DESCRIPTION:BEFORE YOU WILL BE MOVED TO THE GOING LIST\, YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR CDH PROFILE (The three questions must be answered with a “yes”) IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO.NEED HELP:go to: https://wp.me/P9MbG4-hC \nTHE ULTIMATE EBIKE RIDE up beautiful Refugio Rd. and SANTA BARBARA STATE BEACHS \nThis time we will be heading into a remote area of Santa Barbara County. In Spring this is a beautiful area to see\, but it still will be nice to check it out at this time. Sure\, you can take a car along this paved road\, but you can’t enjoy it as much as what a bike ride offers. After biking Refugio road we’ll take the beach bike path between Refugio and El Capitan State Beachs and back. We can also add some additional mileage in the campgrounds. So\, join me on this exciting event. Road Bikes with strong riders are welcome.https://www.alltrails.com/explore/map/map-sep-28-07-29-pm-5a2a330Make sure you bring along a spare inner tube. \nMEETUP LOCATION AND TIME: Meet at 9:00am at site below:https://www.google.com/maps/place/34%C2%B028’01.0%22N+120%C2%B004’07.2%22W/@34.4669454\,-120.0693474\,291m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m22!1m15!4m14!1m8!2m2!1d-120.1945932!2d34.5287467!3m4!1m2!1d-120.1459206!2d34.5880421!3s0x80e953587346ca11:0xeae455cf9583cece!1m3!2m2!1d-120.0818546!2d34.5551858!3e0!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d34.4669435!4d-120.0686571 \nPARKING FEE: It’s FREE! \nDISTANCE: 26 miles maximum distance\, less if my battery doesn’t last \nDURATION: 6 hours \nELEVATION GAIN: 3000′ – It’s a demanding route for regular bikes\, but with our ebikes we’ll take on as much elevation gain as our weakest ebike (that’s mine) and/or ebiker (?) can handle. SUMMARY:CicLavia - Heart of LA Bike Ride
DESCRIPTION:BEFORE YOU WILL BE MOVED TO THE GOING LIST\, YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR CDH PROFILE (The three questions must be answered with a “yes”) IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO.NEED HELP:go to: https://wp.me/P9MbG4-hC \nCicLavia \nCicLavia is a quarterly event in Los Angeles where the streets get shut down and people can bike\, skate\, run\, walk\, skateboard\, and spectate. It’s always fun. We’ll be biking. These are streets that you wouldn’t normally bike on due to traffic congestion and danger. This is a very casual trip as we’ll most likely be stopping for coffee and/or food along the way or anything interesting that we see and so those stops will determine when we get back. It’s a lazy Sunday afternoon on bikes. \nHere’s the official description:https://www.ciclavia.org/heart_of_la21 \nHere’s the route map:https://tinyurl.com/yetwmadd \nMake sure you bring along a spare inner tube. \nIt’s always good to bring a bike lock. \nMEETUP LOCATION:The North-West end of MacArthur Park at the intersection of West 7th Street and S. Park View street or as close to this as you can get.https://tinyurl.com/tck234w4 \nIt’s important that you get there on time as we will be leaving that location promptly at 9 am. \nMEETUP PARKING:There is street parking in the area. My general preference is to park at611 S Carondelet St. Los Angeleshttps://tinyurl.com/9ar4vpczwhich is a parking garage that charges about $9.From there you just head south on Carondelet St past Wilshire and then turn left on 7th Street. It’s a 0.3 mile ride. \nIf you have trouble finding us\, call my cell# (818-307-6460). \nMEETUP DATE AND TIME: Sunday.\, October 10th\, no later than 8:45 am. \nDISTANCE:12 miles if you do the route once.24 if you say “Hey that was fun\, let’s do it again” \nDURATION: 5+ hours \nELEVATION GAIN: 150 feet \nBIKE TRAIL DESCRIPTION: LA City Streets \nTHE PACE: 10 MPH on up \nLEVEL: Advanced Beginner on up \nMY CELL# IS 818-307-6460 \n“Learn to ride a bicycle. SUMMARY:TOM SLOAN SADDLE TRAIL LOOP
DESCRIPTION:BEFORE YOU WILL BE MOVED TO THE GOING LIST\, YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR CDH PROFILE (The three questions must be answered with a “yes”) IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO \nWe will begin our trek on a fire road then continue above the shaded Bear canyon to the Tom Sloan Saddle. After a short break continue on the newly restored TS trail and then stop for snacks at the Mount Lowe Campground. This is where the Old Tavern was built back in 1895 by professor Lowe. A few of the ruins from the Tavern and the Mt. Lowe Railway system can be seen here. There are also displays of pictures and a bit of history of its existence from 1893 to 1938.After the obligatory group photo we will return back to our cars by ascending the Mt. Lowe