SUMMARY:Pleasures of Santa Anita Canyon\, Mount Zion\, and Sturtevant Falls
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an enjoyable loop hike in our local mountains that has it all: shady canyons\, streams and cascades\, 3 historic camps from the early 1900s “Great Hiking Era” on trails built by Wilbur Sturtevant\, and a Lower Peaks List peak to bag. \nFrom Chantry Flat we ascend gently up the shady canyon of lower Winter Creek\, with a stop at Hoegees Camp for a break. We then leave the shade for a while for a steep climb to top Mount Zion\, continuing on to historic Sturtevant Camp for lunch\, then descending back into the shade of the main Santa Anita Canyon\, with a break before a little uphill back to historic Adam’s Pack Station for refreshments and the cars. \nTotal for the day is 8.6 miles with 2300’ gain at a moderate pace. Bring suitable footwear\, at least 2 liters of water\, more if warm\, and lunch. Poles are helpful for the multiple stream crossings. \nThe trails and camps in this area date back to the early 1900s\, the so called Great Hiking Era in Los Angeles and around the country. During this period Thaddeus Lowe built the famed White City atop Echo Mountain and the Mount Lowe Railroad to access it. Wilbur Sturtevant built the trails we will be hiking to serve the series of camps he and Arie Hoegees built; Sturtevant Camp remains an active camp to this day. When asked why he routed the Mount Zion trail straight up over the peak instead of around it\, Sturtevant replied it was to make it a little more interesting and challenging for those hiking it. \n*** PLEASE sign up online to complete the required waiver and paperwork to save time at the trailhead.\nSign up link: https://act.sierraclub.org/events/details?formcampaignid=701Po00001zbOZGIA2 \nThis hike is brought to you by the Hundred Peaks Section\, the original SoCal peakbaggers\, the Wilderness Adventures Section\, which sponsors many diverse and interesting outings\, and the Local Outings Committee\, the oldest hiking group in Los Angeles.

SUMMARY:Bobcats on the Skyline - A Semi-Gentler Rock 'n Roller
DESCRIPTION:We don’t often start at the Foothill Drive trailhead for the eastern Los Robles Trail System\, so let’s correct that by doing a 5.3-mile\, 800′ lazy figure-8 hike out of there. \nThis area is well-known for its loose rocks\, and the first mile or so of the route is particularly rocky\, with a couple of giant steps up the hillside. Gloves and one trekking pole recommended (you will need one hand to steady yourself on the steps up). The middle mile of the hike is also quite rocky\, but once we’re back on the fire road\, things smooth out\, with even some shade on the return route. The last mile is a trail that I had never been on before scouting the route (Scott will undoubtedly tell me that he’s very familiar with the route). \nOur route will include the relatively new Bobcat and Skyline Trails\, and if you look closely at who has adopted the trail\, you’ll find the name of a recent new member of WTB! \nDirections: \nExit 101 at Hampshire and drive southeast just past the construction. Turn right at the Sinclair station onto Foothill Drive\, and look for permitted parking along the road. The trailhead is at the crook in the road up ahead on the left\, with a Montessori school on the right and apartment buildings on the left. \nPlease review the guidelines to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on completing the entire hike at a moderate pace.\nAll participants must be 18 or older\, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.\nNo “Plus Ones” or dogs on Weekday Trailblazer hikes.\nSunscreen and bug spray suggested.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group or its safety. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals. \nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. By participating in any posted event\, you are taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions. \nIf you choose to sign up for this or any Weekday Trailblazers Meetup event\, you are releasing the Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers from all liability in case of possible injuries. Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience.\nAll participants must be 18 or older\, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. No “Plus Ones” or dogs on Weekday Trailblazer hikes.

