We’ll beat the heat on this trek as I take the Wednesday hikers up to the high country where it’s cooler and where the pines are. It’s along the Condor Summit and Tumamait trails where we’ll summit Mount Pinos (8831), Sawmill Mountain (8818) and Grouse Mountain (8650′) before dropping down the North Fork Trail to Camp Three Falls. Sure, the drop in elevation to Camp Three Falls (3600′) is a lot, but the beauty and views we’ll have will make it worth it. We’ll accomplish this via a 40 minute car shuttle.
MEETUP LOCATION AND TIME: Meet at the end of Mt. Pinos Rd. at 7:30 a.m. SEE MAP ABOVE
EARLIER MEETUP TIME, LOCATION AND DIRECTIONS: For those out my way, we can meet in Woodland Hills at 6:00 a.m. and take off from there in a car pool. Meet at the corner of Leonora Dr. and Ponce Avenue. Ponce Ave. is the first street east of Fallbrook. We can park on Ponce which is not in front of any homes. SEE MAP ABOVE. Have a full tank of gas and be willing to drive if needed. Those that don’t drive can help pay for gas. It’s about a 1.5 hour drive to our meetup location at Camp Three Falls.