fire road \nA BIT OF HISTORY: RESTORATION PROJECTThe original trail was built many\, many years ago by the U.S. Forest Service. it was used as a short cut to get from the Lowe campground to Millard and the Arroyo Seco. The Mount Lowe Road was then built which destroyed most of the trail and it wasn’t well maintained. After the Station Fire in 2009 it was permanently closed. The impressive trail restoration was made possible by Restoration Legacy Crew back in 2018. It took them many months of hard work and dedication to bring this trail back to life. The perfect positioning of the rock steps along the path can be appreciated as well as many other attributes that make this trail worth checking out. \nStats:Level- Strong Intermediate/NO BEGINNERS PLEASEDistance- 8 milesGain- 1400′ (approximate)Terrain- rocky fire road\, single track trailsRestrooms- not available at trailhead (there is one at the campground)Dogs- NOT ALLOWED ON THIS HIKEParking- dirt road at the trailheadA National Forest Pass is not required. \nI would like to be back to the cars by 2:00 PM \nWHAT TO BRING: A POSITIVE ATTITUDE.Lunch/snacks\, at least 3 liters of water\, Lug soles with good tread\, poles if you like/have them.Hand sanitizer & mask (optional) \nEARLIER MEET TIME LOCATION: 7:00AMhttps://www.google.com/maps/place/Milmada+Dr\,+La+Ca%C3%B1ada+Flintridge\,+CA+91011/@34.2085854\,-118.2003645\,17z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x80c2e9fb97d40ee9:0xa72e02a9070ad690!8m2!3d34.208581!4d-118.1981705.From here we’ll caravan to the trailhead. \nEATON SADDLE TRAILHEAD DIRECTIONS:https://www.google.com/maps/place/Eaton+Saddle+Trailhead/@34.2393818\,-118.0955521\,648m/am=t/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x80c2e7edecba22af:0x4ebc9e7d4338d8d8!8m2!3d34.2393774!4d-118.0933634 \nPlease join us for lunch at the La Canada-Flintridge Town CenterThere is a variety of food places to eat.https://www.google.com/maps/place/990+Town+Center+Dr\,+La+Ca%C3%B1ada+Flintridge\,+CA+91011/@34.2048424\,-118.202024\,17z/data=!3m1!5s0x80c2e9fc288954a1:0x79962bab30c04ef6!4m12!1m6!3m5!1s0x80c2e9fc28e4164b:0x9f9115b9ea5a8d58!2sBlaze+Pizza!8m2!3d34.204838!4d-118.1998485!3m4!1s0x80c2e9fc28956f11:0x7598d16cf3b6ae96!8m2!3d34.2048937!4d-118.1998907 \nMy cell: 562 331 3793 \nCDH POLICY: Any member with two NO SHOWS on CDH events since will lose their membership with CDH. SUMMARY:JACKSON LAKE LOOP - A 9.5 MILE 2000' GAIN FALL COLORS HIKE

Some of the most beautiful forest in the range can be seen along the trail\, including huge ponderosa pine\, jeffrey pine\, white fir\, live oak\, black oak\, big-leaf maple\, alder\, and willow. The black oak and big-leaf maple turn brilliant reds and yellows in the fall\, providing a photographers’ feast that includes tremendous views across the southwestern Mojave Desert.West Blue Ridge provides stunning views down the East Fork San Gabriel River and across to 10\,064′ Mount Baldy. \nDrivers parking at Jackson Lake will need an ADVENTURE PASS. \nIf you have some place to be later in the day\, this event will not work for you. \nWe will be setting a slow pace with several breaks while staying together all the way so as not to lose anyone. \nCHECK OUT THE PHOTOS POSTED FROM THAT HIKE THERE IN 2014:https://www.meetup.com/calabasasdayhikers/photos/25092192/419820502/ \nDAY’S AGENDA \nSTART: Once we all arrive at Jackson Lake around 9:00 a.m.\, we’ll begin our trek along the Jackson Lake Trail to link up with the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail). \nPCT: The PACIFIC CREST TRAIL is probably the most well known of all the trails on the west coast. We’ll be hiking a small portion of this trail along THE RIDGE. \nTHE RIDGE: BLUE RIDGE (around 7500′) offers awesome views into the depths of the east fork of the San Gabriel River and high mountain country as we make our way to THE TRAIL. \nTHE TRAIL: This is an unnamed trail that drops us down to THE RIFT. \nTHE RIFT: The RIFT is part of the San Andreas Fault where one can see the tectonic boundary of the right-lateral strike-slip between the Pacific Plate and the North American Plate. It’s here where we’ll then hike along the CEDAR CANYON TRAIL. \nCEDAR CANYON TRAIL: This canyon is loaded with Cedar trees and it eventually will take us back to Jackson Lake. \nOPTIONAL LATE LUNCH: Mexico Lindo & Seafood Restaurant at 1253 Evergreen Rd\, Wrightwoodhttp://www.mexicolindos.com/ \nMEETUP LOCATION AND TIME: Jackson Lake parking lot at 9:00 am.https://www.google.com/maps/place/Jackson+Lake+Picnic+Site/@34.3927461\,-117.7317241\,796m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x80c31750467353b3:0x50e8f56da7cba3f!8m2!3d34.3920042!4d-117.7274162 \nEARLIER MEETUP LOCATION AND TIME: Those out my way can meet me in Woodland Hills at 7:00 a.m. and take off from there in a car pool. SUMMARY:STORMING THE CASTLE via the CAVE OF MUNITS and then a frontal assault
