IMPORTANT NOTICE (Please read): This hike is being co-led with another group that I am a leader of, which is the Santa Clarita Valley Group, a section of the Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club. As a participant of the hike, we only ask that you sign a waiver at the beginning of the hike (similar to joining CDH) that reads that you do not hold the Sierra Club or its agents liable if anything less than wonderful were to happen to you during the hike. And although the Sierra Club gets criticized for all their “over-the-top” rules, those rules are common sense rules to keep everybody safe and to respect the environment that they are in. I am certain that they are no different than what CDH members are already used to. The only requirement that is different that needs to be mentioned is that there will be two certified-Sierra Club leaders and that the participants stay between myself and the other leader that will be the designated sweep.
Liebre Mountain is along the Pacific Crest Trail in the northern section of the Angeles National Forest adjacent to the western portion of the Antelope Valley. This area is a beautiful high=desert ecozone with outstanding views looking down on the Antelope Valley. Presently the valley below is still remote; however, the Tejon Ranch which owns the land to the north of the valley is planning a massive suburban development that will permanently change the area. But, for now, it is still an incredibly scenic area to hike in. During this time there should be views of orange-colored hills in the distance assuming the poppies are still blooming. We will most likely cross paths of young adventurers hiking the whole PCT.
