SANTA BARBARA COAST- SERIES OF HIKES
SANTA BARBARA COAST- SERIES OF HIKES
Join me on another CDH series as I take on several Santa Barbara Coastal Range treks. We’ll hike a series of trails we’ve done before that will be interesting with views of the ocean on most of them. Starting north at Gaviota, we’ll conclude the series in Montecito. Due to a predicted heavy rainy season, I’m sure we may have to reschedule a hike or two. This series is definitely meant to be more visual than physical, thus, less conditioning but more of a mental enlightenment. Therefore, we will hike together as a group and enjoy the beauty that this series offers. After each hike concludes, those interested can join me for a late lunch in the Santa Barbara area.
SANTA BARBARA COASTAL RANGE TREK-1 (GAVIOTA CAVES)
Our first trek in this Santa Barbara Coastal series will be in Gaviota State Park. We’ll visit the western half of the park which will take us to The Gaviota Caves. We’ll take on several trails (Yucca, Hollister, Beach to Back Country, Woodland) and the Trespass and Tunnel View Trails as well as a STEEP rugged ridge to the caves, to give us a total of 8+ miles on this hike. This will be accomplished via a car shuttle. We’ll be spending a good amount of time exploring the rock formations where the wind caves are. You’ll want to wait for me bringing up the rear so as to not miss out on the various side trails that we’ll be taking to overlooks and caves.
There will be a lot of junctions on this event that will keep the Tigers from running to far ahead as I bring up the Turtles. It’s important to stop and not try to anticipate the hike at these junctions, or you’ll miss out on my planned route to the overlooks and the caves.
This area is at least 1.5 hours drive from Thousand Oaks, so keep that in mind when signing on. Devote the whole day to this and don’t sign on if you have other commitments later that day.
Also, since this will involve a car shuttle we will be filling the cars half full to make it work. That means, don’t show up with a car full of Trekkers or you won’t have a ride back to your car after the hike.
Looking forward to sharing another Santa Barbara coastal range series with you.
