What summer could possibly be complete without a trip to “Happy Camp”. Yes, it’s a real place and we’re headed there this week.
Happy Camp is a former home to several Chumash Indian tribes. It’s a fairly easy fireroad hike. If folks like the area, we can expand this to an 11 mile weekend hike in the future.
Directions: From the 118 Freeway, exit Princeton Avenue. Head north to Campus Park Drive and turn left. Proceed 0.5 mile to Happy Camp Canyon Regional Park/Rustic Canyon Golf Course sign and gates. Go though gates and follow paved road to parking lot and staging area about one mile into park. As you get to the golf course parking lot, the dirt road next to it on the right takes you to the trail parking lot.
