SUMMARY:Mountain E-bike ride - Coral Canyon and Mesa Peak Motorway/BBT
DESCRIPTION:BEFORE YOU WILL BE MOVED TO THE GOING LIST\, YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR CDH PROFILE (The three questions must be answered with a “yes”) IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO.\nNEED HELP:\ngo to: https://wp.me/P9MbG4-hC \nWe’ll be going on a route that many of us have hiked\, but this will be the first time we’re biking it. We’ll start where the Mesa Peak motorway intersects Coral Canyon and head south. This is a fire road along the crest of the mountains above Malibu. It’s all dirt. We’ll also do a short trek to Mesa Peak which is an extra 8/10ths of a mile. \nWhen we get back to the start point\, we may also make an optional extra trip towards the top of Bulldog motorway and possibly beyond. \nMEETUP LOCATION AND TIME: We’ll all meet at 9 am at the intersection of Coral Canyon and Mesa Peak Motorway. Note that Mesa Peak Motorway is a dirt road. \nPARKING: PLAN A is to park along the road near the intersection of Mesa Peak motorway and Coral Canyon. This is because Google seems to think that you can’t go any farther than that on Coral Canyon.\nHowever\, if you can go farther\, do so and we’ll meet at the parking lot about a quarter mile farther on Coral Canyon. The paved road ends before you get to that spot but the dirt road portion is pretty short. \nDISTANCE: 9+ miles \nELEVATION GAIN: 800 feet \nDURATION: 4 hours \nLEVEL: Mountain biker able to keep up with slow e-bikers \nMY CELL # IS: 818-307-6460

SUMMARY:CHILAO - Exploratory hike to a mine\, peak and canyon
DESCRIPTION:BEFORE YOU WILL BE MOVED TO THE GOING LIST\, YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR CDH PROFILE (The three questions must be answered with a “yes”) IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO.\nNEED HELP:\ngo to: [https://wp.me/P9MbG4-hC](https://wp.me/P9MbG4-hC) \nI’m planning on doing a little exploring in the Chilao area near Newcomb’s Ranch. The goal is to take a short cross country side route to the Bell Hartman Mine which I’ve been to before as well as some trails in the Chilao area including a steep rocky trail to Mount Mooney. We might follow a canyon that feeds Alder Creek if time permits. There are pools\, most likely dry this time of the year\, that will be my final objective. After that we can stop off at Panera Bread for lunch in La Canada.\nAn Adventure Pass will be needed to park at Chilao – so we need to make sure that every car taken up there has one. \nMEETUP LOCATION AND TIME: 6:30am at the Woodland Hills Meetup location. Those who want to carpool from Woodland Hills\, can meet me at the corner of Leonora and Ponce Avenue. Ponce is the first street east of Fallbrook. We can park on Ponce which is not in front of any houses.\nIF MEETING HERE\, LET ME KNOW.\nSEE MAP SITE BELOW\n[https://www.google.com/maps/place/34%C2%B010’04.0%22N+118%C2%B037’16.0%22W/@34.1677751\,-118.6216512\,228m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d34.1677741!4d-118.6211043](https://www.google.com/maps/place/34%C2%B010’04.0%22N+118%C2%B037’16.0%22W/@34.1677751\,-118.6216512\,228m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d34.1677741!4d-118.6211043) \nALTERNATE MEETUP LOCATION AND TIME: 7:15 am at the meetup location on Hwy. 2 in La Canada. (BOOTS ON\, READY TO GO). IF MEETING THE GROUP HERE\, YOU MUST STATE SO\, OTHERWISE I WON’T BE STOPPING HERE.\nALTERNATE MEETUP DIRECTIONS: From the 210 Fwy\, exit at Angeles Crest Hwy and drive north about a quarter mile to just past Milmada Dr. in LA CANADA\, then park alongside the road. We will all meet here no later than 7:15 a.m. and take as few cars as possible to Chilao. \nDISTANCE: 6+ miles \nELEVATION GAIN/LOSS: 1000′ \nTRAIL DESCRIPTION: Dirt road\, trail and rock scrambling \nTHE PACE: We’re going to stay together\, so no faster than the slowest hiker (a moderate pace). \nDURATION: We’ll want to finish the hike and be back to the cars by 4:00 p.m. at the latest\, followed by lunch at Panera Bread. \nLEVEL: Intermediate trekker capable of off trail scrambling \nPACE: Very slow since I’m still recovering from an injury \nNEW CDH POLICY: Any member with two NO SHOWS on CDH events since Jan. 1st 2017 will lose their membership with CDH. Also\, members will not be allowed on this and future events until they have updated their CDH profile by answering the new questions as well as having a recognizable face photo of themselves. This update can not be done via an app on an i-phone or other type hand held phones. It must be done on a computer.

