Red Flag alert cancels. \nThis is a Back Country hike\, and a Sierra Club medical form is required. The form is available at bitly.com/scmedicalform. We ask you to print it out and carry it with you\, but the form will be available at the trailhead as well. \nIn going on a Sierra Club outing you are potentially on a trip with individuals vaccinated and unvaccinated. It is your choice to attend the outing knowing this information. The leader can not and should not reveal the status of participants vaccination or reject a participant based on their vaccination status. You are welcome to wear a mask if that makes you comfortable. If someone is experiencing any possible COVID symptoms or is sick\, they should not attend the outing. The participant is responsible for contacting the leader to report a positive COVID test.

DESCRIPTION:Informational Posting Only – See Website at www.wildernesstravelcourse.org\nINFORMATIONAL POSTING ONLY\nwww.wildernesstravelcourse.org\nDear Group Members\, particularly the recent swell of new\, never-been-backpacking-before-but-want-to-start members: There is a great Sierra Club opportunity that is about to begin….an opportunity that only happens one time each year and it is one of the best outdoor learning experiences the Sierra Club has to offer. This is the Angeles Chapter Wilderness Travel Course (WTC). Some of you have taken the course and are now leaders and/or knowledgeable hikers. For those of you who have not\, enrollment in WTC is something you should consider now. The Wilderness Travel Course helps build outdoor skills so hikers can be safe in the backcountry. The course runs for ten weeks and includes four field trips (two one day and two weekend outings). Students learn map and compass navigation skills for competent hiking off-trail\, snow travel\, rock scrambling techniques\, first aid\, nutrition and lots more. The course is followed by unforgettable experience backpacking trips\, most of which take place in the High Sierra\, Sequoia and Yosemite during the summer months.\nWTC moves you from being a day hiker to a more serious adventurer.
