Twin-Lakes Adventure Backpacking
This will be a nice 3-day backpacking trip in the Sierras with a visit to two passes and two lakes. This is in Sequoia National Park where we will be in the high alpine mountains. The itinerary I have planned is one night in Lodgepole campground and starting at the Twin Lakes Trailhead, then 2 nights on the trail, one at Twin Lakes, one at Jennie Lake, then exiting at the Rowell Meadow Trailhead.
Bear Canisters are required by law. No exceptions.
I would plan for temps down to 40F at night, and highs in the high 70s, with potential of afternoon thunderstorms.
On day 1, we will start at about 8:30 AM and hike to Twin Lakes, which is a modest 6.2 miles and an elevation gain of about 3,000′. I would expect to get to camp by noon. After lunch and setting up camp, we’ll hike another 800′ up to Silliman Pass (steep climb), and then descend again to camp.
Trailhead Elevation 6,769′
Twin Lakes Elevation 9,419′
Silliman Pass Elevation 10,180′
Total EG ~4,000′
Total distance 7.5 miles
On day 2, we will descend back to the main trail, then head up to J.O. Pass, and follow the ridge west and descend to Jennie Lake.
J.O. Pass Elevation 9,414′
Jennie Lake Elevation 9,002′
Total EG ~1,250′
Total distance 5 miles
One day 3, we will return to J.O. Pass, then head north and downhill to Rowell Meadow and out to the Trailhead, and hopefully a car.
Total EG ~1,000′
Total distance 7 miles

I have a reservation at Lodgepole CG starting from 8/29-9/2, so we can park in the CG while we are on the trail.
I will leave my Subaru at the Rowell Meadow Trailhead. I would want to move all of my gear out of my Subaru and leave it in one of the cars parked at Lodgepole CG. This will provide greater probability that the car will not be molested by people or bears while sitting at the trailhead for 2 nights.
I only have room on my permit for 4 people, so answer the question with a good description of your recent backpacking experience. I will add people from the waitlist and it is not FCFS.
There is a non-refundable* fee of $30 that includes the Campground and the Backpacking Permit cost. This doesn’t count shared carpooling expenses, which are handled in person.
I am not a guide, nor an expert. I am accepting no money for this event beyond the permit costs. I am merely organizing the event.