DESCRIPTION:BEFORE YOU WILL BE MOVED TO THE GOING LIST\, YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR CDH PROFILE (The three questions must be answered with a “yes”) IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO.NEED HELP:go to: https://wp.me/P9MbG4-hC \nCASTLE PEAKJoin me on a task to storm the castle (Castle Peak) via two attempts in El Escorpion Park. The first assault will be a maneuver on its west flank via a cavern passage (Cave of Munits). This will require some class 3 rock climbing (using your hands to assist) as you can see from the photo above of (http://www.meetup.com/calabasasdayhikers/photos/1871301/31389991/) one of our past attempts. When this attempt fails\, we’ll regroup below and go for a frontal attack on the castle itself. One of the obstacles on this course will be a hive of bees in the castles ramparts. By way of a traverse maneuver we’ll overcome this and overtake Castle Peak. Having conquered the castle\, we’ll break to enjoy the views our conquest has to offer. \nAccording to Chumash oral tradition\, this cave was the home of a very powerful shaman who met his demise after murdering the son of a tribal chief. \nMEETUP TIME: No later than 9:00 a.m. (Boots on\, ready to go) \nLOCATION: Near El Escorpion Park in West Hills on Highlander Rd. (SEE MAP FOR EXACT MEETUP LOCATION) \nELEVATION GAIN: 1200’+ \nDISTANCE: 6 miles \nDURATION: 3+ hours \nPACE: 2.5 mph on the trails and much slower on the climbs \nLEVEL: Intermediate hiker looking to challenge themselves \nMY CELL # IS 805-358-5972

Well\, here’s a weekend posting which will allow you to participate in this area below pinyon pine covered ridges as we use an easy canyon to access them. Of all the treks in the Razorbacks\, this was the most rewarding. This trek will be geared for a select group of intermediate hikers who love exploring that I have hiked with before. We’ll all be heading deep into a Razorback Bowl to enjoy what nature has carved out there. Well here’s a weekend posting which will allow you to participate in this area below pinyon pine covered ridges as we use an easy canyon to access them. Of all the treks in the Razorbacks this was the most rewarding. This trek will be geared for a select group of intermediate hikers who love exploring that I have hiked with before. SUMMARY:THE HAUNTED DEVIL'S GATE and COLORADO STREET BRIDGE via the ARROYO SECO TRAIL
DESCRIPTION:Once again on Halloween we’ll follow the Lower Arroyo Seco Canyon via the Arroyo Seco Trail and visit a couple of haunted landmarks (The Colorado Street Bridge and The Devil’s Gate Reservoir). So\, as an option\, get into the Halloween spirit by wearing your favorite costume for photo ops. I’ll put on a Warlock outfit at these two sites. Every Warlock needs his Witches and Sirens\, so I hope to conjure up a brew of them.Along the way\, we’ll be visiting two landmarks which are said to be haunted. It wouldn’t be good for CDH’s reputation to lose a member or two along the way\, so please stay together since\, against better judgement\, I am visiting the two ghostly sites in the dark.https://www.alltrails.com/explore/map/arroyo-seco-halloeen-hike-46c67be \nCOLORADO STREET BRIDGE – BUILT 1912: Along with over 100 suicides\, of course\, came the ghosts. Several spirits haunt the bridge\, including a man with wire rimmed glasses and a vanishing woman in a long flowing robe. She is often seen standing atop one of the parapets\, vanishing as she throws herself off. Even below the bridge\, ghosts are said to walk the river bed. Strange sounds and cries echo throughout the dark nights. Misty forms have been reported and animals act strange in the area. Homeless camping under the bridge have regularly reported seeing ghostly figures and hearing mysterious noises. A haunt wandering under the bridge whispers “her fault” to anyone he runs across\, although no one knows who he means.http://www.weirdca.com/location.php?location=57 \nDEVIL’S GATE – BUILT 1920Some people believe the rituals Parsons led in the area opened a portal to Hell and made the area a magnet for all kinds of dark activity.https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/southern-california/devils-gate-ca/ \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RgUz30AjIc \nTRAILHEAD MEETUP LOCATION AND TIME: We’ll all meet on Arroyo Terrace at 4:00 p.m.https://www.google.com/maps/place/34%C2%B008’58.3%22N+118%C2%B009’52.3%22W/@34.1495239\,-118.166468\,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x0:0x0!2zMzTCsDA4JzI1LjAiTiAxMTjCsDEwJzAyLjMiVw!3b1!8m2!3d34.140285!4d-118.1673!