SUMMARY:Los Robles trailhead\, walking down to Las Padres and up and around
DESCRIPTION:NOTE:\nThe time and date of this hike are as noted above. We will begin in the parking lot at the end of Moorpark and walk down the street to the Las Padres trail (so do not turn down Greenmeadow to park\, instead park at the end of Moorpark). From there we will loop around and come back to the Moorpark trailhead via the Los Robles trail. There are lots of trees and shade. At the end of the trail\, some hikers may want to add a 1/2 mile by going on the trail to the Greenmeadow parking lot at the end of the hike and taking the trail back to Moorpark\, but you can also return to the Moorpark parking lot before that turn off. This should be around 4.5 to 5 miles with maybe 800 feet elevation gain. \n“Robles” is Spanish for oaks\, and we’ll see plenty of them on this beautiful hike. \nTrailhead Directions: From the 101 in Thousand Oaks\, turn south on Moorpark Road. Go to the end of Moorpark DO NOT turn down Greenmeadow\, just park at the end of Moorpark. . \nPlease review the guidelines to participate in our hikes. Here are some highlights and a link to the guidelines: \nhttps://www.meetup.com/The-Weekday-Trailblazers/about/ \nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list \nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike \nNo dogs \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:SANTA ANA RIVER BIKE PATH & PICNIC
DESCRIPTION:SANTA ANA BIKE TRAIL AND PICNIC LUNCH – Make sure you bring a lunch for our debriefing in the park after the ride. \nThe Santa Ana River Trail is one of Southern California’s most ambitious regional recreation projects\, designed to eventually span 110 miles from the San Bernardino Mountains all the way to the Pacific Ocean at Huntington Beach. While the grand vision connects three counties and 17 cities\, the trail currently functions as two entirely distinct experiences: a collection of flat\, seamless\, fully paved urban greenways through Orange County and the Inland Empire\, and rugged\, high-endurance mountain singletrack routes in the San Bernardino National Forest.\nBecause the trail morphs so dramatically depending on where you drop in\, choosing the right section depends entirely on whether you want a smooth\, vehicle-free bike ride or a grueling alpine workout.\nPopular Urban & Lowland Segments (Easy & Paved)\nThese segments are entirely paved\, flat\, and separate from vehicle traffic using grade-separated underpasses. They are perfect for road cyclists\, long-distance runners\, strollers\, and casual walkers. However\, they offer virtually no shade\, meaning sun protection and morning or late afternoon timing are critical to avoiding intense midday heat and strong afternoon headwinds.\nFor this event\, we will be taking the popular Urban & Lowland southern segment\, and then the northern segment on Saturday November 21st as we once again visit the Mission Inn festival of lights in Riverside. \nCheck your bike out at home to make sure it’s in working order and tires inflated before you arrive at the meetup locationas as well as having your tires or inner tubes filled with slime to help avoid flats. \nMEETUP LOCATION: (<-Click) 9:00 am at Centennial Park in Santa Ana. \nMEETUP DATE AND TIME: Thursday\, November 5th no later than 9:00 a.m. \nROUTE \nMEETUP PARKING FEE: Free parking. \nDISTANCE: 33 miles round trip \nELEVATION GAIN: 600 feet \nDURATION: 5+ hours \nRESTROOMS: There are restrooms at our meetup location and during the ride along the bike path. \nBIKE TRAIL DESCRIPTION: A paved two lane bike path along the Santa Ana River. \nTHE PACE: 8 MPH on up \nLEVEL: Advanced Beginner on up \nDEBRIEFING: After the ride we’ll have a picnic lunch in Centennial Park. \nMY CELL # IS: 805-358-5972

SUMMARY:Towsley Canyon Loop Trail
DESCRIPTION:DESCRIPTION: We will be hIking this trail counterclockwise as a loop\, exploring an incredible variety of sights\, scents\, and landscapes along the way. The trail features unusual geological formations\, bubbling streambeds\, natural tar pits\, and diverse plant communities. \nAround mile 0.9\, we will reach the Narrows\, a slot-like canyon with dramatic\, nearly vertical rock layers. After passing through the Narrows\, we will begin climbing the switchbacks on the Towsley Canyon Loop Trail. At the high point of approximately 2\,450 feet\, the trail transitions into a steep\, winding descent into Wiley Canyon\, where we will enjoy beautiful views of rolling hills and scenic landscapes. \nA quick note about pace: I’m easing back into hiking after recent foot surgery\, so we may be taking things a little slower than usual. Thanks for your patience and understanding! \nLooking forward to seeing everyone again! \nDETAILS: \n\nHike leader volunteer(s): Michele\nMeet: Outer Towsley Park Parking Lot at 7:15 am\, departure at 7:30 am sharp (Nov 7).\nDistance: Approximately 5.5 miles.