THE CAVE’S ENTRANCE
Join me on a task to storm the castle (Castle Peak) via two attempts in El Escorpion Park. The first assault will be a maneuver on its flank via a cavern passage (Cave of Munits). This will require some class 3 rock climbing (using your hands to assist) as you can see from the photo above of (http://www.meetup.com/calabasasdayhikers/photos/1871301/31389991/) one of our past attempts. When this attempt fails, we’ll regroup below and go for a frontal attack on the castle itself. One of the obstacles on this course will be a hive of bees in the castles ramparts. By way of a traverse maneuver we’ll overcome this and overtake Castle Peak. Having conquered the castle, we’ll break to enjoy the views our conquest has to offer.
The route we’ll be taking covers the same ground as past hikes in the area, but this time we’ll be taking the trails in a different order.
According to Chumash oral tradition, this cave was the home of a very powerful shaman who met his demise after murdering the son of a tribal chief. Dogs are welcomed that have the ability to climb steep terrain with minimal assistance.