SUMMARY:SANTA BARBARA COASTAL RANGE TREK (ROCK GARDEN AND WHITE MOUNTAIN)
DESCRIPTION:BEFORE YOU WILL BE MOVED TO THE GOING LIST\, YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR CDH PROFILE (The three questions must be answered with a “yes”) IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO.\nNEED HELP:\ngo to: [https://wp.me/P9MbG4-hC](https://wp.me/P9MbG4-hC) \nSANTA BARBARA COAST- SERIES OF HIKES \nJoin me on yet another CDH series as I take on the Santa Barbara Coastal Range. We’ll hike a series of trails we’ve taken before that will be interesting with views of the ocean on most of them. Starting north at Gaviota\, we’ll conclude the series in Montecito. This series is definitely meant to be more visual than physical\, thus\, less conditioning but more of a mental enlightenment. Therefore\, we will hike together as a group and enjoy the beauty that this series offers. \nROCK GARDEN AND WHITE MOUNTAIN \nThis next trek in the Santa Barbara series will take us to The Rock Garden and White Mountain. After checking those two areas\, we’ll drop down the Tunnel trail to the Rattlesnake connector trail that will take us to our cars initially dropped off on Gibraltar Rd. We’ll do this one via a 15 minute car shuttle. This will be a 70% downhill hike consisting of 4+ miles overall. As we’re halfway down the Tunnel Trail we’ll be able to view Mission Falls. There will be some rock scrambling in THE ROCK GARDEN an extremely rocky area\, but the rest of the hike will be on a well traveled trail. After the hike\, you can join me for an optional late lunch debriefing. \nINITIAL MEETUP LOCATION\, DIRECTIONS AND TIME: The Thousand Oaks Park and Ride at the corner of Rancho Rd. and Haaland Dr. NO LATER THAN 6:30 a.m. It’s just south of the 101 Fwy and 23 Fwy interchange. Have a full tank of gas and be willing to drive if needed. Those that don’t drive can help pay for gas. It’s about 1.2 hour’s drive to the trailhead.\n[https://www.google.com/maps/place/34%C2%B010’26.8%22N+118%C2%B051’39.0%22W/@34.1741264\,-118.8630207\,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x80dcd0bd18abdaed:0x31495eac78f71848!2sVilla+Park\,+CA!3b1!8m2!3d33.8140062!4d-117.8220723!3m5!1s0x0:0x5d245dcb416937cd!7e2!8m2!3d34.1741224!4d-118.8608322](https://www.google.com/maps/place/34%C2%B010’26.8%22N+118%C2%B051’39.0%22W/@34.1741264\,-118.8630207\,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x80dcd0bd18abdaed:0x31495eac78f71848!2sVilla+Park\,+CA!3b1!8m2!3d33.8140062!4d-117.8220723!3m5!1s0x0:0x5d245dcb416937cd!7e2!8m2!3d34.1741224!4d-118.8608322) \nFINAL MEETUP LOCATION AND TIME: The Upper Rattlesnake Trail trailhead on Gibraltar Road no later than 8:00 a.m. (SEE MAP ABOVE) \nFINAL MEETUP DIRECTIONS: Use the following directions as a guide when heading up to the upper Rattlesnake trailhead on Gibraltar Road. SUMMARY:NEWLY RESTORED GOLD CANYON TRAIL TO YERBA BUENA RIDGE