\nElevation gain: Approximately 1\,417 feet.\nTime: 2.5-3 hours hiking including a snack break.\nConditioning: You need to be in general good physical condition.\nDogs: Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.\nRestrooms – None.\nAdventure Pass – None Required. Pass – None Required.IMPORTANT NOTES: We typically maintain a moderate pace\, but as mentioned above\, we may be moving slower than usual as I return to hiking following foot surgery. Please plan to stay with the group so everyone can enjoy a safe and pleasant outing.\n\nBe aware that trail conditions may include stream crossings\, exposed areas\, insects\, and other potential hazards. As with any hike\, there is always a risk of slipping or falling\, as well as encountering poison oak\, snakes\, and other natural hazards. \nHikes may be cancelled due to inclement weather\, either in advance or at the start of the hike. Please check the weather forecast and plan accordingly. \nESSENTIAL GEAR: Hiking boots or sturdy trail shoes with good grip for the rocks. Trekking poles are helpful on the rolling climbs. Clothing layers—it can be cool at the start. Hat\, sunscreen\, and sun-protective clothing; there’s no shade on this route. Snacks and a refillable water bottle with 2+ liters of water\, plus electrolytes or salt tablets. \nThe Ten Essentials of Hiking (link) \nTHIS HIKE RATING: Level 3\, Intermediate (see chart below).\nPlease only sign up to attend hikes that are consistent with your ability. Based on your hiking during the last 90 days\, how would you score on the Santa Clarita Valley Hikers (SCVHikers) hike rating scale of one to five\, assuming a moderate pace (~2.5 mph)? \nSCVH HIKE RATING SCALE: \n\nBeginner: 1–3 miles\, less than 500 feet elevation gain.\nBeginner/Intermediate: 1–7 miles\, less than 700 feet elevation gain.\nIntermediate: 5–10 miles\, 1000–2000 feet elevation gain.\nIntermediate/Advanced: 7–12 miles\, up to 3000 feet elevation gain.\nAdvanced: 10–17 miles\, 3000 feet or more elevation gain.\n\nTRAILHEAD LOCATION: Towsley Park Parking Lot – We are meeting in outer parking lot\, before you go into the gate.\n24255 The Old Rd\, Newhall\, CA 91381 \nDriving Directions (link) \nNAVIGATION: We highly recommend the AllTrails app be installed on your cell phones and/or you print a copy of the trail map so you can personally navigate the trail if you need to. Cell service may be spotty in the canyon—download your AllTrails maps for offline access before you leave home. The Forest Service has placed black-and-red diamond markers on rocks along the trail\, but they don’t cover the entire route. Navigation can be tricky\, especially past the creek crossings where multiple use trails diverge. \nGPS Trail Map (link) \nIf You Need Help on the Trail \nIn AllTrails\, swipe up on the Navigate drawer and tap “GPS details” to see your coordinates. Screenshot them\, then call 911 and read off the numbers. As a backup\, the What3Words app names any location with three words that are easy to read aloud to a dispatcher. Your GPS works even without cell service—you just need signal to make the call.\nWe rely on donations to continue sponsoring hikes like this. Please contribute via cash or Venmo at each hike. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY — PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY \nWhen you sign up for this event\, you are releasing Santa Clarita Valley Hikers (SCVHikers) and its volunteer organizers from any liability or responsibility in connection with your participation in this activity. Hiking is inherently risky. By signing up\, you are taking full responsibility for your own safety and well-being. \nSCVHikers and its organizers are not trained\, certified\, or compensated guides\, and the club does not confirm the qualifications of any member to lead or participate in its events. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions and judgment. \nBy signing up for any SCVHikers event\, you are releasing SCVHikers and its organizers from all liability for possible injury or death\, as stated in paragraph 6.2 of the Meetup Terms of Service (available at the bottom of the Meetup website). Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience. If you sign up for this hike\, you are confirming that the hike is within your current abilities. \nAt the trailhead\, we will ask every participant to read and sign the SCVHikers Release of Liability and Express Assumption of Risk before the hike begins. If you are unwilling to sign\, you will not be able to join the group that day. Signing up on Meetup does not substitute for the trailhead sign-in. \nThe outing begins and ends at the trailhead. SCVHikers does not organize\, advertise\, or coordinate carpools. Transportation to and from the trailhead is your own responsibility\, and all risks of that travel are yours alone. \nThis event may be cancelled or modified due to weather\, trail conditions\, or other safety considerations.

