This is an alternate hike to the Foothills Above Castaic. If it snows like they predict on Tuesday; and the snow sticks, we can decide at our meeting place to change to this hike as the trailhead is about 5 miles north on the Golden State Hwy. Otherwise, we will do the original Foothills Above Castaic hike.
The reason to possibly change the hike to Slide Mountain: if the snow comes down to lower levels and sticks, the only place to get a panoramic view of the snow is at the top of Slide Mountain, and it is also one of the easiest accessible ways to see the snow. I have seen it twice before from Slide Mountain and it is worth seeing. I promise there will be mud and there are a few places where it is that slippery clay-like texture. Hiking poles may be helpful.
The distance and elevation is similar to the original hike.
