We’ll start out on the single-track heading out of the campground to the north, but then transition to the road that goes around to Hawkins Ridge a few miles to the east. This road is no longer in use. We’ll get some pictures of the burned-out Fire Tower, then head up the ridge. Eventually we will get to S. Mt. Hawkins, and continue on up to where the trail joins the PCT. We can then go see N. Mt. Hawkins, or follow the PCT around to the west to Windy Gap. If people are feeling up for it, we can coninue on up to Mt. Islip and follow that trail around to the west and then take switchbacks back down to the original trail. If we don’t go up Mt. Islip, we can just go down Windy Gap and come down switchbacks down to the road and ultimately the trail back to the campground.
This will be a maximum of 13.3 miles with 2,618′ EG. Likely less, if we cut-out Mt. Islip.