SUMMARY:bG Gallery presents "Light" - Featuring Our Own Jazan Kozma!
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception of “Light” presented by the California Art League and bG Gallery. \nOpening Reception & Awards Presentation:\nSaturday\, November 7\, 5–8 PM \nArtist Talk & Reception: Sunday\, November 15\, 2–5 PM\nExhibition Dates: November 3–18\, 2026 \nJazan Kozma will have two photos in the exhibition. \nbG Gallery and the California Art League present Light\, a group exhibition exploring light in its physical\, emotional\, poetic\, and metaphorical forms. \nLight cast upon darkness can forcefully or subtly illuminate form. Through shifts in intensity\, contrast\, atmosphere\, and perception\, light can suggest drama or poetry and transform how an image\, object\, or space is experienced. \nBut Light extends beyond illumination. Light can also suggest weight—or its absence. A floating feather placed beside something monumental can transform our understanding of both. A light conversation\, uplifted spirits\, contentment\, peace\, and a sense of “lightness of being” move the exhibition into more abstract and emotional territory. \nAt its most elemental\, light signals presence. In a space of darkness\, even the smallest sliver can fundamentally change what we perceive and what we know is there. \nBringing together works across painting\, photography\, drawing\, digital art\, mixed media\, collage\, and sculpture\, Light presents varied artistic interpretations of this deceptively simple idea—from literal investigations of illumination and shadow to works concerned with hope\, gravity\, atmosphere\, perception\, and transcendence. \nThe exhibition is presented by the California Art League in collaboration with bG Gallery and is juried by Om Navon Bleicher\, Director of bG Gallery. Bleicher’s curatorial practice brings together established and emerging artists across conceptual and expressive approaches\, often creating dialogues between otherwise divergent artistic practices. \n“Light” presented by CAL and bG Gallery will be on view from November 3\, 2026\, to November 18\, 2026.\nbG Gallery \nBergamot Station Arts Center\n2525 Michigan Avenue\, Suite A2\nSanta Monica\, CA 90404\nBGartGalleries.com\ninfo@bgartdealings.com\n[(310) 906-4211](tel:(310) 906-4211)

SUMMARY:Informational Posting-Learn New Skills-Make New Friends-Experience New Adventure
DESCRIPTION:INFORMATIONAL POSTING ONLY-See Website\nwww.wildernesstravelcourse.org\nDear Group Members\, particularly the recent swell of new\, never-been-backpacking-before-but-want-to-start members: There is a great Sierra Club opportunity that is about to begin….an opportunity that only happens one time each year and it is one of the best outdoor learning experiences the Sierra Club has to offer. This is the Angeles Chapter Wilderness Travel Course (WTC). Some of you have taken the course and are now leaders and/or knowledgeable hikers. For those of you who have not\, enrollment in WTC is something you should consider now. The Wilderness Travel Course helps build outdoor skills so hikers can be safe in the backcountry. The course runs for ten weeks and includes four field trips (two one day and two weekend outings). Students learn map and compass navigation skills for competent hiking off-trail\, snow travel\, rock scrambling techniques\, first aid\, nutrition and lots more. The course is followed by unforgettable experience backpacking trips\, most of which take place in the High Sierra\, Sequoia and Yosemite during the summer months.\nWTC moves you from being a day hiker to a more serious adventurer. You will acquire skills in trip planning\, preparation\, equipment and wilderness safety to take you into the backcountry in all seasons\, beyond roads and trails with new friends that share your interest in the outdoors.\nAgain\, the course runs only one time each year and takes place in Southern California in four locations as follows: West Los Angeles (Wednesdays beginning Jan 6th;Orange County (Tuesdays beginning Jan 12th) Long Beach/South Bay (Wednesdays beginning January 20th); San Gabriel Valley (Tuesdays beginning Jan 26th);\nThe four geographic areas fill up well in advance of the class start date so register early.\nFOR MORE INFORMATION AND TO REGISTER FOR THE COURSE GO TO: www.wildernesstravelcourse.org
