(Strenuous) GC R3 Training Hike: Middle Fork Lytle Creek to Timber Mtn

December 7, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 1:00 pm

This is one of the training hikes for the GC R3 hike, so preference goes to those people that are ALREADY signed up for the R3.

Limit: 15 people, I will add from the waitlist.

This will be a relatively straightforward hike, but getting to the trail will take some time, so plan ahead. 2WD cars may not make it up the road without damage. Find a higher clearance SUV. 4WD not required, just good ground clearance.

I can take 3 people with me from the bottom of the dirt road.

Out/Back from the Middle Fork trailhead to Timber Mountain, total distance 11.3 miles, EG 5,000′.

The route is simple, and found on this Caltopo page:

Why is this strenuous? Because I’m going to try to keep moving at 2.5 mph on the way up, and 4 mph on the way down (trail run).

There will be no stops on the way up.

No sweep.

Trail statistics are approximate.  For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
