DESCRIPTION:Here’s an opportunity for our experienced beginner Trekkers to enjoy this beautiful area in Santa Barbara that our Intermediate Trekkers have done in the past. But this version is much shorter and far less elevation gain. As you can see from the photo above\, there is a creek (San Roque) that the Arroyo Burrow trail follows and we’ll have lots of shade along the way. We’ll start out from Stevens Park and end the hike there as well. Those interested can plan on having a picnic there and those not interested in doing so\, can head home. \nMEETUP LOCATION AND TIME: Stevens Park in Santa Barbara AT 9:00 AM (SEE MAP FOR EXACT LOCATION) \nEARLIER MEETUP LOCATION: The Thousand Oaks Park and Ride at the corner of Rancho Rd. and Haaland Dr. NO LATER THAN 7:45 a.m. It’s just south of the 101 Fwy and 23 Fwy interchange. Have a full tank of gas and be willing to drive if needed. Those that don’t drive can help pay for gas ($10/person). This beautiful bike path will take us along the beach and eventually to Fisherman’s Village in Marina Del Rey. There is some street riding on this one – specifically on Washington Boulevard and Fiji Way but the rest of the time\, you’re on a bike path away from car traffic. SUMMARY:SYCAMORE CANYON TO LA JOLLA CANYON via Scenic\, Overlook and Ray Miller Trails
DESCRIPTION:We’ll start out by meeting outside the La Jolla Campground on PCH. From there we’ll take on a 2 mile car shuttle to Sycamore Campground. SUMMARY:WWW ADVENTURE AT BIG BEAR LAKE - Hike to Grand View Point and Kayaking
DESCRIPTION:A VERY SHADY TRAIL AND KAYAKING TO BEAT THE HEAT \nJoin me and some WWW members if you would like to spend all day at Big Bear Lake with us experiencing the fun that our Wednesday events offer. We’ll start out with a 7 mile In and Out hike to Grand View Point via the Pine Knot Trail with a 1160′ gain/loss. Pack a lunch to be enjoyed at Grand View Point. After the hike we’ll have a little WWW fun on the lake with Kayaks which we’ll be renting at Paddles and Pedals. Of course\, if you know anything about the WWW\, you know you will be getting wet. Therefore\, bring a change in clothing and your secret water weapon.The Paddles and Pedals rentals are $35/1 hour and $50/2 hours for 2 person Kayak. Plan on 2 hours if the hike doesn’t take too long to do and the wind is calm. \nDEBRIEFING: Plan on having dinner there after the lake fun. \nIf you have to be somewhere later that day\, don’t commit to this. This event will be over when it’s over. \nMEETUP TIME\, LOCATION AND DIRECTIONS: Take the 134 Fwy east and exit Harvey Dr. heading south. Make a right on E. Wilson Ave. followed immediately by a right into the Park And Ride there. Whether you meet at an earlier location or not\, you’ll all be required to meet at our caravan location at the park and ride in Glendale. We’ll all meet there at 6:00 a.m. and fill up as few cars as possible. Therefore bring a change in clothing and your secret water weapon.The Paddles and Pedals rentals are $35/1 hour and $50/2 hours for 2 person Kayak. Plan on 2 hours if the hike doesn’t take too long to do and the wind is calm. \nDEBRIEFING: Plan on having dinner there after the lake fun. \nIf you have to be somewhere later that day don’t commit to this. David just bought the one pictured above one and we found out that we could test ride several of their models at Duke’s Bicycles in Anaheim. That ‘s our first stop where we’ll do some test rides and see how we like them. \nFRIED CHICKEN – Anaheim is also the home of Knott’s Berry Farm which Paul claims has the best fried chicken. I think quite a few hikers would enjoy contra dancing. I think quite a few hikers would enjoy contra dancing. I tell people that if they can walk briskly count to 8 and follow directions (listening and obeying directions being the hard part) they can learn to contra dance. In doing this loop\, we will be walking along roads for 1/2 of a mile\, hiking 3/4 mile on a trail\, trekking along 2+ miles of “use” trails\, going down a very steep old fire break over 1/4 mile\, and doing some challenging sections of class 3 rock climbing with a sheer drop-off/exposure. When we’re done\, you’ll have had your hiking fix satisfied many times over. Besides the variety of traversing different sections this loop offers\, you’ll also be rewarded by an awesome and provocative view of Lake Sherwood from one of its sentinels as well as views of Lake Eleanor\, Westlake and The Las Virgenes Reservoirs.