DESCRIPTION:BEFORE YOU WILL BE MOVED TO THE GOING LIST\, YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR CDH PROFILE (The three questions must be answered with a “yes”) IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO\nHOW TO UPDATE YOUR PROFILE:\nhttps://wp.me/P9MbG4-hC \nGold Canyon trail has been recently restored by my trail Angel Sean & the Forest Service. It’s been closed since the 2009 Station fire and is now officially opened. I had the privilege of hiking this trail two weeks ago. Not only is it beautiful but it is overwhelmingly filled with wildflowers. So\, I would like to share this newly restored trail with others before the wildflowers vanish. \nWe will start by scrambling down a use path off the main road. We will walk along the creek until we reach the Gold Canyon wash for about a mile\, just before we start ascending the newly restored trail. \nAlong this route you will be rewarded with an array of wildflowers until we reach the Yerba Buena road. From here we will hike along the ridge to the high point then have snacks on the water tank. \nWe will have 360-degree views of Mt. Lukens and the surrouding the Tujunga mountains. \nThis hike is posted with another meetup group. \nStats:\nLevel-Intermediate/NO BEGINNERS PLEASE!\nDistance-8-9 miles (approximate)\nGain- 2000 ft\nTerrain- maintained\, rocky & single track trails\nRestrooms- not available at trailhead.\nDogs- NOT ALLOWED ON THIS HIKE\nParking- along the road by the trailhead \nDIRECTIONS: ***PLEASE PAY CLOSE ATTENTION***\nThe original trailhead is blocked due to the new residents who are not hiker friendly. Therefore we need to start at MILE MARKER 1.38 a short distance from the main trailhead.\nPlease find parking along the road. \nFROM THE 210 WEST-take the Sunland Blvd exit and turn right. Make a left on Oro vista Ave for 4.6 mile and follow the road to Mile Marker 1.38 which will be on the right hand side. (see photo attached).\nOro Vista Ave turns into Big Tujunga Canyon Road. \nCoordinates:\nhttps://goo.gl/maps/bLPvgR9Lvv5Q1hpR6 \nWHAT TO BRING: A POSITIVE ATTITUDE!\nLunch/snacks\, at least 3 liters of water/electrolytes\, Lug soles with good tread\, poles if you like/have them\, and THE 10 ESSENTIALS!\nHand sanitizer & mask (optional) \nMy cell: 562 331 3793 \nCDH POLICY: Any member with two NO SHOWS on CDH events since 2017 will lose their membership with CDH. Members will not be allowed on this and future events until they have updated their CDH profile by answering the new questions as well as having a recognizable face photo of themselves. This update cannot be done via an app\, an iPhone or any other type of a hand-held phone. It must be done on a computer.\nFAILURE TO DO SO COULD RESULT IN YOU BEING EXCLUDED FROM MY EVENTS IN THE FUTURE.

