SUMMARY:Chumash Trail to Rocky Peak/Triangle
DESCRIPTION:We’ll hike up the Chumash Trail in Simi Valley to join the Rocky Peak trail. If you don’t want to continue\, feel free to turn around at the top of Chumash for about a 5.5 mile hike. For those continuing\, we’ll turn left to head to the “Triangle” where several trails meet and provide panoramic views. The hike to the triangle will be about 7.7 miles with 1600 ft gain. It’s mostly a single-track trail during the first climb with pretty views of the hills around. The final mile or so to the triangle and turn-around is fire-road. \nWe recommend you use poles as the Chumash Trail has some rocks on it. \nThe Chumash Trail showcases the unique geological timeline of the area with striking rock formations and hilly landscapes. Siltstone and sandstone reveals transformations over millions of years. Fossils of ocean invertebrates and vertebrates found along the trail are evidence of a time when the local hills were underwater. The Simi-Santa Rosa fault crosses the ridge near the intersection of the Chumash-Rocky Peak trails. \nDirections: put “Chumash Park and Trail” into your chosen map service. We will park at the end of Flanagan Drive or thereabout. From the 118\, exit Yosemite headed north\, turn right on Flanagan Dr after .4 miles\, then proceed about .8 miles to trailhead on right. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY\nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY:\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals.\nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. By participating in any posted event\, you are taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions. \nIf you choose to sign up for this or any Weekday Trailblazers Meetup event\, you are releasing the Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group\, its organizers\, and sponsors from all liability in case of possible injuries. Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience. You agree that you can navigate back to your transportation by yourself\, and agree to do so if you fall behind and lose track of the main body of hikers. \nBy now you should know the guidelines to participate in our morning hikes. Please review them before you sign up for the hike. And just in case\, here are some highlights and a link to the guidelines:\nhttps://www.meetup.com/The-Weekday-Trailblazers/about/ \nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\nUnregistered or waitlisted will be turned away\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\nPlan on completing the entire hike or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo dogs on this hike\nBring ample hydration\nAll participants must be 18 or older

SUMMARY:Sulphur Mountain’s Trail near Ojai
DESCRIPTION:We will hike Sulpher Mountain trail on Thursday. This trail is hard to post because after it rains it is too muddy\, then it gets too hot but right now it is PERFECT. Also\, there is a new restaurant owner at the old J&M Cafe and he is really great. The restaurant is in Oak View\, just 5 minutes off the trail up Hwy. 33. It is called Noa’s. This hike goes up the Sulpher Mountain fire road\, through petroleum-scented oak forest\, through the cattle grazing ranch land at the top to the overlook above the town of Oak View. We’ll have spectacular views of the Ojai Valley\, Lake Casitas\, and the mountains to the north and everything is very green. Our gently-sloping route will be approximately 6 miles\, with about 1000’ of elevation. \nParking is limited on Sulphur Mountain Road\, and it’s well outside our typical hiking area\, so carpooling is encouraged! \nLunch afterwards at Noa’s Cafe\, a mile north on 33 in Oak View\, on the right. (formerly J&M Cafe) \nOur usual restrictions apply – no plus-ones; no dogs; only show up if you’re on the “Attending” list.

SUMMARY:Happy Camp 2 - Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:5.7 Miles\, 1000′ gain\, Intermediate \nThe starting point is NOT at the golf course entrance. It is at a dirt lot that can hold at least 50 cars. There is some real incline on this hike and a lot less trails coated with silt compared to the easier Happy Camp hike. \nEven though I have rated this “intermediate”\, there are no steep sections. The 2nd quarter is an continuous fire road incline that can get exhausting. \nWe start with about 1.25 miles of relatively flat and slightly downhill double-tracker. Then we start up a fire road for 1.5 miles with a continuous incline of 700′. This section can be exhausting\, so I’ve rated the hike on the easy end of the Intermediate spectrum. \nA strong and motivated beginner can do this hike\, but they will be challenged and slow during this segment. That’s OK\, because this is not a conditioning hike\, it is a social hike. We’ll be stopping at various points to regroup\, and there is nothing wrong with taking many small stops along this section to catch your breath. \nAfter having done two segments\, we’ll reach a steel hitching post and clearing\, where we’ll have a social event lasting about an hour. We’ll be rewarded with spectacular views in all directions. During the day\, you can easily see the ocean and Channel Islands. Finally\, we’ll head back the way we came. \nInteresting Notes \nThese are plants you will likely see on this hike. \nWhite Sage\nIt is very aromatic and is the plant burned in “smudging” to ward off evil spirits and perform other purification. \nAlong the second half of the outbound section\, both sides of the trail have patches of White Sage. \nBlack Mustard\nFlowers\, leaves (mustard greens)\, and roots are edible. Can be used as a spice. Grind seeds and mix with water and vinegar to make prepared mustard. \nDirections\nHappy Camp Rustic Canyon\n13650 Broadway Rd.\nMoorpark\, CA 93021\nCoordinates of trailhead: 34.315212\, -118.874620 \nFrom CA-118:\nWest on CA-118\, exit 19a Princeton Ave.\nLeft on Princeton for 1.4 mile until dead end.\nRight on Spring Rd. for 1.3 miles.\nRight on CA-23N/Walnut Canyon Rd. for 0.9 miles.\nBecomes Happy Camp Rd. for 236′.\nRight on Broadway Rd. for 0.3 miles.\nParking lot in Northeast corner of intersection. \nFrom CA-23 and US-101:\nNorth on CA-23.\nCA-118 east for 0.6 miles.\nExit 19a\, Princeton Ave.\nRight on Princeton for 1.4 mile until dead end.\nRight on Spring Rd. for 1.3 miles.\nRight on CA-23N/Walnut Canyon Rd. for 0.9 miles.\nBecomes Happy Camp Rd. for 236′.\nRight on Broadway Rd. for 0.3 miles.\nParking lot in Northeast corner of intersection. \nThe Hike\nDistance: 5.7 miles\, 3.75 hours\nElevation Gain: 1000′\nDifficulty: Intermediate.\nPace: 2.0 mph\nDogs: No\nRestrooms: Yes.\nDrinking Fountains: No.\nParking: Free in the dirt lot at the trailhead\nTrail: Double Track and Fire Road\, with some sand. \nHosting\nRoute: The host knows the route.\nNavigation: Host memory\, enhanced by GPS navigation as needed.\nHike type: Social.\nThis description includes a picture of the route.