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d34.1495201!4d-118.1645378 \nRESTROOM: Yes\, at the Rose Bowl shortly after the hike begins. \nLEVEL: Intermediate \nDISTANCE: 7.5+ miles \nGAIN/LOSS: 600’/600′ \nTERRAIN: Mostly single track trail. DESCRIPTION:BEFORE YOU WILL BE MOVED TO THE GOING LIST\, YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR CDH PROFILE (The three questions must be answered with a “yes”) IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO.NEED HELP:go to: https://wp.me/P9MbG4-hC \nHave you looked at our past events into the RAZORBACK ridge area of the Los Padres National Forest and wished you were able to enjoy this area but missed out. Well\, I’ll now be posting a series of events for all our CDH members to enjoy this area below pinyon pine covered ridges. We’ll start off with the easier hikes and work up to exploratory ones. I’ll number these so that you’ll be able to identify which ones you have done. As in Bryce Canyon\, there are many canyons\, but unlike Bryce where you have to stay on the trails\, this area has but one trail. the rest of the events will be x-country routes. All our events will first have us meet at the Flying J Travel Center in Lebec and car pool from there to our destinations about 30 minutes away. \n======================= RAZORBACKS #1 ============================== \nThis first area of the Razorbacks is where I was first introduced to these spectacular weather created rock sculptures in the Los Padres National Forest while on a Cub Scout outing at Camp Three Falls over 25 years ago with my son. SUMMARY:EXPLORATORY TREK TO THE HOODOOS WITHIN THE RAZORBACKS - SERIES #3
DESCRIPTION:BEFORE YOU WILL BE MOVED TO THE GOING LIST\, YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR CDH PROFILE (The three questions must be answered with a “yes”) IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO.NEED HELP:go to: https://wp.me/P9MbG4-hC \nEXPLORATORY TREK AMONGST THE HOODOOS OF THE RAZORBACKSI have to get this in now before the rains come and make it too hard to traverse the canyons. \nThis trek should prove to be more provocative than all previous trips into the Razorbacks as we hike amongst new Hoodoos and slot canyons. \nHave you looked at our past events into the RAZORBACK ridge area of the Los Padres National Forest and wished you were able to enjoy this area but missed out. \n======================= RAZORBACKS #3 ============================== \nThis third area in the Razorbacks was first seen by us when we took a cross country trek above Bowl #3 to view the spectacular weather created rock sculptures in the Los Padres National Forest. For this trek we will be inside the bowl traveling 5+ miles with a gain of at least 1000′ in search of the incredible and mysterious Hoodoos that haunt this unique place. \nMEETUP LOCATION AND TIME:The Flying J Travel Center in Lebec at 8:00 am:https://www.google.com/maps/place/34%C2%B049’00.4%22N+118%C2%B053’10.2%22W/@34.8167674\,-118.8883557\,918m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m17!1m10!4m9!1m3!2m2!1d-119.1365275!2d34.7489344!1m3!2m2!1d-119.1584843!2d34.7287962!3e0!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d34.8167631!4d-118.8861666From here we’ll caravan to our destination a half hour away to begin our cross country trek. Although this trek will be geared for our intermediate hikers that like an off trail hike\, our stronger hikers will enjoy this as well. Just remember that it will be at a slow intermediate pace. It’s a long day for a short trek but so worth it. \nEARLIER MEETUP LOCATION AND TIME: Agoura Hills Park and Ride at 6:30amhttps://www.google.com/maps/place/34%C2%B008’43.2%22N+118%C2%B045’37.6%22W/@34.1453344\,-118.7626267\,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d34.1453295!4d-118.7604382 \nDISTANCE: 5+ miles \nROUTE: Cross country route along a ravine to reach the Hoodoos and slot canyons which we will explore for the first time in this new area. \nELEVATION GAIN/LOSS: 1000’+/1000’+ \nTHE PACE: No faster than the slowest Trekker \nDURATION: I’d like to get back to the cars no later than 2:00 p.m. It’s a short hike and a long drive\, but the views are well worth it. We’ll spend a lot of time soaking in the views before heading back down. \nLUNCH OPTION: After the hike\, as an option\, those interested can join me for a late in Frazier Park. \nLEVEL: Intermediate hiker who likes cross country hiking and scrambling. \nMY CELL# IS 805-358-5972 \nNO DOGS ALLOWED
