SANTA BARBARA COAST- SERIES OF HIKES
Join me on yet another CDH series as I take on the Santa Barbara Coastal Range. We’ll hike a series of trails we’ve taken before that will be interesting with views of the ocean on most of them. Starting north at Gaviota, we’ll conclude the series in Montecito. Due to a predicted heavy rainy season, I’m sure we may have to reschedule a hike or two. This series is definitely meant to be more visual than physical, thus, less conditioning but more of a mental enlightenment. Therefore, we will hike together as a group and enjoy the beauty that this series offers.
SANTA BARBARA COASTAL RANGE TREK-8 (Blue Cyn and Romero Cyn)
Continuing our Santa Barbara Coastal series, we’ll do this one using a car shuttle which will have us start out at Cold Spring Trail and Cold Spring Northside Trail junction on E. Camino Cielo Rd. for some awesome ocean and inland views. From there we’ll take the Cold Spring Northside Trail as it drops inland into Forbush Canyon to the Forbush Campground. From there we’ll head over along The Cottam Connector Trail as it takes us to Cottam campground. It’s here where we will follow The Blue Canyon Trail through Blue Canyon to the Blue Canyon Campground. It’s some serious uphill over the next 1.5 miles as we take on a 1500′ gain along The Romero Northside Trail to to E. Camino Cielo Rd. Once again we’ll see views out to the ocean as we take on The Romero Canyon Trail Through Romero Canyon.
This area is a little over an hours drive from Thousand Oaks, so keep that in mind when signing on. The car shuttle is about an hours drive as well, but this will allow us to cover quite a bit of coastal and back country trails that should prove to be well worth the long shuttle drive.
MEETUP LOCATION AND TIME: We’ll ALL meet at he Romero Canyon trailhead on 2649 Bella Vista Dr. at 7:45 a.m. From there we’ll have a one hour car shuttle to the Cold Spring and Cold Spring Northside trailhead junction on Camino Cielo Rd.
MEETUP DIRECTIONS: Use Google Maps to get your directions to the trailhead. SEE MAP ABOVE
EARLIER MEETUP TIME, LOCATION AND DIRECTIONS: For those out my way, we can meet at the Thousand Oaks Park and Ride at the corner of Rancho Rd. and Haaland Dr. NO LATER THAN 6:30 a.m. WE WILL BE LEAVING FROM THERE AT 6:30 a.m. It’s just south of the 101 Fwy and 23 Fwy interchange. Have a full tank of gas and be willing to drive if needed. Those that don’t drive can help pay for gas. It’s about an 1 hour 15 minute drive to our meetup at the trailhead on Bella Vista Dr. in Santa Barbara.