Lowe Railway. \nWest Fuji 3681′\nPanorama Point (vista point) 4550′\nMuir peak 4668′\nInspiration Point 4510′\nEcho Mountain 3207′ \nFirst we will head up the Lone Tree trail to our first peak West Mt. Fuji.\nThen\, we will ascend a steep fire break with some sandy slopes and some rock scrambling to Panorama Point and take a short break to admire the views.\nNext\, we will continue climbing the ridge less than a mile to Muir Pk. From here its all downhill. Whoooohooooo!!!\nWe will be descending a semi-steep trail until we reach a fire road then half a mile to Inspiration Point. \nBeer will be served under the shaded veranda at IP. JUST KIDDING!!! I want to see who is paying attention. But believe me at this point you’ll wish you had a cold one! \nAfter our lunch break and re-energizing\, we will descend Castle Canyon until we reach lower Sam Merrell trail and make a quick stop at the Echo.\nThen we will continue our trek staying together as a group because I will be taking a short cut trail back to the cars. We will not be hiking to the Cobb Estate entrance. \nThis will be a loop hike. \nThis hike is cross posted with another meetup. \nStats:\nLevel- Strong Intermediate/Advanced NO BEGINNERS PLEASE!\nDistance- 10 miles (approximate)\nGain- 3000 ft (approximate maybe less)\nTerrain- maintained\, rocky & single track trails\nRestrooms- not available at trailhead.\nDogs- NOT ALLOWED ON THIS HIKE\nParking- dirt road at the trailhead & nearby streets \nWHAT TO BRING: A POSITIVE ATTITUDE!\nLunch/snacks\, at least 3 liters of water/electrolytes\, Lug soles with good tread\, poles if you like/have them\, and THE 10 ESSENTIALS!\nHand sanitizer & mask (optional) \nCDH POLICY: Any member with two NO SHOWS on CDH events since 2017 will lose their membership with CDH. SUMMARY:Trails Cafe to Mount Hollywood to Dante’s View to Griffith Observatory...
DESCRIPTION:BEFORE YOU WILL BE MOVED TO THE GOING LIST\, YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR CDH PROFILE IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO. \n* **The three questions must be answered with a “yes”** \nNEED HELP? Go to: https://wp.me/P9MbG4-hC \nThis is not a conditioning hike. My hikes are designed to give everyone an opportunity to enjoy the trails. As a team\, we stay together and hike as fast as the slowest hiker\, sometimes it could be me. We will stop at various points to wait for the slower hikers. \nToday’s hike is 5.25 miles with an elevation gain of 780’. We will begin and end the hike at the historic Trails Café on Fern Dell Drive. We will meet at 8:30 and start at 8:45. Give yourself time to arrive and find parking\, it can get crowded. Watch for No parking signs. \nBring 2 liters of water\, snacks\, electrolytes\, hat\, sunscreen. Wear good hiking/walking shoes\, bring poles if you need them. \nBeginning at the Café\, we will hike the West Trail for about a mile before crossing over W. Observatory Road. After crossing the road\, the West Trail merges with the Mt. Hollywood trail that leads up to the top. Bring your cameras because you’ll definitely want to take pictures of the breathtaking views of Los Angeles. We will continue down the Mt. Hollywood trail and stop at Dante’s View\, the Berlin Forest\, and the George Harrison tree before reaching the Griffith Observatory. At the observatory\, we will hang out for awhile and walk around its grounds. On the last leg of our hike\, we’ll continue down the Observatory trail end our day at the Trails Café with lunch and a slice of pie. The sandwiches are really good and Huell Howser loved their pies. \nAfter lunch you can go home or walk through the Ferndell Nature Trail\, a shaded dirt path also known as Griffith Park’s Enchanted “Nature Museum.” \nLInks: \n* AllTrails map: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/map/trails-cafe-to-mount-hollywod-9b8ef27\n* Trails Café: https://www.facebook.com/TheTrailsCafe/\n* Huell Howser at Ferndell and the Trails Cafe: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NW3-EpGiICk&t=9s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NW3-EpGiICk&t=9s)\n* Dante’s View: [https://www.larchmontbuzz.com/larchmont-village-life/dantes-view-griffith-park/](https://www.larchmontbuzz.com/larchmont-village-life/dantes-view-griffith-park/)\n* George Harrison Tree: [https://daytrippin.com/2016/11/27/special-tree-dedicated-to-former-beatle-george-harrison-in-los-angeles/](https://daytrippin.com/2016/11/27/special-tree-dedicated-to-former-beatle-george-harrison-in-los-angeles/)\n* Berlin Forest: [https://modernhiker.com/hike/hike-to-berlin-forest/](https://modernhiker.com/hike/hike-to-berlin-forest/)\n* Griffith Observatory: [https://griffithobservatory.org/](https://griffithobservatory.org/) \n**Details:** \n* Parking: Free on street.
