THE RUSSIAN RIVER TRIP (DAY 2) Redwoods State Natural Reserve & river kayaking

September 12 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

I HAVE TO LIMIT THE NUMBER ON THIS EVENT, SO WWW MEMBERS AND THEN THOSE THAT HAVE HIKED SEVERAL TIMES WITH ME IN THE PAST HAVE PRIORITY

RUSSIAN RIVER HISTORY: http://www.russianrivertrip.com/history

Join me on an exciting three day adventure to The Russian River area where we’ll hike along a beautiful coastline, hike among giant redwoods, float down the Russian River and hike in the hills above Napa Valley. Sign up for the days you can attend.

ACCOMMODATIONS IN AND AROUND THE AREA: Everyone will make their own lodging or camping arrangements. The best place to stay, as far as being closest to the events that are set up, would be in Guerneville.

DAY 2 AGENDA Thursday Sept. 12th has us hiking in the Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve and then renting inflatable Kayaks to float down the Russian River.

MEETUP LOCATION AND TIME: We’ll all meet at 8:00 am in Armstrong State Redwoods Natural Reserve’s visitor center. There’s free parking there and we will hike into the park. Don’t go through the kiosk.

ARMSTRONG REDWOODS STATE NATURAL RESERVE: http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=450
During the 1870’s, this area was set aside as a natural park and botanical garden by Colonel James Armstrong, a lumberman who recognized the beauty and natural value of the forests he harvested. The tallest tree there is over 300′ high.
We’ll spend no more than 3.5 hours on a 6.6 mile loop hike, since we need to be in Healdsburg by 12:30 pm for our half day kayaking adventure. They like reservations to be made with money up front at $50/person. We’re not going to do that, so I will call the day before to make sure they have not been booked up. If so, we’ll just rent inner tubes at Johnsons Beach in Guerneville.

Healdsburg): http://russianriveradventures.com/
Half day kayak rentals start checking in at 12:30 pm, so we need to plan on leaving Armstrong State Redwoods Natural Reserve in a car caravan no later than 12:00 pm since it’s a 30 minute drive. You can purchase a lunch for $20 which comes with a cooler. Check their website above.
DON’T FORGET TO BRING:
– Hat
– Sunscreen lotion
– Enough water for a 3 hour outing on the river
– Sun Glasses

EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Intermediate and above

Trail statistics are approximate.  For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
